Sam C., I'm sorry you're unhappy at Highland Manor. You are right about one thing, though. There are some homes in the community that need repairs. Some of them are even owned by us. Unfortunately, folks who don't take pride in their homes and don't maintain them won't enjoy living at Highland Manor for very long. Sometimes, when needed maintenance is brought to their attention, they walk away from their home and abandon it rather than take care of the problem. Then we end up with the home and it becomes our problem. We've taken some of these homes and completely remodeled them. Others we have simply cleaned up the yards, torn down a dilapidated shed or fence, or made other visual improvements to the outside and offered it for sale for $250-$750 to a new homeowner who wants to take over and fix it up from there. There are even homes that needed so much work, inside and out, that they were an overwhelming project to any potential homeowner. We invest $5-6,000 repairing the roof and/or completely replacing the siding and making sure the exterior appearance and quality of the home is weather-tight and up to community standards. We may still only sell that home for$500-1,500 to a homeowner that wants to continue the interior repairs on their own but, now the home is attractive, no longer a eye-sore to the surrounding neighborhood. In this way, we've made slow and steady progress in the overall appearance and quality of the community and gained some great new neighbors who have done some wonderful things with some of these homes! Concerning rental law . . . the MO Statutes are available online. I've read them several times and consult with our attorney regularly. However, I'm always open to learning something new. If I've made a mistake about something, I'm very interested in knowing about it. Please feel free to show me the statute that says we should be doing something differently and we'll do it differently. I appreciate your help on this matter. Thanks to the slow and steady progress we've been making in community improvements and clean-up, our empty spaces are beginning to fill. We have three new neighbors moving in this month and, so far, at least one scheduled for next month. Due to the progress we've made, and the investments we're making into the community, we're beginning to get regular phone calls from homeowners looking for a better place to move their home and raise a family. All-in-all, we're proud of the progress we've made. There is always work to be done and we will continue to do everything we can to keep moving in the right direction. I absolutely love living here. The staff is very friendly, understanding, polite, and all around great people. They work very hard to keep the community clean and safe. The kids love going up to the pool during the summer, and the community center is a beautiful place to have a get together or family event. The community also has get togethers from Bingo night to a Halloween party. Would always recommend Highland Manor to anyone looking for a great place to live. read more
