In October of 2025, we had to take our 18 year old cat in to be put to sleep. He was not a cat that went to the vet and was going to be scared if i was not with him. We were told he needed to have an IV put in before he was given the shot. We asked if we could go into the room with him to help keep him calm, but were told no. After some time, the vest came out and said they are unable to put the IV in becasue our cat it resisteing. I went in with the vet and saw our cat was paniched. i comforted him and they gave hime gas and then the shot. A terrible experienace. He died being very scared . Have they never done this with a scared cat before? Why didnt they give hime gas as soon as they were unable to put in the IV? Seemed quite ridiculous. If you have a cat, i would highly recomend going to a different vet. read more

I brought in a cat I found injured on the side of the road in Ramona. The lady at the front desk told me they were busy. I told her I was willing to pay for an X-ray and office visit. She quoted me $200 to $250 for the x ray and $75 for the visit. I was told to come back hours later and I asked if she had a chip. The attendant told me she was certain she didn't. She returned with a scanner and told me she did! But she never gave me the info.. she simply returned with a quote over $1000. They simply wanted my money for no effort. Three of our neighbors had recommended Adobe so we decided to choose them as the new place to take our "kids". This week we took them in to have their teeth cleaned. We always have apprehension about doing this...but NOT doing it is even more stressful! We met Dr. Metcalf for the first time yesterday. She was wonderful--very warm with a calming demeanor--she was the perfect "antidote" for our two little terriers! And she was so good with us, as well, taking her time to explain everything in detail in layman's terms but never talking down to us. And, we were really happy that the "debrief" was with the Dr. as well. She explained how one of our dogs had to have an extraction, which was a result of finding it on the (optional) x-rays. Nurse Michael was wonderful as well, giving us so many tips about home dental care. Both Dr. Metcalf and Michael recommended products, but never pushed us to buy anything there. Thanks to Corrie & Tiffany in the front office as well--really nice women who have it together. Great experience! read more

We've been going to Adobe Animal Hospital since 2013 and have always been pleased with the service. However, on June 2nd my Teddy Cat needed emergency care and the staff went above beyond their usual service. We got an appointment within a couple hours of when I called in. Teddy was a very sick kitty and after tests to rule out less serious conditions Dr Perry recommended that he be transferred to an animal emergency hospital to better diagnose Teddy's condition. When I picked Teddy up that evening, all of his records were ready, as well as a CD of the scans done so that the emergency room doctors would have all the info they needed and wouldn't need to repeat any tests. There was also a certificate for the Super Star Patient Award, in recognition of the great courage Teddy had shown during his visit. It brought a smile to my face as it had been a stressful day. Sadly, the following Monday, June 7th my brave Teddy lost his short battle with Lymphoma and again I was calling Adobe this time to get information on cremation services. Again the staff was efficient and sensitive to my very emotional state (I could barely speak without sobbing). I'd lost pets before, but Teddy's passing hit me especially hard as I'd adopted him during the quarantine and he'd been my constant companion for months. When I went back to work he'd greet me at the door and hanging out with me all evening. I received a follow up call a on June 9th as Dr Perry had returned to work and heard the news of Teddy's passing and called to see how I was doing. It meant so much to have her call and check on me. I also received a sympathy card from the entire staff. I will always remember the kindness that was shown to me and I heartily recommend Adobe Animal Hospital. read more

