We took out 17.5 year old Yorkie here because he has a mass in his mouth. Our normal vet in Vista, was trying to be a used car salesperson and add on unnecessary fees and work. Dr. Rivera and the staff aren't that way - they're honest, caring folks who will do what's right for both the owner and the animal. Having gone to High Valley, I felt very comfortable bringing our pup all the way from Carlsbad. It's worth it - trust me. I dropped off our dog and explained what was needed, they took great care of him and his surgery went really well. The majority of the mass was removed and they gave great care instructions. We gathered in a quiet room, where the staff made my dogs comfortable, with treats for 9-year-old Jo March, a long-haired Chihuahua, and for my Chihuahua Huckleberry Finn, who was there so he would know what happened to Jo and not look for her afterward. A vet tech gave them treats. Then, when Dr. Lipari stepped in, there was no rush. She treated Jo with gentleness. After she brought her back for our goodbye, Jo locked eyes with me as she lay down on the soft blanket they provided, never looking away, with Finn next to her, as she drifted to sleep and then peacefully slipped away. Dr. Lipari made all the difference. She was patient, kind, and understanding. I highly recommend the High Valley Veterinary Hospital and their veterinarian. However, they paid for X-rays and are still waiting on a vet to call them to go over them. She calls most days asking for an update and they keep saying "the vet will call you soon". Yesterday she called and was on hold for 30 minutes before someone answered, only to say the vet would call at the end of the day. He did not call. Took my sick dog, an didn't get the experience I expected. The doc asked me " what do you think is wrong with your dog". Gave him meds which he's not eating . We're on 10 day of not eating for him. They did a pcr panel , received results yesterday but still waiting for doc to call with results. My dog isn't doing well a they seem to be to busy for me, for a 10 min call. I asked for the results and they wouldn't send to me. I'd like to get the results for a second opinion. Still no call:(. My dog will probably die from their neglect--- Well, my dog has a diagnosis, but the doctor is refusing to prescribe him medication for that diagnosis and of course the front desk is requiring me to chase him around from his other clinic when that is not my job. I'm pretty sure my dog's on his last few days of life due to their negligence and no help. read more

I've been going to this vet office for a few years now, and I am happy with the care my pets have received. It is clear that everyone who works here strives to give your pets the best possible care. I have noticed in the past few years that they seem very busy. I'm not sure if it is due to more people with pets moving to the area, or if the other vets in the area are not as good. But they often seem overworked/understaffed, resulting in things like: long phone wait times, long lead times before an appointment time is available, not getting a call back, or my pet's medical chart not being updated after a visit. These issues don't happen every time or at the same time. I haven't noticed a negative impact in the care my pet receives, but it can add some stress to me when I am already stressed due to a sick/injured pet. If they hired more staff, they could take their time and little things like a follow-up call wouldn't fall through the cracks. read more

I would be remiss if I didn't leave a review about High Valley Veterinary. I recently took my cat Belle to see Dr. Gilbert. The staff is so nice and caring. While I waited to see Dr. Gilbert there were several people who brought pets in. I observed the interactions of the staff and these people and was impressed with the simple kind and friendly way everyone was treated. Dr. Gilbert spayed my cat on this visit. His staff gave me excellent after care instructions and Dr. Gilbert texted me a couple of days later to see how Belle was doing. My dog had a bit of a problem on his butt one morning and my husband called this vet to see if they could help him before we went to work. They didn't have an appointment time that worked for us since we had work but they said if you come now, we will work on him cause we don't want him to be uncomfortable all day. We were able to get him there before going to work and they got it done. Yes we dropped a pretty penny but it did mean a lot that they fit him in to accommodate us with work. read more

our doctor was dr tran. our cat was peeing on stuff and i took her in multiple times. they ran tests and gave her antibiotics as if to treat a UTI. when that didn't work that was odd because they could see from the tests that she did NOT have a resistance to the antibiotics. so they should have gotten rid of the infection. this would be a clear moment to try to understand the problem deeper. nope. instead he prescribed more antibiotics. and then anti inflammatories. never establishing the actual issue. any good vet would, at this point, figure there was an underlying concern going on. not dr Tran. he just kept slapping a bandaid on the symptoms until it was too late and i had to take her to the ER where they established this was a problem with her KIDNEYS. knowing this, it turns out she should have never been proscribed anti inflammatories. who knows how much worse he made her condition. instead it was too late and she had to be euthanized. i had brought her in 5+ times for this problem. i can't stress this enough-- he had ALL the info and should have been able to establish the underlying condition and chose to only address the symptoms. during the time we were still going to high valley vet, we had a small mass removed from our dog. by the time the biopsy results came back, we'd already established that dr. trans negligence was responsible for our cats death. so when he suggested our dog be on chemo for the rest of her life, i already didn't trust him. i took her to a reputable ONCOLOGIST who said chemo for the very low grade mass cell tumor they removed would be an EXTREME over reaction when all that was necessary was its removal (which had already happened). its chance of coming back was very low and its chance of spreading was even lower. at best he does not think beyond the surface level when it comes to what's going on with your pet. read more

