I had been a long time regular here under the previous ownership. Admittedly I hadn't been back in years. Mostly the pandemic took me away from here and I just hadn't returned. Plus hearing some people say the food had become inconsistent made me hesitate. But reading up on it today and learning about the new owner, it was time to see if they could win me back. They have. Compared to what I used to get here on the buffet, the tandoori chicken now seems to have more flavor. More of it is definitely hotter spice, but I did notice a fruity tang as well. I'm not complaining. I used to eat the tandoori chicken here regularly and I consider this upgraded. The vegetable pakora stood out. That dish definitely improved. It had a great crispiness and robust seasoning without being too overpowering. That got a second helping. I used to eat the pakora here all the time and I'd pick this over what I used to get. The paneer makhani tasted more like a korma sauce to me. It was more cream-based than tomato. I'm good with that because I love korma. You may judge accordingly. The chicken tikka masala was a little more basic to me. But it's a basic dish in general. Nothing really wrong with it, but it wouldn't be memorable to experienced Indian food lovers. The mango lassi used to be a little thin and more sweet than fruity. Now it's thicker and more of a mango taste. Upgrade. I also used to love the kheer here. Somehow I think I love it more now. Another upgrade. My taste for Indian has evolved over the years. I've just eaten it a lot and I've tried a lot more local places. There are places that are serving more authentic food out there. This is still slightly tailored to more novice eaters I believe. It always was in my mind. But that's not a bad thing. They're back in my Indian rotation. read more

I have seen atleast 5 tables occupied when I visited them both times and the people enjoyed the food. But it didnt work out for me. It was lack of spices and no kick or hot. The buffet at Himalayan was very pleasantly surprising. It took me back to childhood memories of classic Indian buffets with beautiful decor and music. Their options included many vegetarian choices that were reminiscent of recipes from my South Indian roots; string beans and potato, sautéed cabbage, spiced pan-fried cauliflower, Yum! The multiple chicken dishes were also very good especially the Chicken 65. In addition to basmati, I was overjoyed to find both naan and idili! To top it off there was a plethora of chutneys, pickles, and sauces to add to the already delicious food. The young man who hosted and waited on me was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. I was here with a friend Wednesday March 12 from about 6:45 to 8:15 in the evening. The first table we were sat at was very wobbly, so we had to ask to move to a sturdier one. Sadly, all the window shades were closed and so the room we were sat in felt a bit shut-in, and hot. We were the only ones in the restaurant as far as we could tell. We received some complimentary naan, which was warm, fresh, and very tasty. This was the best part of dinner, and so we ended up ordering a second garlic naan. We each ordered the mango lassi, along with Chicken Pakora to share as an appetizer. I got the Coconut Soup and the Chicken Tikka Masala and my friend got the Lamb Roganjosh. The service was very slow, and we got our entrees at about 8:00. Overall, the food wasn't bad. The mango lassi was underwhelming; I was expecting a very good mango lassi, but it was the least fresh-tasting part of the meal, and almost wasn't sweet enough (usually, mango lassis are almost too sweet for me). The Chicken Pakora was a small portion, and my friend commented that it was hardly distinguishable from "McDonald's chicken". I had doubts about the quality of the batter and the meat. The Coconut Soup was interesting, and I think I'd try it again. The entrees were good, but not great; they were warm and filling, but nothing stood out and impressed me. However, the choices are mainly vegetarian on the day that I was there on the buffet and the food was served on paper plates and plastic cups. I'm not sure if this was because it was a special buffet for Valentine's Day or if this is Every day. But worth mentioning if you were expecting the same buffet as the previous owners. What a great surprise this place was. Stumbled upon it when going to the pinball game room and put it on my list to go back to and I'm sure glad I did. The food is so good! Perfect spice, perfect flavor and perfect portion sizes. We had the appetizer sampler platter, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. The server first bought us a salad and a plate of pita. The salad was interesting, some veggies with what tasted like ranch dip in the center of the plate. The complimentary pita is so good. I've never been to an Indian restaurant that offers free pita. We were the only people in the restaurant surprised by that because I heard another family call the server over to let her know they hadn't ordered pita. We started with the Himalayan special appetizer. I enjoyed everything on it, but one thing that looked like battered and fried paneer. Not sure what it was, but just left that on the plate. Next we had the chicken curry, chicken tikka masala and the chicken biryani. The server asked what spice level and I was hesitant to say medium, because I've been at other restaurants that lessened the spice level and then it seemed like the flavor was just too bland. Not the case here. Not too spicy and still very flavorful. Oh yeah, we also had the garlic naan. So, so good! Their naan is light and delicate. Haven't had naan like that before or nearly as good. Not many options in nonveg appetizers. drumstick was a total fail in starters, coloured in red (to the owner- mixing red color will not make it kabab or tandoori) Similarly not many options in the main course, Chicken tikka masala (which only Americans ll like) and one mutton entree. Ever see food and when you eat it say "It looks better than it tastes"? That was pretty much our experience here. I don't know if they are catering to your garden variety Main Line WASP here, but the food was very bland. The butter chicken had no flavor. No flavor, no heat. The Tandoori chicken was dry. Some of the other food like the pumpkin curry was just gross. All and all there weew about 3 decent items on the menu. A horrific experience that could have been one of our best in the East Coast as the food was tasty!!! It started with a nice welcome salad plate for each diner, great that they served it because there was no sign of food for next one hour!!! The nightmare started when our order started arriving... 1. One less plate was given. 2. The second food item was served after 20 minutes of the first one. 3. No chutney or onion with tandoori chicken. 4. Curries were served without any sign of breads!!! 5. We started eating curries with the complimentary rice while waiting for the breads. 6. We ordered a total of 7 breads, only 4 were served and 3 were cancelled without our knowledge!!! 7. We were literally waiting for the garlic naan, with curry getting cold in our plate and we eventually came to know that they have NOT prepared any of the garlic naan for us. While going through all this ordeal, we discussed among ourselves that it could be because of the weekend rush but what made it worse is that nobody came once to our tables and expressed any concerns about the delay and the mismanagement with our order. We thought that we will ask for some compensation/discount against this biggest nightmare of our dinning history but guess what there was more to this nightmare!!! When we expressed our discontent along with a praise for the taste of the food (which we liked honestly) and asked for some kind of discount as a compensation, the lady at the counter said that "you do the dishes that are at your table and your food will be free"... This was the last disgrace that was destined for us yesterday night!!! read more

