We went here for the first time, and unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. First of all, parking was a nightmare, and it took us quite a while to find a spot. We were a group of four, but there were no tables available when we arrived. We were initially told to sit at the bar, then another person came and told us that a table was available, only to come back and say there was no table after all. In the end, they separated us into two groups and had us sit at different sections of the bar. I ordered the chicken sandwich and asked for coleslaw on the side, but I received fries instead. I didn't bother sending it back and just ate the meal. The sandwich was decent, but it wasn't anything special. The chips and spinach dip, however, were very good. The waiter was nice and seemed to be working hard the entire time. Overall, I don't think I'll be coming back to this restaurant. read more

A classy, cozy inviting high end tavern with subdued lighting and a romantic setting. People will flock to great food and service - the East Hampton Grill has both. We started with two unusual and inexpensive appetizers- the heavenly biscuits (2 per order) for $5 served warm with Hampton's organic honey. These biscuits were delicious and I could have eaten a basket full of them. With a cold beer they had just the right amount of savory and honey sweetness. The deviled eggs (3 per order) with special relish for $12 were a perfect starter. Not to heavy - melt in your mouth. Onto the entrees: my triple cut brioche roll fried lobster po boy sandwich $48 was toasted with butter, tomato and lettuce and crispy tender lightly fried lobster pieces. With a Nice sandwich remoulade. A bit expensive, but it was a large sandwich full of lobster meat. A little hard to eat because of the height of the sandwich. My wife tasted my sandwich and thought the lobster should remain cooked but not breaded and fried. To each their own. The Nashville style hot chicken sandwich came on the same three cut brioche bread with the shiny top, perfectly toasted ($36). Here again - delicious tender chicken and a large meaty sandwich. Beer and wine service was spot on with a leisurely time pace between appetizer and entree. No room for the two offered desserts- but the key lime pie looked scrumptious. read more

A few years ago I found this restaurant while shopping across the street at the north main IGA. The building is handsome and I investigated further. I read the rules at the time understood what they were trying to do. The service is always good, the food also good. But like any high end Restaurants they have their good and bad days. But by and large they do a good job. There was always something about this restaurant that I could not put my finger on. After a recent visit, and again everything was good it dawned on me. The problem is they make me feel like they are doing me a favor by letting me dine there. The restaurant business is firstly an exercise in Grace. Your host should be warm and welcoming, maybe even recognize you as a regular. It should be a pretty stress free experience. This all goes along with the exclusivity and high prices. I don't like being made to feel like they are doing me a favor. I patronize a very wide selection of restaurants both in town and here in East Hampton. The successful ones I patronize are as I said welcoming and make me feel at home. Unfortunately even though I would like to say this restaurant achieves this it does not. read more

