Roast beef & Swiss in sourdough

Ok, it's a sandwich shop....an expensive sandwich shop.....but a really great sandwich shop! Friendly greeting! Great sourdough bread with lots of meat! Both sandwiches were very filling. The chicken salad today was cilantro and lime based, big chunks of chicken, a little too much celery for my taste, lettuce and tomato. All in an all a solid place!

We stopped in Salida on our way to Crested Butte. Perfect lunch stop during a summer rain shower! The sandwiches are outstanding. Quality ingredients and great flavors. We had a Red Headed Ruben (hot), Rob's Roast Beef (cold), and a Hot Rob (hot). We also tried a homemade chocolate cookie and apricot bar. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Clean. Great service.

Amazing sandwiches, my wife and I were passing through and looking for a quick sandwich. This place did not disappoint.

"The Biker and the Baker" I believe is the official name of the bakery portion... There are a lot of bicycle themed things in the area

An excellent little place in a town I have never heard of before! Everyone was so incredibly nice and the sandwiches had great names and also tasted good. I was even tempted to get a T-shirt. There is a bakery case from which we bought several brownies that looked like they will take us about a year to eat. Can't recommend this place enough! I'd love to be able to come back through sometime and try something else.

First time in Salida and Was not expecting a large sandwich shop. The sandwiches were so good and large portions. There were lots of different options. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted.

This was our first stop in Salida and it did not disappoint! We got The Parthenon Wrap, The #23 Sandwich, The Lone Star Sandwich, The Notorious, and Kids Peanut Butter and Jelly. Everything was delicious and it came out way faster than I expected! The sandwiches were a bit pricey, however, for being in a mountain town and their quality, we would definitely go back! We also got the grasshopper brownie and the blueberry almond sweet treat from their dessert counter and both were so good!

So delicious! We highly recommend stoping here! Our order: Last Crusader - Turkey, bacon, avocado, cheese, and chipotle mayo, onions and lettuce. I customized to remove tomatoes. Served on delicious toasted sourdough. Hillbilly - roast beef, cheese, horseradish mustard on a baguette. Plus so many delicious baked goods (not pictured)

Nestled among the peaks of the Sawatch Range, where tumbleweeds might theoretically roll if they weren't caught in the spokes of a passing bicycle, sits an establishment of peculiar perfection: The Biker & The Baker. My compass has unerringly pointed to their door every single time I visit Salida over the past five years. It is a tradition forged in sugar and chain grease, where the rugged American West meets the precision of French pastry. Pairing high-desert riding with artisanal baking seems like a recipe for a pile-up, but the execution here is a sweet ride. You will find aerodynamic cyclists sitting elbow-to-elbow with flannel-draped modern prospectors, united by a singular quest for butter. The Biker handles the gears, the Baker handles the tiers. They aren't just coasting on charm; they are pedaling toward culinary triumph, baking up a storm that rivals the monsoons over the Arkansas River. The confections are miniature monuments to indulgence. I have routinely panned for gold in this valley, but the true motherlode is their lemon tart--a symmetrical marvel of citrus striking like a high-noon sun. Their charcuterie boards are arranged with the geometric exactitude of a surveyor mapping a railroad. Whether you are gearing up to summit Mount Shavano or recovering from a grueling promenade, this sanctuary provides the requisite fuel. It is the exceedingly charming destination itself.
