There are not many coffee shops open at 7 AM in Asheville on a Sunday. We were hitting the road earlier so this was one of the top rated in the area so we came here. They use counterculture coffee beans, which are from Durham, North Carolina. I've used these coffee beans in my own coffee before and it's always pretty good. I got a cold brew and I didn't need to add anything to it. It was perfect. My husband got a dirty chai latte and the chai is really good. They also sell their own chai spice mix. For solid coffee this is the place to go. They also have very cute sweatshirts and I did indulge.

Baristas are sweet, service is good and prompt with lots of seating inside and low volume. Bagel and matcha far surpassed the standard where I'm from. I really thought they were exceptional.

Super friendly staff. One of the few places that is open early. The cappuccino was yummy and so was the croissant.

Half the drinks in the dish tray were still full. Should've taken that as a warning-- "The Storm" tasted like it was 1/3 black pepper. Undrinkable. Customer service was nice, but I didn't bother to switch my drink out. It deserved to be dumped out #nooffense #lovenothate

I don't live in NC but have been thinking of the brown butter caramel latte ever since I had it. One of the best lattes I've ever had. This place is a must if you're in the area!

High-five, Cortado! This cortado was the kind of coffee that makes you stop mid-sip, stare into the distance, and say "Whoa." Smooth, strong, and exactly what our sleepy souls needed. Cool vibe, awesome baristas, and easily the best cortado of our Asheville trip. Highly recommend for anyone who takes their morning brew seriously.

Stopped here to kill some time. I ordered the matcha latte with regular milk. They used too much matcha powder so the drink was super grainy and bitter. Would not recommend ordering. The service was nice and quick. The shop is cute and clean. Just would probably order something different next time.

    Lox bagel, iced mocha latte

What a fun coffee breakfast spot downtown! The lox bagel was absolutely delightful (the cream cheese spread was mixed with onions and capers!), iced mocha latte was enjoyable, and environment was welcoming and friendly. It would be a great spot to work remote or dine alone. Free parking across the street for the first hour!

Nothing but great things to say about High Five! Great coffee and even better customer service! The place is very relaxing and quaint even with a screaming baby currently behind me as I sit down to drink my oatmeal Cortado to write this review. Nothing, not even a screaming baby, could shake the relaxing and chill atmosphere in here. I will say they are busy which is a good thing. It doesn't take long to order but there are only 2 baristas working hard behind the counter trying to complete coffee and food orders and for it just being the two of them they are doing great but just know it takes just a tad bit longer to get your order. With that said, the wait is worth it.

Cute coffee shop. Good coffee. Friendly staff. You should definitely stop by when in town.

20 min drink wait, no food left, eh. Coffee is good, but 7 bucks for a basic 12 oz latte isn't.

We each ordered individually, but tasted everyone's dish. Beef Tartare: beautifully presented and well balanced. Served with fried saltines (seasoned with Old Bay seasoning). Wood Grilled Asparagus: perfection! Absolutely LOVED the sauce gribiche! Braised Rabbit and Nettle Cavatelli: I thought this dish was stunning. The texture of the cavatelli could not be better and the flavors melded well together. Lardon added savoriness while the pickled ramps balanced the palate. Soft Herb & Pea Risotto: loved this in terms of texture but needed a touch of salt. We added a pinch of their house special salt (mined from a 100 year old salt mine), and it did the trick! Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle: this was my favorite item, though also, requiring a pinch of salt. I really appreciated that the truffle oil did not overpower the dish (that's a pet peeve of mine). We were provided with some truffle salt to enhance savoriness, which absolutely lifted the pasta to another level. Service all around was attentive and friendly. It feels intentionally put together without being fussy, the kind of place where you can savor a slow morning or catch up with friends and still hear each other talk. Coffee and vanilla lattes The vanilla lattes were beautifully balanced: smooth espresso, creamy milk, and a vanilla note that tasted more like a crafted flavor than a syrupy afterthought. They were the kind of drink you notice sip by sip--no bitterness, no burn, just a clean, rounded cup that shows how serious Rowan is about its coffee program. Pastries: apple brie galette The apple brie galette was a standout, layering gentle sweetness from the apples with the subtle richness of brie in a flaky, buttery crust that felt more like a bakery feature than a "typical" coffee shop pastry. It paired perfectly with the latte, giving that sweet-savory bite that makes you slow down and actually enjoy breakfast instead of just grabbing something on the go. Pastries: apricot pistachio galette The apricot pistachio galette was equally memorable, with bright, tangy apricot lifted by the nutty crunch of pistachios, again in a delicate, well-baked crust. Together, the flavors were sophisticated without being pretentious--approachable, interesting, and exactly what you hope to find in a city known for its food and drink. Service and overall impression Service matched the quality of the menu: friendly, patient baristas who clearly know their craft and are happy to guide you without any trace of attitude. Rowan Coffee is the rare place where the coffee, food, and atmosphere all show the same level of care, and after vanilla lattes plus an apple brie and apricot pistachio galette, it becomes an easy "don't miss this" recommendation for Asheville.

While the cashier at the counter cut me off after I ordered two items, telling me I was "going too fast"... I thought she was about to ruin my morning. Turns out she was an angel, guiding me to the light.
