My two kids were sick so we booked for a Saturday appointment to rule out anything ominous. Cindy Besch was our provider and she was amazing. My eldest was petrified of the doctors after previous bad experiences but Cindy made her feel so comfortable and cared for. My eldest co operated and stopped crying while Cindy helped her do all the appropriate tests. Cindy is the highlight of Desert Shores. Wish all providers were as kind and patient as she is with kids. I have to deduct a point as we incurred unexpected charges for "early office hours" on both girl's accounts. Kind of annoying seeing as they open as normal office hours and the Saturday appointments aren't advertised as anything different. read more

Moms don't go to Dr. Ciminello here unless you want to feel like you are a terrible mother and get talked down on the whole appointment. My sister took my nephew here today following an incident that took place at home and was being a GOOD MOTHER and took her child to get checked on to make sure he was ok and came home to tell me about her experience with tears in her eyes. We typically go to the Gilbert location and I am glad we do because apparently this location hires medical professionals that aren't very professional. Somebody should probably educate him on how to speak to a new mother that is actually doing a fantastic job transitioning into motherhood and really loves and cares for her baby. Postpartum is already hard enough as it is and she doesn't need a rude doctor to make her feel like she is an awful mom. Neither of us will ever come back to this location. Do better. read more

Another clinic! Most are nurses not doctors and they are definitely out to turn a profit instead of having the best interest of your child. The problem is the doctor that founded the practice. She doesn't care about anything other than profit. Trust me go somewhere else! I appreciate the polished response but clearly the 3.5 stars speak for themselves. Desert Shores Pediatrics is an amazing practice. They care very deeply for my child and have a wonderful office staff. I am proud that they follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and protect vulnerable children in our communities. My son sees them for several chronic issues and they have always been available when we need them. We go to both the Gilbert and Chandler locations and typically see Dr. Nason and Stacey, but all of their providers are really nice! Their office staff is I highly recommend their offices. read more

Really wanted to love this business but after being there for over a year, we moved on. They allow delayed vaccines but the amount of shame the Dr made me feel each appt as a brand new mom was so discouraging. Furthermore, my newborn had issues nursing and would take 45+ mins to finish a bottle. When inquiring about potential mouth ties I was told most people just make it up and got a referral to a feeding specialist. When I came back for my babies next check and shared she had her lip, check, and tongue ties released and was nursing successfully now I was treated like I was dumb and just another person who fell for the hoax. Truthfully as parents we want the best for our kids and have the responsibility to do so. Unfortunately it feels like this company has zero tolerance for anyone who thinks or even questions differently than them. Parenthood is already hard find a provider who can educate and still be respectful. read more

Review update: Since posting this review, desert shores hand delivered a letter via courier to me that states they " will no longer be able to serve as your families pediatric care provider. It is apparent by your recent one star yelp review that you have lost trust in our ability to provide quality care." I could never imagine as a business owner firing a client of six years opposed to calling and making it right. It's interesting that after two occasions of complete and utter disregard for my child's care, one of which being sent away, that I got a call today, with a small level of concern from the provider since refusing to ever use their services again. After the awful disheartening experiences I had with this provider I found that the way this facility is ran is not at all for the children's best interest. You are a number and being ran in and ran out in an assembly line is the absolute worst thing for a new baby, and new parents. I had never even seen a growth chart in the time I was with Katelyn Squire and have not only seen, one but now know and understand what to expect with every new stage my baby will be growing through, thanks to our new pediatrician who also took an hour and a half out of his day to communicate every single ounce of what to expect. The other day I was called about the review I posted. Where they had my child dropped in paper gown for more than 15 minutes. I thought we were good after conversation. But today I was called by Rebecca at first when we spoke she was like we wanted to discuss the review you posted. I mentioned it's ok I already spoke to someone in regards to the issue. Then she said well why haven't you removed your review. I responded that I wasn't asked to remove it. But I could try to remove it. But then Rebecca had the audacity to say that if my review wasn't removed soon that they would no longer be able to see my special needs son. That's when I decided that I and every single parent are the first advocates of our minor children. How dare you Rebecca say I have no right to voice the concerns and lack of respect towards my child. Dr Van Tassel is such a blessing! I really couldn't have asked for a better doctor. I am a new mother and have a 2 month old. I was SO nervous on deciding on a pediatrician and dr office. Dr Van Tassel is so sweet and caring with my baby. I also really appreciate that she will answer all my questions in detail. She also doesn't make me feel like I'm asking silly questions. Ha ha! She is also very supportive and understanding. I considered not breastfeeding for long and most other people I've come across seem to frown upon it. Dr Van Tassel isn't that way at all and will help guide you in the right direction with respecting your decisions. The office team is pretty friendly (some come off nicer than others but I havent had any issues). The place is cute and clean. I love that they have two entrances which includes a sick side. The location is also really convenient for me. No problems with parking. Making appointments so far have been pretty easy too. So far - only positive things to say. read more

