Came back recently to celebrate my wife's bday and we stuck with the usuals. Chicken tikka masala, chicken momos, garlic naan, and cheese naan. All of it was delicious. I like their chicken a lot because they don't over do it with the sauce. And I really like the naan. When I took it back home as some leftover, it crisped up perfectly and had great flavor. The momos are the item my wife loves the most and glad to say they are still great. I did order a mango lassi and it was tasty. The server was attentive and good came out pretty quickly. I liked the little flowers they had on the tables. Wish it had a tad bit more volume but can't complain. Great spot to grab a lowkey tasty dinner. Wish other places made momos like them. read more

Overall 3.5/5, but will bump it to a 4/5. Our team had our bi-annual dinner at Masala Indian Cuisine last Tuesday and we ordered a variety of different entrees and drinks. MANGO LASSI - 5 Pretty sizable glass, but I thought it was way too sweet so I didn't even finish half of the drink. However, the texture and consistency was on point. ASSORTED BREAD - 11 We got this because we wanted a lot of bread for our table of 5, but personally I only enjoyed the garlic naan out of the three bread options (garlic naan, butter naan, and roti). CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA - 20 The chicken tikka masala was tangy and creamy, but also much too sweet. I wish they let the sweetness of tomatoes shine through, but they definitely added a lot of sugar in the curry. The chicken was cooked well, at least. BUTTER CHICKEN - 20 The butter chicken is a bit more orange in color compared to the chicken tikka masala, and also much more savory and even creamier. Personally, I liked this one more, and I had no complaints with the flavor. I would recommend this if you're looking for a staple. PALAK PANEER - 19 I am a huge palak paneer fan and so is one of my teammates. The curry was a deep evergreen color with lots of paneer chunks. It was spiced pretty nicely and the texture was more smooth than chunky. I personally really enjoyed this and would recommend it for the spinach and cheese lovers! CHICKEN MOMO - 12.50 Each order came with 10, which meant 2 per person! The chicken momos were delicious, and I enjoyed them. This would be a great appetizer to share with a group, but getting it for yourself as an entree is not a bad idea. People also enjoyed the LAMB ROGAN JOSH, but I personally didn't eat much of it enough to comment. There are plenty of beer, wine and cocktail options that my teammates enjoyed. Four entrees, a bread basket, and an appetizer was more than enough for the five of us, and we didn't pay a pretty penny for all of it. The food was fine for the most part, but some missed the mark. If I were to return, I would order the butter chicken, palak paneer, chicken momo, and garlic naan for the group. read more

Great little Indian/Nepalese restaurant in a strip mall in the downtown area of McLean. There is plenty of seating inside and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good- the chicken vindaloo had just the right amount of kick and I could have really have had a second portion. The toasted roti chips at the beginning were a great appetizer. Pleasant, accommodating, efficient service in an open, modern minimalist setting makes this place one of the better and, I think, most underrated Indian/Nepali restaurants in McLean. - Lychee martini: nice and light, balanced, not too sweet but definitely taste the lychee - Mango lassi: decent, a bit sweeter than I like (lassi should have some tang from the yogurt, imo) but hubby and my mom thought it was perfect - Samosa chaat: excellent flavors, classic chaat flavor. Chole could be a bit less...soupy but the flavors are all there. - Aloo saag: FLUFFY beautiful texture. Good balance of saag and aloo. Saag tasted fresh. - Aloo tama: never seen this one on a menu so I was intrigued and, ultimately, Very pleasantly surprised This has bamboo shoots and potato. Best at a medium spice level. Can't really describe the taste as anything other than "different in a good way". If you are bored of the usual stuff on a North Indian restaurant menu check this dish out! - Chicken saag: hubby really enjoyed the light and fluffy texture of the saag and, the dish as a whole. Great portion size, flavorful, and prompt service... what more can one ask for?! We came on a rainy Saturday afternoon and was immediately seated. We had the veggie samosas, which was wayyy bigger than we imagined. These were fried perfectly, with a great amount of moistness right in the middle. We then opted to order the garlic basil naan which was absolutely scrumptious. I could definitely eat an order of this all by my lonesome and still crave more! Was really excited to try this place, but it was a let down. The food by no means is bad though. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, made hot for the spice level. The waitress did tell me it does have a sweet finish, because she knew I was in the middle of deciding between medium and hot for the spice. Ive been eating Indian for years, and know well enough the tikka dishes vary greatly across restaurants , but this one... was weird. It didn't have a lot of flavor, and the only flavor that was extremely present was the sugar they put in this dish. If you're expecting to get your traditional 'savory' style tikka masala dish, this ain't it. Steer clear. If you're looking for a different version of tikka masala that you've never tried before, maybe. Garlic naan and the rice were excellent though, and the service was great. read more

The food at Masala is excellent. My grandson and I each ordered an entree, plus the Garlic Naan. I got the sizzling salmon entree which was seasoned to perfection. Ewww! Ordered on Uber Eats. I found short white hairs in the food. I'm not sure what it is but it looks like dog hairs. Did they drop my food on the floor and then pack it? The naan was burnt, the "chutney" is just jam/jelly (overpriced) and they're too cheap to send utensils even when requested. My friend suggested meeting here for dinner because her office is nearby and I'm glad that we did. The food was delicious! The portions look small when you first see them, but looks are deceiving! There were three of us and we ordered three dishes: butter chicken, goat biryani and chicken tikka masala + assorted bread, and there was food leftover. The chicken was actually whole white meat chunks but not dry because of the yummy sauces/seasoning. The basil + garlic naan bread was unexpectedly delish. The servers are attentive and constantly refill your water. If you check in with Yelp, you can get a free mango lassi, but make sure you show them the coupon BEFORE you order--the size is much smaller than the regular one on the menu. read more

