Shelton has so many nice places to stop and see. At lunchtime or high noon the place to be is, High Steel Beer. Stacie greeted us and we were able to sample the beers made at the establishment. Plus they do have two ciders and Root Beer offered. Our choices were the A Punkin-Funk which is a Smokey slight pumpkin Porter at 5.7% Oakland Bay IPA 6 % and K-Dog Highclimber Lager which is a 4.9% Vienna Lager. The decor was perfect with a picture of a High Steel Bridge and sitting also bar area was great. The tables of area trees give homage to the height that they grown and their journey. Love the live edge. Our food choices the Oyster Basket, Fish and Chips and a Veggie Burger with Blue Cheese crumbles were all gourmet delights. We were in Shelton for business and were looking for a place to get lunch. We wanted a place that was kid friendly and found High Steele Beer. We walked in and was immediately greeted by the girl behind the bar. She told us how it worked there and that we could sit whenever. To the left was some seating and beyond that was the arcade and where they make the beer. To the right is a larger dining room area with tables and booths. There also appears to be an upstairs as well. We ordered our beers at the counter, but ordered our food via their QR code. Husband got a porter and I got the amber ale. I'm not a beer connoisseur or anything, but the amber ale was good. To eat we got the Irish Nachos and the Boneless Cauliflower. The boneless cauliflower was supposed to be like boneless wings, but I was thankful they were drenched in a sauce. I felt like it was just enough. We went to High Steel Beer Company in Shelton last night for dinner for Ingrid's birthday. The food was fantastic and the service was really good. They brought out a small chalkboard sign wishing her happy birthday. They also gave her a generous slice of really delicious cake. I tried their Climber Burger which has pepper jelly and peanut butter on it (and bacon!). The thought of peanut butter and jelly on a hamburger seemed odd, but a friend told me that it was really good so I thought I would give it a try. It was delicious! The pepper jelly gives it a little bit of spiciness and the peanut butter blends in with the other flavors better than you might think. They donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of that burger to a local culinary program, which is very cool. I had some dipping tots, which were nice and crispy and apple cole slaw. It's a fun place with a small arcade for the kids and a virtual golf room for the bigger kids. Give them a try if you're in the area! They have a great variety of in-house brewed beers, ciders and wine. There's also an 18 hole Golf Simulator. Had a terrific late lunch today, I had the egg roll in a bowl salad with a spicy peanut sauce. (I added on crispy fried onions ) it was super fresh and delicious I appreciate they have several vegetarian options. Hubby had the buffalo wings, he gets them all the time and is kinda picky, he loved them and the blue cheese crumbles. Super nice people, fun atmosphere with pin ball and games, a small bar (we always prefer to sit at a bar when it's just the two of us) and overall great vibes. I've been coming here since it was still Smoking Mo's and I can tell you, it's great! The food is made with care and intention, the servers and bartenders are top notch and the owners are really great, community-oriented folks. I love all of the salads and I can't wait to try everything else on the menu. One really cool thing is that they have a reservable upstairs space that is ideal for a meeting, birthday get together, family dinner, you name it. It's really a great space. Haven't done the game room or golf simulator but plan to in the future. This place is definitely worth checking out. I really enjoy this restaurant and the beer they make at their brewery. We prefer a darker beer and we aren't ever disappointed with the selections at High Steel. This week I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cucumber salad. Both were exceptional! Our waitress was personable and fun to talk with. We were a larger group (10) and she was fast and energetic. its a place you sit where you want and they come to you. well they didn't come to us after the said we could sit up stairs. so we found a dirty table and sat down stairs. went to the register to order food. The bf got his beer from the counter. After a half an hour sitting at a dirty table we get our food. which is meh. This place might be good when it's got two or three customers. but when every spot is full they are terrible. I wish them the best but we will not be returning. read more

Pulled pork sandwich exceeded expectations. It had a great smokey taste and great bbq sauce. Fried pickles with ranch...delish! Catfish tacos were delicious. We share a pale ale "Dogs and Frisbees." Highly recommend this restaurant. Staff were awesome! We will be back when in the area. read more

