The food is good but the service is mediocre. I recommend the Thai Chicken Stir Fry. It is pretty good but very spicy. Without the spice it is nothing special. The staff was a bit rude. Two people in my party got the same dish. One looked amazing and the other was scrawny by comparison. We asked if they could please make the dish the same. They brought it back and tried to defend the scrawny dish that this is how it comes. We have been coming for years and have never been treated with such disrespect. Honestly, just a very poor dining experience. Ordered martinis that took way too long to arrive. Mine was sweet for whatever reason so I sent it back to get it fixed. In terms of food, the crispy rice was okay but was $22+ for 2 pieces and fairly bland. The Caesar salad was probably the best part, the croutons were phenomenal but the salad was pretty average. Lastly, was the rigatoni which was $36 and nearly inedible. We shared it and couldn't even get through half of it. Interior atmosphere was very much suit for "Hamptons" vibe. Little rustic and bay inspired. The food was more of Asian fusion and wasn't too clear on what the restaurant wanted to stand for. My favorite dish was the Korean Chicken buns which was part of their appetizer menu and it came with 2 buns reminding of Korean fried chicken. The big downside was the price. It was way overpriced for 2 buns. The Linguine with clams was a solid dish. Pretty good but the portion was little on the smaller side for the price. Spit Roasted Organic Chicken was the least favorite from the dishes we ordered. It was not very tasty and visually did not look great either. read more

I ordered take out from here for dinner. It was ready in 30 mins (I placed the order at 6:45pm) which is pretty fast compared to other restaurants in the area. I tried the Caesar salad which was good but not to die for. They did do a great job of packaging it up - they packaged the dressing and the croutons separately, which was nice so that nothing got soggy. Another person in my party had the grilled cheese and said that it good but overly oily. As of right now, I probably would not order take out from here again. They did have some dishes that have potential, but the prices are outrageous for a dinner that you eat at home. I'd consider trying this restaurant again once they open for in house dining and the cost of the food is also going towards the overall dining experience. read more

Always one of my favorite restaurants in the Hamptons, but not easy to get into unless you time when their reservations open and have your social Secretary immediately hit Resy. Or you take your chances with "Notify Me" and get lucky, like we did. please note, if they offer "Bar Seating" DO NOT, as we did, assume it will be a table in the bar area, it will be a stool at the bar. They were very nice about the mixup, tried to find us a table, but just couldn't seem to do it. meanwhile at least 2 two top tables were open from the time we entered until after we left. whatever. That said, for 2 people our seats at the bar were fine. The bartender was great. Friendly, intimately familiar with the menu, and despite being busy making drinks for the entire restaurant, he was always available if we needed anything. We split the crispy duck salad appetizer, which was excellent, and plenty for two to share. Essentially it was a duck leg on crispy diced greens, and i highly recommend trying it. I had the Thai chicken stir fry, which was also delicious. Minced pieces of chicken and crisply wok fried veggies with spicy Thai seasoning. I loved it, but if you don't like spicy food i would try something else. My wife had the orecchiette special with lobster, which was also somewhat spicy, and also tasty and beautifully prepared. I ordered the ceviche from the menu. It only had tomatoes in a dressing with herbs (cilantro). No trace of fish or seafood. This is misleading if not fraud. The papaya salad was tasteless. When we mentioned it to the server, he just said sorry. Finally the restaurant is very noisy because of acoustics and this human noise is unnecessarily amplified by music. read more

We have always enjoyed Highway for it's food and great service. Their manager is probably the best we've seen in the Hamptons, he's beyond outstanding. Our review is specific to their regular Thursday night Asian menu. Sadly they do not deliver and maintain their regular quality when offering Asian dishes. The food was terribly salty, poorly seasoned and lacked any sign of creativity. The sushi was inferior. They do have two great dishes, Thai chicken stir fry and pork buns, on their regular menu that for some crazy reason were not included on Asian night. The classic Asian dishes you'd find at local takeout places would cost significantly less and taste much much better. Clearly, they took on more than they are capable of...either get a new Asian chef or just go with what you know best. read more

