This coffee shop was so promising with its big windows and lots of natural light to work by. The parking lot is big so you won't struggle to have a spot and most importantly, there is free WiFi! It could be such a nice place to work remotely with a laptop but this and the fact that they carry Truvia (a sugar free sweetener) are the only selling points for me. First, logistics. Despite a nice workspace, there aren't that many outlets so come early and snag a spot by the few on the far walls. Otherwise, you'll last as long as your battery does. Secondly, the service. The young lady with long brown hair was rude. I and another person awkwardly stood at the counter as she made eye contact, then continued with her coffee making tasks, ignoring us. It would have been nice to say, "Be right with you." When I asked for napkins, they were partly wet with coffee and grounds... From her unwashed hands. I ordered an iced coffee and some sort of tropical chicken salad with mango and avocado. The iced coffee was quite burnt and the chicken salad wasn't quite right. I thought it was the coffee throwing me off because I couldn't even finish half the sandwich or coffee. This meal ended up being the only thing I would ingest that day as I ended up so sick for the rest of it. I can't say for certain if it was the chicken or the hygiene but... Not the best experience. I ordered a latte, " for here". I expected a real cup, not a paper cup. Why are we wasting paper cups, and lids? Besides, I really enjoy drinking coffee from a real cup that much more. The coffee was fine, tasty and a nice head of foam. I also had the raisin oatmeal. That took almost ten minutes to come out. Although it was nicely covered in generous portions of almonds and raisins, it was also absolutely smothered in honey (not mentioned on the menu). I get oatmeal to eat healthier, not to consume my weekly sugar intake. And why did it taste like peanut butter? I dunno, maybe I'll give them a second chance, maybe not. read more

Not a great "Christian" establishment if you ask me. My daughter would study here very often and every time she would buy food and drinks. She recently went in as usual set all her things down along with her yeti cup full of water. She stepped away to the ladies room and was walking back to the table to get her wallet out of her backpack to purchase her usual sandwich and smoothie. As soon as he saw her the owner made a snide comment to her about how rude it is that she go in and take advantage of the free WiFi and study space without purchasing anything as well as bringing her own drink. Not only this but he has introduced himself multiple times to her and he never remembers her, let alone how much money she has spent at this coffee shop. Ordered the combo breakfast and specifically requested eggs scrambled "medium", meaning cooked just long enough for eggs not to be runny. Well, the scrambled eggs were way over cooked, tough, nearly burnt, and rubbery instead of soft. Bacon was paper thin strips, and super salty. Toast was okay. No hash browns available. Line of 2 people to pick up order moved extremely slow due to chitchat. So for over $8 for 2 rubbery eggs and paper thin bacon, waaay overpriced. read more

Higher Grounds is in a great space and decorated to be comfortable and chic. You can get breakfast items from their full menu and of course a wide variety of coffee drinks. There is one register and you pick up your food from the counter but I don't think you have to worry about there being a line. One of their signature items is breakfast in a cup. The serving is cute and small. We had eggs and bacon and toast and all relatively simple breakfast items. Everything came out fluffy and satisfying. The only issue with Higher Grounds is the awkward staff and wait time. For two lattes it took FOREVER to receive our coffee; the baristas need to take some of their own caffeine and get a pep in their step. This establishment is homegrown and operated but the owners who are very sweet. But waiting for food and drink when there is no one else in the shop is always awkward. I'd be willing to bet that these kinks get worked out with time but slow service can break a coffee shop--I hope Higher Grounds doesn't let it set their reputation. read more

The food is mid ihop is better . I personally like my coffee sweet and this was just bland mine had an earthy taste. & the employees dont like taking accountability. I ordered an iced drink and it not only took 15minutes to make my drink but then he made it hot. It's 90+ outside, who would want a hot drink? When I asked if I could get my drink iced because I'd specifically ordered it iced (not hot), he said "well the drink is like 150 degrees right now soooo I can make you a new drink but you have one right now soo". First of all, you made my coffee wrong probably because it took you 15min to make it. The people are friendly and always welcoming. It's a nice quiet place to sit and chat while enjoying a Nutty Irishman. I stopped going places for a long time in midland due to poor customer service. I felt as though employees were not really interested in customer service but more interested in just getting to the next payday. I have NEVER felt that at Higher Grounds. If you haven't been, then you need to go, it's well worth it. Everyone speaks to you, there is a gentleman there that you don't see making drinks, owner perhaps, but he comes around regularly to everyone there and chats, asks how the drinks are, very genuinely friendly. We came here because we heard it was good. Our sandwiches were no different than what we make at home. It was overpriced as well. There was only 1 employee and she would take an order and go get it started and then wait on the next customer. Very slow!! I saw 6 customers leave because it was taking too long. $2.50 for a medium tea and it was about as big as a thimble. We won't be going back. read more

