I've had a mixed experience with Hip Kids. While Dr. Guzek is fantastic, the office itself is a complete nightmare. It's nearly impossible to get a check-up appointment in a timely manner--every time I've tried, the earliest available slot is at least two months out. For basic, routine care like a check-up, that's simply unacceptable. To make matters worse, this is the third year in a row they've scheduled a vaccine appointment for my children, only to later inform me that they don't even have the vaccine in stock. This year, they confirmed the appointment just the day before, and I even took time off work to make sure I could get there. I showed up, only to be told once again that they didn't have the vaccine and I had wasted my time. The lack of communication and professionalism is absolutely frustrating. read more

In regards to yesterday's visit, I am happy to be discharged from this office as I was not expecting to return. Dr. Guzek was completely out of line by not even giving me the opportunity to ask questions about the vaccine topic. She IMMEDIATELY shut me down and spewed her political views and threatened me and my children that we were going to be "the first to go since we're on AHCCCS". NO ONE in a "professional medical position" should ever mix personal political belief with medical opinions or advice. I was absolutely floored with my experience and was very quickly dismissed by her after her meltdown about "the next administration and RFK jr.". To add, I never once asked her for ANY of that information or her opinion.. simply just stated that my partner and I were interested in spacing out or pausing on vaccinations/ boosters for a bit until we decided if we wanted to proceed. All in all a very horrible experience and one I hope she can learn from. I've worked in professional settings and I could never imagine doing that to another person. read more

I have had continuously excellent experiences with Dr. Guzek and her team. They really do care about kids and their families. This is visible in everything from easy scheduling, fast rooming, timely appointments, and quick responses to phone calls or emails. Dr. Guzek herself is thoughtful, compassionate, and excellent at meeting parents where they are at. I chose her to take care of my newborn and she has carefully guided baby's care, offering wise tidbits along the way. She brings parents into the discussion in a unique way. I have brought 3 kids to hip kids for the last 3/4yrs. I have never had any issues for routine visits. I have had multiple issues with anything other than that though. Many of the times i call when my child is sick i am not able to get in. We usually have to go to urgent care. Most recently, I contacted their office asking for a referral for lab work or a specialist to evaluate my daughters leg pain. I brought her in over a year ago when she presented with pain in her legs. The doctor wrote it off as growing pains. The pain came and went for over a year. I called again stating the pain isn't going away and I wanted a referral to a specialist or lab work to confirm that it wasn't something else. The staff was not able to schedule an appointment. They stated I'd have to call the day of so she would be scheduled with the "sick" kids - she wasn't sick. I was immediately upset and scheduled with a new pediatrician. The new doctor looked at her knee and the location of the pain and stated it did not look like growing pains. We went for an ultrasound and xray and guess what?! She had a cyst behind her knee! This is what had been causing her pain the last year. I should have trusted my gut and gotten a second opinion last year. We have obviously since switched offices. I am sincerely disappointed in this practice. read more

She's great with our one year old & always spends an adequate amount of time with us at each appointment. Where to begin... HipKids is an amazing place and we absolutely adore everyone we have met. If it wasn't for Dr. G and Jeannette our bean wouldn't be here today, they literally caught a life threatening congenital heart deficit at our two week appointment and the entire stay we had at Phoenix Childrens Dr. G stayed in touch and made sure everything was going okay and we were being taken care of. At every check up since we started to see them she has been supportive of every decision we have made and gives us relief as first time parents that she's a baby and everything is going how it needs to. My kids have been seeing Dr Judie since 2015 at her previous location. She always makes you feel like you're the only family that matters when she is with you. She has a gift with children and can make a connection quickly. Her office staff works tirelessly to support families and children daily, and are the MVPs since nothing gets done without them doing the work! Her longtime triage and referral coordinator Jeannette is a total rockstar and gets things done that seem impossible! I am grateful for board certified MD visits everytime I go in, as this is rarity in healthcare and one of the benefits of a private practice as opposed to corporate medicine. We had to find a new pediatrician since moving to The valley. I found this practice on my insurance list and then looked on yelp at reviews. This practice is small but it's a family friendly atmosphere. We didn't have to wait long at all. If I had to mention anything that I didn't like .. I would have to say it was a hassle to get an appointment. They don't schedule appointments for new patients until they have all the records from your previous doctor. That was a bit of a hassle because honestly if your child is sick and needs to be seen I don't think the past records should be holding an appointment up. Service is good in general. Polite front desk staff. But nothing to be impressed about. They take same day or next day appointments. My wife and I took our newborn baby for health check ups. And as new parents, we mentioned we were trying to "sleep train"our son and that we were trying to figure out this new parenthood thing. At this point, my wife is still very emotional and going throughout postpartum depresión, and all those hormones in her body making her cry everyday. Dr Guzek, well she was very opinionated and was very clear about it, and flat out straight told my wife she was doing everything wrong, that she was traumatizing my son and that she was basically the worst mother ever. Yes... you read this correctly. Dr. Guzek was very aggressive and determine to make her options "right". I had to bring my Zen in act and not react to the situation and politely deescalate her approach. I was very aware that she knew what she said was hurtful to my wife, and she didn't bother changing her approach with some sort of damage control. She tried to cover it up, never apologized, and made it a point that she was "right" at the end because she is a Dr. That's her opinion, and I respect that. Yet, we came to her office to utilize her medical experience and not to get reprimanded by her personal opinions. With this said, if you are a new parent and want to be told how horrible of a job you are doing and want some stranger to just tear you up and tell you that you are doing everything wrong, and that you are the worst parents ever; then this is the place for you. I wanted to provide another update for this amazing place and people. At the time I had 2 children and now I have 4 which includes a set of twins! Dr. Guzek is hands down an angel on earth. This office is single-handedly responsible for my sanity the first year with twins wether is was from lactation consultations, helping us figure out a milk allergy in one of the girls and just reassuring me that yes the stomach bug can last that long . I have recently moved out of state and unfortunately won't be seeing them anymore but if you're looking for a pediatrician that will treat you and your family with the care and compassion you'd expect, this is it! read more

