Needed a quick bite in the area and came here. Located in a bustling area with plenty to see and do. Small shop with indoor and outdoor seating. Quick service and okay food. I asked the cashier I'll have the most popular, best item and also asked which meat is better and more flavorful. Per their recommendation, I got the Beef Döner Sandwich. The meat was dry and lacked seasoning. I wasn't impressed by the toppings and it had very little sauce and average bread you could get at a store. Their fries were also generic, lacking flavor, and subpar. It did the job since I needed food in my system, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. There are better places in the DMV area for this or similar types of food. read more

Let's be clear about a few things first. This place is TINY and needs cleaning. The spoon and fork are so oily, it slides on the hand. I DO NOT recommend you to dine in. The kitchen seemed clean though. Why am I giving it a 4? Because of the food, price and location. I don't think you can find anything like this in this district. This is more like a Grab-and-Go type of restaurant. The food is delish. We had doner over rice. We're staying at Ritz and you can imagine the traffic just to get food. Friendly service right away -- staff was welcoming and helpful, which always counts. The place itself is small, maybe around 6 tables, but cozy and casual. Good spot if you're nearby and want something quick. Food was decent, but I'll be honest -- not amazing, especially considering the high ratings. The meat was a bit dry, and the bread came out cold and not toasted, which really makes a difference for a doner or gyro. That said, flavors were okay, sauces were generous, and portions were solid. I think expectations played a role here -- I've had some incredible doner in Germany near train stations, so that sets the bar pretty high. Overall, not bad, not great. Capital Doner is a simple carryout joint selling doner kebabs. Friendly staff and very efficient. A simple little takeout spot with a few empty tables. But sadly as much as I wanted to like it, the diner was disappointing. The meat was dry and bland, and the sauce was lacking in flavor. Legit waited for 45 minutes for a wrap. This place is so slow and just ridiculous how long it takes them to even take an order. Then for them to make it is even worse. It quite take simple logic to procedural adjustments to make this flow faster. Only vibe here if you're willing to wait almost an hour for something that takes 30 servings to make. Great food - highly affordable for the DC area! You can smell the food before you get in. The Ayran yogurt drink deal is definitely interesting - it tastes like a salty watered down yogurt, which for some may be a little sour. Each option is customizable with lettuce, tomatos, onions, pickled cabbage, pepperocini, and sauces like garlic mayo, tahini, and a spicy sauce. But as always with places like this, isn't more better? Adding everything just created a flavor storm for me - not to mention the beef is highly seasoned and just plain yummy. The fries are the ones you think of later on - crunchy but thick enough to have a soft interior. Shoutout to the staff as well - kind, friendly, and asked everyone how their food was. The best if it's kind. Everything about the beef donner pita was delicious. This was my last stop in Dc and my only regret was not getting another to bring on the plane home. I'm not sure why yelp says it's closed on Mondays, but I'm glad I stopped by anyway. Can't say much else other than go try this, it's great. read more

Honestly one of the better wraps I've had in the area. Capital Doner has definitely saved my butt a couple late nights in Dupont. It's definitely a little on the expensive side for me, but all the ingredients have tasted fresh and I appreciate the custom options for the wraps, something I've missed from places like Amsterdam. They got both beef and chicken, and personally I used to prefer the chicken. Unfortunately, I will say I did have a freak accident with one order hurting my tooth biting on what I think is chicken bone, since it was connected to some meat. To date the beef has never hurt me, so maybe I'll switch over to that. That being said, I don't really ever have much exposure to Turkish food so I'm glad this is so close to me. Gotta try a wrap/plate and baklava if you're nearby! read more

I can only suspect that the good reviews for this restaurant are from relatives, investors and people they have paid. I will start this review with my conclusion - I do not recommend this restaurant. Slow. Dirty. Lack of customer service. At best mediocre food. The dining room is not up to modern standards. The weather was warm but they kept the door open so you know there were LOTS and LOTS of flies and mosquitoes. We opted to eat outside where, at least, the lights were darker and it attracted fewer bugs. The plate and utensils were greasy when I got them. The napkins were like tissues. I ordered the Chicken Doner Plate with Rice only there was NO RICE. When I asked about the rice, I was told they were out. When I asked why they did not tell me that when I ordered, they said they gave me extra chicken. Smart Ass. I don't think so. There was not enough chicken for one person. And the chicken is really lacking any real flavor anyway. I might have given an extra star if the service was at least okay. But the staff - such as they are - were not friendly, not helpful and not even communicative. Bottom line - I do NOT recommend Capital Doner at the corner of 21st and P Streets in Dupont. There is simply no reason to waste your money here. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the many other restaurants all within walking distance! OMG - I just looked at my receipt closely and I saw that they added a service charge because I paid with a credit card. They did not warn me, there was no written notice, nothing. Just a service charge. I am lowering my rating to one star! read more

I always pass by this place because my pharmacy is right across the street from it but I never had time to come in until today. I had the chicken wrap combo and the wrap was delicious, but I was a bit disappointed in the fries because most of them were too tiny. It's not a major complaint but I wad expecting larger fries to match my combo. My server was nice and apologized about it. That's why I refuse to give them less than 5 stars I'm sure this won't be an issue for next time. There's really not much place to dine-in if you're trying to dine and go - I recommend only using the dining area if you're solo, a couple, or part of a small group (at MOST maybe - a hard maybe - on 4 people) and only if you want to use the bar. One couple tried to squeeze in a baby stroller into the bar/dining area. Its really not suitable for things like suitcases or strollers so if you're in that camp maybe try some other spots because that also made a tiny space all the more difficult to navigate. Also, if you have a mobility device, this might not be the best spot for you either. I've never used their restrooms before so can't comment on that one. I still will say it is good for when you want to grab and go - so if you're in that category, and you like moderately priced sandwiches (for this part of town) this might work for you.
