It was easily cleaner than most hotels I've stayed in. The location and the view were what got me! The view from the Charlie cannot be described with words. It is incredible to lay in the big bed and look out over the fields. It is soothing to the soul. I was there off season, and midweek, so maybe it was abnormal, but I rarely encountered anyone - actually my first encounter was as I was packing my car to leave! So, for me it was very quiet, very peaceful. The drive down Creek Road is also stunning, and it's not far too Dripping Springs and everything there. This is a really nice location to have privacy and peace but still things to do. The room had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker (along with a jug of water they provided). The shower took some time to heat up, but once it did, there was plenty of hot water and good pressure. There was an amenities room outside the Treehouse with access to ice, as well as games, books, etc. The owner, Matt was always super responsive to emails. Steve gave us a tour of the grounds, patios, the community room, and the chapel. He mentioned that he built the chapel, and it was so fun to see the pride in his eyes when he talked about each of the pieces of the chapel and how it was built. The entire grounds were incredibly gorgeous, with chickens, a duck, a cat, and little Gracie (their daschund) roaming about. I spent most of my time drinking tea on one of their screened porches, watching the animals cruise around in absolute silence (we were the only patrons on the property during our stay, score!!). Our breakfast each morning was OUT OF THIS WORLD. My second breakfast was a quiche, bacon, fruit with whipped cream, and oatmeal. I remember Belinda saying that there was a ton of food for me...all I could think was, "Challenge accepted!" Every scrap was eaten except for a small piece of bacon for Gracie. Belinda and Steve were so incredibly warm, welcoming, and personable. I really felt like I was at home with my family. I will definitely be coming back. We stayed in the Monarch cabin for our 12-year anniversary. We lucked out and found a relatively…read morecheap-ish two-night stay, so we went for it. The drive out is a bit out of the way -- Fredericksburg is about an hour from most larger cities -- but Onera itself is only about a minute from town. The property is fenced (mostly to keep cars out), though the surrounding area isn't the most scenic right now due to nearby construction. Inside the property you'll drive on a mix of paved and unpaved roads depending on where your cabin is. First impression: the shared pool area is much smaller than it looks in the photos. A little disappointing, but we came for the cabin anyway. Finding the Monarch cabin was easy and the instructions, gate code, and door codes were all clear and ready when we needed them. Communication and service were great. The cabin itself looked just like the photos. The decor was fun, the ladder to the second-floor hammock was a cool touch, and the kitchen setup was surprisingly complete: small fridge with freezer, dual hot plates, and a gas grill outside. You could easily cook full meals here - we did. Where things fell short was maintenance. Some areas were dirty or worn. The gas grill had torn metal right above the gas canister that made turning it on and off feel a little unsafe, and the grates were extremely dirty even after we tried cleaning them. The outdoor soaking tub was also dirty and uncovered when we arrived. Cleaning it wasn't hard, but the faucet was loose and the tub didn't seem to get hot water. Meanwhile the cabin shower had plenty of hot water the entire stay. Privacy was another surprise. The marketing makes the cabins look pretty secluded, but they're actually fairly close together. You can hear nearby conversations if windows are open, and the neighboring cabin's kitchen window was pointed directly at our outdoor tub -- so bring a swimsuit. The fire pit was a nice touch but there were no tools (or wood) given to light it. Also worth noting: the cabins don't have Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi code they provide seems to only work near the shared area. Overall, the treehouse concept is fun, but the experience didn't really match the price. It feels more like a novelty stay than a luxury one. It could still work as a unique base if you're visiting Fredericksburg for wineries and town activities, but I wouldn't come with high expectations.