I met Dr. Wood a few days ago, I'm so glad I did. I was out camping in Julian with my 16 year old dog and my vet from Ocean Beach called to let me know that Lewie, my dog required subcutaneous fluids. Tests were were back from days ago while we were in San Diego and his numbers were bad for his kidneys. I called around in Julian and nothing was open, so I tried Ramona, thankfully they allowed my vet in OB to fax his results so they could treat him in Ramona. I am telling you, I never felt so relieved to meet such a good man, and doctor as I did talking to Dr. Wood. I explained that I was a computer nerd but did not understand the kidney readings so he went into great detail of the results showing me the normal range and Lewie's results and what it could be, and when to worry. Then he said he wasn't sure if Lewie had acute issues or long term but at his age he was fair and did not give me false hope, which I truly appreciated. Yes, I get emotional about my pet but the emotions come from love, and a great respect for an animal that rarely gave me any trouble and was a true companion. So I explained that his quality of life was the most important to me, and that even if I wanted to spend all the money in the world on getting him better, I needed to do this without exhausting my dog out of selfishness for myself and my love for him. I said it's hard to hear, but please tell me if he's in pain? He said no, he did not believe he was in pain, and he called me back today to see how he was. I explained he didn't really seem better or worse. So he said it's up to us now what we decide. I believe it would be very disrespectful to my dog to continue to pump him full of drugs or perform procedures if he's not happy at his core. Neither of the vets said that we should put him down or not, they leave the decision to us, but I will say this, if Dr. Wood lived in OB, I might only go to him. In fact, I may only go to him even with the drive from OB. My vet in OB is also very respected by Dr. Wood. I am so happy they worked together to help Lewie by sending the results and getting him the help he needs. I think Dr. Wood helped me best when he explained these 5 points: 1. Does he greet me when I come home? 2. Is he happy to see me? 3. Is he eating and drinking? 4. Is he moving and getting around? 5. Is he bonding and connecting to the family still? For my dog, right now, yes, he is doing 1-5, but has gone deaf and looks very tired when I come home. So now the decision is up to us, wish us luck making the right one. For now we are going to just keep him comfortable on his journey. We shall see what the future holds. But I know one thing, we will put Lewie's comfort and happiness at the top of our priority list. So much has changed over the years at Adobe! From going to five stars when Dr. Woods owned it to now. They are continuously changing Veterinarians, if you are a patient and have a sick animal, they can't get you in that day and sometimes not even the day after, they constantly try and push their "care club" membership on you and the prices on their exams and vaccines are a lot higher than the other two Vet offices in town. I paid $36.50 for a rabies shot at Adobe, the same day it would have cost me $19.00 at Ramona Animal hospital. Also, I paid $70.25 for the DA2P-pv! Routine vaccines should not cost that much! You can go over to Kahoot's Vet clinic and get the same vaccine for $32.00 and rabies for $19. If you don't mind paying VCA's higher charges, not need to see a Vet urgently and don't mind all of a sudden showing up your Veterinarian is no longer there, then it would be an okay place for you. read more

It was my first time here, and the last. Mikayla is the BIGGEST sweetheart, and provided excellent customer service. She deserves 5 stars. However, upon entering, we were greeted by a very rude girl named Courtney, which almost made me turn around and walk out. If you don't like dealing with people, or don't have the patience to, find a job not dealing directly with people. The prices here are entirely too high to be treated like trash. Then they called after we left to tell us they "accidentally" overcharged us. There was only 1 other customer there soooo? Now I'm wondering how much we overpaid. The reviews on animal care and treatment aren't exactly raving either, so I won't be back. I suggest finding a nicer place that's not going to try and rob you. read more

BEWARE! The rattlesnakes are out very early this year, rain or shine. Our 15lb JRT was bitten this week. We called straight away to give these folks a heads-up that we were on our way in. Within 20 minutes of the bite, we had him in the hands of Dr. Perry, Dr. Tran, and staff. Upon our arrival, they were very responsive. They did collect a deposit straight way (that's normal- this is still a business, folks). They also presented a preliminary treatment plan of action so that we weren't presented with any financial surprises at discharge which we appreciated. Our dog received a full work-up of meds, anti-venin, labs (diagnostics), IV fluids, etc. The plan was to continue his care after hours at another local vet in North County. However, when we picked him up at the end of the day he was quite stable so we elected to continue monitoring him at home. No two rattlesnake bites are the same. Each dog is different, and there are so many factors that can result in a multitude of different outcomes. Our little guy fared well, thank goodness. What I will say is that for as costly as vet bills can be, the bill was not "over-the-top" and at the end of the day you have a commitment to take care of your pets. That being said, we were SO glad we had pet insurance. A SMART investment in their care. I submitted our claim and within 24 hours the insurance company had a check in the mail! I boarded my two shih tzu here for a week and they were supposed to be bathed and taken care of when they were there. When my granddaughter picked them up for me she said they didn't look clean or look like they had been bathed. When I returned home my usual chubster was so light and you could feel her backbone. She also had ear infections in both ears that were oozing. I can't believe if she wasn't eating I wasn't contacted and no one noticed the ear infections if she was bathed at a veterinarian hospital! read more

I have been taking my fur children to Adobe for over 15 years. As you can imagine we have had to face the awful process of euthanasia for some of them in this time. We brought in our older female dog to have a small growth removed that she had licked raw. We advised the doctor that we were on a fixed income and needed to keep the procedure limited. We were told it would be over $1300 and the growth might return. I see Avie M in her review the same issue. If a spay procedure, which is a full surgical procedure, then why was this so expensive? When I told the doctor I couldn't afford that amount he seemed annoyed I was even bothering having her seen. The cost for the spay procedure with medication is less than $300. The worst part is our beloved furry family member still has the growth and has to wear a collar to keep her from licking it. The facility is new and clean but I left feeling they didn't care about our pet. read more

