Best chai latte I've ever had, I think about it to this day and compare all chais that pass my lips to theirs. My only slight negative (and it really is slight) is that the wait is typically a bit long for a coffee. If you have the time (about 20 mins average in my experience) or are sitting it's the place to go! If you're in a time crunch, I would maybe consider tying it another time. read more

My favorite coffee and matcha spot. I usually either order just regular coffee or their cubano from their specialty menu. I don't think they list matcha lattes on their menu but it's so delicious! It's not overly sweet and has the matcha kick I'm always looking for. Their loose leaf teas are meh; I tried their jasmine one time but it had a weird taste from probably being out too long. The shop is comfortable and intimate. The staff is so friendly. I'm the customer who likes to try something new, while my hubby sticks to his favorites. For us, the vanilla latte is always a win. I love having my favorite coffee shop in town (High Five, duh) as a downtown option as well. I work in two different places in the downtown area and this is so easy to stop in and grab a drink. (If you are just running in for a coffee to go, I suggest parking in the deck right next to it. The first hour is free). Service is always great behind the bar. (High five to Sean, Salem and Emily amongst all the rest). My favorite drinks include but are not limited to a plain latte (really no one does it better), the Mayan Mocha, anything iced including the house cold brew and whatever the barista special is of the week. Those are always bangin. Don't forget about special treats like a smoothie, toast from OWL Bakery, bagels from The Rhu, or a full selection of cookies and other desserts. Why 4 stars? Because my Cubano was unique, but quite salty. --- --- --- I was desperately in the need of some caffeine after spending my morning commuting to Asheville. Luckily, I was right around the corner from High Five Coffee Bar, so my decision on where I'd receive said caffeine was an easy one. I elected to go with the Cubano, after the barista told me on this funky drink. She mentioned it had salt, which intrigued me. Unfortunately, my sense of adventure won out over my sense of logic - salt in your coffee is just weird. It's hard to describe, but every sip made me feel bloated. I've been to the other High Five location, so I can vouch for their joe overall. A downtown location probably made a lot of people happy, as well. Oh man! How lucky are we? High Five now has a downtown location. This spot has all of the same great beverages and loyal staff to attend to your caffeination needs, 90% of the charm of their original spot, and a 110% awesome location, so this is definitely a Five Star coffee destination. The beautiful brick and hardwood interior is comforting enough to meet for a friendly conversation with an acquaintance, but industrial enough to inspire work. There's tons of seating at quite a few communal tables, as well as some private two tops. There's a new system of passing orders to the barista using these cute clips on a wire. Zoom! I can hardly tell you how awesome the location is, right smack dab in the middle of downtoan on Rankin. What they lack in the way of charming outdoor seating they make up for in proximity to EVERYTHING. Counter culture coffee, knowledgable staff, and free Wi-Fi makes this spot a welcome addition to the downtown coffee scene! One note: Power outlets are not as plentiful at High Five's new downtown location so either plan to sit by one of the few, bring that macbook extension cord you ordered but rarely use, or just charge your battery up! read more

The drink filled me up and I ended up taking it to go. They provide corn based straws. This added a great environmental bonus to my drink. Always appreciate a place looking out for the environment. I'm not sure if they roast their own coffee, and I forgot to check, which is my bad. I was especially impressed that they 1) knew that cafe Cubano is a thing, and 2) could make one. It didn't taste like the coffee I had in the Keys (I guess nothing ever will), but it was tasty. Strange that they put salt, or possibly salted butter, in with it. Maybe that was to enhance the sweetness? My wife enjoyed her oat milk latte, I think she's now pretty much over the shock of having to transition from soy milk. First world problems lol read more

I don't have the knowledge or experience to go into fancy flavor note detail, but I will say that it had an intense and fruity flavor with no bitterness. I paid a visit to the storefront for the first time today and was very impressed. As others have said, it has a hipster vibe to it, but not in an obnoxious or pretentious way. I ordered a cappuccino, which was one of the best I've ever had (you might not like it if you prefer tons of foam) and tasted the chocolate croissant (my personal favorite, full of gooey chocolate filling and flaky layers), plain croissant, bagel and cream cheese, and granola with yogurt and fresh berries, all of which were outstanding.
