I hired Paul to do a kitchen remodel for my 130 sq ft kitchen including electrical, cabinets, tile floor, recessed lights, countertop, and backsplash. After giving him my budget, he suggested ikea cabinets, the layout which he planned out along with my input. At no time did I feel pressured with doing custom cabinets, which he agreed was not really needed in my square kitchen space. He took me to All Natural Stone to look at countertop, tile, and backsplash. The people at that shop were all very helpful. He coordinated the delivery and installation with subcontractors. Throughout the entire process he kept me updated with progress, along with photos for the entire week that I was out of the country. The construction took about 4~5 weeks. Overall I was pretty happy with how it turned out. One complaint I have is with the subcontractors who installed the tile and countertops. They left trash including bits of glass (from cutting the backsplash tiles) in front of my house, including on the lawn. I asked them to clean this up when they came by to collect the trash, but they did not. read more

They did a nice job in which all of the cabinets are mounted tightly; all the drawers and doors fit squarely and close perfectly; and everything is nice and level. Paul's skills go far beyond IKEA cabinets, so if you're looking to do a full remodel, I suggest you check with him. Paul was considerably faster and a tad bit cheaper than the official IKEA installation vendor. I would definitely seek Paul out if you're doing what I did. Paul just remodeled our master and guest baths. We are very happy with the results. As with any construction project there were a few ups and downs along the way but one of the reasons we chose Paul (having worked with him before) is that he always takes your call, returns a text, or comes back promptly to sort out any issues. All with a good attitude. That is pretty priceless to me as I have had experiences where the contractor tries to make you feel bad for insisting on top quality work. Although the project took a bit longer than we had hoped both baths came out well and the master in particular is everything we hoped for. I love it. There were, inevitably, a couple of minor issues which although a little frustrating at the time were resolved to our satisfaction. As others have commented, his crew (especially the demo crew and the plaster guys) are very clean and tidy and the whole team were pleasant people to have in the house which as I work at home quite a lot was appreciated. His tile/ stone guy, Yovani, does very good quality work. We ended up purchasing stone counter tops with integral sinks rather than fabricating a slab but he fabricated a new laundry sink top which is far too beautiful to be hidden in my laundry! I was referred to Hill 16, Paul, by one of the owners at St. Stephen's Green. I was in there having a beer with a colleague and noticed all the new tables and floors and was impressed with the quality. I felt compelled to write this review as we have now had Hill 16 come to our home on two occasions for renovation/new projects and we have been completely satisfied and happy. For starters, Paul has outstanding follow up skills. He is always reachable via phone or text and communicates well. As someone else mentioned, he and his team are very clean, they show up on time, and they deliver high quality work. We had glass block installed in a wall where we wanted more light. It is fantastic and Paul and team did excellent work. Prior projects included building us a hall closet, fixing laminate wood flooring and floor boards, molding around doors, and framing and filling in a wall. We purchased our new home in MV in August 2012. I had previously remodeled our old house so had plumbers, flooring, demo, electrical etc people I normally use. However I needed a carpenter as I wasn't happy with the guy I used last time. Paul came highly recommended from a friend, and after meeting with him and reviewing the project & his services I expanded his role to general contractor/project manager. Aside from kitchen & electrical (wire all bedrooms, office, kitchen and family room for ethernet and AV), the remodel was mostly cosmetic, but quite extensive. To provide perspective, the total remodel took 2.5 months and projects ranged from small like weather proofing doors to large like complete remodel of kitchen Island. We ended up actually moving in earlier than we had planned so kudo's to Paul and his team for enabling that. Here are some of the qualities Paul brought to the job: - excellent advice on value-for-money improvements. For example, he recommended keeping existing cabinets (solid oak), but painting and reconfiguring/moving them around. He also recommended against moving the Island to allow for more space to the counter tops (turned out great in the end). In either case it would have been easier for him to just order and install all new but we had a lot to do with a limited budget. - punctual, courteous, listened and addressed our concerns, helped us make necessary decisions. - extensive crew he works with, all great people, and all did excellent work (electrical, plumbing, tiling, carpentry, demo, hauling). - flexibility around our schedule/requirements.. We had to wait 2 weeks as the flooring was delayed by the manufacturer and Paul worked with our schedule and came back when it arrived to finish up. - since we had already contracted with some people prior to Paul coming on board (eg countertops installer, ordering flooring, painters), it was necessary for Paul to engage and coordinate with them, which he did capably, even doing the floor prep work so we didn't have to pay the more expensive installers to do it. - has extensive library of things like base boards, crown moldings etc. - quality of work when completed was excellent. Furthermore, since I'm quite picky, if we asked him to modify anything he did so willingly. - had the knowledge & experience to point out where our other contractors (painters) hadn't done it correctly so we had them redo it (he even put blue tape on all the places they had to redo).. I could go on, but probably your tired of reading this review by now. In summary, if your like us, constrained budget (not necessarily small but conscious of how its used), constrained time, looks for value for money, quality and attention to detail then Paul is your guy. read more
