We found Shannon Moving through a realtor who was handling the sale of our home. Fiachra from Shannon came out promptly to give us an estimate. He was calm, attentive and polite. He understands that people who are moving are stressed and anxious and need reassurance. I was concerned that the crew that moved us would be inflexible and would set about doing the work in their own way while my wife and I were set off to the side. And they were very efficient but they also checked in with my wife and myself about how certain things like sculpture and artwork or fancy ceramics should be packed. The three guys who moved our stuff were Julio, Cesar and Arturo. They did a great job of communicating with us, of responding to our questions, of taking care of all the issues that we hadn't anticipated. Altogether they did a really fabulous piece of work. After receiving quotes from multiple moving companies I ended up going with Shannon moving for my move from SF to east bay. They were very prompt in their communications and did a wonderful job packing up our old place and helping us move in. I asked to provide a FaceTime tour so that I would get an accurate estimate and it worked well. The movers were very careful with our items and efficient. Very surprised at all the great reviews. I had a very negative experience with this company which cost me thousands of dollars and a day of my life. After arriving, the team were very slow to pack our house. Their time estimate (*after* doing a walk through) was off by 4 hours. Worst of all, they brought too small a truck and didn't let us know until work was almost done, so we had to have a second moving day - which they made us pay thousands of dollars for, almost doubling the cost of our move. We described all our furniture over the phone. We did a walk through with the foreman the morning of. He and the team either didn't realize or didn't see it fit to let us know the truck won't be big enough. If they had let us know first thing in the morning that there's a problem, we would have had time to try and find another solution. How could the foreman not realize there wasn't enough space in the truck for everything? Why did he only let me know late in the day so I couldn't find any other option? And worst of all, how could the office not take *any* responsibility for this mistake? We ended up having TWO move-out days (which is as fun as it sounds) and paying almost double what was initially agreed for the move. We had to call our landlord and tell him we'll move the rest of stuff out one day late. Luckily he's a decent guy and didn't charge us for the extra day, and there weren't tenants moving in the day after. That being said, we were essentially left exposed to a lawsuit from our landlord, as we were in breach of contract by leaving our stuff there. They insisted the reason the truck they brought wasn't the right size was because I didn't mention I had a power rack at my home gym. If you know what a power rack is, it's a metal frame that's about 95% air. You can pack anything you want inside and on top of it. Even assuming that was the problem, it's not like they sent a small truck just for the power rack the next day. They filled a sizable amount of another full sized truck on the 2nd day. None of our attempts to convince Shannon that they should assume *some* responsibility helped. After much insistence, and without a whiff of an apology, they finally got back to us with a begrudging discount - $150... I was going to give them 2 stars because they at least didn't break anything, but then remembered they also broke 2 lamps, a cabinet door handle and a computer screen holder. Moving is stressful enough as it is. Wish I'd spent my money elsewhere. read more

"We give all the shits!" It's true too. I told Rich and Lemarr and Carl at the end of our move that it always feels like such a gamble choosing people to move your stuff because you just don't know who is going to give a shit or not and what do you do if you realize too late they don't give a shit? They are right. Over 2 long hot days these guys wrapped, packed, loaded, and unloaded an incredible amount of stuff (I didn't appreciate before that we owned this much!) quickly and nimbly. They were super friendly and responsive about requests me made to wrap something a particular way, or to handle a lot of unexpected extra stuff like tons of potted plants and bicycles. We're only 1.5 weeks out since our move so we're still going through boxes and still being impressed at how well wrapped, packed, and labeled everything is as we take it out. These guys were SO nice and worked so hard the entire time and did an incredible job not just giving a shit about our stuff, but giving ALL the shits about our stuff. read more

People - solid as they come! - on time (early actually!!) - like having Spider-Man move you (Louis...you're insane) - jovial/enjoyable people to be around for 5-6! - kicked ass! - got done early (least in my mind I had accounted for another 1-1.5 hours!) - just great experience across the board! We moved to the East Bay last month after having lived in San Francisco for 17 years. There were at least a hundred boxes, half of which were filled with books, not to mention little furniture items like a piano (which I forgot to mention until the morning before the move). Shannon Moving was professional, competent, and good humored, from Keith and Peadar on the phone, to David and Robert doing ridiculous amounts of work in a relatively short span of time. They even managed to get the aforementioned piano down 3 flights of stairs, negotiating 90 degree turns without so much as a scratch on the piano (their backs might be a different story). The final touch was an email a few days later making sure we were settling in nicely. Should we move again (I hope not) Shannon Moving is the only number we'll need. I can't think of a single way in which they could be better. read more

These guys are the best! I called them and a few other small local companies for a quote on my move and they were the most prompt, informative and nice as could be on the phone. Pricing was pretty similar all around but their attitude and helpfulness won me over. This was a local move, from Emeryville to Oakland, and I treated myself to being packed, in addition to the move. 3 guys came to pack me and they were done in 3 hours. They were organized, friendly and clearly knew what they were doing, which included getting things ready for move day by staging a lot of the boxes in the garage, so they could go right into the truck first thing. 2 of the same guys showed up on move day, and the new third guy just started hustling too! We got to the new place and everything went as great as possible. Nothing broke, everything was packed really well and they were really respectful with my belongings. Nothing was thrown around or mishandled. For such a stressful time, Shannon as a company made this as seamless and stress-free as possible. Wound up doing a last minute move from San Francisco down to Pacifica and was referred to Shannon moving by a friend. The process and the service was excellent from start to finish. Scheduling with Keith was easy and seamless. The movers called me 15 minutes before arrival and showed up right on time. They were friendly, considerate and extremely professional. Dave and Robert took great care of my belongings and loaded up the truck quickly and efficiently. They even provided wardrobe boxes so that I didn't have to pack all of my clothes on hangers. Unloading was seamless as well and the entire experience was about as pleasant as moving could get. Peadar even called after the move to check that everything was to my satisfaction. Full disclosure: I am friends with the owners. However, I'm not good enough friends to lie on the review :). They've actually moved my wife and I twice now. Once from LA back to the Bay Area a couple years ago, and once just a few days ago, from San Jose to Fremont. They really do a great job of moving. The two movers who came out this time, David and Robert, were seriously awesome. They were incredibly fast, but still careful with our stuff. We have a reasonable amount of huge things - including a monster desk that they fit in with millimeters on each side - and they had us moved in a few hours. I also really appreciated how friendly and mellow David and Robert were. They didn't rush us when I had to do some last minute sweeping, etc. Oh! And they very helpfully had the tools to help me remove and reattach a door so the desk would fit! read more