My friends and I, who've been coming to the Hamptons for decades and eating at the East Hampton Grill or at the Palm during every visit, had an unpleasant experience here last Sunday. The hostess kicked me out, claiming that my leather sandals (which I often wear to business and casual events) were not permitted. She scolded me that I should have read the website. When I returned (I had to drive 20 minutes to and from our rental to get ... sneakers!), I showed her what is in fact on the website: "Casual Footwear: Rubber, plastic, or foam-style flip-flops and slides are banned." To her credit, she acknowledged that I was not wearing any of those and apologized. But then her boss came by the table and basically tried to say that I was still wrong. When I looked her in the eye and said "You all made the mistake," she would not acknowledge that. They did comp my appetizer - a very well prepared calamari - but all told it was an embarrassing, even humiliating episode. And perplexing, to put it mildly: at the table next to ours - where we were dressed in business casual, just as management prefers - were sloppy guys in t-shirts, shorts, and sneakers. Shannon McSweeney, the current GM at East Hampton Grill is a pugnacious and unprofessional manager and should be released from her position immediately. There is much to be desired for her demeanor, lack of hospitality, decision making and treatment of women clients in particular. In short, I took a call at the bar to discuss a recent emergency. I quietly discussed with a friend this recent occurrence. The man sitting next to me quickly exchanged seats with his date/wife. I asked his companion if I disturbed him. He then interjected as a matter of fact you did. He then proceeded to verbally assault me and call me literally crazy. The GM came over and asked if everything was alright. The belligerent man started to verbally denigrate me. Ms. McSweeney told me I was not allowed on my phone ( at this point I was no longer speaking to my friend who is a lawyer and she insisted on listening ) . Ms. McSweeney offered a table to the couple and comped their dinner. The gentleman told me to fuck off and walked away. Two people witnessed this and were beside themselves. Ms. McSweeney fell into the role of defending the abusive male. She told me to put away my phone and that cell phones are not allowed at the bar. Instead of being a diplomat, she quickly sided with the abuser and humiliated me. When I told her I would report this unprofessional behavior, she asked me to leave. Please note that this type of behavior is unacceptable and Ms. McSweeney should be immediately released from her role. Shannon McSweeney's millennial outlook disregards the integrity, class and professionalism East Hampton Grill represents. I am not one to talk on the phone at the bar however circumstances were exceptional. Also, I was much quieter than this couple that somehow felt entitled. Meanwhile, there was a woman at the other end of the bar on her phone with no comment nor complaint. We as a family and with friends have been loyal clients at EH Hampton Grill since it opened. I ate there last week and ordered the delicious French Dip. It came with a mayonnaise/butter spread which was not on the menu nor did the server mention it. Usually French Dips come with the au jus and maybe horseradish sauce. They graciously replaced my sandwich for me. I contacted customer service of Hillstone who owns all the restaurants and the reply was: "Our menu descriptions are limited and do not include all ingredients by design due to space and to protect our recipes. That said, we are always happy to omit the mayonnaise on the French Dip upon request and are delighted you enjoyed the sandwich after it was remade." How would one know to ask to omit the mayo if it's not listed. I think that is a very lame excuse. Who puts mayo/butter on their French Dip? I also had to ask for anchovies on the Ceasar Salad; it's not listed how do you know what's on the food items? It was exactly what you'd hope for on a summer evening in the Hamptons. The food? Outstanding. Every dish was prepared with care, flavor, and finesse. And a special shout-out to our server, Andy, who was superb. He was attentive without being intrusive, and with an eye for the little details that elevate a meal into an experience. A very classy establishment, and I'm glad we chose this place for dinner the other day when we were out in the Hamptons, cause it really is an upscale and timeless spot. We came in for dinner around 6:30, this was on a Saturday night, and I don't think we had reservations, but as luck would have it we got a nice table across from the bar which is a section for walk ins I suppose, so that was nice. The server was super energetic, and also had so much energy she kinda gave me a little anxiety at times. Nice girl, but I don't like when servers put on the overly happy and exuberant fake personality when they talk to guests, I kind of got that from her. Anyway, the menu in my opinion is kind of minimal, there aren't many choices to go through what you want, but the one thing that did jump out to me was the Cesar with Oysters, so I dived into that. We ordered two martinis, and the ones we got were pretty bad. So bad in fact that we sent them back cause they were basically water. My girlfriend asked for a remake and I asked for Whiskey straight up, at least that can't be messed up. The second martini she said was much better, and my whiskey was, just whiskey, so that was good. The Cesar itself, and I've seen a trend here, is like another fine dining place we've been too recently, and idk why Chefs are doing this now, it was just a log of Romaine. Not cut up, just a solid log that you got to cut yourself. I hate this trend. Or style. If it's a thing now, I don't like it. Cut up the salad. The taste though was delicious, the oysters ontop were an incredible add on, and the tuna tartare she got was delicious also. Very expensive, it's the Hamptons so I wouldn't expect otherwise. As we were leaving there was a really pissed off family talking sternly and priviledgly at one of the hostesses, and I stayed out of that, but I would expect these Hamptonites to be wildly rude at times when they don't get what they want. The kitchen was a big disappointment tonight on the meats. I was really looking forward to their 22oz Prime Rib special. I prefaced that it should be medium rare and hopefully hot. The first time it came out STONE COLD, so I sent it back. The second time it comes out on a warmer plate about 5 minutes later, still stone cold. The third time it came out overcooked and hot. . So then I switched to the Ribeye which they said was something they do very well. So I cut into it and it was still blue. The second time it came out medium rare and was good. The service tonight was good and the staff is friendly. They did their very best to try and make amends. One of the best and busiest restaurants you will ever go to. Hillstone Group which owns and operates this location is my go to restaurant group when I am in NYC and East Hampton. Food, service, and ambiance are outstanding. Because the restaurant is THAT good and THAT busy it's priced accordingly. Plan in advance if you want to go. Don't try to show up and hope for a table. I'm certain that many people are frustrated by how busy the restaurant is, but you can't blame them for their success, we should all be so lucky. read more

