High Country Candles is a lovely little store along the Main Street of Blowing Rock, and if it hadn't been for my concern about how I'd pack an armload of candles into my carry-on luggage to fly back home? I would have spent WAY too much money here. The candles smell wonderful, come in a wide variety of scents, and are available in a breadth of sizes - as a matter of fact, their website states "We have 80 different wonderful fragrances we use to scent our handcrafted jar candles, pillars and votives." You can tell that the people here take pride in the craftmanship behind their candles, and they also offer various pottery selections - specifically, a wide variety of mugs, bowls, vases as well as candles trays - in the store. As an avid candle lover, this place was heaven on earth! They offer an unbelievable amount of scents and sizes. There's a scent for every season and taste. I was overwhelmed with the options. I ended up purchasing a large jar candle which was $30 and burns for 145 hours. The size just below this one was $28 and burns for 95 hours. The scent I decided on was a mango sangria of sorts. I forgot the exact title. It's also new so it's not on their website. But the website does have a complied list of all their scents! And they offer shipping! I also bought several of their little small candles that burn for 10 hours. Because I bought 6 of them, I got a free glass container! Ive burned my mango sangria candle and LOVE it! You've really gotta keep the wick trimmed because it burns super bright and big! But it burns evenly and after a few hours it doesn't even look like it's been burned. I can already tell I'll get my monies worth. read more

I really cannot add to all of the other five star reviews for this amazing candle place. The only thing I would wish to add is if you like wax melts this is the only place to get them. Their autumn and Christmas wax melts are to die for. I have bought other wax melts from other vendors, and nothing even comes close to high country candles, wax melts. Their candles also smell amazing. It's not a heavy scent like Yankee candle but more of a subtle scent so you are not completely overwhelmed with some kind of chemical smell. read more

This is an adorable shop with friendly and helpful staff. They hand make candles and pottery and all work is done on site. I wish I would have just spent all my money on the pottery because the candles give off zero scent. I buy candles for their scent (some don't, I assume) and it's pretty disappointing to spend almost $100 in candles to only have a tiny whiff of a scent. The candle 'sculptures' are gorgeous, and the pottery is beautiful and well made. Nothing I say is going to deter anyone from shopping here, and I don't want it to, but I do want future shoppers to know they'll get much more scent from a Yankee Candle. read more

High Country Candles on Main Street in Blowing Rock is the ultimate candle shop that has unique candles that smell really good. I really like all of the different varieties that they have available and they have some candles that I have never seen before. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. Excellent candle shop tucked away in the cutest area. The staff are quite proud of their work as they should be. Their designs are beautiful. They also deliver. Their items make incredible gifts and centerpieces. They are so beautiful I don't want to use them. But I think some of them there's a more regular candle in the middle that burns and the designs keep. I wills definitely buy from them again. read more

My family and I cannot get enough of this store. The owners are absolutely amazing - so pleasant and sweet. Everything is homemade/hand poured and local!! Every time a member of my family comes up to Blowing Rock, a bunch of candles are purchased and dispersed throughout the family! Wish my husband and I could've bought more but we only had so much room in our hands to hold them. We may order more online before Christmas! Highly recommend this store!!!! This place is great and the store owners couldn't be nicer! I was first attracted by the smell of fall candles wafting out the door. When we entered I was surprised to see not only homemade jar and other types of candles but handmade wax sculptures. Sculptures are the best name I could give them, they are actually made of wax, with a coating on the outside so they don't melt. There is a candle in it and when they are lit they glow so prettily. What's great is that they are reusable, once the candle it comes with it is down you can put another votive in. What a great use of wax! There were so many designs and colors it was hard to choose from-you can get them custom made as well. Definitely a must see in Blowing Rock! read more
