I loved working with Lauren. From the first time I emailed her, she was so responsive and also super friendly and easy to deal with, which put my mind at ease. She had no problem taking the time to answer questions, or queries that I had - whether over email or in person when we did my trial, and on top of all that, she's really, really talented. In all honesty, I was a little nervous even booking hair and makeup as I'm from the UK and we tend to be a bit more conservative with makeup than Americans! When I went for my trial I wasn't even sure if I wanted the fake eyelashes, but thought (since it was the trial and all) I would give them a go. I'm so glad that I did - Lauren applies them one at a time for a really natural, but at the same time dramatic, look. And the airbrush foundations she uses is the stuff of legends - stayed on all day (on a very very humid, rainy day) without me even feeling it. The overall look was perfect for me - still pretty light and natural, but definitely enhancing everything in all the right ways. I know that Lauren really listened to what I wanted, but also she and Kelly (who looked after my wedding party's hair) asked all the right questions to get a sense for my style and what I'd be comfortable with - taking into account my dress, the venue, my personal style etc. I'd recommend Lauren and Kelly to anyone - I just wish I was getting married again so that I could have them make me look that good all over again. I had already reached out to several different people and businesses before I found Lauren. I found some of them quite inflexible on packages (e.g. wouldn't take a booking for fewer than five people), some of them over expensive, some took a long time to get back to me, and some were just business-like to the point of being brusque (it's a wedding after all, I want to work with people who seem friendly and excited for me). They were both great to work with, showed up on time, and were very accommodating in making sure I really loved what they had done, and fixed it if I had any hesitations. First of all, I am a super-busy middle school teacher/girls athletic coach/student council sponsor/No Place for Hate sponsor who got engaged in January and decided to book my hair and make-up appointment the day before my April Bridal portraits. I was in a bind and spent more time in my classroom than I did planning for the pictures. After searching on Yelp, I came across Hint of Shimmer and saw the great reviews and thought I would give it a try. I have never had my make-up professionally applied, and I never really wear much make-up. So, I was pretty excited/nervous to have this done for the photos that I'd be sharing with friends and family for my special day. I did go on Pinterest ahead of time and pick out a few pictures of celebrities that I liked. When I arrived, I met Lauren. She was simply amazing and welcoming, and listened to what I wanted. I showed her a picture of the celebrity look I was going for and she matched it perfectly. The eyelashes were my favorite part! She applied individual eyelashes and this really made the photos pop. I heard about Lauren through a friend of mine, and I decided to try her out for my wedding. I tried the usual Google searching, and was coming up short between artists that seemed to nickel-and-dime for everything or I just didn't like their style. I wasn't entirely sure what look I was going for, but i knew none of the ones that I found were it. I met with Lauren for a trial, and it was awesome! Like I said, I didn't have a "vision" of what I wanted to look like, but I knew some general things. All I had to do was mention the wedding colors, time, and the general ideas I had in mind, and Lauren got right to work. She was great about checking in with me to see if I was happy with the direction my makeup was taking, and she wasn't at all pushy. If I wanted to try something, she was more than willing to do whatever I asked. At the end of the trial, I was completely wowed by what Lauren had come up with. It exceeded my expectations. I was pretty stressed about my look, since I wasn't totally sure what I wanted, but Lauren did a great job on my makeup and putting me at ease. The day of went just as smoothly, and Lauren worked fast to recreate the look that we had come up with during the trial. Again, I was totally wowed. I also loved the fact that it didn't feel like my makeup was applied with a trowel. It was really light, which was great since my wedding was outside in Texas in September. Lauren was amazing to work with. She is very organized and was great at just communicating over email. She was also accommodating for any tweaks made the day of the wedding. I was nervous about choosing a makeup artist for myself and my bridesmaids because it's difficult to find someone who understands how to work with different asian eye shapes and skin tones. I had difficulty finding anyone who had asian brides in their portfolio, but I was recommended to Lauren by my hairstylist, Tammie Garza, so I went with it. I had a morning wedding so she & Tammie (on a separate review) arrived at my house early at 6:45AM to setup everything. I was running late but I never heard a complaint from them. Lauren is such a sweet lady with pleasing personality. On my makeup trial, she asked what type of look I want to achieve. After showing her just 1 photo I got from a bridal magazine, she did her magic on me! I looked so different in a good way. I never looked that good before using other professional makeup artists on my brother's wedding & other special occasions. She was also open to feedback. On my wedding day, my makeup was even better than the trial run! My husband & I really fell in love with my hair & makeup. Most of our guests called me a 'living doll'. The wives of my colleagues thought that I'm still young! Now, that's a real compliment! Lauren also did the makeup of my mother, mother-in-law, & matron-of-honor. They all looked so blooming! I worked with Lauren for the 2013 Marine Corps ball this past weekend and I could not have been happier. Lauren is wonderful to communicate with via e-mail in setting up a makeup session for my engagement photos. Unfortunately, I was running pretty late from coming into town but she was still very willing to accommodate. My only comment is that I felt the more natural makeup look I was going for turned out to be about 10% more dramatic than I wanted. This was easily fixed by toning down my lip color and adding some blending with my fingertips in the car mirror. Overall, Lauren was very nice and her prices are affordable as well. While the makeup artist did a very nice job on my makeup, the hairstylist was absolutely awful. The first attempt was drooping before she even finished it, and the second try, she did not let me see the back, which horrified me when I saw it in the pics. I could cry, I brought my only daughter down the aisle, and my hair looked like I had just gotten out of bed. Lauren was the best makeup artist I've had the experience to work with. I've been in a number of weddings and have never been as pleased with the make up as I was with the way Lauren did it. She didn't make me look over done or under done and really considered my face, my dress, my hair and the venue when she did the make up. She did a trial run and then we did make up for my bridals and the wedding and each time it was flawless. She even re-did one side of my face for my bridals (and I was still on time) because my skin a little dry. The make up stays on beautifully as well. My bridals were out side mid August (in TX which is about 100 degrees). I had sweat dripping from every part of me but the make up stayed perfectly. I did get airbrushing for that main purpose and I do believe it is worth every penny. She also did the MOG, MOB and all the bridesmaid's makeup. My mother got a lot of compliments and I though everyone looked flawless. I also liked that she made sure to ask how to do the make up for my 15 year old cousin who was also a bridesmaid, and she did age appropriate. She was professional and prompt and also great at getting back to me (or my mother) whenever we had questions. Her prices were extremely reasonable as well. She is also just a genuinely nice person. She is also flexible in her schedule - I had to start getting ready at 6:00 am for my bridals and she was able to do it.