Came highly recommended from prior retired Vet who had been in business for decades and was known for quality of care given and ease of administrative process. Healthcare (Exam and Lab work) was acceptable from a time wise manner only.... However.... The Vet wanted to do lab work upon the first appointment and when advised that there has not been a fasting, he replied, "No problem, don't need to fast" which was odd, since all prior lab work required fasting. When receipts call for a discussion of lab work results, the Vet asked what was needed to discuss, indicating he did not review the lab work results in their entirety and attempted to downplay an increase of more than double and outside the normal range lab work result stating, " let's retest in two months and have fasting be done." When called for a prescription diet to be approved, told to order through a particular website and that the script for the prescription will be sent via email that same day, which never occurred and when called two days later, told by the Vet and Manger, " We don't know who you spoke with, but, we don't send that through email." Then told by the Manager, "The authorization is good for a year, why do you need a script? Told the script is necessary so that further administrative delays do not create problems in delivery timeframe of the prescription food, and potential use of other online sources not affiliated with the Vet." Advised that the script would be available in two days and mailed, which would take 7 to 10 business days (Advised that mailing was unnecessary and a pick up of the prescription would be made at the Vet) and attempts by the Manager to over speak, without recognizing and or downplay the concerns brought up regarding the administrative delays and misinformation given was the final "last straw" towards continuing services with this Vet which is unfortunate due to the original high recommendation given. read more

Anyway, the doctor never introduced himself to me which I found interesting. Overall it was a great experience but I think I'll continue to drive my dogs "down the hill" to Scripps Ranch Veterinary Hospital " They will almost always get you in same day! I hate to even have to do this but I have been calling High Valley Veterinary Hospital for almost three weeks and have gotten no resolution Sooo fuck it. Hopefully this can help someone else when choosing a veterinary office for their pets in Ramona. I will say Dr Gilbert was really good at pretending to give a shit, two weeks ago when he requested I email him a run down of what happened but now have not heard from him since. * * I have been taking my family pets to high valley for over ten years and can confidently say I will never step foot in there again. If I could give them zero stars I would. I took my four month old puppy there May 10th was told he had allergies and he's fine.. prescribed him allergy meds And sent us home. next day May 11th called twice because his symptoms had gotten worse and no one returned my call, I drove over there was there for three hours, again was told to just supply them with a a fecal sample after they could not find what's wrong and not to bring him back, that they don't need to see him again. Spent $375 within two days. Thursday May 12th, rushed our puppy to another establishment and was told he had PARVO. They had him being treated and on IVs within the hour. If I had listened to high valley vet our puppy would have died. I now have emailed the owner of the business and called the office multiple times trying to receive a refund before sharing my story over the last three weeks but have gotten the run around. The lack of compassion and professionalism is beyond me. Do yourself a favor and your pets and do not go there!! On top of this shitty post I do want to thank Veterinary Specialty Hospital- North County for acting quickly and saving Rhonni. I had to choose a new Vet after my old one (Ramona Animal Hospital) absolutely refused to make an appointment and kept directing me to emergency services in Escondido for something that was definitely NOT an emergency (as confirmed by my vet-tech sister whose practice is a city away). They had a waiting list 3 weeks long and refused to let me make a general check up appointment at that time! High Valley got me in the same week no problem. And later, when another one of my dog's behavior indicated to me there WAS something wrong, they got me in the next morning when I called at closing and they treated him to my satisfaction. I am VERY happy with High Valley's staff and treatment options. 4 stars because there is sometimes a wait to be seen for an appointment and sometimes they'll see you right away--in my experience afternoon waits are longer. I don't mind these too much because the parking lot is really pretty and peaceful and now I generally plan to wait by bringing a book and picking up some takeout beforehand to distract myself. The longest I've waited is 45 minutes, but because of COVID I've got nowhere else to be and it's nice to spend some time out of the house, even if it's in the car read more

