From my school's campus…read moreto the mall, watching the random people, we call the general public, is quite entertaining. however, NOTHING was more wild than interesting than those who chose to walk the streets of the People's Fair. Miss Laura L (aka my sister!) and I had a cute yelp booth, perfectly stationed directly next to the kettle corn ( yummmm!) and the beer cart ( perfection!) and seemed to attract a fun yet odd crowd. Here is just a few things we laid our eyes on: 1. sunburns galore. me included. boo. 2. sweaty brows. ew. however, our yelp fans and wrist bans came to the rescue! 3. tons of children with painted faces. awkward. 4. overweight men and women carrying turkey legs, funnel cakes, margaritas, and cigarettes. (some had them all.) 5.angry drunk people. one specifically who demanded my bottle of water, which was not a prize our wheel o yelp offered. after her yelling at me, i said "thanks" and turned away, before she tripped and moved on to the next booth. blah. Fabulous fun=people watching, visits from yelpers....who brought beer, and over 1100 sign ups for our newsletter. YAY!! i am one happy yelper :)

Now when she added in that it was FREE and would feature a lawn showing of Labyrinth; I was all in! So we made our way to Lakewood's Heritage Center to rock out like it's 1986! The folks at Lakewood's Heritage Center rolled out the red carpet for patrons of the event. Allowing us to browse the various buildings and exhibits. Many buildings were actually moved from other locations in the area and relocated here for preservation/restoration! Neat! I loved seeing the motel and the school house. Def some great history and knowledgeable volunteers on site. Live music was provided by Hey, Lady! There were a couple food trucks on hand to help satisfy those hungry bellies. Moe's Original BBQ, Eaton Healthy Food Truck, Baker St. Pretzels, and Paciugo Gelato Caffè; all there slinging their tasty wares. The event boasted a "beer garden;" including: CAUTION: Brewing Co, WestFax Brewing Company, Green Mountain Beer Company, Green Mountain Beer Company, Ironworks Brewery & Pub, and LandLocked Ales. Which I was quite excited about! That excitement quickly tapered off when I realized that not all the breweries were well (if at all) represented and the selection was minimal (mostly IPAs, odd). Which made it even more disappointing when they ran out of cider and the back-up was Stella's Cidre. Oh well, it's not a brew fest after all. All-in-all it was a really cute little shin-dig! Love that the Lakewood Heritage Center thought of such a creative way to bring the neighborhood together.

I was down to my last bar so I did a stock up. Once you try this soap (amongst other products) you will be hooked. The owner Daina is super knowledgeable about your skin needs. You can't find soap like this in any grocery store. She also has a website where you explore and order online. Super friendly, awesome prices. Hands down the best booth here. What a great time this past summer at the Boulder Creek Festival! Even though I've been here I few…read moreyears, it was my first time going. It's set along the creek with ample space for fun. There's usually an art show happening too so there's lots to do. You buy a reservation online for a drinking window. Get there on time cause once your times up, you're out! So go as early as you can for maximum sampling. And you'll want time too, cause there's like 25-30 breweries out! Local favorites like Avery and Stem, and some National big buys like Woodchuck cider. You get a pretty cool glass too ( sometimes half the reason for going!). Overall, can't wait to go next year!

Yelp takes over opening night at the Arapahoe County Fair!…read more I've been meaning to check out this fair but somehow have not been until this yelp event. I was a big fan of the vendors that were at the VIP tent. I love lazy dog! They catered the food. I am a big fan of Launch Pad Brewing Company too. They have a very fun trivia night that I like to go to. I used both my drink tickets for their beers! We were provided free tickets to the fair which all tickets come with unlimited rides. I had fun getting to rid all the rides. My favorite is the swings! There was also lots of shows to watch. I got to see the wheel of death, bmx show, and mutton bustin. I had so much fun. Thank you to everyone involved in setting up this event for us! I am definitely looking forward to going to the Arapahoe County fair next year!