Reception staff are untrained, disorganized purveyors of falsehoods and rude conduct. Watch out for Jessica at the desk. We called for reservations and were bluntly advised they were "not taking reservations". On arrival, we were given a 30 minute wait time for "a table" that we SPECIFICALLY requested in lieu of the bar seating. After a 40 minute wait, Jessica brought us to bar seating. We complained and were told that " walk ins" needed to take what was presented and that those with reservations had priority. We advised we were told reservations were not available. Jessica responde that reservations were "absolutely available. We were sat at a high top table that was yet to be cleaned. This was the worse Hillstone/Houston's experience. The infamous spinach dip wasn't creamy or hot to taste, the biscuits were dry and incredibly salty. The service, where typically every waiter is your waiter was not the experience here. We barely saw our waiter after he took our beverage order and couldn't gather the attention of another one. After enjoying EHG for over a decade, especially for festive occasions with 6-8 friends, I have recently discovered they only reserve & serve parties of 2, and on a slow night 3-4. A staggeringly unconscionable policy. And I've been told by a friend that they refuse seating for dinner at the bar for less than 2. have you ever heard anything more ridiculous, or insulting to customers? Since I discovered this fairly recent policy, I've been told by 3 different friends that their request for a table for 6 had been refused. so, in a matter of 2 weeks, EHG has turned away 18 paying customers! This is obviously some misguided money grab, as they believe tables of 2 turnover more quickly and keep traffic moving. I venture to say could be illegal discrimination, in addition to be reputation-wrecking. EHG is dead to me & should be to anyone expecting hospitality in a hospitality venue. read more

Excellent! I can easily say this was our best meal while visiting the Hamptons area. The house salad was delicious-enjoyed every bite! And the chicken sandwich was so big we easily shared this meal. I wish I knew her name. The environment was very pleasant in every aspect. No decaffeinated coffee. Bummer. Or decaf cappuccino . Some of us have cardiac issues and some of us just want to sleep. Impeccable service. Beautiful interior with a fireplace. Appetizers we enjoyed were the Deviled eggs, Caesar Salad, rosemary biscuits. Perhaps I'm a Hamptons newbie and missed out on an amazing lobster roll but what I ordered was just alright, so perhaps I'll come back and revise upwards once I try other things. Now that I think about it, some of it is certainly my fault for getting perhaps the most boring thing on the menu (next to the salmon) - the Caesar salad. I love my Caesar salads. I'm well aware of how beige that makes me but like the Philadelphia roll and green curry, it's the one thing I look for. It's delicious with a bit of green for fiber and the dressing is the one cream-based condiment that doesn't make me gag (just typing "cottage cheese" and "sour cream" makes me shudder). That said, it's always a bit of a let-down when a Caesar salad comes to me only in one half of a giant Romaine brain instead of all in chunks. I know, I'm lazy. But anyway, that's how EHG serves it and it is what it is. But there was way too much dressing (to the point that I was eating dressing with a side of lettuce) and the $10 extra rock shrimp were coated in an overly oily batter. It was really just alright and not worth $24. My friend's biscuit was amazing though. Fluffy, burning to the touch, would have been even more delicious with some honey. That said, for someone who hasn't sat inside a restaurant for the better part of half a year, I will say the layout made me feel very comfortable in this time of COVID. Though no one was taking advantage of the sprinkling of outdoor seating, indoor tables were spaced far apart and everyone had on masks. read more

Finally a spot with good food. We've struggled finding decent food with nice staff. We started our meal with the heavenly (read f*caking phenomenal) biscuits and artichoke hearts. The two of us split the rotisserie chicken with kale and it was scrumptious, more then enough for the two of us. And we added a side of the spinach which tasted just as good the next day. It was such an amazing meal. The only downside was the people next to us talking about how they're annoyed they have to be politically correct now (read: kind, empathetic, and respectful). This is a solid choice for the hamptons. The service was excellent - for example, I ordered a dirty martini, and half way through the server brought me a new chilled martini glass - no one has ever done that for me before - well done. As for the food, it was all good, we ordered the biscuits (delicious), deviled eggs (very good), tuna tartare (not the best I've had but still enjoyed it), Caesar salad (enjoyed this), and steak. Such rude hostess staff. After explaining why i canceled reservation outside of their acceptable time frame (someone was sick), i asked Chloe to waive the $25 cancellation fee. She wouldn't do it. When i asked to please have manager contact me, she said in an extremely sarcastic tone, "sure...good luck with that!" And hung up. Very rude. One of the most memorable meals I've ever had. My girlfriend and I celebrated our 1-year anniversary here last night and it couldn't have been better. Our waiter Rob was professional and kind. He made sure to check in on us and give us time between ordering which we really appreciated. Every item we ordered was delicious. We had the artichoke special, biscuits, prime rib, and crab cakes. The portion sizes are massive, so the prices really aren't outrageous in the scheme of things. The biscuits at $1 a piece is humble. Being a resident of New Orleans for four years and having had my fair share of cheap and tasty biscuits, this was quite exciting. They were GREAT.