First time ever coming here. My mini aussie had an anal gland abscess. I called High Valley Vet and they couldn't get me in that day cause they were overbooked so I gave Adobe a try they were able to squeeze me in same day. I was always told they were a little more expensive for things, but there office is so clean and super spacious. The vet assistant and vet were so great with my dog!! I've waited about a year to write this review because our last experience at this vet was so awful it makes me furious to talk/think about. My family has been bringing our collective 8 dogs (+ 1 cat) to this vet for many years. One of my dogs was taken from his mother too young, and because of that used to have a lot of anxiety and was a very fearful dog. We had previously asked this vet for some form of anti-anxiety medication for him but they refused without doing $1000 in testing first, which we could not afford at the time. We then decided to start behavioral training with Paul and Britta at Aspire Dog Training - they did an amazing job, and we saw SO MUCH improvement in his behavior. He was confident and much less fearful. We (my husband and I) boarded our two dogs with Aspire twice and never had any issues - our fearful dog thrived in their environment. However, right before our honeymoon, our other dog was diagnosed with brain and spinal cord disease and we wanted her to be at a vet for the few days we needed to board them in case she needed immediate medical attention. We booked both dogs in to stay for three nights, along with my family's other 4 dogs at the time. Before we boarded our two dogs, we called ahead to ensure that they were comfortable boarding a fearful dog - they said "oh yeah, we deal with big aggressive dogs all the time - he won't be an issue". (Side note, our fearful dog is about 35 lbs - a medium sized dog. Our other is 12 lbs.) This made us feel a lot better about everything - but as we found out later was a huge lie. And for the record - he has never been actually aggressive - he would just bark and act tough but then back up/hide when he feels threatened. (He no longer has this issue, either.) When we arrived to drop our dogs off I asked if I could take our dogs back to their room to get them settled, and I also asked if they could stay together. Our dogs sleep in the same crate at home and are rarely ever separated. This closeness also helps keep the fearful dog's anxiety at bay. They refused both requests and although I was a little unsettled by this, I had high hopes that they would be able to manage based on the fact that we had seen so much improvement in the behavioral training from Aspire and that this vet told us they worked with "very aggressive dogs". I also gave them treats for him and told them how to best interact with him based on the training we had been doing. So flash forward a few days into our honeymoon, I get a call from my mother after picking up the dogs that she was told our dog (the fearful one) could never board with them again. I called to speak to the manager and she told me, and I quote, "when backed into a corner he showed signs of aggression" and that he "made aggressive eye contact". This obviously sparked a lot of concern for us - because why at any point... would our dog have been backed into a corner?? And what animal (or human for that matter) would not be upset by that? The bottom is line is that we were lied to about their experience with fearful/anxious dogs, and they refused to do anything we told them/asked them to make him more comfortable and less anxious. When we returned from our honeymoon and picked up our dogs from my parents - our dog was not the same. It was like all the training we had done over the last six months had disappeared and instead of being the sweet and happy dog he usually was, he was lethargic and depressed. I truly believe that the people "taking care" of him during his stay here were potentially abusive on some level. I truly, truly regret and feel awful for boarding him at Adobe. Like I still feel immense guilt for what he went through here, and how we was treated. And it's worse not knowing exactly what happened or what they did to him. It took three weeks for him to finally get back to himself after this experience, and I regret ever taking him here. We have since left this vet and started taking our dogs down the hill to Midland Animal Clinic - which has been such a better experience for us. We have had no issues with either dog at Midland. And if we were doing any traveling this year (which we aren't thanks to Covid) we'd be boarding our dogs with Paul and Britta still. Bottom line, if you have pets that are anything other than perfectly happy being left with total strangers who back them into corners, and don't have any form of fear/anxiety - don't bring them here. read more

