I definitely recommend High Desert Appliance Service. Garret and his partner did a terrific job fixing my built-in refrigerator/freezer and microwave. Neither had been working correctly for many months - the icemaker stopped working over a year ago! They properly diagnosed all issues on the first visit, ordered the right parts, and fixed everything on the second visit. In the 5 years I've owned my house, the refrigerator/freezer has never worked better! Much quieter, and colder! Garret and his partner were friendly, professional, and wore facemasks the entire time. I gave 1 star because Greg, the repair man, was actually a reasonable person who gave us good advice regarding our unreliable front load Maytag washer. After he was unable to fix it after 2 visits to our house, he agreed with me that paying an additional $400+ to 'fix' more was not guaranteed to resolve my problems and probably not worth it. Steve, the owner/business manager, is another matter all together and best described as a snakeoil salesman. I had 2 conversations with him, both of which illustrated he doesn't care at all about helping customers but cares deeply about trying to collect your money. Visit 1 - Greg came out and charged me $193 for a service visit, which entailed an attempt to fix our washer and to replace a dryer vent hose that had become disconnected. I thought that was a bit much, but was relieved when he left thinking we could do the laundry. Alas, the washer was NOT fixed! Visit 2 - same day, we called them for a second visit under the belief that there would be no 2nd charge for returning to fix something that was fixed on the first try. Greg couldn't fix it on the second try, recommended we continue to try to flush it out due to potential over-suddsing. Next morning we got a 2nd invoice by email for $105, called and asked why, when we were expecting only an estimate for a deeper repair. A couple of calls later we were re-assured it was a mistake and we would not be charged. Fast forward a few days, the charge appeared and after one more email and phone call trying to resolve it, Steve decides to start arguing with me about it. Next phone call to the CC company to dispute the charge. Sorry for the long review, and I can already see his response ('our policies are on our website...."). You be the judge, should a business tell you one thing then do another? Do you think it should cost $293 to get a dryer vent hose replaced and NOT get your washer fixed. Do you enjoy getting into a shouting match with your service providers? I highly recommend that you find someone else to repair your appliances! read more

We were having some spotting issues with our year old Bosch dishwasher and HDS sent out Garret B. to check things out. You guys have a very reputable and knowledgeable employee!! He was very respectful and removed his shoes in our home, wore a mask the whole visit (so did we). We were greatly impressed and I hope you take great care of this young man!! I should have asked if they had a flat rate for house calls. I'm disappointed they didn't tell us beforehand. They charged us $95 for not even a 20 minute long visit. Dryer wasn't starting so I called for an appointment. Technician came to our home, diagnosed problem quickly, told us our options and that was that. Writing a bad review is just an uncomfortable experience... Yet, in this instance, it needs to be done. We received horrible service from the High Desert Appliance "Technician" who was dispatched to our home to fix a stubborn washing machine. He was specifically told not to arrive earlier than 11:30, yet he did anyway and was rude and dismissive when confronted about it. During the 7 minutes he was in our home, which turned out to be nearly $10 per minute, he was condescending, argumentative and sarcastic. It's a tall order to be that unpleasant in such a short timeframe! The office staff, on the telephone, seemed pleasant and responsive during the scheduling process. When I alerted them to the negative experience I had with their technician, they appeared to be genuinely sorry. Yet, they still cashed the check and I doubt I will hear from them again. Of course, in all fairness, I will update my review should that happen! I have determined, in part from this experience, calling appliance repair people in this day and age is usually an unnecessary step in solving an appliance problem. If the repair is too complex for the average homeowner to fix, the cost is likely going to outweigh the benefit of having it repaired. Most appliances are "use until failure and replace with new" items. read more

After having A@E repair try and repair a simple defect under our factory warranty, we told GE we wanted High Desert to repair the issue. The tech came out and had the defect repaired in 15-20 minutes, when it took the A&E tech 1 1/2 hrs to determine that he did not know how the fix the issue. So far so good and "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" baby!!! I will admit, I get a bit miffed when I can't reach a person and have to leave a message and wait for a call back. I've called High Desert Appliance Service many times (ya, despite taking Consumer Reports advice on ALL purchases... things haven't gone particularly well! LOL) & I've never ever reached a real live person. HOWEVER... I have ALWAYS received a prompt return call or response to email. Call center/appointment center staff have always been super pleasant. Scheduling is difficult in Bend because technicians are in short supply - that's a problem that's not unique to this particular Appliance Service Center though. It's a "Bend thing". And what happens when you live in a tiny bit of civilization surrounded by the middle of nowhere. The first time I used High Desert Appliance Service I was in need of a written estimate. The technician was on time, looked like a professional & was personable. Insurance gave the "OK" and HDAS ordered my part and the technician was back within several days to fix the machine. Again, on time, looked like a professional & was personable. Care was taken not to damage my home while working on the appliance. Easy-peasy! My second time using High Desert Appliance Service will be next week. I've already called and set the appointment, it's the same technician as last time, so I expect this appointment to go as well as the first. I do not recommend this service. After two attempts in a 6 month period to fix a minor appliance issue - it's broken again. The appliance is only three years old, with the exact same problem and High Desert's answer is - "these things are tricky". When asked if they guarantee their work (2 visits at $500 dollars spent so far) they replied "only for 30 days" and that they require the service call charge ($95) in any event. The owner / technician actually argued with me on the phone that it was not the same problem, sight unseen. I will not be investing another $95 for a service call plus parts and labor to fix the same problem they've called on two times previously. Very poor customer service. read more

