It's so hard to find somebody in the auto repair world that you can trust. Well at Hios, you can rest assured that Jimmy isn't going to do you dirty. Jimmy is a Greek man; but that's not to say anything except, you will hear him speaking in native tongue a lot of the time, and that wont mean he's trying to rip you off. But my guess is, when you bring your car here, you know what kind of condition you are bringing it to him. He wants to get paid, but I never felt like he was ripping me off, or taking advantage of me because I'm a woman. He's a cool guy, and he always wants to help. I took my car in to get it checked out and they told me I could wait a few months before having to do the repairs. They were extremely honest with me a single woman, when they could have easily taken advantage of me. I was so impressed and will recommend them to all my friends and neighbors. John and his team work with care and heart. We have two old Volkswagens (22 and 18 years old). Some jobs are expensive, and some jobs are very inexpensive. When a suspension job was really, really expensive John said, "I don't think you really need this, but don't go on any long trips." They offer a pick up and delivery service when necessary (we're not far away). I'm very impressed and happy with the service I received from Hios. They diagnosed the problem immediately, ordered the necessary parts, and had my car back to me quickly. They even gave me a ride home after I dropped it off, and delivered my car to my house when the work was complete, while I was at my office. They left my car in an abandoned lot. I was charged with abandoning a motor vehicle after being told the owner would call me back and provide me with an estimate (but never did) for six weeks. Tired of waiting, I demanded to speak with someone, and a worker gets on and says the car wasn't worth fixing (I asked why and he said it needed a battery and brakes - the Lexus car is worth $6k btw) and the owner would call me back when he finishes up with another customer. He never did. Thankfully a friend suggested I use his mechanic (who fixed the car immediately)and that they would pick the car up. After checking on the car which was parked on HIOS lot the entire time, my friend told me they didn't see it where I told them it was parked. Hios moved my car to an abandoned lot. Luckily, it wasn't stolen, and luckily, I was cleared in court this morning. read more

These guys are patient, reasonable, and willing to listen. My 20 year old car has issues and they took the time to diagnose and fix them. When I lost the gasket for my transmission they filled it, referred me to a transmission place, and refused to take money. Same when I came in low on oil. When you are looking to buy a car he has you bring it in and they will check it out and not take any money. This is their standard policy. When I did need a new starter they first tried to clean the ground on the battery and checked other components to ensure it really needed replacing, then did it in a compressed timeframe as I had to pick up a child. They may not be perfect, but I'm not sure what more you could ask for in terms of friendliness, reasonable price, etc. I've compared them to others in the area and I will always go back to them. read more

I called in the morning asking about the price for a tune up on my car. I was asked to bring the car by in the afternoon which I did. Once there, the owner just blabbed and blabbed and could not give me a straight price he also kept walking away like he could not be bothered to talk to talk to me. Finally, he told me he would have to look at the car. I responded that it was outside as I was asked to bring it this afternoon so he could look at it. He told me that he had no time to look at it. Secondly, there is no place to park your car anywhere. I'm sure he has done good work for other folks but if you act like you could care less about the customer then the customer will go elsewhere. read more

I moved to Teaneck 3 years ago and continued to use my family mechanic back in Queens up until I discovered Hios. I had a car emergency & looked up auto repair shops close by. Since going there I feel that this place is the closest to home to is worth using. They are personable, do a great job on your car & charge reasonable prices. read more

What??? A Mentch? Not a chance. Very expensive, will never bother to get a used part for older car, will put in new for hefty price. Didn't diagnose fatal problem with my car. Worse than anything is that he parks the cars all over the sidewalk and blocks it causing pedestrians to either squeeze through the cars or walk in the street. read more

Jimmy has been taking care of our cars for many years. His business is what you might call a "sleeper." He is too busy working on cars to be bothered with Internet and advertising. He is an honest gentleman with not a greedy bone in his body. For all those who are saying he is too expensive, I highly suspect that it is because Jimmy is getting the job done RIGHT. There are lots of mechanics out there who underbid by cutting corners on the job, because they want to get the job. Jimmy doesn't need any extra business because he has the trust and loyalty of his community. He is one of the most reputable people I know, and a true expert when it comes to motors and vehicles.
