Indoor Pool -- NO Lifeguard On Duty
    Candi R.

This is a nice little Hilton in Riverhead, NY!! It's next door to a Residence Inn by Marriott and across (literally) the street from the Tangers Outlet! This Hilton is three floors and includes a 24 hr shop to buy snacks -- don't buy anything unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. My son and I checked in late (places were closed). 2 bags of chips, 2 Nesquick milks, a Hot Pocket and 2 alcoholic drinks cost $70 They have a restaurant on site which serves breakfast from 6am -10am and dinner from 5pm-10pm. Employees were nice, but breakfast was mid, but ok. The Indoor Pool and Jacuzzi ("Spa") were nice. The water wasn't too cold for the pool and the spa was a nice temperature even though the jets weren't working properly (or maybe I didn't know how to turn them on). I like that I was able to have a digital key on my phone that allowed me unlock all of the areas within my scope as a guest. Employees were friendly, and very helpful when needed. If I had to return to this area, I would definitely attempt another stay.

I was on a business trip and stayed overnight. The Hotel was great very modern and accommodates me staying on the first floor. The restaurant was surprising. The food price was reasonable and I had a special burger with bacon avocado. There was other items in it but I forgot. Nevertheless, it was very good and I would go there even if I didn't stay there. Billy the waiter was great! They have a nice outdoor area with lights and a firepit. Very enjoyable. Room was clean. The remotes are wrapped to avoid the spread of Covid germs. They had a pool, but unable to check it out. My disappointment was breakfast. They would do buffet but the times forced that to change. I felt the quality of breakfast was very off. Sausage and bacon is cheap pre-made and tough to eat. It's not the cooks fault, it's what they are ordering. Coffee is free and include a machine for cappuccino and espresso. Overall, I would return, but I might skip the breakfast or just order pancakes.

If you are staying in Riverhead and don't mind being in the outskirts of downtown - then this place is a good option Of course the rate for a room for the entire area is insane for the entire area. Double bed was and easy. $400 It's comfortable and clean Check in was quick and staff at check in were friendly. Parking was easy I saw an inside pool and fire pits outside. The lobby was inviting . Also has a restaurant on one side of lobby. Little snack shop up by the check in

A Tale of Two Towels I had the pleasure, along with much of my family, of attending the wedding of my nephew this weekend at Riverhead, New York. Unfortunately, this pleasure did not extend to our accommodations at the Riverhead Hilton Garden Inn. I am embarrassed for my brother and sister-in-law that this was the hotel offered to their guests. When I say that my stay at the Hilton was the most disappointing I have ever experienced would be an understatement. As a career member of the U.S. military and on pleasure trips both in this country and overseas, I've stayed in many hotels from budget inns to the priciest. It is no hyperbole when I say that the Riverhead Garden Inn was the worst of the lot. Especially since it was the most expensive I've stayed at in many years. To be sure, it certainly looks nice and offers many amenities (which, frankly, still do not justify with what I consider an exorbitant rate), but that is not the reason I'd prefer to stay in a Sicilian waterfront hostel which charges by the hour. No, it is the surly, most unhelpful attitude and behavior by the staff. It is apparent to me that they must have missed the class on Customer Service when seeking a Hotel Management degree. Sadly, despite the cheery placards which trumpet the Hilton guarantee of the ultimate experience possible, the Garden Inn falls well short of the mark. The most glaring example of this is the reaction we received when asking that more towels be provided to our rooms. I have never in more than forty years felt guilty when asking to be helped. But, I most certainly did this weekend. Upon arrival, I saw that each room was provided only two bath towels. This for a room with two adults who are staying two nights. When I asked for more, I was told that I could exchange used towels for fresh ones. To be honest, I thought the front desk was putting me on for some Candid Camera gag. Sadly, they were dead serious. This is completely unacceptable, if for nothing else than I needed to wait for them while I was ready to take shower. Then, when the towels finally arrived, they weren't even bath towels. They were blue pool towels. Once again, blue pool towels when I am paying nearly $1,000 for two nights? The snarky excuse I was provided is that the hotel is rationing towels because, apparently, guests are stealing them. Well, I'm sorry (actually, I'm not), but if I'm paying-once more-nearly $500 a night (with a MINIMUM two-night stand), I would think the Hilton could suck up the cost of a $5.00 towel. Or, if a guest does take a towel, assess that guest when they check out. How hard is that? Good grief. To be treated as a towel parasite is beyond the pale. To emphasize my point, this has never in my life been an issue. Never. Incidentally, I was curious what would have happened if I asked for more toilet paper. Would I have had to plop an empty roll on the front desk to get a fresh roll? Sign a sworn affidavit that I was efficient in my use of said bathroom tissue? Two squares maximum (one if two-ply)? Thank goodness I didn't see a Taco Bell during my stay. Needless to say, I will never again stay at a Hilton property. What's more, I will encourage family and friends to do likewise. The bright spot? This Towel Fascism will provide many laughs in the future. I will say that the shuttle drivers who brought us back and forth from the venue were outstanding, helpful people. Although, I would not be surprised if they were not Hilton employees.

