First off, I have family members in the medical field, and this was the worst experience my mom and I have ever had. Please do not bring your family members here! It totally makes sense why they have bad reviews and totally regret not paying attention to the reviews-cuz I would have never came. Second, the care experience here was sub-par! The medical assistant was rude, unprofessional and disrespectful! The Male Nurse Practitioner was not compassionate, caring and did not create provide a professional experience! Dr. Miguel A. Navarro . Tonight my two year old son required medical attention. We took him to be seen at High Desert Medical Group as we've always had a positive experience there with all of the providers and nursing staff and have always been treated with respect and care. Tonight was a much different experience, we were there about 30 minutes before closing and quickly moved through triage and were placed in a room awaiting our doctor to see us. Dr. Miguel A. Navarro was our provider that night and he very briefly and half heartedly examined my son. He asked only a couple of questions regarding why we were there and immediately informed us we needed to go to the ER. We asked for a second opinion or to speak with a charge nurse and were informed that we would just be discharged. My son burned his hand on his finger tips and his palm mistakenly reaching out and touching something that was hot. The doctor didn't even offer to clean and bandage the burn or offer any type of treatment and just kept telling us we needed to go to the ER despite my two year old son clearly being in distress and pain. To add insult to injury, we were informed that this provider refused care because he felt like the circumstances surrounding our visit were suspicious. These apparent suspicions only were brought up after we asked for a second opinion. A thorough exam was not performed and hardly any questions were asked. This is not the quality of care we've experienced for more than a decade from this facility as a family and are disappointed and sad at how things have changed. Unfortunately at this point in time I would not recommend this urgent care as a reliable source of care in the Antelope Valley. It is extremely offensive and quite frankly,completely unethical for a professional medical doctor that deals with families and children on a regular basis to throw out wild accusations of abuse and or neglect . Poor health care especially if you have an HMO. Contracted specialists are the bottom of the heap and not good at all. Referrals are always denied as they are money hungry. Glad I'm not stuck with this medical care any longer. Left the state to get better medical care by far. read more

URGENT CARE SERVICES TO VETERANS - 1. Make sure you call to confirm your eligibility with the VA first; let them know you are going to High Desert Medical Group for Urgent Care Services. 2. When you arrive to High Desert Medical Group - let the front desk/check in staff know you have called the VA and it is their (High Desert Medical Group) responsibility to call the VA to get an authorization for services. Get the first and last name of the person helping you. In * 2018 * my step-father followed step-1. High Desert didn't do step-2; THEY DID NOT OBTAIN THE AUTHORIZATION and their claim was denied; and sent him to HP SEARS Collections. The bill was $213.80 in 2018 - it's now nearly $300. Today, the VA attempted calling High Desert claims department twice and both times let the transferred call go to voicemail. I called back and reached voicemail again. I called the main phone number asking to file a complaint; I asked to speaking the person that handled the contract - I wanted to discuss that maybe they obtain a provider in-service since patients are held financially responsible for front desk processes that are not being followed. If the provider's office fails to obtain an authorization - then the provider should write-off the denied claim; it's not the patients fault. Excuses High Desert has used: - High Desert was not contracted with the VA - then why did the VA send my step-father there? - There is no auth on file - High Desert didn't follow their protocol to get the auth. - Your step-dad gave us the wrong insurance - he only had the VA, there was no other insurance to give High Desert. - Oh we mailed the claim to the wrong address - why is it the patients responsibility that the provider mailed the claim to the wrong address? High Desert Medical Group - YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES - TREATING A 72 YEAR VIET NAM VETERAN THIS WAY. This urgent care might come up as "In Network " with your insurance HOWEVER it actually probably isn't. The reason - they are an HMO. They only accept patients with either their own group insurance, Medi-cal, and some other HMO's. They do not contract with any PPO or EPO insurance. That is the reason for my 2 stars. When I went there expecting to be seen it was explained to me by one of the intake coordinators that I could not use my blue cross insurance because they were contracted with them. She added that the doctors above the first floor are all primary care physicians and specialty physicians who might be contracted with my insurance (and other PPO & EPO) and THAT was probably the reason the urgent care came up on my insurance's website as in-network. The doctor groups and the urgent care fall under the same name but have different contracts. I hope this review will help others so they don't waste their time parking and going inside only to be turned away. I will say this for those who are able to go to this urgent care - the parts of the outside building and inside that I was able to see were beautiful, clean, and modern. The staff I spoke with where professional. They provide free adult and child sized masks and hand sanitizer at the entrance. The Parking lot is large and has some plenty of shades parking. It feels safe and easy to park with paths that lead to the front entrance. read more

