Kyle, our server, and Joe, the general manager, went completely above and beyond!!!! We started with the Caesar salad -- super crisp lettuce, a generous portion perfect for sharing for two, and it came with a crunchy baguette topped with a smoked trout cream cheese-style spread. Such a unique and delicious touch! We also tried the trout fingers from the kids' menu since we'd only had trout once before, and they were good. For entrées, I had the barbecue lion's mane mushroom with slaw, potatoes, and asparagus and wow, don't let my picture fool you, it was absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the elk with grits, asparagus, and a rich demi-glace... and it was FANTASTIC. We almost never order dessert, but I'm so glad we did! The pecan pie (with a whipped cream cheese topping) was incredible -- not overly sweet like traditional versions, but perfectly layered and full of flavor. We loveddddd this place. I wasn't expecting to find elk on the menu, or have it as good as anywhere else I've had it! Welcome to the supper club. It blew us away and was a phenomenal choice for our family dinner-which they had set up for us at a long table by the fireplace of what was the original cabin. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with friends this evening at the HSC. It was our first time to eat here and the experience was great. Martha N provided outstanding service. She had a dry sense of humor and was so pleasant and kind. Definitely ask to sit in her area. The deviled eggs were incredible. We could have eaten a plate full. The chargrilled oysters tasted amazing. My wife said her fried chicken was some of the best she has ever eaten. The glazed carrots were so delicious. I had the trout and it was very good. We shared desserts as a table and enjoyed immensely the banana pudding, blackberry cobbler and the bourbon brownie. Both parties took some dessert back to our rooms at the Skyline Lodge. The atmosphere was wonderful, the food was delicious and the service was top notch. Highly recommend. read more

A cozy, elegant, homey space with beautifully plated dishes. Our group had three red meat dishes and a fish dish. All cooked to perfection with wonderful flavor, especially the ribeye special. We loved our log cabin meal! The building was originally constructed in 1930 by a local builder, and the inside screams historic while still tasteful and functional. We came in with our infant, and felt comfortable having her there since there were other kids at tables, and the other guests and servers were all kind to us, even when she got a bit fussy. The cocktails were expertly crafted in appropriate drinkware. I loved my Bees Knees, and my husband enjoyed his Kentucky Mule. For our meal, we split the elk tenderloin along with the mac n cheese. The elk was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and the white cheddar grits it came with gave it a homey feeling. This dish encapsulates the Southern & Appalachian inspirations of the restaurant. The elk tenderloin dish may be a bit pricey, but we found it was worth it for the quality and unique nature, and we both were full splitting that and the mac n cheese as a side. The place is very large inside. It's a log cabin that's been turned into a restaurant. What attracted our attention is that they serve elk. We started off with sharing the Mixed greens salad with candied pecans, goat cheese, cranberries and it claimed to have a blueberry vinaigrette. However the salad was quite dry. By the time the waitress checked on us, we had just about finished it. She then offered more dressing but it was too late. I got the elk tenderloin with cheese grits and asparagus. It was all very good. The grits were more lumpy than I expected but had good flavor. I got the elk cooked medium and it was cooked perfectly. The waitress told us the elk came from Wyoming. The asparagus was exactly how I like it; it was cooked past al dente. We also got a side of mac & cheese. It was a bit soupy but had very good flavor. My guess is white cheddar with some toasted bread crumbs on top. Although the elk was good, the rock star of the evening was my husband's pork chop with carrots, bacon, and thinly sliced apple. It was huge, thick and flavorful with amazing carrots ! Omg, I could have eaten an entire plate of just those carrots ! For dessert we shared a piece of the Chef's own recipe pecan cream cheese pie. It was indeed very good. They accidentally blackened the top of the pecans but otherwise very tasty. The waitress stated all desserts are made in house. It was difficult to select one. They all sounded so good ! Other options were peach cobbler with 2 scoops of ice cream and banana pudding (she said the pudding was more like custard). The main reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the VERY uncomfortable seating. There was a choice of small hard wood chairs or ladder back weaved chairs. I tried both and I hated both. When leaving, I noticed there were a few tables that had a one-side wooden bench seating. Try to get this if you can. I shifted uncomfortably thru the entire dinner, my foot fell asleep, and I was miserable. They definitely need to make some more comfortable seating available. This alone would prevent me returning even though the food was excellent. read more

