This is a fun indoor activity option during the cold winter months in Ohio. If you live in the greater Cleveland area, then take a 30 min drive to Medina, Ohio to do some go-kart racing. I visited in September 2019 but I wasn't originally going to ride. I was helping out at a kids event called the "Mushroom Rally". Me and some other workers got to ride at the end of the night. We all had a BLAST! The go-karts go super fast, apparently up to 50mph. The karts also go reverse unlike traditional go-karts that only go forward. PRICE - 1 adult ride is $19.99. SAFETY - Being safe while driving is always important. Before entering to ride, you'll be given a helmet to put on. Make sure to buckle up too. SNACKS/DRINKS - They have a small area where you can buy chips and drinks. SEATING - There are several bar type stools throughout the place for go-kart race viewing. They also have sofas/couches towards the back where the TV's are so you can lounge. Go karting inside all year round is every kids dream. Coming in the summer when they have the outdoor portion of the track open is definitely way better though. They do discounted races on sundays but you apparently have to mention it before paying. This policy is not posted anywhere on their website, social media post promoting this pricing, or anywhere at the facility. It's been a few years since I was at the HVIK opening and I am happy to update that it has only gotten better. How so? 1. They have improved the computer systems. This helps check-in, race scheduling and the email of results. There are no better bragging rights than passing around the office the results of the race! 2. They have even more games and other things to do in between races. Rumor is that they are opening a indoor activities place in the same building. I love me some ax-throwing competition! 3. They have alcohol and better snacks. Note that if you decide to imbibe, your racing day is over :) 4. Junior karts. My daughter was too young (or maybe too short) to race the original cars. As long as you are over 9 years old and 48" tall, kids can race in the junior-only karts. Note that there is no mixing the adult karts with the junior karts because it just wouldn't be fair!! HVIK is not cheap, but this is a high-quality experience. If you check out their calendar, you can catch some discount days like we did. Also, one race is never enough. We came here this afternoon for a couple rounds of indoor go karting. You have to pre-register, which didn't take too long, then you had to wear this head cover (which smelled of someone's shampoo/ head anyway) before putting on the helmet. Wished they helped out with wearing the helmet as you couldn't see how to buckle it down. Then came the best part of the thing - the race ! The indoor track is about a quarter mile, so, it was fun but after a while, the track just wasn't long enough. I felt that I was doing the same loop over and over again. And the track width was not wide enough at a lot of corners for others behind you to cut through and bypass you unless you purposely slowed down and pull to the far right, which would slow down your race time numbers. Overall, not a bad track for first timers, one round (8 mins) is enough. read more

So much fun! These karts are really quick. I loved the fact that they can time your laps precisely, allowing you to race your friends. The karts are pricey, at $20 per 8-minute ride! They have fast charging lithium ion batteries that last longer and charge faster than traditional batteries. The place is not bad, the real kicker is the Foundry Social next door that has many games and food. The karting itself is pretty mid. First, the track is just to small to even do anything so if you are stuck behind someone good luck passing. They say they will blue flag to make them move, half the time the person wont even see the flag if they even call one in the first place. Secondly, the karts themself are pretty bad. I did 3 races and I can confidently say only 1 of my karts actually worked correctly. The other two karts where slow and had a horrible reaction time to when braked and pressed the gas pedals. Also, $25 for a 7-Minute race??? They don't do grid races its based off lap time, so if you are stuck behind someone you cant do anything. Only on certain days they have cheaper races. They are the only time id consider going, but anyway if you are just trying to have fun with family this place wouldn't be a bad place. Yet if you are a competitive racer or someone who wants to be a legit racer I would not recommend. After hearing nonstop commercials for High Voltage Indoor Karting on the radio, I decided to book a group of 7 of us here for my brother's bachelor party. Everyone had a blast! I booked the reservation months in advance and the staff there made everything simple! I put down a deposit and paid the balance when I got there. Driver registration was quick and easy online and they send you an email reminder the day before your reservation. The facility is located in an old foundry building at the end of a residential street, which was a bit odd, but it's a really nice setup they have. They have a snack stand and there was a food truck out front too. There's also arcade games and a couch and TV area to catch up on sports. You check in at the front desk where they take your picture for pole position and standings board and give you a head sock for your helmet. You can even rent a GoPro to mount on your helmet or bring your own! They'll send you a text letting you know that your race starts soon. Walk over the bridge and a staff member will give you the low down on the rules, how to work the go-kart, how to put you helmet and neck brace on, etc. The package I picked consisted of 3 races of 4 laps each. These karts are super fast, going up to 50mph! Realistically, the straightaways were only long enough to hit maybe 35-40mph, but it's still a rush and so fun! They recently expanded their track to add an outdoor section, (weather permitting) which was really cool! This place isn't cheap, but it's definitely worth checking out! I had a great time here with coworkers! The karts were fast, the staff was friendly, and the course was half inside and half outside, which was great since it was such a nice day! These are some of the fastest go karts I've ever driven, and the sharp turns make it that much more fun! It seems to be a bit pricey normally, but I think it's a good deal during the week. I am glad I experienced this once, I am not sure if I would come again as the two races were quite enough fun for me, but definitely a cool place to check out when you get the chance. read more