OK, I hate writing negative reviews - especially because High Steel is a small brewery in a small town and without question the owners work hard to make this go. HOWEVER, I am compelled to make people aware who are making not only purchasing decisions but simply making the effort to stop their travel, pulling off the busy highway as they are traveling to other points...and to counter-balance the 5 star reviews so people can make decisions. I stopped in yesterday 09/01/24 while traveling to Gig Harbor - the only reason is because of the high Google rating - so my expectations were fairly high. First the positive - the staff was great - and the set-up was great as well - I liked the digs - super roomy and also comfortable. Therefore, I gave the extra star. Also, the fish and chips was quite good - and I would likely expect the other food as well - based on my limited tasting (this was for my wife...). I ordered a flight, including both IPAs, the Cherry "Sour" and the BBA Imp Stout. Actually, the Cherry "sour" while not especially sour but it was refreshing (as the bartender said...). The BBA Stout was interesting - definitely a BBA imperial albeit with a certain taste characteristic that is not my favorite in this category (not sure if it is due to the yeast). I use Breakside, Fort George, Urban Family , Ex Novo and Goose Island products as my reference points. Oddly enough I had written a 3 star review about a taste of this I had a year or so ago at Hops and Hounds. What was super disappointing were the IPAs - very malty, very unbalanced. I did not finish them. So if you are there for the IPAs - temper your expectations. To put in focus - I use Georgetown's Bodi and Fort George's Vortex - as well to Russian River Pliny the Elder as my points of reference. And I was just at Stoup in Bothell where the 5 of of the massive portfolio were all good/very good - and, gasp, maybe one or two were excellent. OK, there you have it. Maybe these IPAs will suit you - but if you are looking for a clean, crisp, hoppy IPA with depth...well, sorry.... read more

We aren't in Shelton often but were there for a birthday party and wanted to try a new spot. We arrived and the ambiance was nice! It had a fun vibe with glass bricks and nice wood picnic tables. They also had a little arcade which is fun. We unfortunately didn't have cash on us to get change otherwise we would have played some games. We saw we were to order via a QR code and did so. Our drinks came out quickly. After that it wasn't a different story. 30 minutes later our Texas Philly, bbq nachos and kids meal came out. We had no ketchup for the fries or burger, nor did we have any silverware. The food had very obviously been sitting out for at least 15 minutes. The food was cold, cheese was coagulated. Our appetizer was also missing. At this point we were just happy to have food. It was ok, probably would have been great if it was fresh! A gal did come to our table and apologize about the appetizer and offer a free drink. She had accidentally given it to another order. We had no need for anything free and appreciated her efforts there. The appetizer was fresh and good. I think my biggest qualm is with the ordering/service style. I had to tip when I ordered. I tipped well and in the end the service and food were not up to par. Unfortunately, we will not be back. If they offered actual table service I would try again! read more

After a devastating fire to the previous restaurant, High Steel Brewery has reopened. The family and I stopped in for our first visit to the place last night. One word....OUTSTANDING!! The redone restaurant and brewery is fantastic, so clean and really cool. Huge area to spread out with friends and enjoy a pint and/or food. A big upstairs area for larger parties. Kids are welcome and encouraged. Great family friendly atmosphere complete with a full arcade. The food was amazing as was the beer. The Arcadia Amber is so delicious. The service is very friendly and helpful. Its great to have a place like this near home. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a great dining and leisure experience. The reviews this place has boggles the mind. The food my family had tonight left us wanting something salty for desert. We ordered the bacon blue burger, nachos and the BBQ platter. Everything was overly sweet. The nachos were overwhelmingly sweet, there was almost no cheese to speak of, just a ton of sweet BBQ sauce. We tried to turn to the burger for a relief only to find more sweet sauces on the burger. The BBQ plater already covered in the super sugary BBQ sauce was a surprise, most places have a verity of BBQ sauces and let you choose. Not here, probably 40 grams of sugar on that plate alone. I turned to the fires for a salty balance but there was no salt to speak of on the fries. I had to go up to the bar to get some salt since our waitress despite there only being a handful of full people in there seldom checked up on us. The beer was pretty good but the food will keep us from returning. I don't know how this place achieved this high review rating but it is very misleading. read more
