Beautiful upscale boutique hotel! We normally wouldn't stay over in a place like this but we splurged for our daughter's wedding and we're so glad that we did. Amenities such as robes and slippers in the bathroom, a Nespresso coffee machine in our room and tasteful decorations were bonuses. Beautiful artwork upon exiting the elevator on every floor. But these 5 stars are for the honest care and friendliness of Danielle, in the morning, at the front desk. What a gem! I hope she is appreciated by her employer. This hotel is overpriced for what it is and it is misrepresented as a hotel and restaurant on their website. The rooms are modern, clean and well kept but they are very sparsely furnished. The rooms are spacious but not many places to relax and sit comfortably. There is more than enough room for a small table with at least two club chairs, a bench in front of the bed, maybe even a loveseat but instead it's just big open flooring with a king size bed and one chair- not really anywhere for more than one person to sit comfortably. There is a fridge which is always nice to have and the staff was pleasant and attentive. A free breakfast was included, they served egg sandwiches, yogurt, fruit and pastries but still not worth a price tag of almost $475+ a night. The website also makes it seem like the restaurant is open and available to guests but is was completely shut down, which was very disappointing. Again the staff was nice and attentive, the rooms were clean but considering how much we paid and how underwhelming the stay was I think 3 stars is actually a generous review. read more

We absolutely had the most amazing time in this upscale, done to almost perfection hotel. We had a two room suite and it was worth the upgrade. It was a cold as you dare room, (No Red Hot Moments here), with floor to ceiling windows, a Marble bathroom (as big as some NYC hotel rooms, and huge king bed. I loved the personal touches, such as hot water kettle. Amazing Customer service and excellent wifi. This hotel is Worth the extra splurge. A few things they seem to lack in: there are no USB ports and the outlets are few and far. We actually had to pull the bed light and clock plugs. Also the parking can be tricky. No one seems to patrol the lot and ours filled up one night with all kinds of locals as well as some who were visiting the aquarium directly across the street. Other than that this pop art, quaint, extremely large amazing room and hotel was a top stay for not just our Long Island trip but maybe our favorite room in a long time. The breakfast is truly just Continental and the area is interesting. However, I would come back for the room time and again. Overall, we had a very nice stay here at The Preston House and Hotel. While the rooms are true to the photos, it somehow feels a little different once inside. The room was missing a few key details, such as a place to hang the hand towels in the bathroom once you used them. There was also no pen and paper like you would typically find in a room. I like to use these to leave notes with a daily tip for the cleaning staff. But there were some nice details too. For example, the rugs on either side of the bed were flush. And I liked that the toilet had a door that closed it off from the rest of the bathroom. They provide plush terry robes and slippers, but upon request. Be sure to ask for them when you check in! The king size bed was very comfortable. The single chair in the room, however, was not. It sits under a reading lamp but it's neither large nor soft enough to really settle into. There's also no table next to it, where typically I would set down my cup of coffee or glass of wine and perhaps my phone as I read. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There was also a complimentary continental breakfast each morning but it ends pretty early, at 9:30 AM. That's fine when you're traveling for business, but not so much when on a relaxing vacation when you may want to sleep in just a bit longer. Are you kidding me!? Risotto cacio e pepe. I added steak to sub mushrooms. (I'm allergic to mushrooms). This was a FULL portion!? They charged an extra $18 for steak, making it an almost $50 meal. Three discs of unseasoned steak! I make cacio e pepe all the time and this was completely tasteless. My husband has been dying to try the chicken parm sandwich... And then he finds pickles on it... Who puts pickles on a chicken parm!? Not enough sauce, either. Don't bother. Completely disappointed. We've been waiting to try this place for a long time and we tried it out for a special occasion today. This was a completely overpriced "meal". Money wasted. No thanks, preston house. read more

