I often dine at mom-and-pop local places seeking neighborhood gems that are worth the drive, as opposed to ones that are 'good' because it is near you. Zushi Sushi is somewhere in between. I would not say to a Seattle person to purposely drive there. But I will say to folks nearby that it's a worthy restaurant. The place is neat and tidy, not showing its age yet, even though I know it has been opened for years. The service is swift and to-the-point. I am fairly certain this place is Japanese owned. Prices are fairly reasonable without the common 'Eastside tax'. I often find older restaurants to be more reasonably prices due to lower overhead. The Food: Avocado Bomb, $10 - 3.5 Stars Other than a bit too covered with tempura bits, this dish met expectations. The price matches what I have seen in Seattle. Salmon Belly (Sake Toro) Nigiri, $7 - 4.5 Stars Good cut and good white fatty stripes for sake toro. Thumbs up. Lion King, $15 - 4 Stars Menu: California with seared salmon on top and parmesan aioli, unagi sauce, scallion With these type of specialty rolls, presentation is as important as the ingredients, combination, and creativity. This roll as the best out of the three we ordered. Zushi Flower, $19 - 3 Stars Menu: Shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy tuna with seared salmon on top, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, parmesan aioli, and kaiware, red tobiko on top This specialty roll did not at all look like the photo. At $19, it's the most expensive amongst their rolls. Disappointing. The ingredients and taste were fine. It didn't warrant the Zushi namesake, and I don't see 'flower' in its presentation. Cherry Blossom, $15 - 2.5 Stars Menu: salmon, avocado, cucumber, and tuna on top This roll was the most 'man-handled' looking roll amongst the three we ordered. It also did not look like the photo. In one of the pieces, I spitted out a brown piece of something. It turned out to be the tip of the avocado. They graciously offered to take it off the check or make a new roll. Grilled Hamachi Kama, $14 - 2 Stars This was a very dull and boring hamachi kama. Not much seasoning, not much sear, the skin is not crispy, yet the fish is overcooked to the point of being dense. Tempura Oreo, freebie We were gifted a tempura Oreo. Interesting and pretty, but not something I would order. No rating. I wish Yelp would do half stars. I think they are a solid 3.5 Stars. Great value sushi restaurant located in a small strip mall. We were able to park directly in front of the restaurant. It's on the smaller side but was completely empty around 5pm on a Monday. A couple other tables filled up as we had our dinner. Service was great! We were given complimentary miso soups at the beginning of our meal and enjoyed some basic rolls and seaweed salad. All soy sauce on the tables are low sodium by default. At the end of our meal, the server brought us a free deep fried Oreo. Good first experience and nice value for the rolls. read more

Stopped by this little spot for a later lunch. The exterior definitely didn't stand out or captivate you, and the interior was very average. They were pretty easy to find though and had free parking. The service was average, but the staff was nice and friendly. They were responsive, but did have to get flagged down for things we needed. The menu covered appetizers, nigiri, standard sushi rolls, specialty rolls, teriyaki, katsu, donburi, udon. Although, their non sushi menu was very brief. They did serve alcohol and they were also family friendly and had a kids menu. The food was priced average and you got pretty good portions for it. I came here on a Monday for lunch with my daughters. It was very quiet but a couple people dining alone during lunch hour. The staff was very attentive and helped me a lot especially with the kiddos making a mess. My daughter ate all her udon soup as well as my baby who ate most of her chicken teriyaki and gyozo dumplings. I ordered an omakase and was surprised it was sashimi and not sushi. That was probably my fault and I should have specified. It was good but not out of this world (or to make a pit stop here). I would come back though for the service. We had a great service and food experience. The four of us came on a Sat night and had no trouble getting a table. They seem to do a brisk take out business vs in person dining. We started with the Seared Salmon Balls ($15) and they were really good. We ordered multiple rolls - Sky ($18), Sinful ($16), Orange Blossom ($15), Emerald City ($16), and Three Brothers ($18). Our favorites were the Sky and Three Brothers. My bride isn't a sushi person and ordered the Salmon Teriyaki ($18) - it was okay. Summary: 10/10 recommend, go here Sushi is AMAZING. So so fresh and delicious, and I am picky with my sushi. We had the Cherry Blossom Roll, the Lion King Roll, and the Salmon Lover Roll, as well as maguro nigiri and the Avocado Bomb appetizer. Absolutely gorgeous presentation on all of them! The green tea was hot, fresh and yummy. Restaurant is so cute on the inside, super clean and relaxing, not too dim, and the music was a tasteful with good volume. The service really earned the five stars, and not just for the complimentary miso soup (a great surprise). The lovely woman working (I believe her name is Somi) is the SWEETEST EVER. She served us with a big smile and answered any questions we had. These are good people who truly but their heart into their food and their business. Decent little sushi joint tucked in a small, non-descript strip mall in Issaquah. Service isn't the friendliest, but that was perhaps due to a language barrier. Service: Went to Zushi for a friends birthday. We all ordered one roll each, 4 of us. Two of the rolls came out in 10 mins, one more 5 mins later and the last roll was not ready for another 20 mins and the rest of the party had finished. I had her package it up to go so I could eat in the car as we drive to our next engagement. The server apologized and stated they there really backed up. The amount of online orders I saw her bagging up with substantial. It's obvious they prioritize there online orders vs customers sitting in the restaurant. Food: sadly the rolls were underwhelming, mushy. The rice was over cooked and the flavors were just not there. I can not recommend this restaurant and I would not eat there again. read more