The urgent care doctor here is a joke.. I came in complaining of nausea, diarrhea and full-body aches with some pains in my lower back. Told him I just rescued kittens that have parasites, some of which have giardia (known to cause these symptoms when passed to humans). I just wanted to see if there were meds to help the pain/nausea because the over the counters I had at home were not working. .... The doc didn't listen and told me he thought I had a pinched nerve. Continued to whip my legs up and down the table and was in and out of the room in less than 5 mins. I couldn't even keep water down without heaving... started throwing up in a bag the nurse provided me while waiting for him to come back to the room. When he came back, he just stared at me as if I was bothering him mid-puke. Very hostile environment and all I did was just exist. Welp, at least I found out I don't have a pinched nerve read more

My wife just got off the phone with a staff member named "Abbey G." at HDMG. She refused to confirm an non-emergency appointment for her bedridden Mom who can barely speak. My wife needs to confirm that medical transportation has been approved for her moms appointment. In spite of my wifes tearful pleading, Abbey G at HDMG refused to help. I don't understand why this staff person has to be so cold-hearted and apathetic to the needs of their patients and family members. Something has to change at there. read more

All the younger physicians have left. Now you get your choice of seeing a newby Physician assistant (dumb and nice) or an 80 year old Doc on his way out (senile and physically challenged) Don't expect the quality of your experience to be exceptional. I came to high desert to treat my middle child - 1yd due to symptoms for 10 days and a fever for 2 days. They have always been so amazing from beginning to end with myself, my husband, and older kids. Even when the AV hospital and pediatricians office neglected to offer professional help. Shahi, Varun. You saw and only took one look at my son and diagnosed him with an upper respiratory infection and dual ear infection. I cried and begged you to please give him antibiotics and/or check his ears - you told me you would do greater harm to him as a "Medical Professional". I took my baby home and stayed up all night trying to keep his fever down - while attending to my 5 week old newborn. I called his pediatrician the very next morning and they got him in within 10min and had him on antibiotics within 30min. With all do respect, they were all women and children of their own. My 1yd had an appetite by dinner time but was still dehydrated yet on pedialyte per his "medical professional's" opinion. Please, do not treat babies, children, or kids. You nearly costed a baby's life. read more

The lady in the laboratory is rude to patients as well as her co-workers. When she called me up to get information she went on about the lab doesn't open til 8a and they only let ppl in due to the cold. She handed me a cup to pee in, asked me to check info on cup, and then turned away. I had never been here before, I assume she thought I knew where to go or what to do. Extremely rude to coworkers who were she told could not start taking patients til 7:30a. Maybe she was having a bad day, and I get that; however, maybe, just maybe those patients are having a bad day with their health....it does not hurt to BE KIND! read more

They outright lie to people, will lie in your chart saying they called & spoke to you & almost never get messages to the doctor correct. Just spent 3 hours there to get nothing done & got the run around from 3 different offices in the building. Urgent care, my pcp office & member services. Their own medical director doesn't even get enough respect to get a response from pcp. Just sad how low this medical center has gone. If I could give negative 10 stars I would... this urgent "care" makes a complete mockery of the medical system/ education. I have not the slightest clue how on an x- ray a broken foot can be missed on an almost 80 year old man. After taking my grandfather last week (mind you he was there almost all day, but to be expected) they decide he has a sprained foot- but provide no wrap, no brace, no support of any kind and give him the ok to keep walking on it. After one week of no improvement and him being in bed for almost that entire week the pain isn't any better to the point where he can't sleep and swelling has not gone down. Second trip they finally come to the conclusion it was broken the whole time. I'm not a doctor but I'm assuming on an x- ray you can see the bone is either broken or it isn't- or maybe the process was just done wrong? I have no idea but what I do know is that due to the "medical professionals" incompetence my grandfather has been suffering way too long with something that could've already started to improve. Might as well have gone to the ER the first time. Either way I love the care and respect our elderly veterans get treated with (heavy with the sarcasm). Do not bring your loved ones here. read more

