    Shrimp tacos and amber beer
    Mary B.

Quite the drive to arrive here, but worth it for good food, beer and music! I enjoyed 3 shrimp tacos and amber beer! One is out in the middle of the desert with dates trees. It's 85 degrees and a nice breeze as I sit in the shade. A relaxing stop! Order food, receive a buzzer, and pick up when ready. Buy beer at a different station. Check days and hours to know when open.

This place has fantastic vibes! There's a large and glorious outdoor area with that feels like an exotic cantina! I love the setup where you order drinks from one station and food from another. I even love the restrooms where the toilets are mini-rooms and there's an outdoor sink. The only thing I don't like about the vibes: the smell. I'm not sure if it's fertilizer for the dates or what but...the whole place smells like manure. Unfortunately, I think the food and beer were pretty mediocre. The beer: only 3 of the taps were from beer brewed onsite. Two of them were on the maltier side, and one was a blonde. There were no hoppy styles brewed on site, which is a bummer. I got the amber and it was ok, but a bit too sweet for my tastes. I sampled the double date which I also thought was pretty sweet. Oddly, the amber had no foam or head at all. It looked like coke more than beer (see photo). The food: I got some street tacos and they were really tiny and really unimaginative (again, see photo). I thought $12 was a little steep for the portion and quality I could've easily eaten six more. (and I had dinner again 2 hours later somewhere else) The service was friendly, no complaints there! This place definitely caters to an older/retiree crowd, I don't know if I've ever been somewhere (excluding maybe a church) where I was unequivocally the youngers person. So it's very possible that this is just one of those rare breweries that is brewery beers for a different crowd than mine.

Easily one of my new favorite places! It's just a quick jaunt from the foothills and over a long dirt road. I always take my jeep, and the parking lot is usually full of side by sides and off road vehicles, though I think if you take the road to the right (just as you're nearing the brewery, the road splits), you shouldn't encounter too much sand for a regular car. I LOVE the date beer here! One is a smooth amber beer, complete with a date on top. They also feature a wonderful IPA, a double, and many local (southwest) visiting beers on tap. The food is on par, and there is often a live band playing. The tricky part is getting the timing right for when to head out, as they are only open Thursday through Sunday, but it's prime for heading over after a hike. They are also closed in the summer, but sitting outside isn't ideal in the summer, anyway. The menu is diverse and viewable online, many items feature dates! There are a few vegetarian options and perhaps one vegan / vegetable wrap option (as well as the chips and salsa) but I've had nothing but rave reviews from my omnivore friends on the everything they've ordered (especially on the Kamman sausage breakfast and nachos). I've also heard great reviews from friends staying in the glamping tents! Though I have not yet tried them. Dogs are welcome :) the seating is all outside amongst the date treats.

Great stop on our weekend trip. Sunday afternoon it was hopping with live music, dog friendly restaurant and great beer! The grounds are beautiful and offer camping. We ended up camping in our Revel Van overnight in the date farm.

I've only ever passed through Yuma traveling around the Southwest, but never stopped to check it…read moreout. I've definitely been missing out. Prison Hill is the classic brewery serving a great variety of beers and food. Lineup for the night: Chango Malo (stout), Crimin Ale (cream ale), Peanut Butter Stout. Each beer was phenomenal in mouth feel as I like the richer, creamier beers. Chango malo had a lovely cocoa flavor. Peanut Butter stout actually tasted like peanut butter without being offensive. You can taste the peanuts behind the butter. The Crimin ale had a good mouth feel but pro tip - don't have a lighter beer between two heavier ones with spicy food. It gets a bit overpowered. On the topic of food, I had the Wrecker sandwich. Soft roll, smoked meat, and crunchy slaw made for a good dichotomy of texture in the sandwich. When you see smoke rings in a bbq sandwich, you know you're eating some primo shit. I'm not a big fan of spicy though but this was the right amount between the slaw and the fresh jalapeños. I felt like deviating from the usual burger and it was a good choice. Looking around at some of the other plates, I don't think I couldve gone wrong. Solid venue, good food, good beer, great staff. Usually I'm not into chains and handcuffs but if it means ending up at Prison Hill, lock me up baby.

I've ate here twice now. The first time was in 2023 and again in March of 2026. The first time I…read moregot "The Jail Bird" and with sidewinder fries. It was very good! Tonight I got the "Prison Hill Smoked Meat Plate" with the tri-tip and brisket with sidewinder fries and macaroni salad as my sides. I must say I was not impressed with this meal. The meat just didn't have much flavor in my opinion. I'd go back for sure because the service is good and the atmosphere is very casual, but I'll try something else next time.
