    Bird nest
    Jaci G.

The Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder was easily our favorite hotel stay during our summer road trip. This place went above and beyond our expectations! With multiple on-site restaurants, a casino, gym, pool, candy shops--you name it, everything was extremely accommodating and made for a relaxing, fun experience. One downside: there weren't enough luggage carts. We had one upon check in, not at check out. Not the end of the world, but something to be aware of. The bigger issue was the state of the balcony. Right outside our sliding glass door was what I can only describe as a "door mat" of bird poop. When we looked up, we saw several swallows' nests above the balcony. While we weren't attacked or anything, it was pretty gross and made it impossible to enjoy the balcony during our stay. Despite that, the overall experience was still fantastic. If management addressed the bird situation and increased the number of luggage carts, this place would be close to perfect. Still highly recommend it for anyone visiting Santa Fe!

Amazing what 10 years between visits can do. This place is now a dump. Hilton should not keep their name on it. The rooms are not as pictured online. I booked and stayed in a suite and it was in bad shape. The hotel and its restaurants are understaffed. The Turquoise Trail Cafe informed us of a 45 min wait for a table, it ended up being 90 minutes. The hostess informed us they only had two servers working that night. The food was mediocre. The hotel staff seem miserable and security is nonexistent, even when requested due to shady characters following individuals. I won't ever stay here again. Save your money and go to any one of the other resorts around Santa Fe.

I used points and booked this nicer location for our final leg of our New Mexico road trip. It was the perfect location to day trip over to Taos, Bandelier, and the hot springs because it's actually about 20 minutes north of Santa Fe. I would definitely not pick this hotel if you don't have a car. We never even stepped foot in the casino. And the staff at the restaurants seemed like they hated their jobs. I also had a minor problem with trying to check out early. I was told I had to call Hilton then told on the phone that a front desk manager would have to help. I got the runaround for sure. Our room was very big and nice, so that service requested was delivered. But I wouldn't stay here again.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights and it wasn't too bad of a stay. This hotel is connected to the buffalo thunder casino so if you are in to gambling, this might be your spot. The hotel does need updates, the hallways run long, the rooms including the suites are a little dated. There are two sides (the casino side rooms and then the rooms on the other side of the building.) They also need to get the food options together. They have one nice restaurant open majority of the time but it's only evenings. Most of the lunch spots were down during my visit. But the bar was up and going. It doesn't help that there is not a lot of food options near the hotel so if you don't have a car you may struggle. Again not much to do without a car so wouldnt recommend if you don't plan on having a rental or your own car.

So we booked the hotel about a week in advance and got confirmation that there were several rooms available the day before. When we got there, the front staff by the name of Carla told us that our room was next to an elevator and as a diamond member that was the only room that they had left. After we asked to speak with the manager, carla came back and told us that she had to downgrade our room and that she could get us a suite that would be away from an elevator. On our way to our anniversary dinner, we found the manager, a lady by the name of Anayeli and she helped us find a room that wasn't a handicapped downgraded room. The next morning when we went to go to the Iguana Café to eat breakfast, there was a line for about half an hour of people waiting to be seated at an empty café. We later found out that they are short staffed and consequently, looking for help/waiters. Throughout the time that we were there, we heard people complain about the service in different locations of the resort. The gift shop was pretty amazing. The pool looked nice, but we never got in because it was pretty crowded. The service was OK if you are persistent about getting help. I almost forgot to tell you that we tried to get bottled water on our floor, but the machine took our money and we had to walk all the way downstairs to Ask for the complementary waters on our first night. Many of these reviews talk about the resort being enormous and having to walk a lot. This is no joke, bring comfortable shoes if you're going to come here because there's a lot of walking just to get to your room.

*visited from Houston* This resort is beautiful! The design was very nice! It is somewhat secluded, you would definitely need a car or use a transportation service to get to downtown and/or airport. There is PLENTY of parking. It is a very walkable resort-views of the mountains were endless. I had a room with a balcony, near the Spa. Room was SPOTLESS. It was very clean and well-kept. Kudos to the housekeeping team and their exceptional cleaning!!! I wish the tv had the Capability for Bluetooth or mirroring from the iPhone. Or I wish the tv had apps like Amazon, Netflix or something; however, the channels were decent (HBO, Food Network, HGTV). The staff wasn't really helpful. There are two shuttles that don't run-I wish shuttles were available for transport to the airport and/or downtown. Instead, they give you information on transportation services, ok. For this hotel to be about 20-25 minutes from the airport; shuttling services would be nice. I utilized the Spa which was pretty pricey, the casino is ok. Restaurants were decent. The grounds could have been kept a little better. The patio area for the Red Sake had ton of trash and bird poop on the chairs and tables. Overall-a nice resort. I would stay here again.