Stayed at Onera this weekend to celebrate a milestone birthday in the Cocoon house!…read more Overall, this place was absolutely fantastic. The cocoon was lovely, clean, with lots of thoughtful little amenities like the espresso, grill and grill tools, robes, plenty of towels, etc. The pool was right next door to our unit so an easy walk and people were very respectful noise-wise. The pool was lovely- it's still heated even in the summer so very warm. The deck and chairs were clean, and I love the towel station where you don't need to use your room towels you can grab them there and discard. The pool is connected to a lovely sitting area in the trees with this awesome built in hammock- loved that!! The sauna was easy to use and adorable as well. I found the AC in the unit to be fantastic and kept our unit so cold, and the bed was great!! I also love how they cultivate plants to attract butterflies, so pretty. WiFi also worked amazing and was strong the whole time. We really enjoyed our lounge pool as well! Now, a couple things. I didn't look to see if there was a map, but our unit was not that private. Because the pool deck is raised you could see over our fence into our deck. You can also see roads and people and cars from our lounge pool. I am sure there is more privacy further back, but the cocoon doesn't have much at all and I probably would have picked a different unit if I knew that. Overall the photos made it look much more woodsy and remote than it is- everything is pretty close together and I really wish there was more trees so you aren't staring at the back of staff quarters when in the hammock. Second, you need a lighter to light the grill. We didn't know that and wasted a lot of time trying to troubleshoot. This place is really communicative so that was surprising that this wasn't notated in the check in instructions. There was also not a lighter in our room- requiring us to notify the concierge and wait for staff to deliver one. Finally, the cocoon has an extremely overwhelming smell of plastic- probably because it's made of plastic. It didn't bother my boyfriend but it was pretty off putting to me. The reason I gave five stars instead of four was because of their concierge service. Never in my life have I had such fast and helpful responses to everything I asked! I'm someone who has no qualms reaching out immediately for help if I am wondering about anything, and they were averaging a less than 5 minute response time- even when I sent a question at 4 am oncw that popped into my head while I was at an airport before our stay!! And that staff member arrived with our lighter in 5 minutes! There are always small things that can be changed, but we really enjoyed our time here and would love to come back- prices are significantly cheaper during the week so we would probably do that.

There are not that many options in the area and we decided to take the main house (they have the main house that sleeps four) and a guest house. We shared it with another couple who was also attending the nearby wedding and I remember it coming out to less than $100 night per couple. The house was charming, but rustic. It is a updated 19th century house that is cozily decorated. We never met the hosts, the Haydons, but they left us notes, fresh banana nut bread and a well stocked pantry and fridge for snacks, continental breakfast items and assorted beverages. We shared a spacious bathroom that had plenty of linen, shampoos, lotions, soaps and a hair dryer if you needed them. We were there in high summer during one of the worst droughts in history. So the grounds were a little scorched. However, they were still beautiful with graceful oaks and stone fences. The AC worked hard to keep up with the heat during the day, but at night the temperature was comfortable. There was a TV, DVD player and games, but we were otherwise occupied with the festivities to enjoy any of these amenities. We came and went as we pleased and pretty much had the run of the place. After the wedding we invited another couple over for drinks and we stayed up chatting. They were from the area and never had heard of the place. They were really surprised how cozy the house was and well maintained. We definitely recommend it and will use the Homestead if we need accommodations in the area again.

Of course nearly $200 a night feels costly when you're making the reservation, but when you are looking at the stars from the private hot tub - or from the private pool - the pain on your thinning wallet will dissipate. Everything was very clean. The sheets, comforter and towels were very clean and well laid out. That said, there were a few tiny things that could be improved upon the inside of the cabin (like not putting clean towels next to the toilet), but I don't think this is the forum to note the majority of those issues. Most important for you, gentle reader, is that you'll enjoy a getaway from the big city in this cabin. You should note though: don't expect to get great access to Cypress Creek from this cabin. The beautiful creek that snakes its way thru Wimberley is not adjacent to these cabins. Also, the majority of the access points to Cypress Creek are on private property, so I wouldn't recommend going to Wimberley to spend time near/in the creek (unless you drop a ton of cash on a rental that specifically notes that it has creek access). This cabin is perfect for a couple that needs some special, private time! It's isolated. Quiet. Secluded. Romantic. Cosy/small. It has very good vibes!