The experience begins from the moment you step in the door and are greeted by an exceptionally friendly and professional staff. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the rooms impeccably appointed with European designed furnishings, polished cement floors and every accessory you need from mini fridge, microwave, espresso machine and electric tea pot. Plenty of room to unpack and feel at home. We had a suite complete with shower and tub for two which made our stay as romantic as possible. Not to mention everything is immaculate in the time of Covid. Lastly their restaurant is fabulous. If you've never had their spaghetti with lobster and black truffles, you've miss a culinary delight. EXTREAMLY CLEAN HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!! This is by far the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a variety of 5 star hotels (this is a 4 star hotel). The front desk staff is awesome. Very modern, very beautiful and again I can't stress how clean the hotel is. The bathrooms are very pleasing to the eye. Will certainly be staying again! Only annoyance is due to the volume of people in the off season , in room dining is not offered every day. I would of liked to try that. A lovely and sophisticated restaurant with delicious food. The house setting was quaint. As a foodie, felt like it was NYC quality (as were the prices). We had the strip steak and flounder, salad and Brussel sprouts. Also had fried oysters. Good but there was. A shell in one of them, so that was a mishap. Dessert was beignets with raspberry sauce. Concierge Alberto is the best! I've never quite been to a hotel like this; while unassuming on the outside, the interior, contemporary, decor is really something else. All the facilities are extremely hi-tech. Even the 'Do not Disturb' notice is a touchscreen electronic gadget of sorts. Really cool. The Preston House has its own restaurant on the ground floor. Unfortunately for me-- during Christmas Day-- the hours were obviously curtailed, and I was unable to partake; but I mean, they have two different ramen bowls as part of the main menu? That's impressive, considering how hard I have to search for good ramen all the time. Again, pretty cool. Again, Alberto was a lifesaver, and managed to help me through all my demanding spa/pool questions. Once I arrived to the House, he remembered me from my phone call, and was happy to make extra accomodations being that I arrived early. He was also the last person I spoke with upon departure, but not before he saw that my complimentary breakfast was complete and satisfactory. Maybe things were quiet during Christmas, but I've never had such individualized service such as that Alberto provided. 3x really cool. I had to try really hard not to leave with the robes....maybe next time. A++ Maybe $50 a little too pricey per evening, but you check it out. I think every hotel is about $50 too pricey to be honest. Really disappointed that I had to make this review but it had to be done. I have been wanting to come here for about a year and actively hyping it up since then. Finally I decided to try it yesterday and damn, what a disappointment . Came for lunch around two with a friend and it was empty only a few tables with people. The brunch/ lunch menu was decent but not much spoke to us and it was also considerably pricy. I ordered the salmon and my friend got a burger. The food comes out and mine seemed fine although the portion was equivalent to a tapas for $34 I was not thrilled. My friends burger which she asked for to be medium rare came out well done, she hesitated at first but sent it back. When the burger came back my friend cut into it and it was cooked at first sight but then after a closer inspection we realized it was still raw inside- actually cool to the touch which is unacceptable. Naturally we had to send it back or risk a case of e-coli. At that point I was done eating so my friend decided not to order anything else. When the check came the burger was removed but frustratingly enough charged $4 for seltzer which pisses me off honestly. I'm not cheap but give me a break after that shit show the entire bill should have been comped and the manager should have come out to apologize. The waitress was very nice as this is not her fault but I'm definitely not going back here. Also market price on the lobster roll was $52 sorry that is robbery I paid $38 at Duryea's in the middle of July. read more