    View from our balcony

We LOVED it here! Clean, spacious rooms with beautiful balconies and views of the mountains. Friendly and attentive staff. We're not big into gambling- unless you count taking an 11-year-old on vacation! The pools were superb. There is an outdoor pool with a hot tub- plus an indoor pool and hot tub in case of rain. Delicious food at the Iguana cafe- with a delightful server. Tons to see and do right in the hotel and a short drive to Santa Fe. We will definitely be returning!

Fun hotel about 15 min from the city. If you have the itch to play, you'll have a great time here. Absolutely love the aesthetic of their exterior and also the snow was quite the site.

So wasn't what we expected, I've always associated the name Hilton with a higher standard of service. But this wasn't the case here. As far as service anyway. We decided to drive for our vacation instead of fly so we could do things at our own pace, ended up in Sante Fe a couple hours early because the Pueblo in Taos was closed due the the eclipse observance 2023. Called ahead to try and check in a couple hours early that was a hard 'no' stated our room would be ready by 4, got there said give us another 30, not happy. Upon making the reservation 2 months in advance requested a room close to the elevator, our room winded up being 1 room from the end of the hallway not happy but heard it could have been even farther upon talking to other guests, lol. As far as the room went bed slept nice, King size even better without the 2 dogs that usually sleep with us!! Not much for pressure as far as the shower goes but it gets you wet. When we left for a day of shopping at the Plaza asked for our room to be serviced was told that wasn't happening, asked for fresh towels at least and that's what they did give us fresh towels and restocked the mini coffee machine. Maybe that's the norm now? There was on on-site Starbucks which I guess was a Starbucks express as the selections were limited and they were out of half the items that they offered. So anyway the casino is accessible from the hotel, a couple of gift shops, a candy store, a couple restaurants that have limited hours, 1 we never saw open and a golf course. In my opinion I expected a better experience for $300 a night but maybe I shouldn't have. Not sure yet. Oh well on to Las Vegas Baby!!

When we drove in, the parking lot was just about full and the space that was available was too small for my truck. The security guard who I wish I could remember his name as he was such a gem, let me know that he will park my truck for me. He had a fabulous Texan accent and he was just the nicest man. He said go on inside and check in and when you come back out, I will park your truck for you. The woman who greeted me inside was so lovely. She said I am so glad you are here! You are our last guest to arrive and I will get you all checked in. It felt like we were in a different time almost, it was so cozy and quaint. Our hotel room itself was perfect. We had two beds and they were so comfortable and the linens were fabulous. The wall hangings and paintings were gorgeous. The bathroom was adorable and had pretty New Mexican tile. Even the carpets and rugs were beautiful. They do have a restaurant and room service. They have a complementary breakfast cooked to order which is something I have never seen before. Unfortunately we were so tired the next day we missed the breakfast, but we will definitely book another stay in this hotel. The reception area is beautiful and has lovely couches and sitting areas. The paperwork in the rooms is extremely thorough and will tell you everything you need to know, from room service to if you have difficulty parking your car to nearby restaurants and sightseeing. I did not read all of the paperwork when I first got to the hotel and in the morning I called for coffee to be delivered to my room. I later saw that coffee is actually set out for guests in the reception area so the woman who brought me the coffee really only did it out of kindness. I definitely felt like this hotel gives five star service.

And they didn't hv any 2 bed rooms available. So I found this place And in that week between Christmas and New Year's we still wanted to catch the Christmas lights and farolitos And if you too are about location, location, location This was perfect If you've ever had to drive to Santa Fe, you know that parking can be a bear -- and it was, with a lot of the main streets blocked off in anticipation of NYE celebrations. The hotel is actually quite a large, sprawling complex, much deeper that what might be assumed when pulling in. We got there mid-afternoon so could park rt in front of our first floor room. I hadn't even thought about that but my creaky knees were happy and quite relieved to only hv to haul my wee bag up 7 steps or so. Check in was easy, if a bit crowded, as a lot of regulars like to show up a bit early too. The doorman was a very polite young man and everyone made us feel welcome. The older gentleman at the counter was a font of information And made sure we knew abt the Happy Hour Short and sweet Whatever you do: try the biscochitos! (The official NM state cookie, fyi - for a reason - when done right, and these definitely are!) Everything was very clean Even with all the Christmas decorations and greenery out There's an excellent restaurant on site And when they say there's "a bit of a kick", and shd you be a wuss like me, order the spicy on the side. Staff was very considerate abt this. And breakfast is pretty good too! And it was so easy to walk to everything, stuff I usually don't get to see bc I'm usually on the other side of town. All in all, a lovely stay