When our dog got kicked in the face by a horse and broke multiple teeth, another local vet in Ramona told us our only option was to see an endodontist in Encinitas ($1200 in X-rays to walk in the door). We called VCA Adobe on the off-chance they could do something. They removed his four broken teeth and stitched up his gums at FAR less cost than we would have paid in Encinitas (no X-rays necessary). Since then, we have always had good experiences. Even though our dog is fearful/aggressive with staff, they handle him well. We've moved out of Ramona, but we recently brought our dog back with an eye problem that had gotten out of control. They called all over town and got us an appt with an eye clinic the same day. Great service, as usual. The benefits of this clinic are: they are full service (unlike some other Ramona clinics), we've never had trouble getting an appointment right away, their vet techs are good with difficult dogs, and they always go over cost before treatment and are willing to drop services if they're too expensive. I am very unhappy with the level of professionalism and lack of informative this vet hospital provided. I took my 14 week old puppy in due to an issue he was having. He is one that will bark and is fearful of strangers and it can be assumed that he is an aggressive puppy. The information presented to me by the vet was that he should be neutered to help with this aggressive behavior. She never informed me of the possible side effects that early neutering can have on a growing puppy. I was taken advantage of and misinformed by their staff. They also proceeded to give my puppy his rabies shot at 14 weeks. Recommended time for this is 16+ weeks. My dog may never develop mentally or reach his full height because his only source of hormones was stripped from him too early. Had I been given all of the pros and cons of doing this procedure early I would have NEVER choose to have this done. They are a very unethical company and they do not have the best interest of the owner or pet in mind only the bottom line ticket price that is presented on the iPads. read more

One star for the beautiful new facilities. That's the only positive aspect I can recall. I took my older Chihuahua in for a small pendulous growth on her side. Instead of trying to befriend her, the vet put a muzzle on her poor old face that dug in so painfully that Belle was trying to get it off while whimpering. The vet took this as "viscousness" and said they would need to use general anesthesia to remove this tiny growth because Belle would "blow" right through a sedative. Um... Possibly. If they were using Benadryl to sedate her! So they wanted to subject my scared but generally friendly 16 year old dog to the dangers of GA to remove a little wart-like growth to the tune of over $1300+! They also said she had dental disease (which she did) but wanted over 3K to pull 2 teeth and clean the rest. It costs less than 1/4 of that amount to have 3 horses vaccinated, sedated, dental floats and exams! They wanted to charge me almost $300 to spay my 2 lb new Chihuahua. The spay/neuter clinic in Poway spayed her, gave her extra care and fluids, pain meds, rabies shots for both dogs and nail trims for under $100 for everything. It seems that that big fancy building has a big fancy mortgage. Unfortunatey, I can't afford to pay it for them. Peace, Avie PS: I let Belle l chew on the growth. Adobe Animal Hospital was there for us during a triing time with our "son like" dog, Kahuna. Say what you want about this hospital being all about profits, that was not our experience. When are dog was suddenly striken with liver disease, they took the initiative to run all appropriate tests out of pocket. Our dog was being treated for seizures at Adobe when he was suddenly diagnosed with crhonic liver failure and died within 48 hours. It was a horrible and awful experience for me and my wife but the Hospital took the business angle out of the treatment and did everything they could for us. We miss you Oxe! We have been using Dr. Wood and Adobe Animal Hospital for close to 2 decades and we have never found a more compassionate or caring vet. Our pets are like family and the quality of the veterinarian care is what matters. Dr. Wood and his staff are intelligent, knowledgeable and caring. They constantly provide all of the facts and options so we can make informed decisions about our pets care. We have had four dogs under their care since they were puppies and all have lived will into the canine equivalent of their octogenarian years. There isn't another veterinarian I would consider using. read more

I have a multiple, indoor pet family, 10 cats & 2 dogs. Adobe has been my Vet for many years. When Dr. Woods sold the hospital to a Corporation,compassion andhumanity exited with him. I am 84 years old and disabled and no longer drive. My friend drives me to appointments and picks up Rx's for me. I have a diabetic cat that requires insulin 2 x a day-I ran out of Syringes (my fault). My friends were on vacation and I have no one available to pick them up, could they deliver them to my house, they said they were not allowed to do so. If Max does not get his insulin he will die - end of story!! read more

I am beyond irritated with this scam of a veterinarian! Their fees are absolutely outrageous. I didn't mind paying them the first few visits but today threw me over the top. I started going here to get my ol' lab's ear infection treated. I spent over $300 the first visit and went home with some drops and antibiotics. The infection returned. I took her back and and dropped $400 for an ear culture and new medication. The infection returned in a month. Two weeks ago I dropped $577 for another injection, ear cleaning, drops and both types of meds. They asked me to return in two weeks for a follow-up check. That was today. I was outraged they they wanted to charge me $40 for that visit! For what?! After all the money I have spent that doesn't include a 5 minute follow up visit?! After this review I am contacting the Better Business Bureau to fie a complaint. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!!! STAY AWAY!!! read more

We took our Cavalier King in for an uncomfortable bumb on her tummy and left with an estimate that read like a Chinese food menu. 13 line items and over $1,200 to just diagnose her. Charges include things like antibiotic shot? When they also Rx oral antibiotics. Charging for additional X-Ray views $200, FOR WHAT? Her 12" frame is just too big for a single X-Ray?