Worth going for the corn agnolotti; rest was only ok. We ordered two drinks: blackberry bourbon and an old fashioned. The bourbon drink really needed more bourbon or better bourbon. The old fashioned was really lackluster--easily among the worst 3 we've ever been served. I do want to note that all service was excellent--from the host, to the assistants filling water glasses, to the waitstaff. Corn agnolotti was a thing of beauty. Perfect pasta, absolutely stellar combination of flavors. I'd go back and order that alone. The other three dishes we had were "meh." Tuna tartare with strawberries was ok--the sauce served along with it was just too tangy--it wasn't a great balance. I had lobster burrata toast. A good portion of the lobster was rubbery. The burrata needed more seasoning--a pesto or at least some olive oil, salt & pepper. It was served alongside a beautiful looking pea presentation, but the pea shells were quite tough. My husband had the lobster roll--it just didn't have enough "binder." It was advertised as having a mayo base, but we really couldn't taste it at all. Again, a good portion of the lobster was rubbery, so just not an enjoyable dish. We returned to have dinner last week. Again, we stopped at the bar for a cocktail, which are crafted so well. We had 2 drinks that were so delicious. I wish I could remember the names. Then we sat outside for dinner. Had a dozen oysteres and a carafe of the red wine on tap. For dinner we had the chana dish and a burger with fries. They were both delicious. Great food. Great drinks. Great experience. We had their prefix menu for restaurant week and it was nothing short of superb. We both got something different so we could share. The mussels were amazing and lightly spicy. The salad was fresh and lightly dressed. The main course, the fisherman's pot, was spectacular. Fresh fish and the broth was so flavorful. Then dessert. I could have died and gone to heaven and I would have been happy. Not a fan of brownies but gave it a shot. It wasn't your average brownie. It was light and toasty. The Preston House and Hotel deserves so many more starts than just 5. I was there for my best friend's wedding, and were blessed to have a wedding bloc for the family and friends. The rooms are beautifully decorated and had very sleek and modern. The staff was on a whole other level and was polite, professional, and came to our every need. We had the rehearsal dinner at their connecting restaurant and again the food and service was amazing. Since we loved the food so much we decided to go their for the post wedding brunch. Which is arguably one of the best brunch places I've been to in general (shoutout to the Fried Chicken and Waffles). read more

While the food we ordered was tasty and nicely presented, only the value here is missing. The tables have no white linens, the dining room's noise level at times approached that of a cafeteria. A waiter could be seen in the dining room scratching his back on a door jam. The bread dish had only two pieces of bread while the prices for entrees ranged from the 40s into the 60s. One of the evening specials, a porterhouse steak for two had a market price of $250! Dining at 5 star restaurants in Manhattan, chateaubriand for two doesn't command a market price that high. We ordered gelato for dessert. Two ramekins with a modest scoop of gelato no garnish, not even a few slices of strawberry, were both disappointing. The service is brisk. I went to this restaurant during spring Restaurant Week. On a beautiful Sunday, sitting indoor but with wonderful views of the surrounding outdoors, we enjoyed a nice sampling of the chef's creation. For the appetizer course I had the creamiest lightest gnocchi in a mushroom sauce. It was off the charts. Haven't had since 1984 in Milan such a wonderful gnocchi dish. Next time I want this for an entree. The entree I chose was a cod fish in a much too overbearing sauce. How sad. The small portion of fish was perfectly cooked but deserved a sauce that was light in flavorings. The dessert was a key lime mouse like creation served with fruit and a dollop of whipped cream. Good, creamy but not spectacular. I enjoyed it but not something I need to taste on another visit. I will come back for the gnocchi. read more

WOW! ... Amazing from beginning to end. The restaurant (and hotel) are beautiful. The staff and service is efficient and elegant. The food...the food....the food!!!... is beyond perfection. I (along with my 2 friends) had the sauteed calamari, goat cheese tart, and Mussels for appetizers. The mussels was quite possibly the best thing I've ever tasted...not just the best mussels...literally the best food I'v ever tasted. For dinner I had the Scallops and they were perfection as well. I have had two meals here recently and everything from the ambience to the service to the food is exquisite. The menu is eclectic we started with Pit Master bacon , Crispy artichoke heart we also had the Preston House chopped salad it is great housemaid dressing chopped crispy greens, avocado, hearts of palm. The beef braise with fergula and kale is very tasty, the best wild salmon any of us had ever eaten , and the duck leg confit with an exotic chutney. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and loved it!! Very very very clean - spotless. We felt safe and comfortable during Covid to sleep here. We went for a trip to vineyards, farms, antique shopping, and a sunset swim in the Sound. All things you can do easily if you have a car. We highly recommend this place, super reasonable on price and top notch on service, cleanliness and decor. Comfy king size bed, polished concrete floors made for a very cool and cozy stay. read more

