My son went in for a regular cleaning and ended up being charged $441!! (Actually I get charged, since he can't afford much) I know he could have said no but he is young and did it. Good lesson for him that some dentists clearly take advantage, they sold him a $35 toothpaste, to a 25 year old!!! Shame on you. I live in an expensive city and a first visit package is $149. I decided to switch to a closer to home Dental facility and received many referrals to Highland Dental. Unfortunately my experience does not match many of the reviews. I went to have a consult and a teeth cleaning. Dr. Mike looked at my x-rays and immediately referred me to a Specialist. I next went to the Specialist who said this was not major but they would take care of it however they referred me back to Highland Dental to do the routine cleaning. This would have saved me money as the Specialist is more expensive and I don't have insurance. Dr. Mike's practice refused to do the cleaning even though the Specialist referred me back. I would never recommended a dentist who refuses to see a patient!! read more

I've been going to Dr. Mike and his team for a few years - usually only for cleanings / x-rays. Sometimes I've had insurance, sometimes not. This last visit, I had a cavity - something I haven't had for 40 years, and was a bit nervous. Mike's team made me feel comfortable - the work was done quickly, painlessly and professionally. Very happy. I will also note, given some of the other comments, Mike's team was very transparent and patient on the costs (currently do not have insurance). No surprises, which is always good. Embarrassingly I have not been to a dentist in probably a decade. I hadn't have any issues beyond staining so I just never bothered. A couple of years ago I did go to another dentist and they said the usually no cavities but in need of a deep cleaning and it would be $900 with insurance so I passed. While I still did not have any issues I got tired of looking at the plaque between my teeth, my wife suggested this place and I'm glad she did. Clean office, quick service and friendly staff. They got straight to work with the initial exams and such. Turns out I did need a deep cleaning but it would be $150 and that's without insurance not $900. They take care of children as well so looks like we have found a new family dentist. read more

Jessica was the technician that did my MDI cleaning. She was very professional and skilled. I appreciated her using the numbing spray to reduce the amount of feeling when doing the cleaning. She explained the process and showed me the prior X-ray photos of why this level of cleaning was needed. She even explained the proper flossing technique and the plan going forward for my dental health. Dr Michael inspected my teeth and assured me the upper two back teeth did not appear to be cavities and would be continuously monitored in future dental visits. The copay was within the ballpark that his assistant stated it would be at my last visit. I will be returning in 6 months for this quality dental care. read more

Essentially the environment was professional, clean and somewhat modern. The staff was friendly and helpful and my dentist, Dr. Nguyen was very cordial. What was alarming was the "doom and gloom" prognosis given and scare tactics devised to get me to pay and pay NOW. They would only offer me a "treatment plan" that included the actual dental work itself and not the physical hardware...In other words they refused to give me the estimated cost of a partial but had no problem laying out the rest of the inflated costs which according to the 3 dentists I've gotten treatment plans from makes zero sense. I even tried an additional phone call and visit to get an estimate on the partial but they would not budge. Go elsewhere. read more