Odd speck on bed when we first checked in. Lifted covers up to check for bed bugs & found this

What was good: Check in- Madeline was great and personable even late at night Location- Near lots of restaurants, farms, breweries, shopping and more COVID policies- masks wearing was enforced as well as social distancing What was okay: Pool- Indoor pool wasn't warm enough but otherwise decent size and nice Grab & Go Marketplace- decent selection but not enough freezer items & not the alcohol selection we wanted. Would have been nice to see some local selections. Tanger Outlet Coupons- They just had a stack of these next to the grab & go marketplace. Considering they are right across the street from the outlets it would've been great if they gave us these at check-in. What was bad: Bathroom- In our room there was some strange looking red spots all over the door frame. Couldn't tell if it was mold, rust or blood. Totally gross either way. There was also hair on the walls Acoustics- When we were in our room (room 119) we could hear absolutely everything. Any time a toilet would flush in another room, a sink would turn on, if someone walked around upstairs, etc we could hear it like it was in our room. This kept us from having a good nights sleep. Also, I don't know if they were doing construction or repairs somewhere in hotel but throughout the evening we heard banging very loudly. We were exhausted at the end of our stay. Curtains- Our room looked out into the parking lot. However, the only curtain was a sheer see through one. They had another thicker curtain that was just for show though as there was no track to close that curtain so that we wouldn't expose ourselves every time we wanted to change for bed. Would I stay there again? Yes, but only off season. The price ($180+ tax/night) was WAY too expensive for this hotel. If I paid $100 for it I would consider it more worthwhile.

I was trying to do my 4 day reservation I called and right away they put me on hold with out letting me respond I waited 8 minutes on the phone for the receptionist to say I'm gonna take your # and call you in 15 minutes all I wanted to know was if their indoor pool was open I'm very disappointed by the receptionist

Concierge Alberto is the best!…read more I've never quite been to a hotel like this; while unassuming on the outside, the interior, contemporary, decor is really something else. All the facilities are extremely hi-tech. Even the 'Do not Disturb' notice is a touchscreen electronic gadget of sorts. Really cool. The Preston House has its own restaurant on the ground floor. Unfortunately for me-- during Christmas Day-- the hours were obviously curtailed, and I was unable to partake; but I mean, they have two different ramen bowls as part of the main menu? That's impressive, considering how hard I have to search for good ramen all the time. Again, pretty cool. Again, Alberto was a lifesaver, and managed to help me through all my demanding spa/pool questions. Once I arrived to the House, he remembered me from my phone call, and was happy to make extra accomodations being that I arrived early. He was also the last person I spoke with upon departure, but not before he saw that my complimentary breakfast was complete and satisfactory. Maybe things were quiet during Christmas, but I've never had such individualized service such as that Alberto provided. 3x really cool. I had to try really hard not to leave with the robes....maybe next time. A++ Maybe $50 a little too pricey per evening, but you check it out. I think every hotel is about $50 too pricey to be honest. You can't beat the location for town, and I would literally love to have a room here as a condo, without question. Thanks for reading; I owed it to Alberto, lol. Ciao

The rooms are modern, clean and well kept but they are very sparsely furnished. The rooms are spacious but not many places to relax and sit comfortably. There is more than enough room for a small table with at least two club chairs, a bench in front of the bed, maybe even a loveseat but instead it's just big open flooring with a king size bed and one chair- not really anywhere for more than one person to sit comfortably. There is a fridge which is always nice to have and the staff was pleasant and attentive. A free breakfast was included, they served egg sandwiches, yogurt, fruit and pastries but still not worth a price tag of almost $475+ a night. The website also makes it seem like the restaurant is open and available to guests but is was completely shut down, which was very disappointing. Again the staff was nice and attentive, the rooms were clean but considering how much we paid and how underwhelming the stay was I think 3 stars is actually a generous review.