Doctor ignored my information and worked her up to tune $1000 and said just allergies. 3 days later called said she is crashing ...shes dieing and seems to be paralyzed. Said time to Euth. They said NO let's work her up more and tune another 700. Said want to shoot her up with steroids untill ultrasound. Poor girl is in terrible pain. they arnt thinking of dogs quality of life just $. Today I took my 11 year-old Cane Corso / English Bulldog to High Valley for his shots. I requested Assistant Manny ( she deals with difficult dogs) to help. When I moved up here I worried about finding a vet. I discovered Manny. And brought Buck to "meet" her over a period of 2 months. She would come out, walk around the hospital with a muzzled Buck. He loves her. It's been 7 years now. I still muzzle him. But he is excited to see Manny every time. Today he met the NEW VET ( another worry) DR. GILBERT. NO GROWLING. NO SCREAMING. NO MORE TWISTING AND TWERKING! Thank you to Ms Manning and Dr. Gilbert who came out to greet the BUCKEROO. NEVER GO THERE!!! Worst veterinary practice I have ever attended. Receptionist was rude and veterinarian condescending and un-knowledgeable. Wait time was 1 1/2 hrs for a puppy vaccination. I'm a senior and have owned working sport dogs my entire life. This veterinarian wanted to give a rabies vaccination to my 11 week old pup and I refused. They reported me to animal control who contacted me. The vet tech made my puppy squeal when he rammed a thermometers up his butt without even stroking the puppy first. I also heard the veterinarian giving absurd dietary advice to a client who had a working dog just so he could run a GI panel on his dog!! NEVER GO THERE!!!! read more

My cat had a lump in her abdomen. High Valley got her in right away. She hates the vet, so they had to sedate her to do an exam and sample. They provided us with a reasonable quote. When they discovered the lump was an abscess, they drained it, treated her with strong antibiotics, provided us with care instructions, and actually LOWERED the estimate. I definitely feel like I can trust this vet when it comes to suggesting necessary tests and treatments. I will be taking all of my pets here in the future. read more

I've been bringing my pets to High Valley for over 20 yrs! First, was Dr. Gordon. She treated my pets so well! She was right there with me whenever I had to tell them goodbye and I am so thankful to have known her. A few years ago, she retired and sold the hospital to Dr. Gilbert. I've only seen him a time or two, but he seems nice. Dr. Savage continued on with Dr. Gilbert until she retired and again, I can't say enough nice things about her! She was so sensitive and caring to my family when we had to suddenly say goodbye to one of our dogs. I don't think we could have handled it without her. Now, we see Dr. Serdy and like Drs. Gordon and Savage before her, she is amazing! My old girl is having some health problems and Dr. Serdy has been right there helping me give my girl the best care I can. Every time she sees my sweet girl, she hugs her and tells her, "We love you so much". Does she need to do that to be a great vet? Absolutely not, but when my heart is aching over trying to accept the fact that I may not have my pet much longer, seeing her love on my dog means more than I can say! Now, is it sometimes hard to get in to see a vet? Absolutely, but ALL of the vets in town are swamped! Have I had to take her to the emergency vet? Yes, I have, but I've been back to High Valley as soon as possible. For me, I will continue to take my pets there for what has always been the best possible care. Dr Gilbert was reassuring and kind. Our pup started acupuncture therapy with Dr Lipman and we are so happy we did. Small improvements are happening. We are being realistic but hopeful. Regardless we are happy with the care our fur baby has received and the professionalism of all staff too. I had brought my fur babies here for 18 years. Then, Dr. Gordon retired & sold her practice to Dr. Gilbert around Dec. 2019. It has always been a thriving practice and even through Covid, the 3 Veterinarians and staff managed the situation. All this had changed when last week, my Vet was off on Monday and my fur baby was in pain from a recurring UTI. Never being allowed to speak with Dr. Gilbert, I left a message to please allow me to pick up, at the very least, one syringe of Buprenorphine for her pain until I could see Dr. Serdy (his colleague), the next day. (Dr. Gilbert had previously given me Gabapentin which created OCD, hallucinations & anxiety for my baby.) And I knew that Buprenorphine did NOT have any side effects. After 3 hours of no return call from High Valley, I called & receptionist said that he wrote a prescription for GABAPENTIN!!! So I gave my message to receptionist to relay to Dr. Gilbert what I previously told her about the side effects of the aforementioned drug and that I want Buprenorphine!!! Message was relayed to me that "I AM NOT COMFORTABLE" to give that to my feline in EXTREME PAIN! I now go down the hill to a reputable veterinarian who saw my fur baby immediately & gave me one dozen syringes full of Buprenorphine if needed! They lost my business when they decided to leave my feline in pain over personal feelings because "he" was too busy to look at his archaic system of written paperwork to see that my feline had that drug before.! I can only pray that one day High Valley will put their priorities in order of "do no harm, relieve the pain and treat the patient". read more

