After conquering our first 14er the decision to eat here was a solid choice. Having entered the restaurant beyond ready to feast, we had some stellar choices on the menu. One of which was the Buffalo Burger accompanied by a perfectly deep-fried side of fries. No questions were asked about cooking times for the burgers but thankfully mine was prepared at a preferred medium-well. We were greeted promptly by staff and assisted in good time. Well, we have mountain property nearby and spend a lot of time in this area. I'll start by saying this 1 star review is based solely on the cleanliness of the place. It was filthy. We were the first people in on that morning. Floors were covered in crumbs, dirt, and who knows what else from the night before. Flys were ridiculous. I killed at least 10 at my table in the first 30 second. Table was sticky, and the Bathroom, That's quite the smell. The good side...service was great. Food was good although, I was surprised by reviews talking about portions being big. The biscuits were smaller than grocery store biscuits, the ham slice was 1/2 piece of a deli slice. Maybe 1/8" thick. 2 eggs are 2 eggs. The star was the hash browns. Nice portion, cooked perfectly on the flat top. My buddy loved the chicken fried steak. 2 breakfasts with coffee and tip - $50. I personally can't stand filthy dirty and flies. That just shows a complete lack of pride in your business and is plain lazy. read more

This is a fabulous restaurant. All their food is handmade on site, and it was a place I'd like to drive to just for the food, not as we're passing through town to go elsewhere. Their green chili on our burritos had a little bit of heat to it but not so much that it overpowered the fabulous flavor. They also had a mini-burrito, more to my hunger legal, and it was identical to hubby's. Guacamole was fresh and outstanding. They have a variety of other foods, hamburgers included, and some vegetarian options. They are connected inside with a bar. The place is not real eye-catching from the outside, but go in! I stopped in on the way back to Jefferson from Eleven Mile. Good food with quick and friendly service. They were catering to us travelers as well as a lot of locals. They've got a pretty broad menu - everything from home cooked Mexican food to traditional bar fare. I went with the cheeseburger and side salad - both were good. Great little cafe & saloon! Rustic western decor, down-home food options, coupled w your basic western-style full bar. (Western-style means plenty of basic whiskeys & bourbons, but no fancy mixins!) Order at any table, and pay the friendly waittress when you finish. Cafe staff can bring bar drinks to your table, or you can drink in the saloon-room (connected to dining room). This is a perfect example of a small town, family owned, ranch land bar/restaurant. Building should be listed as historic, with classic rough hardwood floors, locals at the bar and wood ceiling. There is Buffalo on the menu, locally sourced for the burgers. Well seasoned and prepared. My SO loved the patty melt and MIL had the fish and chips. These were obviously done in house and served correctly with malt vinegar on the side. Prices are good, there's a better selection of beer on draft than you would imagine and a pool table in very good repair. Ask for the stories behind the dollars on the ceiling and make sure to ask for Jimmy behind the bar. read more

Great place but you would not know it from the outside. The inside isn't anything to write home about, but it is authentic. Restroom sign didn't say anything about handwashing, but it had a stern warning to cowboys "Knock the dust off your clothes with your hat before returning to work." The food was amazing. They have tamales on the menu, but they were sold out both times we stopped. I had a smothered burrito the first time that was plenty large, plenty tasty and a great value. The next time I ordered a bowl of green chili with tortillas. My desire was because of the taste of the chili on the burrito. It did not disappoint. I will make this a regular stop on my way to Monarch from now on. read more

A jewel in the middle of ranch land. We were driving 24 in the evening heading to Springs. We were hungry and I pulled up Yelp and found the Highline. We chose to eat Mexican. All was freshly made in house. The Chili Rellenos were incredible. Next time we'll try the burgers. read more

