We had a good experience working with Hill's that I wanted to make sure was shared given some of the other reviews. I sampled their meat at an event and wanted to explore it as an option for our family. The salesman came out and spent 2 hours with us (know this will take that long, it really couldn't have been faster) building a menu and talking about their products. We thought we'd try it and signed a contract. The next morning we changed our mind just because we would still need to shop for fresh produce and I am on a plant based diet and so it wouldn't make sense. We called the company the next day and were able to talk directly with the owner. He was very nice and offered to work with us. When we decided it wasn't going to work he immediately canceled our contract and agreed, in writing, to cancel everything. I wanted to share this experience because it appears that others have struggled with cancellation and the company was very helpful and easy to work with for us. read more

I saw their booth at a country fair so I entered their drawing to win a food basket. Needless to say I didn't win but they wanted to make an appointment and do a presentation and give us food samples. I was told it would be 45 minutes , it turned into about 1 hour 45 minutes. I was late to work. The free sample was a 6 oz burger, 2 chicken cutlets, a small bag of frozen veggies and 4 sweet Italian sausage. Only enough to feed 2 people that's it. The sales person was very nice at the beginning but when I needed to leave you could tell he was mad. I already had a freezer that he needed to look at. So they couldn't sell me that. They wanted to give air purification system, water purification system, knives or cookware. We didn't need any of that. He never told us how much the meat was per pound. When all was said and done , my monthly bill was $730 . I asked for how long and he said six months. So $4400 for 6 months of meat with extras thrown in for free. I thought it was very expensive. So my husband said oh since I don't get any extras a need just meat can I get a discount an me he said. The discount wasn't even worth it. Then he said if you would of added another product like the air purification system, your bill would of went down by $70 a month. My husband said we want to talk it over and I needed to go to work. He left hills paraphernalia and I asked do you work on commission and he said yes. He was under that he didn't get the sale. You should let people talk about it. In my opinion it was very expensive for nothing especially when they don't mention the per pound price. I can go to bjs and get chicken for $.99 per pound. I am glad we didn't go with this and add a $730 monthly bill for 6 months! That's triple what I pay a month for groceries for a family of four! Pretty much a scam. Is the food good? Yes. Do they deliver the food? Yes. Can you get the same food at local grocers? Also yes (most of it). In order to make the food affordable you have to purchase either freezer (which costs like $3500) or a set of pots and pans (which costs about $2000) and you have to do this at every reorder. So every time you order you have to add another overpriced product to make up for the cost of food. The food is very small portions which they say is because there's no water, but my 2 year old can eat an entire chicken cutlet -they are THAT small. read more

After entering a raffle at a local fair, and not winning the prize, my wife received a call from a representative at Hills Home Market informing her she was qualified to receive a free meat sample. Rather than simply ship the sample, a salesperson would come to our home to deliver it. We let the salesman (his name was John) know up front that our interest was mostly in receiving the promised free meat sample, but we'd nonetheless listen to his pitch. Long story short, nothing I heard struck me as deceptive, but if you aren't willing to purchase a freezer (either from Hills Home Market or another retailer), the subscription service isn't for you because their business model relies on customer's purchasing month of frozen meats in advance, and of course having a place to store it. We prefer to purchase our meat fresh, on a weekly basis, from local supermarkets and farm stands, and did not want to purchase a freezer, so it was quickly determined the service was not for us, and the presentation was over about ten minutes after it started. John was noticeably unhappy to not make a sale, which is completely reasonable, but he said he's been in sales for decades, so I assume he is no stranger to rejection. In any event, I received the promised free meat sample, which came in a nice reusable freezer bag, before saying goodbye to John and seeing him on his way to his next appointment. The samples consisted of six sausages and two burgers. While I haven't yet cooked or consumed them, they appear to be of good quality. There was no high pressure to make a purchase, but I can certainly understand how people may come away feeling obligated to sign on the dotted line. The food is flash frozen and sealed and is portioned, which is ideal if you are trying to manage weight and portion control is important. I'm going to list this as two stars just so my review shows up better. It's one star. Let's get the basics out of the way: Yes, the sales pitch is just like everyone here has said. Both people at the table for two hours. Yes, it's a 6mo program, so you'll need a huge freezer or if you buy theirs, they guaranty the food against outage, at least that's good. The food cost is unknowable. Believe it! I used them for at least three years. Eventually, I made a small order so I could analyze it. I started by listing 3X grocery store prices for everything, but I still could not come up with the total charged. By this time, I had the freezer $3000, the cookware $3500, the storage system $900, and the skillet $700. (Yeah stupid, I know!) That's relevant because each 'extra purchase' elevates you in the 'program' to have a deeper food discount. This is the pitch. However, with the max food discount, it was still expensive. With the merchandise and food deliveries, I'm sure I spent over $25K with these people. I had a long conversation with who seemed to be the owner. I ranted and told him about my analysis. He agreed to give me the employees discount which is supposed to be 50% off everything but still refused to provide a by-line cost. I made one more small order and the 1-line cost was still too high. That was the last transaction I had with them. I thought the food was pretty good. Unless you are a very rich, stupid person, this is not for you. We have had Hills for almost two years now. We trusted them and their service so we decided to get their water softener system since we didn't see ourselves leaving their company in the near future. Well, the water system malfunctioned, and our water went from an average $214 to $1200. They offered to give us $600 in discount over a 6 month period. I'm a nurse raising four kids and I cannot believe this is happening. I cannot afford this bill at this time and they are taking a small amount of accountability for this. We're locked in for at least 3 more years. I plan to deal with it in court and hope the judge will also allow us out of the contract we have with them. Unacceptable. read more