So happy Preston house is open again! After being seated at a lovely table on the front porch, we were greeted by our wonderful waiter Jacob. The menu is small (expected to be expanded sometime soon) but good. We started with a salad of local lettuce, grilled asparagus, radishes and dollops of Brie. Simple and delicious. A starter of fried calamari was excellent and crisp. The bread and olive oil for dipping capped off the beginning of our meal. The entrees that followed did not disappoint. We had the garganelli pasta with mushroom bolognese and a lobster roll that came with awesome fries. The pasta had such layered flavors and was so delicious, my husband almost ordered a second. The lobster roll was very good - light on the mayo, just the way I like it - and full of large chunks of sweet lobster. I thought it could have used a bit of salt and pepper, but was close to perfect. We decided not to have dessert, but what we saw coming from the kitchen looked great. Next time! We loved our stay at the Preston House. It is new, immaculate and a very cheerful/helpful staff. The room was wonderful-loved the sheets and pillows. High marks to Leigh at the front desk for her advice on restaurants also. We ended up eating at the highly rated hotel restaurant and ate in the wine cellar which was really fun and the food was incredible. Went to Preston House for dinner and would definitely return to sit outside for cocktails and bites. We dined indoors but inside and out, is the decor is warm and inviting. The service is courteous and efficient. My husband is obsessed with the bread there and would probably return just for that. The menu is diverse without overstretching. For appetizers we had the bacon and the tomato with burrata. The bacon was lovely and generously portioned. The tomato dish was fine but it came with mozzarella, not burrata. For entrees we had the daily fish special and the pici pasta. The ambience really makes this a destination I'd return to, the dishes were okay but not special. read more

I have been living on the east end for over 20 years and often lament the lack of fine dining here. With the exception of Robert's in Watermill, I have never been impressed until now. The waitstaff is exceptional as well, which made our dining experience a perfect night. We started with Brit champagne which was opened expertly by our waiter, Jacob. He chatted pleasantly, and he knew when to stop. Next we had the FOIE GRAS TORCHON, fig mostarda, hazelnut, aged balsamic & toasted brioche. Absolutely delicious, the hazelnut put it into it's own realm of fabulous. Next we shared FETTUCINE VERDE braised duck, cherry tomato, porcini mushroom & pecorino toscano, which was so rich and delicious I dreamed of it all night! The shavings of porcini mushrooms made this dish a masterpiece. Next we sharedDAY BOAT SEA SCALLOPS romanesco, caperberry, almond & white raisin. The scallops were perfectly cooked, which I can honestly say I have never had them cooked so well. Having grown up in East Hampton, I've eaten a lot of scallops. The only negative which I'm reluctant to mention is there was a bit of grit/sand in the scallops. Not enough to ruin the dish or keep me from finishing it. The addition of raisin added a sweetness and texture which perfectly complimented the dish. We closed the restaurant, but were not rushed. The chef made an appearance , I noticed a tattoo of Texas on his left arm which made him endearing to me. Im looking forward to many more dinners at The Preston. read more

This hotel checks all of the boxes - conveniently located within easy driving distance of the Hamptons. Friendly, courteous, over-and-above service with great attention to detail. Spacious, luxurious, well-appointed, modern rooms with huge bathroom, living area (with refrigerator and sink), comfy bed and cozy furnishings / creature comforts including fluffy rugs, soft blankets, and cool coffee table books for adults and children. Their larger suite rooms are perfect for families if you want extra space for your toddler to run around and they will set up a pack n play with linens, pillow and blanket in your room if you mention the need in your booking, so everything is good to go upon your arrival. So nice! And we were happy to learn there's a complimentary breakfast served from 6:30-9:30am in the lobby with an assortment of fresh, continental-style selections that they're more than happy to set up on a tray and deliver to your room for you if you wish. I simply love this hotel. The only concern we've found is that the thermostat in our particular room is a little wonky (on the automatic setting, the temperatures tended to vary wildly from the set point). Also, there's minimal parking to accommodate guests during dinner hours, given the extremely popular restaurant on-site. Maybe this will be remedied once the construction next door is complete? And to be fair, neither has been enough of an inconvenience during our stay to deter our positive sentiments or require assistance with the matters, however if we were staying more than a few days we'd probably inquire about trying to adjust the thermostat. If you're having difficulty finding just the right accommodations in one of the Hamptons areas (as we were), definitely consider this lovely gem. You will be pleasantly surprised by the five star service. P.S. Also of note for families - there's an awesome little aquarium directly across the street and several restaurants just down the way (walking and driving distance) if your kids are a little too rambunctious for the fine-dining downstairs. read more