I don't even know where to start. High desert needs to do better. I don't know if they're understaffed or they just get doctors that don't care. If this is an urgent care then it needs to act as such. The last time I came in I had my hand and wrist slit wide open because I fell ;I got no x-rays just a bandage which might I add obviously I blood right through so I went to go see another another doctor that gave me x-rays mri and actual surgery that I required. read more

I have been to urgent care here twice now with my two-year old son. Both times they have been so sweet and so helpful with him. The first time he ended up having pneumonia and they were so fast in getting him in and starting breathing treatments immediately. The second time, there was a similar issue and again they were quick and thoughtful in the treatment. The PA (Tammara) even called later that evening to check on him. read more

I can't begin to tell you about this place, when I first showed up everything looked good, not that many people waiting and I understand due to short staff and Flu/COVID season I was ok to wait, But once every one in the room went in and the people after me also went in??? two hours later I was still seating in the waiting room.... At that point I was not happy plus I was in pain, once I was called into the room I waited for about 20 minutes Dr. Walks in sees my finger ( I smashed my finger in accident that was the reason of my visit) he asked me if I wanted an X Ray??? Really aren't you the Dr!!! Then he said I don't think you need it, just clean your finger with alcohol and keep it stable... gave me a couple of alcohol swabs told me to take Motrin and send me home. This happened more then 1 week ago. Today I had an X Ray done (somewhere else) and my finger shows a fracture and I needed antibiotics. No need for me to say .. but I'll say it...I would not be going back to this place. read more

65 years old female. I've had a cold and cough for 5 days. Told the woman doctor history of pneumonia and bronchitis. Flu test was positive. No blood test no chest X-ray. Sent me home. Back two days later. Another woman doctor doctor. By the way I'm a woman. Wasn't very professional. Trying to be my friend. Not impressed. I told her I needed chest X-ray. She did. Pneumonia. So she subscribes me a zee pack 5 pills!!!!!! I have pneumonia I'm 65!!!!! Next day went to my regular MD. He said the script was not something she should have given me. He gave me a 20 pill supply of kick butt antibiotics. I'm already feeling better. This woman doctor who shall remain nameless should stop trying to be so friendly and work on senior care more seriously. Blood work. I have taken my children to this facility on 3 occasions and have always had the BEST CARE, TREATMENT PROVIDED by the most professional, polite and kind physicians ..... all of whom are from the Philippines. We were unfortunate to be seen by Donald Sicher Jr.,PA he was ignorant , antagonistic cave men, who ISN'T EVEN A PHYSICIAN. By the time he had finished his nasty tirade espousing his values and how he deals with people, futher announced that he voted for Trump (which had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VISIT). Crazy. He did not want us there and told us as much, even went as far as saying we shoukd go to ER at AV hospital, coded language to convey the sentiment that "YOU DO NOT BELONG". It was clear that his conduct was informed by nationalist or protectionist, xenophobic ideology. I feared for my children's safety and mine. Therefore, I decided to take my children out of the hostile environment and seek care elsewhere.The PA may believe others do not belong but neither does he belong in the position of patient care. I intend to file complaint with patient coalition organizations and US Dept of Health and Human Services, ahrq.gov, hhs.gov, ncbi.nlm.nih.gov and HIPA Upon entering the exam room he angrily asked how he could help us and I replied telling him that we were waiting to be seen by the doctor. To which he replied even more annoyed asking "YEAH I AM THE PA HOW CAN I HELP YOU"? I was confused and thought he was in the wrong room because usually, the doctors walk into the room and announce their name and occupation. The poor bedside manner. And hostile tone was so offensive that I made mention of it and tried to defuse his escalating hostility. HDMG CHARGED MY INSURANCE EVEN THOUGH NO MEDICAL SERVICES WERE PROVIDED. Fraud! read more

