Best Falafel this side of Jerusalem. The Falafel is has a thin crispy crust and moist tender center. It tastes fresh and not over-fried so you can enjoy the delicate flavor. The Pita is thin and does not overpower the meal. Fantastic and great owner.

    The great falafel sandwich

I am so happy we were at the farmer's market at the right time. It was very cold out so as we were walking back to our car when we saw Hilana's Falafel sign: "Jerusalem Style Falafel Sandwiches". We HAD to stop and get some. The aroma that came out of those falafels just as they were getting fried filled up the space. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I've had; and what makes it so special are the special spice blend Hilana's uses, and the perfectly crunch exterior with the warm mushy interior The owner is incredibly sweet and generous. We will be regular customers!

Got Hilana's falafel at the Mosaic farmer's market.

Totally mediocre falafel, long line, rude hipster taking order. Definitely would not come again.

They make the best falafel in this entire region! I bring my hiking group here several times a month and I highly recommend their falafels

Excellent authentic Palestinian falafel. Crisp, fresh veggies and good sauce. Bread is minimal so the ingredients shine.

This location was much better and their staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a large location and who wouldn't want to grab a bite here and then find a seat at the beautiful waterfront. I ordered the falafel bowl with a side of hummus. Let's just say that for $5 that bowl was extremely generous in quantity and the fresh quality of each item was AMAZING! I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl. The side of hummus was sinfully good! Something I wouldn't mind ordering again to enjoy with their delicious pita chips Overall, I don't think I'll be visiting any other location but this one because they were fantastic!

If there are a few people they can manage, but if several groups come in, despite having about four staff they turn out sandwiches once every few minutes. It took over 15 minutes for me to get a simple falafel sandwich. They don't have a system to tag and manage orders with the numbers and they're not clearly calling out numbers so you can miss it. As I waited for my sandwich a guy wrapped another sandwich then left it on the counter touching a dirty wadded up napkin--yuck! Seating is all I raise, a few standing tables and a few tables with seats. Beverages like a small can of san pellegrino were about $4 so that offsets the inexpensive falafel. There's definitely better falafel in southeast.

The shop has a couple of tables inside and there's a terrace right outside with tables, as well as picnic tables further back. I parked across the street, but there may be more parking in the lot next to the restaurant (didn't check myself). I do vegan Mondays, and was able to order a pita with falafel with several veggie toppings and sauces. It was DELICIOUS and filling. They also have lots of drink options, including my favorite flavor of Spindrift. EDIT: I misunderstood the hours! I work nearby so I plan to be back very soon!

They trumpet the fact they fry in avocado oil, and they make a distinctive flat patty. I got a combo with fries and a drink. The toppings I selected; sumac onions, pickled carrots, and several others, were a bit soggy and didn't mix in quite a swell as I'd hoped. The fries were very fried, and the thin cut falafel was interesting but didn't persuade me to give up the usual ball shape. I wasn't sold that it was the best in the area, and with the place only open for lunch there weren't a ton of opportunities to try it on my schedule, but it is a credible entry into the Bethesda lunch scene.

I suspect they do this routinely, with enough orders this money adds up. I have never, not once, received a sandwich from this company, ordered either in-person or on-line, in which they have added the extra hummus for which I paid. It's really weird and again it smacks of theft. In the past I have ordered from the Potomac Ave store and they, too, have skipped the hummus on the sandwich. I also requested an order of hummus and pita. The pita is stale. And No, I'm not merely frustrated - it is actually stale. The hummus is cool, yet it runs like water. wt heck, seriously. The sandwich itself was meek and tired looking compared to the sandwich I had at Mamouns in NYC over the weekend. What a waste of money this place is.

The service was SUPER fast--perfect for a busy lunch/dinner rush-- and the price was very reasonable. The falafel itself was crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, and everything tasted fresh. If you are looking for a quick, tasty, HEALTHY, and budget-friendly meal with a mission, Falafel is absolutely worth stopping by. :)

I'll say the nice thing first, though, which is that they have a nice water dispenser with little cups between the register (where you order) and the food display (where you pick out your fixings and receive your order). So you can have a sip of water while you're waiting the two or three minutes it takes to get your food. I had the "schnitzel," which turned out to be just chunks of breaded/fried chicken breast. Real schnitzel (which this is NOT) is flattened and tenderized by pounding it thin and flat. These were just big, tough chunks, which of course have to be a little overcooked to be cooked through to the center. So that was, to this schnitzel devotee, a disappointment. I guess if you know you're just getting chicken "tenders," it might seem better. The laffa flatbread it was wrapped in had a leathery texture that I did not enjoy, and did not finish. The various fixings I tried--vegetable salads and dips--were good, though. So it was not a complete fail. But for the price there are a lot of places--even some on the very same block--that make a far better meal, and offer a real dining experience to boot. For the full experience, I ate in. And really, the place is a dump. The tabletop was sticky; I had to put down napkins to keep my elbows clean. The sound of a fan dominated the space. They don't seem to have changed the furniture since the Astor days (the service counter is the same, too), though it seems dirtier and more dilapidated and less decorated than it was then. The self-busing stand sort of makes the point that it's really not trying to be more than a takeout joint. At this price point, I expect more. It really made me miss Astor.