Stopped in to purchase a $500 gift certificate for my parents as a thank you for my recent wedding but the employee at the hotel told me she couldn't create one because the restaurant was closed. I don't quite understand why business would be turned away or why it would be made out to seem more difficult than what it is (really, why can't a gift certificate be created when the hotel and restaurant are the same business? This isn't rocket science and we're not in the Stone Age). The concept really isn't that complicated; I've been able to acquire restaurant gift certificates from their affiliated hotels before. No. I'm not delaying my trip back home to the city by 4 hours so that I can come back when it's convenient for you. And no, I'm not having you make this impersonal and mail it to me or my parents on my behalf. I'm from Riverhead and my parents live near Preston House. While we still think it stands out like a sore thumb in this town we did have plans to try a meal at the restaurant one day. As my wedding weekend in Greenport approached I thought it was the perfect opportunity to gift them a nice meal out but it's really not worth the trouble. I guess I'm not used to having my money refused. Also, when my husband and I entered the hotel we weren't greeted with a hello or anything nice. It's hysterical to encounter rude behavior in a place like Riverhead! We acquired a gift elsewhere and will most likely keep saying 'we should try Preston House' indefinitely.... Odd behavior and declined business aside, it is strange that the restaurant wasn't even open in the first place. We had plans to go elsewhere in town for lunch (FYI - you can't go wrong with Rendezvous or Tweed's!). It's Spring Break and the town was overrun with tourists visiting the aquarium directly across the street from the hotel and restaurant. Diggers, Cucina, etc were all packed. I give it 2 stars because the staff and service was great and they put in tremendous effort. My lobster roll was dry had no flavor. The pasta was clumpy and the flavor was overwhelming. My aunt ordered the burger; it took 3 times to cook it medium and it came back rare until they cut it in half to cook it. And then it was just like a hockey puck. Lastly, we ordered the dessert strawberry shortcake... I can't even describe it. It was on a hard biscuit with a whipped basil cream. Anyway, I would never go back and eat there but I would definitely go for a drink because the staff were so nice and accommodating. PS - we were not charged for the hockey puck. read more

WE WAITED 50 minutes for our first drink!!!!!!!!!!!! Although the restaurant's food is often very good, the management of this restaurant is terrible. On August 15, 2020, we had a 7:30 dinner reservation. We were seated quickly and our waiter arrived about 5 minutes later to take our drink order; it was down hill after that. We waited 50 minutes for our drinks to arrive, but only after we approached the hostess to tell her our problem. The staff was running around like a bunch of chickens and our waiter seemed to have disappeared for about a half hour. We could not find him anywhere, which is why we finally approached the hostess. The table nearest to us (about 10 feet away) was also having the same problems as us. Once the drinks arrived and our waiter reappeared, we were told that two of the three things we ordered for dinner were no longer available. Our dinner finally arrived after being there for ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES. An absolute disgrace. Our waiter, Jacob, was the saving grace of the night. He was kind and understanding and did the right thing for us. Nothing was his fault; he was clearly working as hard as he could to put out the fires created by the mangement. We later found out from another customer that the place had overbooked --with two hugh parties ( both with open bar privileges) and every table in the place filled. AND ONLY ONE BARTENDER for both parties and the dining tables! VERY POOR PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT. They should be ashamed of themselves. This is not the first time we have experienced problems with the mangement there. In the past, their owner, Jennifer, has been out-and-out rude to us and my guests. I can tell you this - it will be the last time we go there. No more chances for them. They did buy us our drinks, in the end. We did not have to ask; they offered. That was a good mangement decision.