I was asked to make an apt for a "senior annual exam" A questionaire was mailed to my home with questions that were so appalling, I thought whomever wrote this form out must be kind of thrive on other peoples misfortunes; the word that comes to mind is sadistic. It left me feeling depressed and the questions; some were inappropriate. I urge anyone reading this to look up senior wellness exam at HDMG, and after reading the questionaire ask yourself how you would feel if you were 66, and someone mailed this to your home. In addition today I got a text msg from HDMG inviting me to class to prevent falls at home!!!? I have no problem walking! I don't need a cane yet! It is kind of sick behavior! read more

Very frustrating when ur finally diagnosed with beginning pneumonia. Now I'm here again for a 12 noon appt its 12:35 n I had to ask if the drs here to give me another antibiotic shot. read more

HDMG continues to live up to their poor reputation. My husband was in excruciating pain. The intake person was able to pull up a previous visit. I updated our address, gave him my husband's medical card. I waited while he called the provider to verify. After about 10 minutes on the phone and entering who knows what, he asked for my husband's social security number. I told him we never provide our social security numbers, and in fact are advised not to. He insisted he couldn't proceed without it. I insisted we would not give it. He said he couldn't proceed without it. We left. So, there you have it. Refused service because we wouldn't provide a social security number. I'll endure the hospital emergency room in the middle of the night rather than use this facility again. I will also be calling our provider to tell them how we were refused service. One star is even too much for this operation. read more

Let me start by stating that I am an LVN with 14 years experience in opiate addiction services. I've seen and heard it all when it comes to addiction behaviors. Today is May 16th, 2021. I was seen around 1 or 2 pm. This is at least the 5th time in the last 2 years that I've been seen here for one reason or another. Most of these visits have been for pain in either my lower back or flank area. Today I went in for a severe hamstring pull/tear. I day severe because even after a shot of toradol and a while gram of acetaminophen (big deal huh?), I'm still in severe pain. The attending Dr/PA said I didn't an xray or scan of any kind. He said he could see that I'm in pain. On none of these occasions have I ever been given or offered an opiate of any kind for pain relief. Even when the situation warranted a stronger pain relief medication, I have always been prescribed nothing more than meds that I could get over the counter. Tylenol is a joke and is obviously bad for the liver in large doses and ibuprofen hurts my stomach and is hard on the kidneys (I've had lots of kidney issues). But it seems like these medical "professionals" take one look at me and decide I don't need anything stronger for my pain then otc medications. Maybe it's the fact that I have lots of tattoos and a shaved head. Maybe it's because I state to the attending Dr/PA that I need a stronger medication. But whatever the case, my pain relief seems trivial to these people in comparison to the judgment I feel when I say that I'm in pain. I called urgent care about 2 hours after my visit today, expressed my feelings on the meds I was prescribed and asked to be given something appropriate for my pain level. In short I was told that the provider felt that I didn't need anything stronger for MY pain based on what HE saw! At this point I'm not only upset but also in a great deal of pain. I was told I can go back to Urgent Care and get reevaluated by another physician or go wait 8 hours in an ER. I'm going to treat my injury myself with ice/heat pad and wait to speak with my primary tomorrow. I feel like I've been judged by my looks and treated with a lack of empathy and compassion for my pain. When I ask to see my medical records (and I will be requesting a copy), there better not be any mention of "drug seeking behavior" or HDMG will find themselves in a defamation suit read more

The most uncaring, unprofessional staff. I've been waiting 6 weeks for a referral to orthopedic surgeon. At the 3 week mark I was told someone forgot to request it. It would be done then and expedited. Waited another 2 weeks and still no luck. Contacted member services online and was told it was just now under review and I would receive a phone call the following day. Never received. I'm still waiting. My advice? Use a different medical group. I'll be changing insurance so I can go elsewhere. read more