Their sales guy was essentially a con artist and a blatant liar. We asked what if we moved how far the service would deliver and he said anywhere in New England but last time I checked New England covered more than a 100 mile radius so he blatantly lied to our face (I did my own research and they won't go farther than 100 miles from Hudson Ma) we also mentioned we were going to be doing work to our home and taking out loans and he made no mention of us having to take out a $7000 line of credit that he had hidden away on one of the forms and made no mention of it at all during the two hours at my house (that would have really hurt our construction loans and impacted our credit but he cared more about making a sale than our best interest ). I am very happy that I did my research and did not move forward as I feel it would have been a huge mistake to commit to something so fraudulent . He also didn't tell us he put us down for a 4 year plan and anything we signed he quickly snatched back from us so we couldn't read the fine print until after he left . I am truly shocked that people like this still exist and are still even able to pull off such deception even in the days of the internet. He also said he would only be 45 minutes but stayed at my house for 2+ hours on a Friday night. Thank god for the 18+ BBB complaints I found and a review about how they wouldn't refund a deployed veteran fighting for the freedom of others. These are the best steaks. The Chicken taste like butter. Great pork tenderloin too I have been eating their products for two years. I'm giving this one star because the meat was pretty decent. But there are three huge problems: the sales tactics, the prices, and the products. First, the sales tactics: we were made to sit through a patronizing hour+ sales talk full of scare tactics and misinformation. We were made to sit at the dining table, together, while our 2-year-old twins fended for themselves. (I just wanted to listen in while I cared for my kids in the next room. I was not allowed.) We were also "encouraged" to give the names and contact info of 20 friends in exchange for a filet mignon. We were promised that we would save a bundle of time and money with the grocery service. However, our grocery / household budget was exceeded every week with the service, and I still spent as much time grocery shopping as ever, because most of my grocery budget is on produce and perishables. We were then coerced into buying products, which are manufactured by Carico. These are absolutely THE WORST products we have ever bought, and the biggest financial mistake of our lives. We bought the freezer, the food storage system, and the pressure cooker. Because we ended up cancelling the food delivery, we're stuck paying these off at full price, which is highly inflated for the quality. The pressure cooker is ok, not great, but costs $700. You can get great pressure cookers for under $100. The food sticks and burns to the bottom, and it's difficult to use compared to other pressure cookers. The freezer is fine, but industrial quality and huge, so costs over $2000. We certainly don't need anything like that, and we can't resell it because you can get a similar sized freezer for $600. The food storage system is AWFUL. The system is several different-sized plastic food containers that can be vacuum-sealed. However, the tops began breaking as soon as we started using them. As instructed, we hand-washed them, but they broke anyway. I called to complain, and they said they'd replace the tops if we sent them back. I had no desire to pack them all up and send them back just to have them break again. They eventually agreed to reimburse the partial cost; in the process, I discovered the set cost $900. (As other reviewers have noted, they are not upfront about cost, and it's very difficult to find out how things are itemized.) $900 for cheap plastic Tupperware that breaks as soon as you use it. You can't even stack them in the fridge or wash them in the dishwasher. I wish I'd been less gullible listening to the Hill's / Carico sales pitch. I wish I'd listened to my gut. It is by far the worst financial decision we've ever made. read more

We have used Hills Home Market for nearly 2 years. I first got introduced at a Halloween festival in Sharon / south shore. During our first visit, Javier spent hours (hours. I hear he also cooks and gives salsa lessons to some customers :) and meticulously articulated the benefits and costs of the program. Most recently, Mike has taken over our account, managing visits and orders, and we found both helpful and willing to find ways to optimize our orders / experience. The good: the quality, responsiveness, and availability of produce (organic, no preservatives, no antibiotics, locally sourced) to be exceptional. The policy whereby they replace things that fail to please. It has taken the guesswork out of shopping weekly for a family of four. It also alleviated the stress of having last minute guests (a regular when your in-laws live in the same state). The delivery and customer service process is quick and efficient. Note: 95% of our regular order is for food. We do not buy processed/dry goods apart from papertowels, dish detergent, and toilet paper. Part of the sales pitch definitely veers in that direction, but I can't comment since we don't buy/use those products. The good outweighs that hassle - namely, they insist that both adults/decision makers in the household be present during visits. This caused some consternation, but in the end was actually helpful for us. I get why that is a sticking point for some people, but IMO if you are eating, you should buy in. Other aspect of hassle - it is a really difficult initial order or two. Trying to figure out your family's needs across weeks and months is challenging and the order process is difficult. Do not hesitate to reach out to customer service and ask any question. Final big change in behavior, for us - we got a dedicated freezer which we put in the basement (garage when we moved). At the time, we had limited fridge/freezer space and I do think it makes it worthwhile. You qualify for discounts based on other things of interest that you buy. Beyond the freezer and one other item, we have not purchased anything besides food. Final advice: make sure you get what you want - case in point, in our initial order, we received Bird's Eye or Green Giant frozen veggies when we wanted (thought we ordered) organic. Same with some salmon. We called/had the order corrected with no additional charge. There is never a problem getting something replaced or corrected. read more

I have been using Hill's for years now and never had any issues minus some items here and there i wasn't fond of but seeing as everything is 100% guaranteed they replaced them on my next order no questions asked for free. The Quality is outstanding and the packaging makes everything quick and easy. My rep John M. always takes good care of me. Reading some of these comments truly surprise me! We have been with hills since 2014 I can tell you our service has been outstanding. The customer service is always pleasant and even if we had a crushed box or unsealed item they responded fast and would make up for what ever it is. Our crazy work schedule allows me to just open my freezer and select a quality meat for my dinner, and the fish is excellent too. I would defiantly recommend Hills it's great to know that I can order my food for the holidays and not worry about running out to get a sale in quality meat..
