I made my first appointment with Marla, after she was recommended by a friend. I am thrilled I found her! I loved that each stylist uses her own cell number, so there is no misunderstandings over the schedule. After making the appointment, I had to call back because of a scheduling conflict. Marla graciously accommodated the schedule change. When I walked into her salon, there was an immediate sense of welcome. I felt she really listened to what I wanted, and she gave me a great cut. 6 weeks later, I went back for another visit. I decided to do a little more to my hair, and again, she listened and gave me exactly what I wanted! I will come back again and again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her. She is the owner of the salon, but it seems that the rest of her stylists have the same attention to detail. I called this salon (Marla's cell # is all that is listed for this business on Yelp) yesterday to request an appointment. I left a message in the early morning requesting a call back to make a haircut appt. I never received a call back. It is the day after now, & still no call. The reviews for this business are wonderful on Yelp. I am perplexed as to why they are so good if the business owner doesn't return her calls. I am a business owner myself, & my reputation among my clients is stellar due to my attention to detail & excellent communication skills. This woman is in the service business. It's a shame she doesn't value her reputation or her business enough to simply return a phone call. read more

I went here for a bleach and tone while I was on a long work trip and desperate for a touch up. My stylist was very friendly but ultimately it was not a good experience at all. I'm not sure how new she was to doing hair but she couldn't lift my roots (I think she was using the wrong volume to develop the bleach) and I ended up with a very brassy yellow band. Then she toned my hair to an awful gray/purple color when I had asked for something closer to platinum/white which my hair has been easily toned to before at other salons. She was very nice and when I said it wasn't right, she washed the toner out and tried to bleach again but still couldn't get it to lift for some reason. She asked another stylist for help but this other woman was very bossy and insisted on using a high-lift bleach to fix the brass - I ended up with multiple burns on my scalp and after 4.5 hours, I walked out with mousy gray hair. I could tell she felt very bad but I still was charged full price and Months later I am still working to undo the brassy yellow bands that were left in my hair. read more

Here is my story with going to High Maintenance Salon.....2 weeks ago I needed my hair done and everyone was booked because it was before back-to-school-week and the end of summer. I had heard of this place through a co-worker and decided to contact the lady from this place. I called a several times to try and schedule an appointment, but no answer. The lady who runs the salon has her personal cell phone as the number for the salon and so she never answers it when you try to text or call her. Even though this seemed odd to me that a salon wouldn't answer their phone several days in a row, I went to Rapid City and walked in the salon to make an appointment. When I met the lady, she seemed nice enough, and scheduled an appointment for me at 1:00 the following Saturday. I showed up at 1:00 and the had to wait OVER AN HOUR for the lady to even talk to me about my hair, because she was doing two other ladys' hair. Then, when she finally was at a stopping point with the other ladys' hair, she came over and talked to me. I said I wanted alternating dark brown highlights and light blonde highlights, a very simple request I thought. She refused to do them, saying my hair wouldn't work with that and she didn't want to. She sat there and argued with me about it for 15 minutes until she came to a solution that sounded like what I wanted. She said she would dye my hair dark brown and put blonde highlights in it. So basically what I had asked for, but not exactly the same. I agreed and then asked how much this would cost, and her exact words were "Not even $200"....she had worked out with my mother, who came in to help me because this lady wouldn't listen to me and made me confused, to have me pay $120 for it, which is already way more than it should cost normally, but an agreement nonetheless. We got to then end, my hair not looking any different than before because she only dyed the bottom of my hair brown and then put a few blonde highlights in my already blonde and brown hair.... She asked for $200 when my mom walked outside and because I didn't know she had told my mom $120, I paid her $220, the extra $20 being a tip. I would also like to mention that I had to blow-dry and comb my own hair, because she was busy with other clients. Normally wouldn't be a big deal to me, but considering I had to do her work for her and it cost me $200 for color that only cost her $40 if that, I was ripped off... After we left, my mom called this lady back and asked her why she said shed charge $120 when she asked for $200...the lady had no real answer but agreed to send $70 back to me so I'd end up paying $150 for my hair that I didn't even like that much, nor did it look different from my hair beforehand. It's been over 2 weeks now and I've not received the money, and she won't answer texts from me either. This woman took advantage of me and ripped me off majorly, not to mention that she ripped off the other two ladies at the salon that day, who both gasped when she showed them how much their hair cost, but paid anyway. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. There are plenty of other salons in this area that have professional hairdressers who will do what you'd like and not overcharge you for it, or make you do your own hair for that matter. I suggest Regis or really any hair salon other than this. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

10 Gold Star Rating !!! I drove 110 miles & booked my hair appointment with Makayla Wilkins,(Thanks to Koti for getting this appointment for me) I would take anything this salon would give me. Long story short I sat in another salon where they messed my hair up pretty bad. Makayla Wilkins not only fixed my hair & gave me back my confidence but she made me feel positive that we can get to my hair goal that I originally started with. The gals in this salon & the owner really do give you a welcoming feeling, I was offered something to drink while my hair was under heat and one thing I can guarantee is they did absolutely everything to make sure I was leaving the salon happy Makayla made sure I had a card with her number on it just incase I decided I wanted to add toner to my highlights before my next appointment. My husband complimented me as soon as I walked out the salon. I would recommend this place and have to a few of my co workers :) read more
