Article in MLive said this is the best donut in Michigan and its been in the same family for 100 years. Got to give it a try. Again, this is a 100 years old family business, Cash or business checks only btw. They make yeast and cake donut and have typical shapes you see in other places. All very good, bigger size than average. They also have a crescent donut which looks like an empanada. (See pictures). I usually don't get cake donut because the ones from Tim Horton are gross and dry. But Hinkley do it right . They are tender in the inside and the taste like a muffin. read more

They like to take time off and post a small hand written sign on the door that says "closed for annual February break". I watched multiple people pull in, get out their car go to the door and leave. Very rude especially when most of them were elderly in this very cold weather. They don't post that they are closing on their Facebook page or on their webpage. Both say they are open normal hours. You would think they would care about customers be respectful and inform them. Not so much!! read more

That's a 5 star Michigan establishment. Thoroughly enjoyed. Hadn't heard of it, then got a few. Omg when they're warm still! Wonderful. And the frostings, perfection. They're classic donuts, with a tinge of Midwest to them (which is to say more dense with smaller cakeys). So good, so well prepared. Ambiance is come in, order, leave. Cash only. You don't get to be shaped like a construction barrel without eating some deliciousness over the course of a lifetime. And in the course of this lifetime, I have developed an especially passionate love for burgers, beers, and...... DONUTS!!!! Took a drive out on a short donut tour and Hinkley was my first stop. When you see people lined up, I always take that as a good sign. If you're looking for aesthetics, this is not the place for you. It's a vintage building with a vintage presentation of their donuts. But I promise you, if you take Chocolate Rd around the corner, you are going to find deliciousness well worth the drive. They are known for their chocolate crescent so I grabbed one of those, a vanilla creme, and a couple of glazed donuts holes. Standard glazed is the one I use as the baseline for judging one donut championship contestant against the other and theirs was perfect. It was light, sweet, and perfectly glazed. The crescent and vanilla cream were more dense than I typically like but the their vanilla cream was so well made. You could tell it was made in-house. Overall I was very happy with the experience and had not regrets driving so long and far for a donut. read more

I was working at a facility in the Jackson area and someone brought in doughnuts for the crew. When the workers heard they were from Hinkley Bakery, we immediately took a break so everyone could get their favorite doughnut before they got snatched up. I chose a crescent with cream cheese frosting that was absolutely heavenly. It was fresh, crisp and had a beautiful texture. If I work in that area again, I will definitely be eagerly awaiting a wonderful Hinkley doughnut. read more

I do have to admit that the donuts are not as good as they used to be. But when your donuts are at 100 and everybody else's are at nine, even not being as good as they used to be is delicious. These are the best donuts in all of Michigan. read more

I live 2.5 hours away and have come here twice when I'm in the area. These donuts are amazing, there's something about the dough. The custard filled, cake donuts with chocolate, blueberry ones (both glazed and frosted), walnut fritter, and apple fritter are the best. Also, the staff is super friendly and helpful both times I've been here. The prices are reasonable too. read more

A Jackson staple since 1913, this little old house made into a bakery is one of the reasons why Jackson is so great. Each morning at 5:15 am, their doors open and wonderful smells escape the front door. They're known for their crescent donuts with frosting on top. Today we bought a sampling that included carrot cake, cinnamon, the well known blueberry and chocolate. Their sprinkles is a favorite among the kid crowd and their donut holes are easily poppable while driving.