The valets offered a warm welcome that set the tone for our entire stay and the front desk check in was friendly and efficient. In fact, every single staff member we came into contact with was an absolute delight. From the manager who we encountered each afternoon and always took the time to engage with us, to the awesome lady with the funky makeup who served the complimentary afternoon drinks. Everyone we came into contact with was lovely, even the lady bussing tables was a delight. Our room on the 2nd floor was ok, it was very long and narrow and despite having plenty of sq ft, the layout made it feel small. The bathroom was decent and the linens, towels and amenities were a good quality. Each day at 5.30pm the hotel offers complimentary drinks and snacks. We checked it out once; the cocktails, although served with a big smile, were cheap and sugary (as expected). The food (pasta and baked potatoes with fixings, hot dogs and popcorn), wasn't to our taste but many of the guests with children appeared to be making a full dinner out of them, so that is definitely a great feature for families on a budget. The location is really good, no more than a 7 min stroll from everything in the historic center of Santa Fe. I would recommend this hotel for family road trips and business travelers on a tight budget. The staff make this hotel a place you should consider if you're ever coming to Santa Fe.

But where? Reviewers touted the Inn Of The Turquoise Bear.....and they were right. Pros: - Location: Central. Just south of the downtown area and a 15 minute walk to Canyon Road. - Exterior: A sprawling property in a residential neighborhood. Several smaller buildings seem to have been added over the (many) years to the main building seen on most photos of the property. - Interior: Like going back 100 years. Things were fixed, of course...especially in public spaces...but you might feel as if you're in a living museum. - Our Room (Witter Byner): Large and rambling. More than enough room for 2 people plus a balcony overlooking the front of the property. Very comfortable. I could live there for a month if we didn't mind going up and down 15 stairs to the main floor. One interesting aspect: The bathroom. It was very nice and fully equipped, but separate from our room and down 5 stairs. That wasn't a problem during the day, but a few nights were an adventure - Breakfast: Unreal. Everything was homemade with great taste. The buffet portion had sliced fruit, granola, juices, pastries and yogurt. The hosts and kitchen staff had 3-5 entrees available each day. I rarely tried those since I filled up on the buffet, but my wife ate one every day and only had good things to say. Service at the community table was gracious and unhurried with lots of interesting conversation. - Amenities: A 1-2 hour Happy Hour every day starting at 430 or 5 PM. Fresh cookies, fruit, tea and jug water were available all day (coffee from 630-10 AM). Umbrellas. Plenty of smiles. - Hosts: Everyone was very friendly, helpful, informative and even charming. Special thanks to Aileen (sp?). - Housekeeping: Effective, efficient and unobtrusive. - Parking: Sufficient. The large courtyard in front of the of the property provided enough room for cars in the 11 room B&B. - Price and Value: Reasonable. It's not cheap, but as in most cases you get what you pay for. We'd heartily recommend the Inn Of The Turquoise Bear, but make reservations well in advance.

During our most recent stay, our vehicle was one of at least three that were broken into with many very large/heavy items stolen overnight while parked in the hotel's paid parking lot. The lack of security measures, whether cameras, patrols, or staff presence, was disappointing and left us feeling unsupported after the incident. What was even more frustrating was management's response. When the answer to multiple vehicle break-ins is as we were told by the GM - there's nothing we can do and that cameras don't deter theft or help identify thieves - it's time for us to stay somewhere else. We understand that crime can happen anywhere, but guests paying for parking should reasonably expect the property to take security seriously and make an effort to protect them. What makes this especially difficult is that we've always loved this property. The hotel has a historic charm, a great location that makes it easy to explore Santa Fe on foot, and while the rooms aren't luxury accommodations, they always felt comfortable and familiar - like a home away from home. Through the years, the staff has consistently been friendly and welcoming. That's what makes this review so disappointing to write. What was once a 5-star experience for our family has dropped to about a 3-star experience because we no longer feel confident that our vehicle and belongings are safe while staying here.