Came on a Thursday night in August after making a last minute reservation. Dinner was at about 9, after a long drive out on the LIE we were ready for some food. Decor- looks kind of like a dive from the outside, but inside sleek and open, if not a bit dark and loud. We were seated in the back at a large table Meant for six right by the bar. Started off with lobster toast and drinks. Drinks were excellent, Lobster toast was almost there. The lobster was sweet and light. All I wanted was some crunch from the bread to give the dish some contrasting texture. Nope. Got squishy bread, so was kind of just chewy. Easily could have been fixed by simply toasting the bread they used or using a crustier bread. Taste was on point tho. Entrees were the squid ink pasta with shellfish and the special of the day, pan roasted Halibut. We also ordered a side of broccoli rabe and French fries.... because every good meal deserves a fry. Squid ink pasta was cooked perfectly. Very hard to get the shrimp to not be over cooked but this was perfect. Flavor was very good, not fantastic, but the execution was perfect. The halibut stole the show. While the piece of fish was rather small for $45, the smell that came off that plate made our mouths water. And that crust, perfectly seared. Try as I may, I can never get a crust like that and believe me, i tried many times this summer to do it. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Why this is not on their regular menu I have no idea, but it should be. When we were driving over we were praying it was available since we did not see it on the menu but the photos of it on their site were unbelievable. French fries, eh. Broccoli rabe seemed bland at first when eaten with the mains, but upon second tasting was quite good with a subtle hint of heat. For dessert we had peach cobbler. The best part was the home made whipped topping. Peaches were hard and crunchy, not cooked enough. Wanted to like it but just not well done. Came in last night and had a delicious meal. Ambiance: elegant decor although a tad too dark. We had some very large comfy booth style seats (felt like a couch), there is also some outdoor seating available. When they started playing Mobb Deep and Biggie I knew I was "home" lol. Service - not bad, could have been better as sometimes our server went missing for awhile. I sat once with an empty cocktail glass sitting at the edge of my table, easily visible for miles and wasn't able to order another one for quite some time which is a big pet peeve of mine. Cocktail: had the spicy mezcal drink. Was delicious enough to warrant a second one. Food: Lobster toast - good start to the meal. Good amount of lobster, wish the toast had a crunch to it though. Squid ink pasta - great. Perfectly cooked shrimp in it (you tend to find it overcooked in medleys) and the sauce was quite good. Halibut - it's funny, when I looked at the menu online earlier I saw a picture of a seared fish and was really hoping they'd have that for the special as it wasn't listed on the actual menu and lo n behold it was!! I'm jealous as I cook halibut from time to time but this sear and flavor was heaven. When the 2 dishes came out, the aroma from this dish was instantaneously noticeable and highly appealing. Tasted as good as it smelled. The accoutrements were good but not even close to the same level as the fish as I barely remember what they even were. Seriously though, fantastic halibut and you should get it. Broccoli rabe - initially didn't care for this. Was quite bland and so uninteresting compared to the entrees. I ended up eating this at the end of the meal separate from the food and it actually was decent, just had muted flavors that don't stand up well next to the entrees. Needed a little more salt and could def use more garlic or fried garlic chips. Fries - I ordered a side of fries as well from the burger cuz french fries are awesome (usually)- was really not a fan. Too dense and overly salty. Waste of 10 bucks and hardly touched em. Dessert - peach crisp - not bad. Some peaches weren't cooked long enough. The crumble on top was the best part and the whipped cream provided was high quality, very fluffy/ light. Ordered a side of ice cream to go with of course. Would skip personally. Was a little pricey but definitely a meal I'd repeat as our entrees were fantastic. read more

I was out to dinner with my wife and kids, 2 of whom are 21 or older, and all were refused service by the waitress and then even the district manager. He was disrespectful and insulted my children in front of me, claiming they were underage as my wife and I sat there defending them. To have the audacity to label two 60 year old customers who have been patrons of your restaurant for over 25 years liars is shocking. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever and do not recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy a family dinner or have decent customer service. read more

My wife and I went to Highway last weekend. I'm sure it is possible to have a reasonably priced meal and a reasonably-priced bottle of wine, but I couldn't figure out how to accomplish that feat. The food was "not bad" and the service was a little distracted and inattentive at times. Our entrees of eggplant parm and pasta were not bad, but overpriced. Several minutes after the entrees arrived, I was told that the wine I selected was not available. Yes, there was another bottle that was similar and they'd give me the lower price. By the time that replacement bottle arrived, our food was getting cold. If I had to go back, I'd probably order the chicken, which looked wonderful, making sure that my drink order was in hand. read more

We were treated very rudely here. In a crowd of extremely successful Wall Street guys and celebrities, our table of three women were the poor stepchild. We were told the minute we sat down that we had to vacate our table at 8;45 pm (we had a 6:45 reservation). We were not walk ins, nor did we make our reservation last minute. By 8:15, our server had come over to our table multiple times to clear our food. One of the people in our party was still eating, and the server attempted to remove our food multiple times. Then two different (male) managers came to our table to tell us we needed to leave and they would get us dessert at the desolate outdoor area. To be clear, we ordered full meals, multiple cocktails and were planning to order coffee and dessert, but the check was thrown down at us and we were told to pay and leave because others were waiting for the table. As three 50+ year old women, we were left to feel totally disregarded and mistreated. I have eaten at this restaurant over a dozen time with my husband and have never been treated this way. So, I have to believe that the managers were fully sexist and felt that they could mistreat a table of women, while handling the Wall Street guys tables with kid gloves. Very disappointing and I won't be back and will be letting my friends know as well. read more