We Dr Judith Clark Barnes. She thinks outside the box for the most complex of illnesses. My daughter has 2 chronic illnesses and we are often stumped on a treatment for her. But since being seen here we are getting answers and treatment. The Dr is patient and kind and has so many resources to reach out to colleagues for help. Wish we would have found her earlier. The office is adorable with sofas and big comfy pillows in oranges and teal. Bright and beautiful glass chandeliers. We travel from Queen Creek and so worth the drive. read more

If I were going to be visiting a pediatrician, ie re-live my childhood, Dr Judy is THE ONE pediatric doctor that I would like to see. I've known Dr Judy since before my child was born.  I met her at Saguaro Pediatrics prior to giving birth.  That practice closed and we followed her to Active Kids Pediatrics and we stayed with her despite the Active Kids practice being further away.  We've since sold and moved even further away, but stayed with Dr. Judy. Now, Active Kids Pediatrics has closed down , but, once again, we have decided to follow Dr. Judy to this practice, Hip Kidz Pediatrics.    Dr. Judy explains everything, answers all concerns and she is even prepared with valuable knowledge for the "just in case"/"contingencies". She tells you, if your child is taking this medication, you might see these symptoms and what to do if you do see them. When I first met Dr. Judy, I honestly thought that she talked far too much. But as I got to know her, I began to appreciate the information she provided. I absolutely trust her knowledge and advice. She has young children and she will honestly tell you what she'd do with her 2 children. She's very good about that.  Ha!  The name Hip Kids Pediatrics is sooooooooo Dr Judy.  Kids just love and adore her because she is so kind and patient and friendly to them.  She speaks to the kids and connects with them on their level, because she is so darn "hip". I am so disappointed with the lack of concern and quickness to direct to urgent care when all you want is for your child to see their doctor. When she is sick (and also for well checks) she is incredibly thorough and really cares. She answers all of my questions (and I have ALOT) and she listens to all my concerns. I would love to give them more stars, I love Dr. Guzek and have been seeing her for both of my boys. But the staff and the wait times could use a lot of work! I have been calling for 3 weeks trying to get an appointment for both my boys. Left messages and never heard back. Finally was able to get an appointment but was waiting for someone to come see us for 45+ minutes. Very frustrating. This also isn't the first time we have waited so long. Has happened quite a few times for both my boys appointments. On another occasion the front desk lady kicked out my husband since we are both not vaccinated for personal/medical reasons. They only allow one unvaccinated parent in the office at a time. I have never heard or come across any other office that requires that. We will unfortunately be looking for a new practice to go to if these changes are still apparent for our next visit. read more

Dr. Guzek is an absolutely wonderful doctor. She has seen and cared for all 3 of my kids since they were born. Even with new born twins in the start of the pandemic she always was happy to take the extra time with me and my kids. The staff have also been wonderful. I always receive a call back, and full explanation if I have any questions. Dr. Guzek has been by my sons(and my side) thru his acid reflux, colic, dairy allergy journey. I would not trust another team to take better care of my kids. read more

