David was very quick and responsive to my situation. My car had been stuck in a parking lot all day because little to my knowledge the people that run the tow trucks just weren't doing there jobs. They were saying they couldn't tow my car so I was stuck in the parking lot. David came as quickly as he could, and he not only got my car in a position for it to be towed he also showed me how to do it myself in case I ever run into a similar situation again. David could have left after that but he actually went above and beyond what I had called him for, and stayed with me until my car was towed so that the people running the tow trucks wouldn't give me the run around like the previous 3 people that had said they couldn't tow my car. It took something this serious for me to feel the need to share share my story regarding David, the mechanic, and his business, Highmile Auto Repair. About a year and a half ago, I had a problem with my Scion TC. It would not start so I had called David to come out and repair it. He inspected it and claimed that I needed to replace a sensor costing about $100. He replaced the sensor successfully (to my knowledge), and then proceeds to state that the car has another issue. After "working" on my car for a few hours, he finally decides to check the fuse box and then replaces it, and my car starts problem solved. I was overcharged for a part that didn't need to be replaced initially, but I disregarded that because I was more concerned with my car starting. Fast forward to June 2014. I have another car, which is a '93 Acura Integra. Its problem is that it wouldn't start. I yelped a mobile mechanic and reached out to the mechanic. He stated that he can swing by around 2:30 to take a look at it. When the mechanic shows up, it was David again. However, my issue was that it was late in the day, and I needed my car to get worked on that day urgently because I needed the car for work the next day. He comes out to inspect it, and his original diagnosis was that I needed a new starter. He takes the starter to get it rebuilt and then comes back to replace it. After replacing it, the car does not start again. He began to blame other issues, such as there may be a bad battery, (he tested it earlier during his diagnosis and said it was very healthy), bad battery connections, motor locking up, or me having a bad motor (which is untrue because I drove the car earlier that morning). In a bit of frustration and anger as he was giving me so many other excuses as to why my car wasn't running, I began to argue with him stating that this is the second time he has come to fix my car, and he has misdiagnosed the problem. This escalates into a huge argument back and forthcoming a good thirty minutes. Finally, he continues to work on my car after I drove to the store to purchase new battery connections. Shortly after, I returned with them, and he connected them and attempted to start the car. However, it didn't start again so he claimed the rebuild of the starter was bad. He said he would come back the next day while I was at work, get the starter rebuild again, replace it, and then return the keys later on that night. I got a text the next day stating that the car started so I gave him a call to return my keys. The car started and I paid him, and we went off to our separate ways. I headed to the gas station afterwards and the car seemed normal. As I left the gas station, my radio began to cut out and doesn't come back on. Then I approached a stop sign and my brakes began to give out as well. Also, when I parked after this short drive, I noticed that my oil pressure gauge is flickering back and forth rapidly. NONE of these problems were present before he fixed my car. I was in utter disbelief when I discovered these problems. It is beyond belief that he would risk his reputability as a mechanic just to "get back" at me since we had an argument the previous day. I advise you: PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS MECHANIC AS HE WILL ALTER YOUR CAR IN WAYS UNFAVORABLE TO YOU. I understand arguments happen but this does not give him the right to intentionally mess with my car. I hope my story gives you an impactful insight if you consider using him as your mechanic given that he is extremely unprofessional as described in this review. Pls text me yr make and model of ur car, ur full name and address, miles on the car and license plate number so that I can have ur invoice complete and ready for us in morn. thx. the diagnostic fee is 50$ cash or $55 credit 5$ is for my fee to run card. Me: Most any one processor is is 3.5%. Why 10%? Him: thats my fee. if u do cash there is no fee. Me. I'm gonna pass. thanks anyway. Him: pass if u like. if the credit card fee is all ur stuck on then I know u will be a huge problem customer and I will end up suing u in small claims court. I spoke to David via phone 1st , he was right up front and honest with me regarding his fees and what he did for customers. I would HIGHLY recommend David as he was on time , did the work spot on on both my cars and cleaned up the few drops of oil on the street in front of my house. I will be recommending Highmile Mobile Auto Repair to all my friends who hate going to garages and being ripped off. David had the newest code checking hardware and software and was able to diagnose my cars lights in minutes and fixed and reset everything. My cars are both running super smoothly today and I am VERY satisfied with David