A friend took us to Himalayan, an Indian buffet in a Malvern shopping center. Their interior's clean, pleasant, and decorated in Indian art. Thankfully - even for a Friday - it wasn't crazy crowded, since we noticed it was a bit warm inside. Himalayan's dishes are as unique as they are lovely. They're the only area buffet with Indo-Chinese selections that I know of. Their noodles were sweet, and my ever favorite chana saag, delish. Everything was restocked often; our party of seven didn't leave hungry. If you like spices, don't forget to toss in a few fresh, hot green peppers to add zest to your meal - and grow hair on your chest! Service picked up plates as we cleared them, and provided a pitcher of water for our table. Their self-serve mango lassi was a surprise, the perfect, sweet ending to calm the fire in our stomachs. The food here is delicious, but the service is terrible. Twice I have tried to place an order online, only to drive 30 minutes to get there and be told that they can't make my order. They claim there is no chef there, nor a manager on staff. Not sure who is preparing the buffet, but don't try to order takeout. They then tell me the the online ordering is through a 3rd party and I have to call them to get my money back. I'm told the refund will take 24-48 hours. They did not call me to tell me they couldn't fulfill the order, even though I provided my phone number, so I wasted an hour and have to wait to be reimbursed. I'm sad because I do love the food there, that's why I go out of my way to get it. But I can't keep patronizing a restaurant that doesn't take care of their customers better than this. read more

This was one of the best Indian restaurants I have eaten at. When I walked in, the owner greeted us in a friendly manner. We placed a to go order and it took 15 mins to prepare. We told the owner we were new to the area and he included several free side dishes as a welcome. We will be eating here again because of the great food and the excellent service. This used to be our favorite Indian restaurant. They are under new ownership and it was quite obvious on our recent visit. The food was nowhere near as tasty. The air conditioning must have been broken. The pitcher of water we were given had no ice and was room temperature. The man we are assuming was the chef had sweat through his shirt and was just milling around by the buffet. These owners should hire the former staff to bring this place back to greatness. read more

THIS IS A MUST GO! It's been a while since I've been so excited to eat Indian food. I've been here a total of 6 out of 14 work days. This place is such a steal! Lunch buffets are $11 flat and there is just a large range of food choices both meat and vegetarian. There is normally 4-5 vegetarian cooked dishes, as well as, an extensive salad bar. Please view photos for a sample of some of the dishes they serve at the buffet. They also do buffet take out at very reasonable prices. A white container of food is $6.99 and you can fill it however you want. They won't micromanage or inspect your container like Chinese buffets do. (There are other sized containers). As for the food, the chicken Tikka Marsala with the naan and/or yellow biryani rice is a MUST TRY! Caution it's mildly spicy. The chicken is never dry and the sauce is so flavorful. Food here is always fresh and replenished often. I've lost track of everything I've ate due to the new selections ever time, but the Tikka Marsala is a staple. There is Marsala tea next to the naan. Honestly I'd like to give this spot a 3.5! They accommodated my work group of 8 with short notice and the service was bangin'! They left pitchers of water for us on the tables to self service and were spiffy about getting used plates off the table. The buffet items were all just ok. I'm used to eating Indian food and there's usually at least one gravy I really like for which I return for seconds and thirds. Here the best dish was the naan and everything else was just ok. No gravy was addictive. Even the desserts were mediocre. I wouldn't return here again outside of works functions since nothing was right for my palate; however, it's worth mentioning many of my co-workers loved the food. read more

Vegetable Jal Frozi looked like frozen vegetables (or was cut like that); lots of oil. Navaratan Korma was much creamier (and oilier) than before the sale; not bad but not great and very different; much less vegetable oriented. I didn't care much for the sauce on the Chicken Makhani, the chicken seemed to be good quality though not generous in quantity. Naan wasn't bad but was drier than before. What a delightful find! My mother and I visited the restaurant by chance. We were looking for a different restaurant but it could not be found. We pulled into the parking lot in order to get our bearings, but ended up with dinner instead. Ive never been so thankful that I could not find a particular restaurant! We were seated right away and our water cups were filled. As we looked through the extensive menu, the waiter returned with a complimentary appetizer. Not only was it a full portion of the app I'd been on the verge of ordering, it was delicious. Aloo Chat is layers of puff pastry with chick peas and spices. It is very similar to Samosa Chat, one of my favorite small plates. We decided to share the smallest combination platter and an order of palak paneer. The combination came with moist tandoori chicken, a vegetable dish, and a lamb dish, plus rice. We added naan with cauliflower and ended up with enough food for the two of us to eat our fill for that night and for lunch the next day. The cost of all of this food? $45. I've spent that per person at an Indian restaurant and not been as happy with my meal or the service. If I lived in this area I'd make the Himalaya a regular spot. read more