I absolutely Loveeeeeeeee this pediatrician. Im actually jealous I cant be a patient lol . Where do I even start ?!? Out of respect for my childrens previous doc I wont name drop their practice but I have never in my 30 yrs of living find true, genuine , empathetic as well as WISE docs. Assistants etc, My mom died when I was 8 so I literally had to learn how to be a mom by myself . my girls see Dr.Barnes .... Shes a true freakin angel. i absolutely adore her as a person and a doc as well. She knows me and my children by NAME . She spends time not only tending to my girls (one was born w/ complications and was in NICU) i Have 3 btw.... She never shamed me for lack of knowledge about certain issues thats arose . She make sure she clarifies EVERYTHING before she leaves that room. During the similac crisis shes paid close care to my NICU BBY .. her passion for children is absolutely unmatched I can literally go on and on about the amazing staff here!! I am so grateful we found Hip Kids Pediatrics. When we moved to Chandler, I hopped on Yelp to find a new pediatrician for my 3-year old daughter at the time after not wanting to drive to our old ped's office across town. They didn't do meet and greets at the time so I was a little wary when we had to take my daughter there for the first time which was a sick visit. My concerns quickly dissipated when I met Dr. Guzek. She is the most down-to-earth pediatrician I have ever met. She really takes the time to get to know not only my children, but also myself and my husband. I can tell she truly cares about our family as a whole not just treating a sickness or walking through a standard well visit, which is so important to me. She is a mom with school-aged children so she really 'gets it'. We have since had another daughter, and she is so good with babies!! She put my mind at ease, reassured me and boosted my confidence when we had feeding issues. The front desk staff is always very cordial and helpful. The nurses are also great and super informative. They also hook it up with formula samples and coupons on our infant visits, which is so appreciated because formula is not cheap. Took my son here for the first time today and had an amazing experience!!! I was very relieved because my son's last pediatric clinic (TLC Pediatrics) was horrible! I had been taking my son there for 4 years since we moved here from Tucson and not once did I have a good experience with them. My son has a lot of health issues due to a serious injury when he was 3 months old and every time he needed a referral to see a specialist, they wouldn't give them to me. They never took the time to listen to my concerns or questions and always rushed us out the door. And don't get me started with the wait times there. I finally took the time to look for another pediatrician and I found this one. I'm very happy and satisfied I did, they were the complete opposite! We look forward to return. Dr. Amy Guzek is amazing! She saved my son's life (maybe a bit over-dramatic, but I'll get to that part). First, I appreciate Dr. Guzek's day-to-day bedside manner. She is highly competent, graduating from a prestegious university and having a strong technical background. She provides valuable direction and recommendations, but also flexibility for parents to do things their own way (breastfeeding vs. formula, for example). We are always seen right away, never waiting more than 10 minutes, yet we're always given ample time to ask a million questions. One particular well visit, she noticed a subtle breathing problem with my 8-month-old son and sent us to the hospital. Without her early intervention, who knows what would have happened. She made herself available 24-7 while he was in the ICU, and she even researched my son's hospital files and worked closely with Phoenix Children's Hospital's staff to make sure he was getting the care he needed. She truly went above and beyond, spending countless hours of her free time to make sure my son got better and stayed healthy. In addition to Dr. Guzek, all our interactions with the other doctors and staff at Hip Kids Pediatrics have always been nothing short of professional, competent, and enjoyable. I tried getting my son in since he was released from the hospital and needed immediate follow up and they wouldn't return my messages. Until I spoke with the receptionist and she said she saw the message of do not book and she was going to ask the doctor about it and of course never called me back. I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Guzek for four years and now bring my new daughter too. I am a nurse and took finding a high quality pediatrician seriously. I am so grateful I found her she has been huge blessing to our family. This office is small but mighty and you are not "just a number" like you are at so many Peds offices, rotating through providers. It's personal care that's really rare now in healthcare. She is nonalarmist but listens to your concerns. If you plan to breastfeed she is a true BF advocate not just BF tolerant and is a IBCLC who did a full consult on my first visit with both girls. I cannot say enough how much we love Dr Barnes. She has been my sons doc since bith (circumcision to sex ed-he is 17 now). She always remember me and every aspect of our family. I am now raising my step daughters kids (2 and 4). We live in Queen Creek so it is a drive buy so worth it. I have followed Dr Barnes to 3 practices and am so glad I have. It is usually easy to get a same day appointment or worse case the very next morning. I have taken one appointment with Dr Guzak and she was great as well. Now with that said the front office and sometimes even the nurse are serious gate keepers and I have on occasion had to pretty forcefully insist that my message go straight to the doctor. I hate when I have done this because Dr Barnes is an exceptional doctor and really goes above and beyond the call of duty. We have sometimes had to wait longer than I have wanted but that is because we are not her only patients. I know for a fact that if one my kids was in a dire situation she would do the same for us and another less dire situation would have wait. If I could give her 10 stars I would. We love you Dr Barnes and I am sorry for my outspoken teenager that always asks strange awkward questions about teenager stuff. I am feeling compelled to tell our story. It is long so I will attempt to condense it. I cannot say enough positive things about this office and medical providers. If there were more stars available, they would get them from me. When we first arrived here from Tampa, FL in Aug. 2017, my son (who was 8) became sick right away. We had not established a pediatrician yet and asked for recommendations. Everyone recommended was too busy to take a new patient who was sick. I found Hip Kids and called them. They agreed to see my "new patient" sick child that day and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. They fixed him right up and followed up with us even over a weekend to make sure he was doing well. A few months later, my younger son became sick in the night with intense chest pain. We went to the ER at Phx Children's where he was sent home with no treatment and his chest x-Ray was read as negative. Dr. Guzek checked on-line from home once she was alerted her patient had been seen and noticed that in the x-Ray, he actually had infiltrates and pneumonia. She had us return to the ER and this time they prescribed antibiotics to him. Again, due to her quick review, she found that the antibiotics prescribed were not appropriate for the pneumonia and got them changed before we even drove to the pharmacy to get them picked up. Dr. Guzek, Dr. Clark, and the staff work very hard to get kids what they need. They genuinely care about each child they see. They are both mothers and go above and beyond to care for their patients. When my kids are significantly sick, Dr.Guzek checks in on them, reviews vitals, and provides support regardless of how busy she is. She listens and problem solves and stops at nothing to get her patients what they need. My boys, who are now 11 and 14, adore her. I don't know how they will ever be alright switching MDs as they age out of her care. There are so many reasons why Dr.Guzek and Hip Kids are voted Best of the Valley by their peers year after year. It is because it is so well earned and deserved. read more