Came here on the suggestion of a neighbor. This was our first visit to doctors and I'm sure not our last. Called in the morning and got same day appointment. We walked in a couple minutes late as my GPS was taking me in the wrong area. One of the girls that checked us in was either not having a good day or just annoyed because we walked in late? Luckily she had coworkers that made up for her not so cheerful attitude. The doctor that was able to see my little one was great and made her feel very comfortable. Desert Shores is awesome, top shelf, truly. We moved to Gilbert in June 2018 and were able to get into the Chandler location though we live very near to the Gilbert location. Dr. Van Tassel is a rockstar. She connected w/ our son immediately, like they've known each-other for years. She demonstrated significant expertise in managing his higher level needs which go well beyond the average kid. I was previously happy for minor events, however when my two year old was stung by a scorpion they stated they couldn't observe him because they were closing in one hour. At the same time, they were concerned about his pupils changing. I wish I could leave work as planned each day and I perform a far less important task for society. Today, lets hope he is okay. Tomorrow, lets deal with this level of basic humanity that is so lacking in today's world. Update - one bad experience, however this location has been great ever since. We have gone through a few doctors over the time we have been at Desert Shores Pediatrics due to two Doctors moving in the first year we were there. A little disappointing since we liked them and got comfortable with them and had no idea they moved or were leaving until we made our next appointment. Loved Dr Potts all around and Dr Yin was very knowledgeable but now we see Dr Allred whom my son LOVES! I have the typical toddler who cries with any healthcare personnel he sees but he is so good for Dr Allred! She is so sweet, personal, knowledgeable and always takes my concerns into consideration. My son never cries when he sees her and actually looks forward to seeing her! One star removed for the billing area. I have had a few issues with being double billed, having an extra statement that was already paid in office or insurance not getting the correct information so I would get charged for something that I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. I have had many calls with the office and communication with the front desk and insurance and it's always been cleared up but watch your statements. read more

Been going to the Chandler office for two years. The Drs are kind and good with kids, but the front staff needs some work. They've always been tolerable, but not super friendly. But recently they have hired some new front office members who are just rude. They don't greet you, aren't friendly, and act like you are inconveniencing them. This is unfortunate as they are part of creating a memorable experience for patients. On the positive the on call nurses have always been great and good with call backs. read more

Hidden Costs/Unprofessional! Look out for a $30 "Supplies/PPE during Public Health Emergency" charge for appts, and if you take advantage of their Saturday appts (normal business hours as listed on their website) you will be charged $85 for "After/Early Office Hours". So, a normal visit on a Saturday which might run you $125 is now $240, and insurance doesn't cover the PPE and Office Hours charges. There are so many great Pediatrician offices around town, save your time and money and go elsewhere. We've had an extremely poor experience with the Providers and Office Staff, and finally threw in the towel and left. This place is not worth the time. We kept saying "it will get better", but you and your child do not deserve that. read more

After countless interviews at other valley pediatric offices we found Desert Shores to be the best one. They have many providers, their hours allow for later appointments, and the staff were very friendly! The Chandler location (they have 2 locations, Chandler and Gilbert), is my favorite one, though both are great! We've been going to this office since 2008 and both of our daughters love their doc, Dr. Nason. She cares, listens to our concerns and takes them seriously, and is very competent. We have seen many of the other providers at both locations and have never had an issue with any of them. When my kids are sick, it's nice to have the support they offer letting me know I did the right thing bringing them in and what the plan of action will be to get the kids well again. They do not over-prescribe antibiotics and know that some things just have to run their course. We've been through some big health scare journeys with our kids and this practice and they are amazing at getting you to the right specialists and they follow up to see how it all went. Absolutely love it here! One of the doctors came highly recommended by our pediatrician back in California and we're so glad we found her. The facilities are very clean, bright, and welcoming. The doctors and staff are friendly and accommodating. Although there are many other offices closer to our home, we're happy to drive over half an hour to have all three of our children seen here. read more

Dr Van Tassel is amazing. She is thorough, always on point and ADORES every kiddo that walks through the door. She gets down to their level, hugs and talks to them. My son has had some unique challenges and she's been able to monitor him better than his Immunologist. She's the best thing that happened to this practice!! read more

