Had fixed rate gas plan with them until last Sep. Since natural gas price has tanked by over 1/3…read moresince then, I stayed with them on monthly rate plan, hoping to ride the rate down. However, contrary to their marketing material indicating the monthly plan will float with the market, they charged me a 0.9c per THRM rate ever since, which is almost double the rate my incumbent utility firm (Elisabethtown Gas) charges. It also illogically stayed this high from Oct through Feb. I protested by writing to the NJ BPU, and called Gateway and asked to be switched back to Elisabethtown Gas. Surprise surprise, it took till late Feb to have me switched, and I was charged the high rate during the same time. Also, they gave me bullshit but could not convince me that a 30% drop in gas supply price could not help lower my rate at all. A few tips: 1. Dont trust their marketing about variable rate plan being market price driven. It is not, and they will rip you off. 2. Start the switching process 3 months before the fixed plan expires, it takes that long! 3. Time the expiration of the fixed plan in spring or fall, when usage is low, just in case you got 'stuck" with the floating plan for longer than you think.

Greetings, If Gateway Energy Company calls or comes to your…read morehome offering discount rates for gas and electric, run fast and run hard. I live in NJ, one of the states Gateway sells in. They give you a discounted percentage off of your bills, a teaser rate that's not much of a tease. The discount is low, 1 or 2 percent. That's 1 or 2 dollars per 100 dollars you spend. The amount you'll save is marginal at best. To make up for the 'teaser', this company has charged me a higher price than what my existing/old provider/utility would have had I stayed with them. The higher rate negates the teaser intro rate savings, and can happen in as little as a month. If I saved 5 dollars per month (high estimate) from their teaser rate, that's 60 dollars over the course of a year. The higher regular rate consumed the discount I got from them more than once. This should be illegal. I don't know why it isn't. I called them to cancel. Their person told me I had to speak with my utility companies first. I called them, and they said they didn't need to talk to me for me to dump Gateway. I called Gateway back and informed them I wanted to cancel them (again) and that I had already talked to my utility companies. Their person told me I was being charged 0.99 cents per therm for my gas. If I would stay, he said they'd sell it to me for 0.74 cents per therm. I don't know the quantity of a therm, but I must have bought a lot of them in my prior month. I told their person if they were interested in my business, they should have given me the 0.74 cents from the start. I cancelled. Much to my dismay, it takes 2 to 3 months for Gateway to get out of my utilities. I'm going to write my utilities commission in my state to lodge a complaint. Really, this should be illegal. So if you have a company you've done business with and are happy, the grass may not be greener on the other side of the fence. It wasn't in my experience.

The rep falsely claimed that my delivery rates were too high. The rep falsely claimed that my bill would go down significantly, but looking at hundreds of other complaints the opposite is true. The rep falsely claimed that this conversation was needed for anyone using over 1,000 kWh. The rep called the company and instructed me to say "Yes" to every question. This included questions asking that the rep had left the area and that I was not being coached on the responses. Minutes later, another two reps came from the same company.

I don't normally write reviews…read morelike this but I am hopeful the company takes heed to it and I can warn unsuspecting people from signing on with them. In my building a couple of times a month these people come around trying to peddle their service. It comes off as fishy and dishonest. Last night in particular was even more brazen. The guy only identified himself as "Mr. Hill" but wouldn't say his first name or where from and as I usually do now, without opening the door I told them I'm not interested in whatever he was peddling. He then told me sarcastically "OK! Enjoy your higher rates!" Nice. That's a great way to convince me to consider your service that I already have negative opinions about. There are several of these companies in NJ/NY, it just happens to be that PSE&G and Con-ed is top dog and probably for good reason. These other companies such as Alpha here is one of them that runs this crummy tactic of showing up unannounced to your home or apartment (they ring random buzzers to the building until someone naively lets them in). They'll identify themselves in a variety of ways then tell you how they can lower G&E bill, they just need to see it. They'll often be very persistent, especially if you show a hint of interest. I've read a couple of success stories using these other companies, but the vast majority are horror stories of their bill being tripled, not being able to speak to any reliable reps, being unable to get out of the service or the service just not being good. Ripoffreport.com and the BBB have tons of complaints about these companies, Alpha included. If any of this sounds familiar and someone shows up to your home/apartment. Just say no!

Over the years, they have handled everything from routine repairs to unexpected plumbing emergencies, and every single time they have been reliable, knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely reassuring. Plumbing problems can quickly turn into stressful nightmares. A leak, clogged line, broken fixture, or unexpected issue in the house can make you feel like everything is going wrong at once. What I appreciate most is that he and his team bring a calm, confident attitude to every job. They listen, explain what is happening in plain language, and make you feel that the problem is manageable. By the time they are done assessing the situation, that initial panic turns into the affirmation that everything will be fine. The quality of their work is consistently excellent. They do things correctly, pay attention to details, and never take shortcuts. You can tell that he takes great pride in his work and that his entire team shares the same high standards. They work well together, are organized, courteous, and clearly experienced. It is rare to find a company where everyone who comes into your home is so professional and capable. They are also respectful of your home, which should never be overlooked. They arrive prepared, work neatly, and always clean up after themselves when the job is complete. You are not left with a mess to deal with after an already stressful situation. That level of care says a lot about the kind of people they are and the kind of business they run. It is rare to find a plumber and a team you can depend on for 20 years. They have earned my trust through consistently excellent work, honesty, reliability, and the peace of mind they provide. If you are looking for skilled plumbers who treat customers and their homes with respect, I would recommend them without hesitation. These guys are awesome!