Evening was great. We went for my husbands birthday and we loved the food. We had the elk and the trout with a Cesar salad. Banana pudding jar for dessert. Yum! 3rd trip. Food is good, particularly the appetizers. Service is friendly and polite but somewhat disjointed; i.e., need at least one more server. Wine list is decent but the prices are ridiculous. Wines are marked up 4x. $25 bottles of Turley Juvenile selling for $100, $16 bottles of Kermit Lynch Côtes du Rhône for $64, etc. etc. I understand it's a business and needs to turn a profit, but that shouldn't necessitate price gouging. Our table ordered a glass of malbec wine, the bacon washed old fashioned, and an apple cocktail. i can't remember the name of it, it's a non-alcoholic drink but i spiced it up with some gin. It was amazing. We enjoyed the charbroiled oysters (so soft and juicy), elk tenderloin (wonderfully tender), and the mushroom barbecue (the mushrooms were divine). Food and experience were incredible. We had the back private room which made for such an intimate environment with our friends. The biscuits and chargrilled oysters were excellent appetizers. My mom came to visit me in South Carolina and we took a day trip to Cashiers and the Highlands. The reviews and menu for this restaurant looked excellent so we decided to try. Immediately, we loved the treehouse type look of the restaurant. It felt comfortable and relaxing and we enjoyed our table by the fireplace and large windows. Teddie was our server and he was personable and made our meal very enjoyable. We started with the biscuits and they were perfect. We could have eaten a dozen. The slight saltiness on the biscuit plus sweetness from the honey butter was a delicious balance. My mom ordered a salad and also asked if she could get the kids pasta. They were fine with this. I ordered the hanger steak with chimichurri. I substituted the carrots for Mac and cheese. I do like my steak more medium to well done though I know this cut tends to be cooked more rare. So I was ok with it being a bit less tender because of the preparation I preferred. The flavor was spot on and both sides were delicious. Although we were fairly full, peach cobbler is my mom's favorite so we had to split one for dessert. Again, it was terrific. It had the right level of sweetness and the peaches were the right texture and ripeness. It did seem like there were too many people or tables for one server to handle about midway through our meal. We would have liked to have been checked on and had our dessert order taken a bit sooner and without needing to flag down Teddie. He was working really hard and moving nonstop so it definitely wasn't an oversight on his part. We have since recommended this restaurant to others and wished we were in the area longer because we would have come back for dinner again. read more

we made a reservation several weeks in advance for a first time visit to celebrate our anniversary. we arrived promptly and were seated however we were ignored by our server for close to 15 minutes. she made sure she went to other tables to take their dessert order, obviously they had their main course, but didn't even offer to take our drink order while we waited, which we would have. after being totally ignored we left and went to another place in town and had great service and meal. will never go back. the food at a restaurant is important, but service also should be. read more

This brand new restaurant, in the old Log Cabin, is incredible. My husband surprised me with Easter Brunch and everything we ordered was top notch. I highly recommend the Deviled Eggs with smoked roe, and the Biscuits and Ham (with pomento cheese and homemade pickles) for apps. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, the chef knows what he's doing. My husband ordered the lamb burger, and everyone around us was raving about it. Servers are attentive and well dressed. Everything served in a timely manner. Seating is inside,on a summer porch or outside on a deck.There's also casual seating in the garden area, as well as a fire pit,which would be great for drinks at night. The first thing you notice when entering HSC is the gorgeous old logs and timber that was used to construct the 1930 cabin. The second thing is the fabulous fireplace centered warming the waiting area. Ambiance: check. As for the food, the dishes we tried were excellent. The raw Washington oysters were accompanied with a delicious mignonette, and the crab stuffed deviled eggs with a touch of Benton's bacon disappeared from their dish within 60 seconds. The pork chop and fried chicken were quintessentially southern, and I have no doubt my grandmother would have approved. Food: check. Lastly, our server Teddy was attentive but not overbearing, and made sure our experience at HSC was one to remember. Service: check. HSC is a hiddent gem and well worth a visit. Top 3 restaurants I've ever been to by far for me. The salmon dish was amazing, and my boyfriend's pork chop looked lovely as well. They were super knowledgeable about GF options, and made sure everything was separately cooked & made note in our order. As a celiac this is definitely a confirmed GF safe spot. Main courses included eggs Benedict, shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles and steak & eggs. Shrimp & grits was the clear winner. Coffee was good. They didn't have sweet tea...