My friend and I went here for lunch on a Saturday. The place was empty except for us. We ordered a bottle of wine, butter chicken, dal Bukhara (black lentil) and Baigan Bharta (eggplant curry) and a basket of assorted bread. The dal was spectacular. Creamy, perfect spice level at medium and very flavorful. The eggplant was our second favorite. It had more of a kick. The peas and slivers of ginger with the eggplant was divine. The butter chicken was okay. It wasn't bad, just a bit sweeter than we prefer. The best thing in the bread basket was the garlic naan. It was really outstanding. Crispy and chewy in all the right places. Plenty of garlic and ghee on it. Next time we would just get the garlic naan. Server was attentive and nice and our food came hot, but took about 20 minutes. It was no big deal as we were not in a rush. Only a couple other people came in. I hope this place stays alive. We would definitely go back. I will take pictures next time. read more

We were visiting and just wanted a decent Indian meal and the reviews brought us to Masala Indian Cuisine. The staff is great to start with, all smiles and nice call people but it just goes downhill from there. After taking our order staff never came once to check on us. We got vegetable momos which was good but the sauces serves lacked the flavor and Indian would expect or a Nepalese would. We got chicken Sekuwa which was pretty good or I should say the award winner for the night. Got dal bukhara and kadhai chicken as main course. Dal lacked flavor and salt and I definitely can say Indian cook better at home. Kadhai paneer was still good. We also got goat Biryani which was super spicy when we ordered Medium but to ruin it all all goat pieces were super chewy and felt a bit gamey making it seem almost like lamb. Had to ask them to do something about it to which they didn't charge us for it, well we couldn't eat it anyways. We ordered peshawari naan which was oddly sweet but butter naan was soft and nice, full marks for that. Now the worse part of our experience, we requested for some more snack which they serve complementary in the beginning as our son loved them and they served it after all our meal arrived and also charged us for it (who does that). To top it off, we requested for some onions and greem chutney and just got maybe an onion and half a lemon but no green chutney but got charged $5 for that. Never seen that for any Indian restaurant. Overall, I'll give it a pass if you feel like getting true Indian food. read more

Especially I appreciate that the dishes were not too oily and they had lots of vegetarian options. Their Lentil Dahl and Chana Masala were my favourite. I also liked their Saag dish. We ordered delivery from Grubhub. We had: Chicken momos - I've never had these before and it was easily the best thing tonight. The chicken had a slight curry flavor and the wrappers were delicately formed. perfect. Vegetarian Samosa - these were really delicious- large, fried pocket of deliciousness! I had a side of mango chutney and these were divine! Chicken Tikka Masala - good, though not as spicy as I'd like. Butter chicken - ok, the sauce tasted almost exactly like the tikka sauce and the chicken chunks were a bit too large, so when you cut them up, there wasn't quite enough sauce and they seemed a bit dry. Goat cheese naan - a bit dry, but that could have been due to the takeout time. All naan is best when first served from the oven! read more

Deliciously tasty with plenty of parking. It's also worth noting that the dining room was spotless and walled in glass, giving it an open and airy feel. This was our first time here, and we stopped off for dinner with some friends who are there every week. I enjoyed the Chilli (their spelling, not mine) Chicken appetizer. Next time I might make do with that and an order of Naan. However, this time, we all shared this as one of the appetizers, and I had Chicken Tikka Masala as my main dish. That is my bellwether dish for Indian restaurants. In this case, it was delightful, not the best, and far from the worst, I've had. Masala Indian Cuisine is located in the Langley Shopping Center and offers an extensive menu of non-vegetarian and vegetarian appetizers, soups, salads, tandoori items, chicken/lamb/seafood platters, momos, biryani, desserts, and a kids menu. The hubs and I came here to check out their lunch buffet, which had a limited selection. Out of the items that we've tried, the Peshawari Chicken Tikka was the favorite, as it was wonderfully seasoned, and the mix of the spices and the heavy coating on each of the chunks of chicken was delicious! We were not impressed with the other dishes, especially the tandoori chicken and the naan bread that came with the lunch, as they were both a bit on the dry end. I wished there was more butter brushed on the naan. The customers also take it into their own hands on where they would like to start at the buffet - since there are 'two openings' at the divider that separates the dining area and the buffet, some chooses to cut the line and go for the main entrees, as others start at the salad/appetizer section. Also, mind that there is a dip in the floor around the buffet. This place seems to be a local favorite, as there were people waiting in their cars for this place to open up to get first dibs in the line! Salt, salt and more salt is the only way the food at this place can be described. We ordered in the day before the New Years. Used Grubhub to get 2 curries (chicken vindaloo and goat curry) with regular and garlic naan. Took more than an hour to get the food and when it finally arrived nobody could eat it. Both curries were so salty that it was impossible to eat. $15 and $17 dollars for three pieces of meat and 3 quarter potatoes. What! Naan's were ok hence the extra star. What gives with Indian food in the Fairfax? Why are there so few good options? So wanted this place to rock but unfortunately not. Any recommendations welcome? read more
