    Chorizo Grit Bowl

The brunch this morning was very good. Rocky M did a great job serving our table. I had the chorizo grit bowl and my wife had the biscuit and gravy with a side of bacon. We shared a peach waffle. All of the food was delicious.

We live in Charleston so we are very familiar with the Oak Steakhouse that's located here but the one at the Skyline Lodge, really delivered!! Everything about the restaurant was so special, amazing location for a sunset dinner, perched high above the Blue Ridge Mountains - amazing views. The best thing is if you stay at the Skyline Lodge, it's just steps away from your room and that comes in super handy when it's brunch time! We were fortunate enough to enjoy these two meals; dinner & brunch with our kids (who are foodies too) and they are now huge fans of Oak Steakhouse. They said it was the best steak they ever had, you can't go wrong with the Filet! The menu is not huge but really has all of the dishes you would want for an amazing dinner. Plenty of options, even if you don't eat steak. Amazing sides to accompany each dish and you must start with the bread, which is made in-house. I went with a dish I have not tried before and it did not disappoint, Venison Wellington while my wife tried the trout. I will let the photos do the talking. They also pour an amazing espresso martini by the way and to finish you have to try the chocolate cake, trust me! We also want to give a shot out to all of the staff and servers; their attention to detail and overall service was outstanding! Seems to be the case at all Indigo Road establishments, they really know hospitality. We cannot recommend Oak Steakhouse enough, even if you're not staying there but in the Highlands of NC make sure you give them a visit.

My wife and I had an excellent meal in our first visit to Oak this holiday season. It's a modern restaurant with a subtle mid-century vibe that nods to the Skyline Lodge that it is incorporated into. Our server was very friendly and (unprompted) comped our bread service after a lengthy delay. Once received, the bread was amazing and went nicely with my lettuce wedge salad. The entrees were excellent as well, with my wife loving her risotto and my steak frites being top notch with fork-tender beef and amazing truffle fries. The portions are generous so to-go bags are a common sight. Oak is not inexpensive, but clearly the value is there if you are looking for a proper steakhouse experience near Highlands.

What a great lodge and restaurant tucked away in the NC mountains. The first time DH and I had dinner here, it was a foggy, drizzly evening on Nov so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the view, but the service and food was amazing, TY Trevor! We recently went back for brunch (sorry no pics), another drizzly day, but got a peak at the view and the food and service was again amazing. Whether you go for dinner or brunch I highly recommend a reservation, which can be made online. We will be back in the summer, hopefully to enjoy that amazing view!

Fantastic meal. Top shelf service, (thank you Rob) and top shelf food. The sides are family style. Steaks had a perfect char and cooked to order perfectly. Our first trip was a five star so we decided to go back and make sure it was just as good. Our guest had the fish, we had the steak. And we had to save room for the dessert prepared by a legit pastry chef!

Skyline Lodge's second floor is home to Oak Steakhouse, a contemporary steakhouse featuring local produce and ingredients. The first and only steakhouse in Highlands, Oak partners with area purveyors and neighboring farms to bring the flavors of Appalachia right to the table. Snag a seat at the bar and prepare to get mesmerized by the panoramic views of the blue ridge mountains. *| venison Wellington - Duxelle, Prosciutto, Puff Pastry, Bordelaise *| steak tartare - Giardiniera, Dijonnaise, Pecorino, Crostinis *| house smash burger - American Cheese, Pickle, Charred Onion Aioli, Brioche Bun, Truffle Fries *| dark chocolate soufflé - Red Currant Crème Anglaise

Came back this year with friends and had an AMAZING meal! I felt like it was even better than last year. Our steaks were perfect. They had one slice of their amazing gluten free chocolate cake left it was unreal. 10/10 experience. Service was excellent. Espresso martini was the best of my life. Eat here. Just do it.

8oz filet with assortment of family style sides including brussel sprouts, truffle fries, Mac and cheese and mushrooms. Perfection

Everything! Delicious wine, meal and dessert! We will definitely be back! Can't say enough about this place

We had the Ribeye, drunken mushrooms and Brussels sprouts. It was all amazing and our waiter Rob was excellent!

It's such a beautiful and peaceful space to dine, especially with the amazing Spring and Fall temps they get there. We were with a party of 6 (plus a baby), and walked up without a reservation a bit late in the evening. We figured we'd try it and see if we could get in if it wasn't too late, and luckily enough, the hostess was kind enough to make it happen for us! The menu actually has a lot of variety for a wine garden - drinks and food wise. I started with the French onion soup and it was delicious. The Caesar salad was also quite yummy, but the meatloaf was the showstopper of the night! I am still dreaming of it now, and wish I could replicate it myself because it was that good and memorable! For dessert, I ordered the affogato which is their house made vanilla bean ice cream with an espresso shot and it was the perfect ending to the night! Our server was so attentive and kind, and constantly checked in on us and cleared our plates since the tables are a bit on the smaller side. I had an excellent experience all around!

Very Disappointed -- Would Never Go Back…read more We had eaten at Primary once while visiting the Highlands a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, that experience was disappointing from the beginning. The bartenders were rude and unhelpful, and the food and service were two stars at best. The one reason we decided to give Primary another chance was the Sunday night prime rib, which happens to be one of my favorite meals. I completely understand requiring a credit card to hold a reservation. I was a chef for 10 years, so I understand the business side of reservations and no-shows. Unfortunately, our French Bulldog became seriously ill around 3:30 AM Sunday morning, and we felt we needed to rush him to BluePearl in Atlanta. Because of the emergency, we obviously could not make our dinner reservation. I tried calling Primary, but no one answered. The recorded message instructed me to send a message through the OpenTable application, which I did. I explained exactly what had happened and asked if they would please refund the reservation charge given the circumstances. I also emailed the owner personally and explained the situation. His response was simply no because we did not show up. I reminded him that I had followed the restaurant's own instructions and contacted them through OpenTable as soon as I could. He still refused. What bothered me most wasn't the money. It was the complete lack of professionalism, customer service, and empathy. Emergencies happen. I would have expected a restaurant to understand that a sick family pet requiring emergency veterinary care is very different from simply deciding not to show up. After our first disappointing experience, we gave Primary another chance because of the prime rib. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled guaranteed that we will never return. If I could give the owner negative one star, I would. Don't waste your money or your time supporting a business that treats customers this way.

Ended up using the back of the booth for our water bottle and condiments and still struggled for space. Buffalo wings were good but not exactly Buffalo. No buttery spicy hot sauce. It was more peppery than buffalo. Wings were cooked perfectly though Reuben is excellent as are the jalapeno Mac bites. Cheese dip was also excellent but we (and the table next to us) had to ask for more chips. Not portioned terribly well. Beer options were very slim (2 on tap from what it gathered). I'm sure there were plenty of bottled options but draft was disappointing. We ordered the ale but they tapped out and brought us brown ale. At 5pm...only a brown and stout on tap. Overall, it was a pretty middling experience but the food was good and they offer a military appreciation discount.