This place is one of our favorites for Sushi in the Eastside. Only reason why this is not 5 stars is location. Everything else is really good. Service. Friendly, fast, knowledgeable. Our waitress also had recommendations based on our taste. The Sushi chef came to our table to check things and made sure to also recommend a few items. We have come frequently and they are very consistent in great service. Food. Their sushi is very well prepared. I tried the seasonal special with tuna. This hidden place in Issaquah, definitely picked the wrong location! This should move to Seattle area. Their fish quality is really great. It definitely has little bit of up and downs on the fish depending on the delivery date, but ask server or the owner what is good, they will be honest. It is a bit prisey for the Omakase, but chef uses different sauce for different fish, based on what is best to go with. Also it has wasabi so let them know if you want them on the side. One of the sauce is owner's special secret sauce and it is very unique. Their new menu, Ramen is also great. They just started to serve them, I am pretty sure it is about the same quality as other famous ramen places you know. The bad side of this restaurant is that they don't have a sushi bar to sit. Another great sushi place in Issaquah, came early to beat the holiday crowd, parking can be challenging in this strip mall, but plenty of parking across the street. Lots of delicious looking choices for sushi and sashimi to choose from, something for just about anyone, with vegan choices as well. After looking over the menu, I choose the house salad, fresh, crispy and the House dressing was delicious, the Black Dragon roll which is a California roll with unagi on top, and the Three brothers roll, which was spicy salmon, asparagus, and cilantro inside, and Jalapeño slices, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail on top with ponzu sauce and chili aioli salsa. Both rolls were rolled firm and tasty! A little spice, fresh fish, and flavorful sauces. Plenty of wasabi and ginger. Good enough, that soy sauce wasn't needed. Quick and friendly service, yummy choices to choose from. A few good choices of Japanese beers. Definitely with return visits. Plus it's close to home. So many choices of good food In Issaquah! I heard about this place from a friend so I stopped in . Let me just say when my food came out it was like art on a wooden sled . And it was really tasty . The only bad thing was that although she as very nice my server seemed to be deaf . I asked her for a Hot Sake she brought me a beer . I almost just drank it but I was really looking forward to the Sake so I asked her to fix it . She did , with COLD Sake . Whatever . It looks like a hole in the wall kind of place , but the food was good! We ordered a caliente, drunk, sky, and spider roll along with a tempura deluxe (assorted tempura). To be honest, the sinful and caliente roll are similar to each other, just their filling and toppings are reversed, so I would make sure to order one or the other. My personal favorite was the spider roll, which had a deep fried soft shell crab as part of the filling. The taste and portions were good. Overall I thought this place was so-so. The servers were fine, the zushi special roll and ama ebi were prepared well but the biggest letdown was the lack of variety from the chef's selection of their omakase platter. We had a lot of repeats of sake, escolar, hamachi, and tuna. For $100, the value just wasn't there. We tried to order sea urchin and toro / chu-toro but they were out of it, even on a Saturday night right when they opened. I ordered DoorDash from this place one day while staying late at work. Good sushi, incredibly poor value. Salmon/Sake Sashimi (4 out of 5): I'm a big fan of salmon sashimi so I just had to try. The sashimi still tasted fresh and cool even after the delivery time, so that was a big plus. The flavor of the fish was above average in the Puget Sound area, but not "outstanding". Spicy Salmon Roll (3 out of 5): The spicy salmon roll comes with avocado and cucumber. It was overall well constructed, though I would've preferred a bit more rice and a bit less spicy sauce. The spicy sauce was a little overpowering and it was of the type where it brought just fire and no flavor, so by the third roll I wasn't able to taste the fish. Value: (1.5 out of 5): This place is expensive. I had no clue my $6 order of salmon sashimi only came with two pieces. The spicy salmon roll was $8. Unfortunately if I were to have a filling meal, I would have to likely spend upwards of $30. Overall, the sushi is above average for the area, but I can't justify it for the price. read more

Gem of Issaquah! While visiting family who recently moved here, they strategically brought us here for a delicious lunch! We ordered the Lion King, California Roll, Crazy Horse, Peter Pan, Rainbow Roll, Salmon Sashimi & Salmon Poke Bowl. Also combination veggie & shrimp tempura. seaweed salad, cucumber salad, chicken teriyaki (there were 7 of us!) The Salmon was super fresh, buttery and melted in your mouth. Superb service, elegant lighting & soft music, created a lovely ambience after our hike. We also discovered Ramune drinks which were delicious. This is a great addition to Issaquah with exceptional service and quality sushi. ** TIP: Combination plates are only served during lunch. For dinner, the menu is limited to their sushi selection, appetizers and salads. I didn't mind too much, but it would be nice to see the same variety available during dinner. As a group of four, we shared the tempura appetizers ($6 each) and five sushi rolls. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and made-to-order with quality ingredients. The tempura was perfectly crispy and served immediately out of the fryer. Both were delicious and lightly breaded. Miso soup was complementary - it was served steaming hot, but was very salty. The California Roll ($7) was one of the BEST I have ever tasted, which is saying a lot because this is a must for me at any Japanese restaurant. I also enjoyed the Caterpillar Roll ($13) - the eel and unagi sauce provided a sweetness and the avocado was so smooth. The Crunch Roll ($9) and Spider Roll ($9) were both good, but could have lightened up on the amount of spicy mayo which overpowered the rest of the ingredients. We thought service was great! From an immediate greeting at the door to a couple check-ins and water refills during our dinner, our server was so attentive and personable. The chefs behind the open kitchen even thanked us for visiting. Pricing was reasonable, although the Caterpillar Roll was on the pricier side for 8 pieces. Great dinner as we were coming back from Yakima and wanted to try some place new. One of he stars of the restaurant was the waitress.