I had better hopes for this company. They seemed to have decent availability when first scheduled and worked with me around my busy schedule. On the day of their scheduled visit they arrived an hour prior to their scheduled window of time (while I was still at work), and then called and told me that they were unavailable to help due to me being gone. After calling them to discuss why this happened and how to make it right they apologized due fir their error. However, they were unwilling to work with me on scheduling this time around. Needless to say I am less than impressed with the company before they even worked on my faulty washing machine. Don't use them! I wrote a bad review after I used them a year ago and somehow it magically dropped off of yelp (fishy). You can see my receipt in their pics still and I feel strongly enough about this to write a bad review again. They charged me $85 for the service call and $95 labor for a job that was done in 15 minutes, plus $75 for a part I searched online afterwards and found for $25. I know Doctors that don't make that much! I asked them if they would apply the $85 service call fee to the repair and they said no. I didn't schedule the appointment but that's ridiculous! I have no idea if these people are competent to repair appliances or not. I scheduled service for my range with them and agreed to a 3 - 5 PM window. At 4:40 or so I called to see if the tech was going to make it on time and was told that he was on his way. He rolled in at 5:15 but by then I had the oven on as I needed to cook dinner. He said he was told a 3 - 6 window and left. Nobody called to apologize or attempt to reschedule. I'll find someone else to do the service I need. I had to leave work early in order to be home and I do not appreciate having my time wasted. read more

Don't be their next victim! My GF called them to get an estimate on repairing a noisy refrigerator - $85 service call, regardless of if any work is done. $95 labor for a job that was 20 mins, max, if that. $75 for a part I found on line after for $25 (see invoice images, etc). I asked if they would apply the service call fee to the labor costs, and they said no. I asked if there was any way to lower the cost and they said no. $180 labor for "maybe" 20 mins of work - I know doctors that don't make that much. See the invoice pictures and the pic of the part number searched online. Don't let the positive ratings they have sway you. Recently I ordered a part for my refrigerator. They quoted me $69 for a plastic shelf! I questioned the high price and was told I might be able to find a cheaper price elsewhere. I ordered the part and was told it would arrive in about 5 days. I went home and immediately found the same part on Amazon for $14.95!!! I called High Desert Appliance the next day and requested they cancel my order and refund my credit card. I was told there would be a 20% plus $20 restocking fee. When I told them the order wouldn't be there for 5 days, they said it would be arriving the next day and that was the reason for the restocking fee. I commented on their price gouging and I was told again my refund would be minus the restocking fees. I told them that was ridiculous and I was going to dispute the charge with my credit card company. 5 minutes later, they called me back and said I would be getting a full refund. I called High Desert Appliance Service to come out to fix my dishwasher. I called initially and left a message but no one called me back so after a few days I called again. Someone picked up and an appointment was made. The technician arrived on time, was polite,efficient and fixed the washer within about 35 minutes or so. A fuse had to be replaced. Everything was done perfectly well but I was quite shocked that it cost $240. I guess we are not meant to get appliances fixed in this day and age because it becomes quickly more feasible to buy a new one. read more

I wanted to thank you and Garret for the excellent service we received. We were so concerned about our Whirlpool oven when it went out and called several service people with no response whatsoever. That is except for an electrician who came out, took a look, decided it was the mother board and said he couldn't fix it and left. He did charge a $60 service fee, even so. You gave me your first available appointment and when Garret showed up right on time he was a bright light coming into our problem area. He was able to fix the problem without major changes and large prices for expensive parts. As soon as he left, I put in my meat loaf and it cooked beautifully. While he was here, Garret also showed me a couple of things that I could do to make the oven last longer, as well as showing me some things about the oven that I didn't know. Thank you again. While I did not actually receive service from this company, I was blown away at how much they tried to help me. We had purchased a washer from Standard under warranty that they wanted me to wait two weeks to get serviced. When I contacted High Desert for help, Sonia did everything she could to get a purchase order from Standard to service our washer as well as calling me several times to check and see how the progress was coming. She understood that with a one year old and cloth diapers I was really in need of help.