Like many things in Midland, you may find the reviews of this place artificially inflated by people supporting a "good Christian business owner". I'm sure I will get a response as they seem pretty on top of the reviews (which is unnecessary, I won't return) and I'm sure Yelp will bury this review as well. Considering just the coffee and service, as that is all I experienced, I will tell you it does not deserve the ratings. My husband and I have just returned from Chicago and many a great Italian and French bistro with amazing coffee we couldn't bear to go to Starbucks. We were on Andrews hwy and decided to stop in this place for the first time. I ordered a chai latte and he got a latte. The place was empty. We took our time checking out the menu before stepping in line. The cashier was very odd. either no or unsettling verbal feedback was given during our transaction. No one else was in line when we walked in or after we sat down. It took about 10 minutes to deliver our drinks. When the cashier brought our drinks he appeared to realize he didn't know which was which. He lifted them askew as if weighing them. Then eventually sat them down and removed the lids to stick his face in and smell them before determining which drink to deliver to who. It's Midland so we decide: "whatever" and continue our conversation as our coffee cools. During that time they finish someone else's drink and call thier name. Another employee says "I think she's in the bathroom" and the odd cashier stomps off drink in hand and you hear (mind you - hear, not see) a conversation in an echoing area (presumably the bathroom or just outside) of him delivering the item to a surprised woman. At that point, we still hadn't tasted our drinks but my husband tells me it is time to leave. He gets jittery when things are out of the norm. On the way home I finally taste my beverage. It was extremely mild, not at all representative of the strong spicy flavors of chai, could have easily been a normal black tea with milk. My husband's latte tasted as though his milk was not steamed (he ordered whole milk) it also could have been skim or 2% milk which was lightly steamed. His espresso also had a very weak flavor, even if the espresso was high quality or a light roast it wouldn't leave such a strong watery taste on the palate. It's also possible the espresso filter was old/clogged and they had to use more water or they didn't pack in enough grind. At any rate, the result was subpar. 2 stars because I would rate the coffee higher than McDonald's/Folger's but less than Starbucks or Brew Street (which I would give 3 stars). I would give the service 1 star, as it was creepy and if my husband wasn't with me I would have left mid-order. Best coffee in our area for me is still CPL Ray's in Odessa. Wish we had one here, but would be happier for something better still. Also, what is the deal with coffee shops here when you tell them the drink is "for here" giving you a to-go cup? Really kills the chilling with your espresso beverage experience. Also impacts the flavor. read more

The coffee is just ok. I went by twice and both times had to wait as no one manned the register. The coffee is slightly burnt (drip) tasting. I found it very odd that I ordered the same thing each time I went and was charged a different amount. Nice atmosphere and plenty of space to relax and stretch out. Higher Grounds has the best tasting coffee in Midland- hands down! We are coffee lovers and when my wife came home praising the great tasting coffee. After a dinner date, we decided to stop by. I had their Caramel Macchiato- it was amazing. Not too sweet, and the flavor of the coffee beans really came through. The coffee was a bit woody with some flowery notes and made for an enjoyable cup of coffee. The atmosphere is very coffee-shoppie, so it really facilitates hosting work groups, doing homework and studying, or just reading a book. 10/10 would come back. read more

Great coffee and food. The dining area is open during the pandemic, with precautions. So, I could sit and enjoy my coffee while catching up on email. While the national chains are shut down, the locals are doing business! I had a huge cup of banana berry oatmeal, which was delicious. The owner, Robert, greeted each customer and thanked them for coming in, as he was clearing tables. I love seeing leaders who demonstrate a servant's heart to their staff and customers. read more