A huffy creep of a hostess (that probably leads a very miserable life) stuck us in the back corner by the kitchen because we had a baby. We walked in, explained the baby was sleeping in his car seat and asked to move to an open booth in a more lively area. She begrudgingly walked us over and explained how the baby would be blocking traffic in his high chair. I explained he was sleeping in his car seat (again) and there was no need for a high chair, but she directed one sent over anyway. We told the waiter we didn't need the high chair when it came and the creep ran over to him to figure out why and complain. The bitching continued as she went into the kitchen and complained more to her entourage, failing to realize the swinging door gave us a perfect view in. We grabbed our coats and bolted. I never write yelp reviews, but this restaurant deserves to do well. I'm a hamptons resident and have pretty picky taste. I have been to highway diner 5 or 6 times, and have never had a bad meal. From the french toast for breakfast to the tuna sandwich on sourdough for lunch, to the lobster ravioli for dinner. The meals are consistantly good, very well priced, and the service and setting is friendly and relaxed. Very nice mixed drinks too. I've never needed reservations even in the peak of summer. What a relief! We need more restaurants like this out here. Its a little off the beaten path, and you need to know to look for it on montauk hwy or else you zoom right by it. But I hope more people make an effort to check it out. It deserves to survive and thrive. read more

Yelp, you should really create a new entry for the re-branded Highway Restaurant and Bar - it's light years better than the old Highway Diner (which I thought was fine, but nothing special). We had dinner there last night and it was outstanding. My fiance had the salmon, and I had the eggplant parmagiana - both delicious! The highlight of the meal (which our server suggested) was the mint, quinoa and pea side dish. I'd have likely not ordered it absent the recommendation, but it was absolutely outstanding -- much heartier and more flavorful than I could have imagined. They've also redone the space and it is much cozier and more inviting than before. We'll definitely be coming back. read more

We were in town visiting and the yelp reviews of restaurants in area during the off season were not drawing us in. We drove by the Highway and my husband pointed it out. There were a decent number of diners, a nice looking bar with a football and soccer game playing on separate tvs above the bar. For lack of other options we turned around and pulled in. The restaurant is no longer a pop up sushi bar. They have a rustic, log cabin barn feel but updated, trendy and cozy with a touch of their diner roots. We chose to sit at the bar to catch the soccer game. I was pleasantly surprised at the menu offerings. I work in the natural foods industry and live the lifestyle so I am always happy to find something that makes me happy and my husband who is a burger guy. This particular evening they had a prix fixe menu. I had the kale salad with radish and carrots and the salmon. My husband had the chicken soup and the pasta bolognese. A beverage of choice (beer, wine, liquor) and a dessert were also included. We had an amazing experience. The kale salad is large and I took half home. The salmon was cooked perfectly medium. My husband's chicken. Soup was like our grandmothers had made it and his pasta was perfect. All food was delicious. Additionally, the staff was amazing. Tim the bartender was also our server and was the perfect everything. Great server, great bartender and an overall interesting person to talk to. We also had Brendan working the bar and again a very interesting and engaging guy. Tip notch service from both. We do not make it to the Hamptons often but I travel a lot for work and The Highway has renewed my faith in dining out. World Class service, amazing food and great ambiance. We had a perfect night! About 8 tables total with one server trying to hold it down. She was serving, bussing and making her own drinks (as we know brunch is a very beverage intensive meal). Too much for one person to do while trying to give good service. The host was helping a little, but not enough. We both ordered omelets which were forgettable. They were overcooked, flat, uninspired. Toast was cold, home fries greasy and cold. The chef had several opportunities to come out and watch the Giants game in the bar TV... While the waitress scrambled around him. The food was not made with love. Just so so diner food at high diner prices. I won't be back. Should have gone where I usually go- Poxybogue right down the road. Please patron it so they stay open in the off-season as well as the summer season. The salads are wonderful and bountiful with plenty of interesting fresh ingredients and flavors. Once you get inside it is a beautiful, chic little restaurant, with a great menu, wonderful service, and the food is great! The AC was not working but staff insisted it was working. If it was working it would not have been 80 degrees. If you having an issue, own it, apologize and offer some sort of concession. We tolerated but managements way of dealing with the situation was terrible Also service on drinks was terrible, even when it was a single drink ordered and the drink was a simple Avion on the rocks, took 10 minutes. Putting those serious issues aside, food was generally good with exception of the meatballs and eggplant parm, which were both were awesome.