I am not even a patient here, but I received three phone calls confirming "Mike's" appointment - to the point where I thought this was a scam. These were left by Kaylee. The first time, I called back and left a message that they had the wrong number. The second time, I ignored it. The third time, they left personal information on my voicemail about Mike's insurance and the reason for his visit. I called to tell them (again) they had the wrong number and Morgan said "Well, it's a HIPPA VIOLATION, but there's nothing we can do about it if a patient gives us the wrong number." Um, yes there is- first, validate your records with the patient (business 101) and second, don't leave personal messages. So, if you want sloppy record keeping and a facility that dos not value patient privacy (or HIPPA apparently), go here. Having just sat down to have my routine cleaning (8 yr) patient was notified that I must have dental x-rays. As I have not had them prior since 2010 and it never has been an issue I stated that I did not want them. I was told that it was policy that they perform them. I said I didn't want them again and was told that they would not perform services unless done. I said that was fine and I will find another dentist. They said fine. When I walked out the sign out front says $49 for new patient cleaning and exam. I returned inside and asked or that deal. I was refused the offer. Asked to speak with Dr. Mike and was asked to sit down, that it would be 30 mins. Since I had just left and knew from experience that my cleanings there do not take that long and Dr. Mike always comes in, I left. Just my experience, take it for what it is worth. I have been with Highland Dental for about 4 years or so. They are wonderful! I love that they have Saturday hours because this works perfectly with my work schedule. The staff is very pleasant and professional! They have state of the art equipment and do everything possible to make sure that your experience is a good one. Very professional and outstanding customer service. The doctor did an awesome job extracting my wisdom tooth ( which was very difficult to take out since it grew sideway). The process did not hurt at all and took less than 30 minutes. I also liked the fact that you didn't have to wait long like any typical medical place. Had my wisdom teeth removed here yesterday and the experience could not have been better. Everything was explained to me in detail, I was given noise canceling earphones to enhance my comfort and the staff was super patient with me. I am well on my way to 100% and it's only been 24 hours. No pain and I woke up this morning with no swelling. I have been putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed because of all the stories you hear from people who've had bad experiences, well I'm glad I finally did it. I would not refer my worst enemy to this Office. This office is racist and unwelcoming. I changed dental plans to a higher quality PPO plan to get access to a higher quality dentist and found Dr. Mike with Highland Dental. I scheduled my appoint a week in advance and was told by office personal "Mike" he would be verifying my information prior to my appointment date. The morning of my scheduled appointment I received a call asking me if I could come in earlier due to Dr. Mike schedule opening up (which I didn't ask for) after I told the office personal I could not change my schedule she said ok. I later received a missed call from the office w/o voice mail and when I returned the call around as I was on my way to my 2pm appt I was told my insurance would not cover, I asked her to dbl check that, she put me on hold 4 times came back and said it would not cover full mouth xrays but everything else was covered. nearly 30 mins between her and "Mike" I was on the phone waiting to find out if I was covered. Mike was very RUDE and was unapologetic, short and didn't offer any solutions for the bad communication of contacting me last minute to speak about insurance. I then told them I was going to be late due to being on the phone with them, Mike told me if I did not get there in 20 minutes or less I would have to reschedule. I asked for a consideration since I was on the phone with them trying to resolve that last minute issue, he responded If you get here in 20 mins not a minute over we can see you so come on. I do not feel this office cares about patients or they just don't care for Black patients. I later scheduled at a different Dentist with far better ratings and they were able to verify my insurance within 15 minutes and booked my appoint. for the next day. I never received an apology for any of the mishandling of my appointment nor did they care how they treated a new patient. I was looking for a dentist in a HURRY for an emergency extraction of a bad tooth. I visited a certain dentist in Smyrna who begged me to get a root canal even though I told him I couldn't afford it as I wasn't working at the time and even after insurance it was an $800 procedure. I realize it's a dentist's job to give you options and to try to save your tooth so I wasn't upset when he basically refused to do it until I'd gone to see the Endodontist he recommended -which meant I had to pay another $100 for someone else to beg me to keep a tooth when I knew wasn't an option for me at the time. Not to mention having to schedule an appointment with someone else prolonged my pain and agony. Anyway, I did what I was told, saw the Endodontist, which was a huge waste of time and money and tried to get back to the original dentist to pull my tooth which he promised he'd do once I had the consult. Well when I tried calling his office, he had zero free slots until over a month later. I explained to the receptionist that this was an emergency and he and I had already discussed a plan and told her that he said he'd take care of me and I was in way too much pain to wait. That didn't away the receptionist at all and she basically seemed cold and unfeeling. I decided to reach out to another dentist and that's when I found Dr. Mike at Highland Dental. They took me right away and after I explained my situation he didn't try to pressure me to go anywhere else he just took the tooth. The first thing he did when he walked into the room before the procedure was put a hand on my shoulder to reassure me I thought that was awesome. It was very quick. Something else that impressed me was the fact that his prices were reasonable and my insurance covered most of it BUT he originally thought the extraction would be more than it ended up being so he corrected it and saved me money. I wouldn't have known the difference if he'd stuck with the original price so it was honest of him to do that. Since that day I've been back twice for a cleaning and fillings and I've made this my dental practice my new home! It's a clean, beautiful office with entertainment in every room but you never have time to entertain yourself because the service is so fast! I had a cleaning and two fillings and was out in under an hour! The staff is also very professional and pretty friendly. I also like that they're open on Saturdays, makes scheduling appointments convenient when you can't get off work. My only critique is that I'd love it if they could explain a little more before starting the procedures just for myself who can get a little nervous. But, they're so fast that then just get in, do what they need to do and have you out the door, can't be too mad about that. Dr. Nguyen extracted my tooth on February 3, 2018. He and his dental assistant seemed pleasant enough and professional. However, the gatekeepers (receptionists) can benefit from some customer service training. One of the receptionists, Katy, scheduled me a follow up visit for today, February 17, 2018 at 8:40am. I arrived at 8:30am and was told my appointment had to be rescheduled because my appt was at 8:20am. The waiting area was completely empty and Dr. Nguyen only had to check that my extraction had healed properly. I asked Katy to please check with Dr. Nguyen to see me. I stated she may have made the error since I'd written 8:40am in my calendar. Katy returned with a condescending unprofessional attitude to say "sorry we'll have to reschedule your appointment". There was another receptionist at the desk, a male, who heard my displeasure with Katy and told me to "have a nice life" as I was leaving in a disrespectful, uncaring, unprofessional manner. My children and I have been visiting Highland Dental for many years now. The staff is always very professional and extremely helpful. My daughter is super nervous before any medical visit, and they always do their best to make her feel at ease. Dr. Nguyen contacts us a few days after each visit to discuss any concerns that we may have. They are also very honest with pricing, I seem to always have credits to use towards my account. Lack of integrity when it comes to prices and I had to tell staff what previous dentist said in order for them to locate the problem. Make sure you get a treatment case plan for pricing and double check before your service because they will change the pricing on you and I have the paperwork to prove it. read more

I have to say my visit to the dentist today was actually pleasant! This was my first visit to Highland Dental. The staff was extremely pleasant, especially Bonnie. I had an exam and cleaning, and was in and out in 30 minutes. I liked how Dr. Mike and Bonnie worked as a team throughout the entire process, from X rays to cleaning. While driving home from a meeting last Friday I took a bite of popcorn and knew something was wrong. A piece of my tooth came out. We had moved recently, so I called my husband and asked him to find a dentist quick. The first place in Smyrna he called didn't seem to think it was a big deal and said they weren't seeing any more patients that day. He asked for a referral but didn't get one. He did a search and found Highland Dental. He called and told them what happened. Next thing I know my cell rang and I was given directions to their office. I was welcomed and reassured they could help. What started as one broken tooth turned into a second one also seriously cracked. I panicked, but they helped me work out the finances, made a temporary crown for the two teeth, and even worked late to make sure I was ok. I have found a new dental practice! read more