I am a big fan of Elite-only events, because it encourages Yelpers to get to know each other more instead of just relying on the companionship of their +1. But, if there was ever an event to bring a +1 to, it was this one. Who wants to be at the fair or go on rides alone? While some people did get to bring someone, I didn't find out about that option until after I was there. I surely would've brought someone if I knew! But I was glad to find a recognizable Yelp buddy later on at the event to hang out with. The tent we were supposed to go to was a bit hard to locate, but I just kept asking people working at other tents, so thankfully they knew where to point me towards! Our spot was a small tent with other non-Yelpers inside, which can sometimes make it awkward (especially as they & their kids are pocketing the Yelp swag for themselves!). It was wild to see a former Bachelorette star there from way back in the day working the beverage table! Trista, if anyone knows her from The Bachelorette, was serving drinks as part of her fundraiser. As was her daughter from, yes!, the man she chose on the show, Ryan (who is from CO). Their daughter looks so much like him! The food was very disjointed and unlabeled. I had no idea what was going on there. It went from a scotch egg, to what appeared to be Indian food, then something that looked like mashed potatoes but was, I think, whipped feta, to plain deli sandwiches. It made zero sense to me. Then cups of hummus that had two pita chips stuck in it, which 1, the part of the chip stuck inside was soggy from sitting there too long, and 2, just two little chips wasn't enough to eat all the hummus, so a lot of that got wasted. A couple of raw veggie options to go with would have been nice. The little slivered brownies were good. I really think, after discussing with another Yelper, that it would have been better to get food vouchers for the vendors there and choose our own fair foods to eat! Would have gone so well with the theme instead of the catered hodgepodge, non-fair food. I didn't realize what else we were doing at the fair, but other people in the tent told me we could go ride the rides for free! I was like, ok wow, that's cool, I didn't realize... I guess at this fair you pay an entry fee and that is it, no more payments or buying tickets for the rides. That's something very unknown to me, being from another state. Every fair in recent memory didn't include rides once you're inside, so I was clueless. So, I did hit up a few rides while there. Was fun. Then, I went to find some animals. The main show area where large animal activities would be held appeared to be closed. Many of the small animal areas you couldn't get close to and were blocked off, so that was disappointing and also different from my experiences at fairs like these. Then, I found an outdoor ring with a few tiny goats, maybe pygmy goats? I don't know, but they were so little. There was also a cow, a donkey, and I think an alpaca. They did let us inside to get close and touch those animals. The weather held up for the event, and it wasn't 100 degrees! The drive to this fair was a lot, though. Especially on the way out, with the start time requiring going through rush hour, and being on a weekday. It was over an hour drive for me, but the way back was so nice & quick, like 30-ish minutes, given that rush hour was over, whew! I'm appreciative of every Yelp event that I get to go to, and it was a good time overall. I am also an honest reviewer, which is what we're supposed to be as Elites! It's a cute little fair if you get the chance to go in the future.

There is an annual Cherry Blossom Festival. It would have been cool to have been able to time my visit for when it was happening, but that wasn't possible. I imagine the parking situation would be insane! The courtyard surroundings is nicely landscaped. Someone left a little treat for the wildlife ... I saw a squirrel enjoying some of it. There are two restaurants: JJ's Bistro and Sakura House Restaurant. Around the corner is the Pacific Mercantile Company which has almost every Asian grocery item you'd need and household or gift items! Just beyond the Pacific Mercantile Company is a Buddhist Temple. I just peered through the gate. There is metered street parking & I think there's a parking garage. Not sure if it's paid or free. I did end up in the area a couple times. I would not make it a point to specifically come here again although it was good to do so once.

With family in the area, I've been going to Old Town Arvada for as long as I can remember. It's…read morebeen the neighborhood for countless happy hours, dinners, get-togethers, brunches, farmers' markets visits and more! The little neighborhood is filled with brightly painted murals, lined with bars, restaurants and shops which create the cutest of vibes and environments! Sure, parking can be a bit tricky, but park on the outskirts and walk the streets or simply take the lightrail, as the train now pulls directly up to Old Town! With the influx of Christmas events, local shopping and delicious eats, I know I'll be back!

We picked a central area to park and made our way around the area with ease. Be careful to abide by the parking signage during your visit. Certain areas appear to be significantly more restrictive than others! 2) Why even deal with parking? Currently under testing, the G-line will feature an oh so convenient Olde Town Arvada commuter rail stop. 3) There's a little bit of everything! Restaurants? Yep! Breweries? You got it! Toy stores? Sure! Plus lots more to find and discover! 4) Sooo many events are held here! During my visit this past weekend my friends and I stumbled across the cutest farmers market! 5) Tons of great unique local businesses! We checked out The Cereal Box, New Image Brewing, The Bluegrass, and Denver Beer Co! Loved them all and there is even more on my list to see!! 6) Everyone was super friendly! 7) I totally dig the reclaimed spaces! Historic Olde Town Arvada def exudes that Colorado "vibe" we all seek! The tracks go alongside the river, so we saw plenty of ducks and geese on our ride. This trolley starts at the REI and stops at the aquarium, the children's museum, meow wolf, and during certain times of year the football stadium. I'd also recommend checking out the REI while you are in the area. That location I believe is the biggest in the country. P.S. Check with your local library for free tickets. That is where I got mine! A fun activity specifically for children.
