Amazing!! Beautiful cabin with cozy interior and amazing food! Chef was subbing as bartender for the night and so welcoming; great drinks and we enjoyed elk and red snapper and our friends enjoyed ribeye w mac n cheese and a few desserts. Best meal while in Highlands!

Evening was great. We went for my husbands birthday and we loved the food. We had the elk and the trout with a Cesar salad. Banana pudding jar for dessert. Yum! Perfect tasting dishes we will come back for sure. Service was excellent; we asked for a fireplace table and got our food quickly. Ambiance was quiet and relaxing.

Elk tenderloin. So tender and delicious!

We loved our log cabin meal! The building was originally constructed in 1930 by a local builder, and the inside screams historic while still tasteful and functional. We came in with our infant, and felt comfortable having her there since there were other kids at tables, and the other guests and servers were all kind to us, even when she got a bit fussy. The cocktails were expertly crafted in appropriate drinkware. I loved my Bees Knees, and my husband enjoyed his Kentucky Mule. For our meal, we split the elk tenderloin along with the mac n cheese. The elk was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and the white cheddar grits it came with gave it a homey feeling. This dish encapsulates the Southern & Appalachian inspirations of the restaurant. The elk tenderloin dish may be a bit pricey, but we found it was worth it for the quality and unique nature, and we both were full splitting that and the mac n cheese as a side. I've already recommended HSC to others who will be in the area, and I hope to return as well!

The place is very large inside. It's a log cabin that's been turned into a restaurant. What attracted our attention is that they serve elk. We started off with sharing the Mixed greens salad with candied pecans, goat cheese, cranberries and it claimed to have a blueberry vinaigrette. However the salad was quite dry. By the time the waitress checked on us, we had just about finished it. She then offered more dressing but it was too late. I got the elk tenderloin with cheese grits and asparagus. It was all very good. The grits were more lumpy than I expected but had good flavor. I got the elk cooked medium and it was cooked perfectly. The waitress told us the elk came from Wyoming. The asparagus was exactly how I like it; it was cooked past al dente. We also got a side of mac & cheese. It was a bit soupy but had very good flavor. My guess is white cheddar with some toasted bread crumbs on top. Although the elk was good, the rock star of the evening was my husband's pork chop with carrots, bacon, and thinly sliced apple. It was huge, thick and flavorful with amazing carrots ! Omg, I could have eaten an entire plate of just those carrots ! For dessert we shared a piece of the Chef's own recipe pecan cream cheese pie. It was indeed very good. They accidentally blackened the top of the pecans but otherwise very tasty. The waitress stated all desserts are made in house. It was difficult to select one. They all sounded so good ! Other options were peach cobbler with 2 scoops of ice cream and banana pudding (she said the pudding was more like custard). The main reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the VERY uncomfortable seating. There was a choice of small hard wood chairs or ladder back weaved chairs. I tried both and I hated both. When leaving, I noticed there were a few tables that had a one-side wooden bench seating. Try to get this if you can. I shifted uncomfortably thru the entire dinner, my foot fell asleep, and I was miserable. They definitely need to make some more comfortable seating available. This alone would prevent me returning even though the food was excellent.

The meals exceeded my expectations, every single item on the menu. It was incredible. Drinks: Kentucky mule and the bees knees 10/10 Appetizer: high country oysters and beef tartare Dinner: Elk tenderloin

My mom came to visit me in South Carolina and we took a day trip to Cashiers and the Highlands. The reviews and menu for this restaurant looked excellent so we decided to try. Immediately, we loved the treehouse type look of the restaurant. It felt comfortable and relaxing and we enjoyed our table by the fireplace and large windows. Teddie was our server and he was personable and made our meal very enjoyable. We started with the biscuits and they were perfect. We could have eaten a dozen. The slight saltiness on the biscuit plus sweetness from the honey butter was a delicious balance. My mom ordered a salad and also asked if she could get the kids pasta. They were fine with this. I ordered the hanger steak with chimichurri. I substituted the carrots for Mac and cheese. I do like my steak more medium to well done though I know this cut tends to be cooked more rare. So I was ok with it being a bit less tender because of the preparation I preferred. The flavor was spot on and both sides were delicious. Although we were fairly full, peach cobbler is my mom's favorite so we had to split one for dessert. Again, it was terrific. It had the right level of sweetness and the peaches were the right texture and ripeness. It did seem like there were too many people or tables for one server to handle about midway through our meal. We would have liked to have been checked on and had our dessert order taken a bit sooner and without needing to flag down Teddie. He was working really hard and moving nonstop so it definitely wasn't an oversight on his part. We have since recommended this restaurant to others and wished we were in the area longer because we would have come back for dinner again.

    Great dessert!

It's such a beautiful and peaceful space to dine, especially with the amazing Spring and Fall temps they get there. We were with a party of 6 (plus a baby), and walked up without a reservation a bit late in the evening. We figured we'd try it and see if we could get in if it wasn't too late, and luckily enough, the hostess was kind enough to make it happen for us! The menu actually has a lot of variety for a wine garden - drinks and food wise. I started with the French onion soup and it was delicious. The Caesar salad was also quite yummy, but the meatloaf was the showstopper of the night! I am still dreaming of it now, and wish I could replicate it myself because it was that good and memorable! For dessert, I ordered the affogato which is their house made vanilla bean ice cream with an espresso shot and it was the perfect ending to the night! Our server was so attentive and kind, and constantly checked in on us and cleared our plates since the tables are a bit on the smaller side. I had an excellent experience all around!

The restaurant is located on the main street that runs through the town making it easy to find. Be sure to make a reservation as it fills up quickly. The staff we encountered during both visits were friendly and professional. The food was exceptional each visit. The eggplant parmigiana starter was tender and so flavorful. Three of the four of us ordered it on the second visit as it was that good. The beef carpaccio and meatball starter were also enjoyed. For entrees we had the trout Frances, stuffed halibut special, the gnocchi special, the mushroom tortellini and the linguine pescatore. All dishes were delcious while the trout Frances, mushroom tortellini and linguine pescatore were our favorites. It is worth mentioning their gnocchi could not have been better prepared as it was like a fluffy pillow as gnocchi should be. Had it been paired with the truffle sauce from the mushroom tortellini then it would have been perfection. For dessert, we sampled several ice creams, sorbets, the tiramisu and the Blueberry Coconut Layered cake. The raspberry sorbet and cappuccino Oreo gelato were the fan favorites for the dessert course. Ristorante Paoletti receives our highest recommendation as it is on point with offering a positive atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food.

The wine list is incredibly vast. The sommelier was called in too soon, so I did not have much of a chance to look at the list. Again, feeling rushed into having them make the selection for me. The wine selection was good after all - the price not so good. We were sat in a table that was too close to the bar and the passing of staff and patrons. not very romantic.

Everything about the restaurant was so special, amazing location for a sunset dinner, perched high above the Blue Ridge Mountains - amazing views. The best thing is if you stay at the Skyline Lodge, it's just steps away from your room and that comes in super handy when it's brunch time! We were fortunate enough to enjoy these two meals; dinner & brunch with our kids (who are foodies too) and they are now huge fans of Oak Steakhouse. They said it was the best steak they ever had, you can't go wrong with the Filet! The menu is not huge but really has all of the dishes you would want for an amazing dinner. Plenty of options, even if you don't eat steak. Amazing sides to accompany each dish and you must start with the bread, which is made in-house. I went with a dish I have not tried before and it did not disappoint, Venison Wellington while my wife tried the trout. I will let the photos do the talking. They also pour an amazing espresso martini by the way and to finish you have to try the chocolate cake, trust me!