Returned home from a long trip with a sick pet. I saw Dr Serdy for the first time and wow was I relieved and happy she was my treating vet. She was first of all very personable and approachable. This vet was recommended by a friend and I can't figure out why. They are ALWAYS late. Both times I have gone in 30 minutes after my appointment and wait another 15 for the doctor. They are very forgetful- completely forgot to send my fecal for cats and of course I was to blame since I somehow should have known how long it would take for results ‍. They do not care if your pet gets better, they do not check in. $300 later and a month of diarrhea and I had to go to another vet to find out the source of cat being sick and a yeast infection in the ear- missed twice. I took my 2 small dogs in for vaccinations and nail trims. The vet assistant came out and put noose type leashes on them and pulled them into the office. She brought them both out sometime later, dragging them with those leashes. Both dogs were choking and gagging. I let her know I was very concerned. I thought they would get better, the younger one coughed and wheezed for about 3 days and it cleared up, my senior Chihuahua wasn't so fortunate, he coughed and wheezed 24/7. I called the vet back after a few days. I explained what happened, the receptionist assured me the vet would return my call. I never got a call, I took my dog to Advanced Care Veterinary Hospital. The ALWAYS carry small dogs, after 3 visits and xrays and meds and $1050.19 my dog recovered from a traumatized trachea, it took 3 weeks. My little dog suffered for NO GOOD REASON!!! HE went in a happy healthy dog, I really thought his life was over, many dogs don't re over from a traumatized trachea! I will NEVER go back or recommend them. We are new to town and needed our senior to be checked out. We made an appointment and waited over an hour after our pups appointment time to be seen. We watched other patients arriving well after us be seen first. The vet finally came out to our car and recommended taking a sample of a few lumps on our Diamond and send them off for testing, but hinted it was very likely cancer...testing was just to determine what we were dealing with. We approved and paid for what the estimate the gave us totaled. On our way home, I got a call and they requested another $100 to test "the other" lump, One which we thought was already to be tested (according to the estimate). Due to the anxiety and frustration from the excessive wait, and the not official diagnosis, I approved the additional charge. Was promised results would be in on 3/24. I called on 3/24 as instructed. No results and was told to call back on 3/25 after noon. I called 3/25 afternoon. Still no results. Called back right before closing because I'm worried sick about these results and was told "we will call you when they are in." First impression, they have NO bedside manor and see the animals as a number. I will await our results and in the mean time find another vet for our old lady. read more

Have had good experiences until Covid. Pull up call and are told "someone will be out in a few minutes" You will wait at least an hour! I have 3 dogs and have had to bring them all in during Covid with appointments and have waited anywhere from 1 hour to 2+hours just to have someone come get the dog. Whats the point of an appointment? At least let people know there is a wait. Left today after waiting over an hour and nobody called to even reschedule or ask where we went. I have been using High Valley Vet almost since moving to Ramona in 2003. Not only do I have several dogs, but I also run the Southern California Vizsla Rescue. Dr. Gordon is honest, caring, and gives you options considering the costs. In Rescue, the costs are critical to being able to help the next rescue that comes along. Most of us have run into those vets where you feel like you just opened your checkbook. I have NEVER felt that way here. She and her staff really care about the animals they are serving. I have been in there for everything from a neutering, to a foxtail up the nose, to a rescue that had severe mental issues (the best way I can describe her) and was unpredictable and biting. She has always been compassionate about the care of the dogs, and even when we had to put down an animal. I trust Dr. Gordon with the health and well being of my own dogs. Anyone who knows me, knows that my dogs are family to me. They get the best and Dr. Gordon is the best vet I have found (even down the hill!) read more
