Highlands Poke is an all frills poke establishment. It's the opposite of what you would get at a Foodland in Hawaii, but the food here is still solid. If you've never been to one of these chipotle-style poke eateries before, you will be overwhelmed by colors and choices immediately upon entry. Luckily, I'm a mastermind at ordering here (just get everything). However - this method didn't work out perfectly for me this time, because it turns out that lemon is slightly strange on these bowls. I think that lime would be a better fit. If the make-your-owl style isn't for you, they also have premade combos. All of the ingredients tasted very fresh, and the place was impeccably clean. These should be table stakes for a seafood establishment, but you don't always see that everywhere. If I were stuck in this area again, or worked at the local hospital across the street, I would definitely be back. Funny enough, the Safeway across the street actually sells poke. My family stopped by Highlands Poke for an early dinner one weekday evening. I don't frequent poke shops too often, but that night, we were seeking something quick, healthy and wholesome. While I could have customized my own poke bowl, I was overwhelmed by the endless combinations, so I turned straight to their five specials. This included their Salmon Lover, All About Tuna and Garden Bowl, but I went for their Aloha Crunch which included three different proteins with a spicy kick. Their Alice's Special also sounded like a good combination that would be ideal for someone who prefers no spice. ALOHA CRUNCH ($16.99): A base of half brown rice and half spring mix came with tuna, salmon and octopus as the main proteins. Toppings included cucumber, onion, seaweed, small scoop of spicy crab salad, corn, masago, furikake and crispy onion. As a final touch, the bowl was drizzled with medium spicy sauce and Gochujang. I really enjoyed all the ingredients and everything tasted fresh. I rarely eat octopus, so while I preferred the tuna and salmon, it was nice to try something different. Between the creamy crab salad, crunch of the fried onions, pop of the sweet corn and crisp cucumbers, there was a variety of textures in the bowl and the combination of all the flavors complemented each other. The spicy sauces on top added just the right amount of heat for me. Also, other than the Garden Bowl, this was the only one without pickled ginger, so I really appreciated that. As for the portion size, I personally didn't have any complaints about mine. I felt there was a fair amount of fish and the split between greens and rice was perfect. Had the base been all rice, it would have been too heavy for my liking. However, my sister assembled a custom bowl (regular size for $13.99), and she felt that the scoops of fish were skimpy. We were the only customers around 4:30 PM on a Friday and a single employee manned the entire shop. While he was really efficient in creating our bowls, he pretty much just went through the motions with minimal conversation and expression. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here as maybe he was just feeling under the weather that day. Regardless, I could see myself returning again for another Aloha Crunch! read more

I unfortunately have to agree with another Yelper in the reviews - this was a miss for me. My husband and I have been to multiple poke places in this area and this was not on par with the other shops. The portion sizes did not justify the price (you could get a lot more and of the same quality at other shops, AND for cheaper) and the taste was just okay. My husband got brown rice and I got white rice for our bowls and both were dry and undercooked. As nice as it is to have a poke place in Issaquah, let alone the Highlands, we will not be returning. read more

I have been several times, great for a quick yummy lunch. I personally think the portions (as a 14yo girl) are perfect size, a regular is filling, the large is 2 meals. My go-to order is brown rice, cucumber, avocado, crab salad, medium spice level, mango, green onion, cilantro aioli, edamame, sesame seeds, crunchy onions and cilantro. It's my second time to Highlands Poke and there is a reason I came back. The ingredients are fresh and high quality, their service is similar to other poke places, but somehow better organized in a way I cannot define, and the choices to make it healthy still taste great. I used to only do poke with white rice. Then I migrated to half white rice and half spring greens. Other poke places, the brown rice didn't look appealing. Here, I get brown rice and spring greens, and next time I'm going to try the kale. It looks great. Service isn't super fast unless you're the only person here, but otoh if you're waiting you can check out all the ingredients and options for a little bit. Highly recommend! read more

I actually really enjoy what seems to be a family establishment's poke- it's fresh and much more flavorful than the other chains. However the portion sizes do seem smaller, and they close at 8pm which I know is not unusual in a suburb, but the other poke places are open later. They're also now charging extra for additional items such as spicy vs regular crab salad which they did not do a few months ago- I understand needing to make a profit so I can't entirely fault them. I just wish the portions especially with the fish were slightly larger. read more

If you are truly longing for Hawaiian style poke, you probably won't be too satisfied by the food here. But if you just want decent food that is relatively healthy, then I think you'll find this place acceptable. If it doesn't say Hawaiian poke, I may even give 4 stars. I don't mind eating the poke bowl from here, but also don't have any urge to come back often. Food is not bad and I finished my order of a large bowl. It has a lot of non-poke stuff and I would rather have more raw fish than the crab salad. It's obvious the raw fish were recently defrosted, which doesn't mean it wasn't sushi quality but the texture is just less bouncy. This place is new and I hope the owner will improve on the quality of raw seafood and flavor. There are plenty of ways to acquire more knowledge of making Hawaiian poke. I want this shop to be successful because I don't want to always drive 30 miles to get authentic Hawaiian poke. Therefore to the owner of Highlands Poke, I'm counting on you to improve. read more

This is a great addition to the highlands. Ironically, this opened at the time of the heat wave and was the perfect stop to grab some refreshing poke. I like that they have variety of different fish. The salmon, yellowtail, and albacore was all very fresh. They have a good variety of toppings such as garlic crisps, edamame, corn, mango, seaweed salad, and a choice of regular and spicy crab salad. In terms of protein choices they put some vegetarian options like egg, mushroom, tofu. I know some other places offer the egg as a separate side for extra besides the selected protein option. Avocado as usual is an extra charge. The sauces are a bit more mild and not overpowering. I wish it had more flavor but it is probably because I chose the non spicy sauce. I did like the cilantro aioli which usually cilantro is not my preferred topping choice. My partner chose the spicy sauce I liked the flavor. I did get a bit black truffle oil on top and surprisingly this goes really well with the fresh poke. This place is simple and high quality. We will definitely be returning. read more