We really like this office. After checking out a couple different pediatricians when our son was born, we had a hard time finding one that seemed to really care. The doctors here, however, are wonderful. I don't trust these people. I believe Dr Nason is recommending helmets for babies because she gets a kickback from the helmet company. A different doctor told me that the issue would correct on its own. Dr. Nason told me that the health insurance company wouldn't cover it because it was cosmetic and then she told me that it was going to press on her brain stem. Is the back of her head being flat cosmetic only or is it going to press on her brain stem? I'm not sure but another doctor told me that it would correct on its own so I don't really think I need to get a helmet like Dr. Nason recommended. read more

Staff and doctors were very nice. Fast wait time and very clean. Reason for only 4 stars: The hours are 9-5, however they have extended hours for an additional charge. Also while I was there I needed my sons adderall refilled. They make you come in for a separate appointment for that! If that's not taking advantage of our insurance system for them to get an additional doctors visit copay and billing, I don't know what is. read more

The providers are great especially Marian and Dr Bhullar, however the office staff is RUDE and incompetent. This is the second time we have come for an appointment that we have gotten email reminders for that upon arrival, they say they cancelled. They have evening appointments that are only for sick patients, no well visits for kids of working parents, you have to take time off of work for that. There has to be something better. read more

He has a wonderful bedside manner that allows him to connect with kids and his diagnosis's have been accurate. He takes his time with patients and parents. I really like Dr Van Tassel. I thought she's very thorough and is very pleasant to deal with. If it wasn't for her, I'd give this place 1 star and that's 1 star bc that's the lowest rating I could give on yelp. There are staff members however that could really improve on their customer service skills, especially when dealing with parents and their sick children. A little empathy could go a long way. Today, I had a very unpleasant experience with their staff. This person just hung up on me! Background: my son is already a patient here but my daughter is new. I get that they wont be able to see her same day. So I called and scheduled an appt, they suggested a couple of times but neither time suggested in the morning works for me so they suggested another time in the afternoon. As soon as I hung up, brain fart kicked in and I forgot the exact time so I called right back (not even 5 mins later) and someone else picked up. This is when things went downhill. I asked her to confirm with me again the time of the appt and she gives me the time that i declined 5 mins ago. I said no to the afternoon one with Dr Ciminello. Then she tells me that someone else booked it. I said that's not possible bc I literally just got off the phone and it was me that booked it. The 'tude starts here. Part of it probably is bc i sounded annoyed (well who wouldnt be?!) i asked several times for her to confirm the time and date bc they dont email or text appts to new patients (and given that i lost my spot just like that, im a little worried about their scheduling system). This woman repeated my schedule a couple more times and then no warning or whatsoever just hung up on me! I didnt even get to ask my other questions. Now I'm beyond PO'd. I called right back and 3rd person picked up. I explained how upsetting that experience was and she was very apologetic and was able diffuse the situation. So there, 1 star off bc of that rude staff member, 4 stars bc of Dr V-T and 3rd staff member (Emily) who knows how to do her job. I don't know, maybe they could explore getting a scheduling app to replace the poor service some of their staff provides or train their staff with proper phone etiquette. Its also possible that its just that one person that needs to figure out if healthcare customer service should be her line of work ‍ read more

Wow what an office! Brought both children (8 & 12) in for annual exams and to get the oldest his latest vaccination. I had the paperwork filled out prior to coming, but the front desk staff got us checked in quickly and was very pleasant. Within minutes of check in the kiddos were walked back for the exams. The Pediatritian was efficient, answered all of my questions on the most recent vaccination, and talked through a few additional questions I had. The boys liked her and she made them feel comfortable. That was a big win for me!! The office has extended hours, accepts most insurance, and billing appears to be spot on. I'm very happy with this medical group and highly recommend. read more

Updating my review: I've continued to go here, and I've met a couple techs and more doctors who have been great. New doctors have joined the practice, and I've never needed to wait long in the last 6 months. Also, after needing same day appointments for a terrible infection prone winter, I have to say we've always gotten in immediately with our providers of choice and our calls for appointments, to billing and to the nurse for medical questions have all been promptly answered. We were referred her, to Dr. Cimenello by two friends with multiple kids. Our newborn is now a month old and he took care of our newborn checkup, frenulum snip, circumcision and Dr. Johnson did our one month checkup. They have been overly fantastic. Very informative and had an answer to our MANY questions. They don't try to do too much, and are very reassuring to some of our prior worries.