This looks a little run down from the outside...and even from the inside... but don't let that fool you. Parking is along the side of the restaurant. There are at least 2 doors that you can enter through. There is a bar and plenty of tables. We were encouraged to sit wherever. We chose a table by the window. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. She took our order quickly and the food came out quickly. I had the hamburger and french fries. The hamburger was fairly good but the fries were not to my liking. The prices were a little high (~25 for two meals). read more

I took the scenic drive from Pueblo to Denver airport. I stopped in at this place for a late lunch. A buffalo burger on rye with onions and a malt set me back about $15. Not quite cheap but I think things get pricier up in the mountains. The waitresses were friendly and clad in stained tee-shirts. Mountain people. The burger was delicious and filling, I really liked the fries. The plate was greasy all over. Later in the evening as I waited for my pick-up from San Francisco airport, the buffalo got its revenge. I can not recall any previous bathroom experience that was as violent. I suspect my colon was unprepared for the Rocky Mountain onions, but this really just deepens my memory of the place. read more

Highline is placed right next to the main road going through Hartsel, Central Colorado. I wasn't expecting much, but boy was I wrong. This place is what every Colorado business should strive to be. I walked in with my family, a party of seven, and was greeted like I was a returning friend. The waitress and I had nice banter back and forth. They made sure our coffee mugs were always full, and made sure everyone had ice and lemon in our water. I was also "that" customer that asked to alter every little thing on my buffalo burger to the point it wasn't even recognizable. They hit it out of the ball park.  If you do decide to go here, the nachos are a must. The chips were authentic tortilla. I had the bacon buffalo with pepper jack and homemade guacamole. Ate it, good, great. I love local places like this that have withstood the test of time, and I'm sure this place will continue to be here for a long time. read more

On our way to Colorado Springs, and definitely hungry, we decided to give the Highline Cafe a try. It's definitely not the cleanest or fanciest building I've ever been in but the burgers were on point and the staff was extremely friendly. The only reason I'm not giving the review 5 stars is COVID must not exist here because the only people who were wearing masks were the out of town customers; the staff and locals weren't wearing masks. When it's a Colorado mandate, I would hope businesses would take it seriously. read more

My husband and I just bought a few acres in the area so, we've been driving around exploring - we've been here twice and will continue to make special trips to eat here! First time had smothered Tamales and Bacon Bleu Cheese Burger ...the green chili was pretty spectacular. Second visit Fish n chips and another Bleu Cheese Burger, this time ordered with onion rings ...I think they were substituted for fries at no extra charge and the serving was generous ...again, fantastic on all counts. We've eaten outside each time we've been there - they are (of course) dog friendly! so I can't comment on the interior. Staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming - you don't feel like an outsider. First time here for breakfast today and it was so. good. Rustic look and feel - comforting breakfast offerings served up in very generous portions by some extremely friendly waitstaff! The breakfast burrito with green chili was delicious and totally smothered. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast - the steak itself was nothing too special (tasty enough, but tasted like a pre-made frozen steak - not bad, just not like housemade), but it was covered in a delicious sausage country gravy which I couldn't get enough of! Lots of great peppery flavor. The ham and eggs breakfast came with a huge thick slab of ham and was cooked up perfectly. A worthy breakfast stop - do yourself a favor and pull over here! read more

We visited when we rented a cabin in the area. Our family prefers "non chain" restaurants, so this way right up our alley. It was Sunday night, so it was pretty crowded, but the food was delicious. It was literally someone's grandma cooking, and you could hear her singing 90's country as she cooked, so you know it was going to be good! My husband had a buffalo burger, I had the fish and chips, my daughter had the chicken tenders and a shake. We will definitely be back when we are in the area! read more

Wouldn't even give it one star. Drunk waitress stumbled over after we had to wait for her to do shots at the bar then halfway through our meal she caused a huge scene in front of my young daughter because she mistook someone in our group for someone we don't even know. Thank goodness there was a gas station down the road to grab our daughter a snack and try and calm her down after that huge embarrassment. Thanks for the small town generosity.