My siblings and I are planning to gather in Lordship Township, which is part of Stratford,…read moreConnecticut, to celebrate my sister's birthday in January 2025. Our family has gathered here for about 30 years, for holiday dinners at our mom's house, which is in Lordship Township, right on Long Island Sound. For all of those years, those of us who traveled from a distance would stay at Marnick's, a locally owned hotel that's right on the beach near our mom's house. Our mom passed a few years ago and I hadn't returned to Lordship Township since then. On a whim, browsing online for hotels in the area, I learned about The Surfside Hotel. I learned that Marnick's had closed and that a while later Surfside emerged, sporting a whole new vibe. Prior to committing to recommending a sibling gathering there, I spent the night last week at Surfside. I'm happy to report that the upgrade is impressive. While the rooms now cost more than they did when Marnick's owned the place, the prices are well within reason for the area. I took an Amtrak from D.C. (about 6 hours), paid about $12 for an Uber/Lyft from the train station, and arrived to meet Iona at the hotel's front desk. She took my information and offered that she'd been there for about 2 years and the present owners have been there for about six years. All the features of the hotel appeared to be solidly restored and improved upon. I had a second-story room (21) with a balcony looking out to the Sound. There was a complimentary coffee bar with self-serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit, and snack bars. There's a beach-reading library, so I contributed my copy of Rachel Kushner's recent novel, "Creation Lake," which I finished reading on the train ride from DC. There were no downsides. There's a decent efficient fitness center that includes a Peloton and free weights. There's a map of the area suggesting pleasant walks along the seawall, Russian Beach, the Prospect Light House, and Long Beach Gatehouse. There are paths taking hikes of two miles, 3.6 miles, and five miles, and a suggestion for a longer bike ride. The main reason for this visit was to see whether the siblings would be able to stay on site for meals. There's a well-populated bar and restaurant attached to the hotel called The Little Pub (see my Yelp review.) There's also a neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar half a block away. There's a deli and an adjacent pizza parlor three blocks away, where I picked up a single slice of pizza and a portion of carrot cake. The Lordship Corner Market is right next to the pizzeria, and has sandwiches, newspapers, and sundries for days at the beach. For those with cars, I can recommend the Cricket Car Hop, a mile or two inland, for great hot dogs, burgers & fries (it was a favorite of my mom's, and we went there just about every time I visited, but I wasn't in town long enough this time to visit). Things to keep in mind: Surfside is a small business, not part of any chain. Iona needed to know when I was likely to arrive, to be sure someone was available for check in. No one was at the front desk when I checked out (but I received a check-out acknowledgement shortly after 9 a.m. the day I checked out). I believe pets are welcome (I saw a service dog there as I was leaving in the morning). There are no elevators, and my room was on the second floor. The hotel is still using single-use plastics for the shower, and the tub lacked handholds. But the vibe is good . . . we get the aloha and mahalo greetings, suggesting Hawaiʻi roots. The innkeepers report that "Boy knows nothing about running a hotel, but restaurant comes with a hotel attached so it's all or nothing. Boy must convince Girl it's a good idea. Girl is not impressed. Boy breaks into song. Girl is impressed and says YES! Restaurant and hotel are redone, there is singing and dancing, and everyone is happy." True Romance! Mahalo

Rooms are nice for the most part, but oddly lacking in the overhead lighting they provide, so hopefully anything you need to get ready for doesn't require too much illumination. Otherwise the rooms are comfortable, albeit a bit on the smaller side but large enough for a short stay. Parking is decent in the attached lot, but getting out can be a little rough since it's right along a main road. Additionally, it's within earshot of the racetrack, which can be quite noisy during the day, but was no issue by the time we got back at night. Breakfast is also served in the mornings and they offer a good variety and decent quality, but nothing to write home to mom about, but I've certainly had worse too.
