This place has a really nice park and beautiful trails. I always feel save walking here with my dogs.

My significant other and I came here to Hillside Park yesterday to our surprise there was a plethora of people! The weekends have been quiet but on a Wednesday there were dog walkers, soccer practice for kids with their families, joggers, groups of people just out having fun and getting some sunshine. We came prepared, we brought a big blanket, neck pillow, jackets, radio, snacks, water, frisbee, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, etc. To tell you the truth it looked like we were going on a week long vacation we had so much stuff. So since the kiddies were playing soccer on the main field we decided to walk up the hill and to the other side of the park where the picnic tables are and I'm so glad we did! Wow, a little bit of Oregon is what we call this park. It's our sanctuary, our safe haven from all the crowds and smog of the city. It's like you are in another world. There is a trail that leads to a charming brown wooden bridge. I even saw a holly berry tree, Prickly Pear Cactus, lots of pine trees that photographed well, bright vivid green grass, Sycamore trees and so many others. It was a nice little nature walk and hike. Also, got a good work-out with playing frisbee for almost an hour. We had a wonderful little adventure yesterday and so glad we went! The only way to make this score one star higher is to add a bench or some chairs to the parts of the park that have none and also not close up the bathrooms so early. It's not good to have to walk a mile away to the bathrooms and be closed out!

Hillside Community Center is a great family park. It is NOT a dog park. Dogs are welcomed in the park but MUST BE ON LEASH! If you happen to be enjoying the park with your dog and do not have them on a leash, you can be ticketed. The Rec is opened to the public from 3pm to 9pm Monday-Friday. It is closed on the weekends and most holidays. There is a game room with a pool table, Foosball, ping pong and many others. All you need is an ID to play. Inside the game room is where you can find all he information on center events, classes and other parks. The closest off leash dog parks would be Wells Park or Harry Griffen Park.

The downside that I experienced today is that too many parents treat it as daycare, while they sit and doom scroll on their phones the entire time rather than watch their own children. Maybe the solution is more staff on site to enforce safety for ALL, and possibly color coded wristbands to help locate children and their parents quicker. When I was there there was only one young lady who was working, and she was doing what she could in terms of cleaning and helping guests. The 4 and under area seemed to be overran by kids who seemed older than 4 and were rough housing. Did not feel safe to have my 1 year old playing in the same vicinity. Children possibly between the ages of 5-7 walking on the ledge of the ball pit area and jumping onto the inflatable obstacle course. I was worried if they lost their balance walking on the ledge they would've landed on my daughter who was sat playing in the ball pit. One older boy, around 5-6 years old forcefully moved my 1 year old's hand from an item they both wanted, and parents nowhere to be found or redirect the behavior. So, I instead moved my daughter to a different area. One parent seemed to have stayed on his computer with headphones in the ENTIRE time while we were there, and I never saw him get up to check on his children the hour that we were there. Safety should be the priority for everyone and parents sitting there staring at a screen is totally unfair to the parents who are near their children the entire time, as this place claims it should be. We did enjoy it, though it seemed more stressful trying to make sure the other older children didn't accidentally hurt my child while their parents' face remained glued to a screen.

What is awesome is you pay for the day and enter in and out as much as you would like. You can bring in food and drinks just not "party size" which makes sense! The kids loved it here it has a little bit of everything. It was perfect for our rainy day Also the manger was sooooo nice! A couple of the kids had a minor accident and she made sure to go out of her way checking in on the kids asking if we needed anything and even offering ice packs. There is a bit of remolding going on for future expansion it looks like.

The laser tag was extremely fun for the kids! Man, I had forgotten how much fun laser tag is until I saw my kid and her friends playing. Then the party room was simple, but served its purpose really well. Our party hostess, Karrina, was really great with the kids and made sure the party kept moving along. I think what I liked the best about the experience for the party, was that our hostess walked the kids around to the rides and through the arcade so they could familiarize themselves with the layout of the Boardwalk. As I was talking with the adults, we were discussing competitors like Bowlero and Lucky Strike and how unreasonably priced it is for a family of four now a days. Just the arcades there are so expensive! Here, the kids were able to make their tokens last for hours and walked away with some fun prizes too. I hope the prices never get ridiculously high here. I grew up going to Parkway Bowl and the Boardwalk. I am so happy that the accessible pricing has remained. Additional shout outs to MC and Noelle (staff members who were very helpful and attentive). Please don't change Parkway! Thank you for allowing us to host an epic party!

The price of games isn't bad compared to other arcades. The cleanliness was actually up to par for sure. The eating area has plenty of options, the pizza is really good so make sure to give that a go. There is a few rides along with laser tag! The boardwalk is connected to the bowling alley so go bowl some frames too. The Boeing are just opened up a remodeled section and it looks absolutely amazing!! Definitely a monthly visit for me.

First let me point out that the one easily missed sign for the park clearly states Bill Beck Play Ground. This could have affected my decision to visit when I did. On a positive note I was able to check off one more park I've visited. It was actually a nice park to visit. My biggest challenge as a 70 year old man was the fact that there were no public restrooms available. This inconvenience cut my visit short and I ended up going to the Library to relax and use the restroom before the car show. On the day I visited the place was practically empty. One man enjoying the exercise equipment and a coule of kids on the play structure. I'm going to guess the kids were with the man. In addition to the play structure and exercise equipment was a nice field where all sorts of games can be played. There were several picnic tables available with a reasonable amount of mature Shade trees. The addition of a public restroom would have greatly boosted my star rating, even a porta potty with a hand washing station would have been acceptable. I've talked to El Cajon locals nearly my age that lived in the neighborhood as kids who had fond memories of Bill Beck Play Ground. They had the luxury of running across the street to use the restroom at home. I did have a nice picnic and took a few pictures to share. Thanks for reading . Enjoy the photos. ¹