Newtons work !!! I believe I have found my new mechanic in Sacramento. My Tacoma recently started misfiring pretty badly. I can usually accomplish some minor repairs myself, but my mechanic skills and knowledge are limited and I do not have much free time to work to figure out certain car issues these days. So, after finding that my regular mechanic was unavailable, I went to Yelp. Highmile was well reviewed and caught my eye immediately. Most of the reviews were from Southern California, but I found from his website link that Dave has recently located to Sacramento. Dave's method of setting up an appointment are a bit different than I'm accustomed to, as relates to him being a one man show as I understand it, but everything seemed to check out and make sense to me. Upon initial phone discussion, Dave explained clearly what he does, how he charges, how, after the initial inspection, he could explain what would need to be done in case I wanted to do the work myself, etc. A-ok. The next morning, Dave came by my place in a nice work vehicle. Having a mechanic come to me was a new one for me, but it turned out to be quite convenient. I would normally be a bit hesitant to have a stranger with power tools stop by, but again, everything checked out (thank you Yelp! Along with his linked website, which provides his license number where he provides a separate link for license verification , etc.). Dave asked some standard questions about what I had experienced with the vehicle, began looking things over, etc. He began performing his inspection, while clearly explaining each step that he was taking. The issue was not something that could be pinpointed easily with a scan tool, but working through a logical progression he figured out the issue relatively quickly. The way he described things made it all pretty clear to understand. Dave explained in detail what needed to be done, what he expected to most likely see when he started opening some things up, and he gave me an estimate for him to do the work. I am familiar enough with car repair to know that it would have cost me significantly more to take it to any of the shops nearby. Very reasonable. I had to go back to work and Dave texted me when he finished. He agreed to wait for me so that we could finalize things, but it took me a lot longer to get free from work and get home than I had previously suggested to him that it might take. I might have expected him to be a bit perturbed, but if he was he didn't show it. He went over everything he did in detail. Started her up and she is now running like new! My experience with Dave was great and I will almost certainly be seeking his services the next time I have an issue with one of my vehicles. Dave seemed to me to be just a genuinely good guy, knowledgeable and fair. Pretty much along the lines of what I read in his other reviews. Glad he is in Sac, hope he sticks around. read more

David knows his stuff. While he works alone out of his garage, he has all the high tech diagnostic tools to read codes and test sensors. My wife's volvo had the check engine light on. He quickly read the codes and tested all the supposed failures. He determined that nothing was wrong and that I may just need to get the software updated. Car is running fine now. David explained everything he was doing. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because he doesn't have a normal mechanic's garage. However, I will still go to him first whenever the check engine light comes on again. read more

David is a true professional! I brought my Land Rover in with a check engine light. I usually go to a high end shop, but being that I just paid over $1300 on a brake job, I wasn't trying to go there again. I looked up mechanics on yelp, and based on reviews I decided to contact High Mile. He was quick to respond, and very thorough on letting me me know of company policies with pricing. (This way there is no room for confusion) We set up a time, and I came to his home. He was very personable and right away pointed me towards his wall with licensing certificates. It was very reassuring. He hooked up my truck to a really advanced machine. He showed me the codes displayed on the screen and let me know what each one was. I ended up having 3 misfires indicating I needed new ignition coils. We decided together to do some preventative maintenance as well as the repair. The price was right, and fair. I left my vehicle with him while he himself went and got parts and did repair. There was great communication from beginning to end. He took pictures of his work, and gives you an actual invoice. I called David on a Sunday. I wasn't sure if I was having trouble with my battery, alternator or starter - just that my 2009 Toyota Yaris was regularly having some trouble starting. He was on a job already and said he'd be happy to help when he was done around 5:30 (on a Sunday!), but also advised that I could take it to the nearest Autozone for free testing, and if it was the battery I could get it replaced at cost of the battery. What other mechanic would ever give that kind of advice and pass up a sale? I was planning on going through the trouble of getting it towed to a place I'm sure I'll get ripped off, but thought I'd give Highmile a shot. Totally glad I did. David was able to find time to stop by and see if he can isolate the problem on the same day. Granted I called him late, towards end of the day, but he was able to stop by and help me out.