She really helped me as a new mom with breastfeeding and recommended the best breast feeding pillow that we still use to this day. Before enrolling my daughter as a patient at this office I did extensive research regarding other pediatricians in the area. This office is by far the best in terms of clinical expertise and customer service. My daughter has been with this clinic since she was 2 days old. I have had nothing but great interactions with her Pediatrician Dr. Guzek. When my daughter was approximately 2 weeks old we noticed a hemangioma on her lip. Dr. Guzek immediately contacted a dermatology specialist and we were able to get in quickly (the clinic wanted me to wait 2 months but we were seen the next day because Dr. Guzek pushed for an urgent consultation). Unfortunately, my experience with the dermatologist was not ideal and when I told Dr. Guzek this, she devised another plan to get my daughter the help she needed. Being in the medical field, I know what going above and beyond looks like. That is what Dr. Guzek does. She will advocate for you and she will give you information that is unbiased with no other agenda but to help your child. As a bonus, she will give you that information in a way that is easy to understand. Oh and as a side note, she was instrumental in helping me build a more than adequate breast milk supply, as she is a lactation consultant. Do yourself a favor and enroll her services if you're on the fence. While Dr. Barnes Clark has never treated my child, she has always been extremely friendly towards my family. Dr. Judie Barnes-Clark has been my daughter's pediatrician since she was born. We continue seeing her even after we moved to a different city. Her new office at Hip Kids is directly behind Makutu Island. It's a nice location, parking is not an issue. The place is clean, staffs are friendly and my little girl loves the little play area for the kids. Dr. Judie is also a great pediatrician. Horrible billing service!! The first woman I spoke to about a bill i received that I already paid said I owed money for the time my son had an ear ache...ya that wasn't my child try again...then I spoke to another woman and was then charged extra for a normal well visit because when I was there the doctor noticed my sons eye was red and then proceeded to tell me it would clear on it's own. Mind you I never brought it up or asked anything about my sons eye. According to their billing practices this now means it's no longer just a well check and now I owe money for an office visit! Are you joking me?! Because the doctor wanted to bring up something I didn't even have a concern about I now have to be charged! Since our first visit Dr. Guzek has always been attentive to my young son. She has always answered all my questions and never made me feel stupid for asking them. My husband and I are first time parents. Her answers and encouragement helped me reach my goal to breastfeed my son until her was a year old. Every time I have called her office her staff has always been helpful. Answering questions or fitting me in for last minute appointments whenever my son has woken up sick.