First time here for the Mushroom Rally Mario Kart races. We were blown away! So much fun! What an awesome day. I have read some other reviews about young kids not being accommodated. Perhaps since it was the Mushroom Rally our three year old had a blast even without being in a kart. Everyone that worked at the actual establishment was bend over backwards nice. Lauren was super helpful, and made us feel right at home. Even helped us get our toddler comfortable and took photos for us. One of the directors and Beverage managers ( Kaitlyn) was so passionate about the place and got us even more excited to come back. 45 min drive was worth it for us. We will see you again soon. This place is a great time to say the least....Back Story: A couple nights ago my GF followed me home from dinner, and she stated on arriving that she had just played a nightmare version of Mario Kart and that we should go karting... Two days later I text "hey I am leave work in a little...Find a go kart place" And she not only finds a go karting place but damn near the holy grail of go karting....The karts are fast the track is a not you traditional oval but more in lines with a legit race course ( i.e. we found out they have legitimate leagues)... Long Story Short after our first 8 minute run on karts that can exceed 20 MPH, I got out of the Kart feeling like a giddy teeny to find my girlfriend in damn near tears from the crazy competition nature of the other 8 racers (including me). I went here for my son's birthday party when he turned 18. The staff was very welcoming, efficient and helpful. The facility is clean and beautiful. There are plenty of places to take group photos and selfies. And there is plenty to do while waiting for your turn to race. It seems a bit expensive until you are finished with your first ride. A little overpriced and the no bumping rule is certainly not enforced. It was our first time here and it takes a second to learn the kart and the track. Well apparently this was not acceptable to the young boys we raced with as they hit us multiple times (apparently they don't know how brakes work) and told us as they were leaving (with their mom) that WE needed to learn how to drive. Apparently these kids are regulars and staff knows about their behaviors but still allows them to come. I would have at least liked a heads up when booking our time slots, as I probably would have opted for something later to avoid them. Management is supposed to handle the situation. But the carts are not nearly as fast as some other go karting tracks and the track itself is very tight to the point where you cannot make a pass without really bumping someone out of the way. I wanted to like it. Well, let me back up...I have zero karting experience. I mean zero. I've "driven" the gas powered carts exactly once before ever and knew going in this was going to be crazy different. I want to note there's a safety meeting. There's basic instruction "gas right/brake left" a lesson in flags. I guess the rest is either knowledge I wasn't born with or others just know instinctively. At no point was the "I have no idea what I'm doing help me." A possibility---this I found lacking. We did one race. I was in over my head by the time I was rammed by four carts on the first turn. (Oh, yeah..that no bumping thing...not a thing.) I wanted the signal to let me just go back into the pits and stop the madness by the end of my first lap....no such signal exists. I saw more blue flags than exist in all of the flags of the world...and I know it's a result of not having a clue how to get that cart around the track. I could take no turn without pulling aside; so many people who knew what they were doing made my learning curve a flat line (and not the kind that makes you fast.) I wanted to enjoy it...and the two moments that I didn't feel utterly inept and useless I might have enjoyed it. Except at $20/race there's no chance I could afford to learn via the "OJT" without any instructions or tips. I looked up to see if they offered a "I'm new and need help workshop"; that's a no. It's luck of the draw if you have a chance of taking a corner without a blue flag...and my pockets aren't deep enough to try to figure it out. Finally, when it was over...a young girl asked me if I had fun. I said no (because I don't define fun as being scared and praying for the insanity to end because you can't get the cart to go any faster, fun) She didn't inquire what happened; she didn't say "I saw you had some trouble can we help you" (she was blue flag girl...so I'm betting she knew I was having trouble) nope, I got an "oh, sorry." I never saw my lap time (would rather not). Never was asked beyond that one girl how it was. Which is why the low stars. I can't blame the track that I have no skills in carting. But I can blame the track that they didn't attempt to help or find out how they could have helped. Maybe I'm hopeless and would never have improved...but we won't know, because I wasn't given the chance to figure how what I was doing. (Note: my husband had fun; so maybe he will be back. He wants to believe there was a power issue with my cart...but by the end of 8 minutes of humiliating torture; I couldn't think straight to sort that out. However unless they add some teaching, I can't just pour my wallet out in hopes I'll figure it out on my own.) read more

The track is far too narrow, so when you're in a race with 9 other drivers, there's no space to maneuver to pass without causing a crash, and every crash stops all vehicles (but the clock is still ticking). Because the track is so SHORT (even with the other traffic and several accidents, our group was taking laps at 30s or less), you end up lapping the same slow drivers repeatedly with no hope of overtaking and staying ahead of them. These problems would be incredibly simple to fix with a slight redesign that better utilizes the building (which is enormous). For instance, there's an entire bar area that can be used as a waiting area, so there's no need to have 25% of the warehouse space dedicated to empty space, arcade games, and tables. Create slightly wider tracks, maybe even mark in lanes to encourage folks to stay far enough out of the way for a pass, and lengthen the course to eliminate folks from getting stuck behind the same slow drivers repeatedly. In addition to the frustrations faced on the track, the neck pillows they hand out for safety are useless because they're too small, and the helmets STINK inside. Great concept, love that they're real go-karts, but there are definitely a lot of improvements needed to make it worth $30 for a 7-minute ride. read more

We were told a start time for juniors that was about 45 minutes before they actually started and ended up waiting 2 hours total for 2 junior races. I wouldn't come here with kids 12 and under on the weekends for sure, especially if you have adults in your party who are going to be going way sooner than the kids (they run 2 adult races for every junior race, even if you have kids lined up waiting). read more