HORROR STORY: This was the worst rental experience ever!…read moreYou'll want to read every detail... I'm an author with a tight publication deadline looming. To meet it, I decided to escape my usual distractions and embark on a two-week writing retreat. Without transportation, I needed a place with a kitchen and high-speed internet so I could stay put and focus. I also preferred somewhere remote to minimize interruptions. After browsing various options, I settled on D6 Retreats, believing it would be ideal based on their photos. I chose their "Stargazer" RV, one of the few units equipped with its own kitchenette and bathroom. Although I anticipated a bit of rustic charm, I wasn't picky, having previously traveled in an RV for seven months. Upon arrival, I was stunned by how misleading the photos had been. The RV was significantly smaller and in far worse condition than depicted. It smelled strongly of mold, and the floors were so rotted that they almost felt springy with each step. Despite this, I tried to stay positive and unpacked my belongings. Soon, I noticed swarms of tiny, biting gnats and an air conditioning unit so loud it overpowered my noise-canceling headphones and music. Determined to focus on my work, I set up my laptop, only to discover that the Wi-Fi was down. I contacted the resort using the provided number, and they instructed me to try again after resetting the router. This started a frustrating exchange that dragged on throughout the day and night. By the next morning, the Wi-Fi was still non-functional. I explained that my primary reason for being there was to work on my book, which I couldn't do without internet access. The resort staff were unhelpful, continually blaming AT&T. Eventually, the owner, Tara, reached out. She was kind and admitted they were aware of the issue, offering me a cabin at their other location until the Wi-Fi was fixed. The cabin had no bathroom, kitchen, or running water--just a bed--and despite being charming, it became unbearably hot. Even with the A/C running, it was like sitting in a puddle of sweat. The lack of a bathroom meant frequent trips to the "outhouse," adding to my discomfort. By 5 pm, with no Wi-Fi fix in sight, I requested a refund to find alternative accommodation. Tara provided a portable hotspot for the RV, and later that evening, the Wi-Fi was restored. Despite the rough start, I hoped I could finally concentrate on my project. The next morning, while working in the RV, used the bathroom. When I flushed, the toilet backed up, filling with water that had disturbing black objects floating in it. To my horror, these turned out to be black soldier fly larvae. A quick search confirmed that larvae in an RV toilet indicated serious issues with the holding tanks and sewage lines, which would require hydroblasting and fumigation. The larvae began climbing up the toilet sides, trying to escape. I contacted the retreat immediately, but no one responded. After 40 minutes, hunched over the toilet of terror and battling larvae, I encountered a maintenance worker at a neighboring RV who agreed to try reaching the retreat on my behalf. An hour later, I received a text saying someone would be sent, but it was clear a simple maintenance fix wouldn't be sufficient. I sent the retreat an article about the severity of the problem & the necessary treatments & insisted on leaving, but they refused to acknowledge that as an option. As larvae contined to try and escape the toilet, the maintenance worker returned, promising that bleach would solve the problem. I watched him pour half a gallon of bleach down the toilet. Unfortunately, within minutes, larvae began reappearing. My ride arrived shortly after, & I quickly vacated the premises. The first thing my friend said upon entering the RV was, "Oh god, what is that smell?" followed by, "Who would ever want to stay here?" Nearly ten days later, after following up, the retreat finally issued a partial refund. A partial refund after such an ordeal was infuriating. It was the final straw that prompted me to write this review. Beware of this place.

The cabins are nice and comfortably house a few people each. The beds however were NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL. The cabin is nicely air conditioned but that amounts to nothing in the beds that I could only describe as "hot." The retreat also advertised "WiFi on 99% (their number) of the retreat." To put it bluntly... the WiFi was not good. Our friend had to use his phone as a hot spot for our stay. We spent most of our time at the pool which was laughably small considering, as we discovered day 1 of our stay, that it was shared not only amongst the cabins and house that reside on D6 Retreat but also neighboring campgrounds. Thus leading to a very cramped swimming experience. Don't expect to do laps in the pool. On the topic of "neighboring campgrounds" and "discoveries day 1 of our trip" we had a small interaction with the hosts of D6 regarding noise. We were informed via email that "quiet hours were between 10PM to 7AM." Our party had full intentions to abide to this rule. We had spoken with the many neighbors that we had intentions to set up Karaoke around 8 in the evening until the designated quiet time. Our neighbors residing in the house and some from a close campground were down to join in on the festivities. Unfortunately, roughly 10 minutes after the equipment was set up and a mic check was complete we were approached by the "supposed" owners of the campground to inform us that amplified music was not allowed on the grounds unless we rented out the entire retreat. Not just the house and cabins, but EVERY NEIGHBORING CAMPGROUND that as far as our party could tell was not advertised as part of the retreat. We abided to their wishes but the situation left a sour taste in our party's mouth as it was a poorly communicated rule not given to us prior to our stay. We had a nice weekend despite the hitch in our plans to Karaoke but we probably will find a more lenient campground to stay at next time we decide to escape the city. I mean, who doesn't wanna do karaoke? ‍ TL;DR Cabins are nice, beds are NOT. WiFi is spotty at best. Pool is small. Views are nice. Poorly communicated rules are NOT NICE.

Mary's breakfast and snacks were delicious, and her knowledge of the town, recommendations and directions to various venues was very helpful. We had some wonderful conversations at the counter each morning while we drank our coffee and she prepared breakfast, which you'd never get at a hotel. And the best part...slept very well on the comfortable mattress in the Moon room! Thank you, Mary! If I'm ever back in DS, I hope you have a room free!
