There hamburgers were very good while they lasted there, this location closed due to the ongoing renovations of Northpark Drive and the difficulty for customers to get into their parking lot. I liked their beefy meat patties and the fact you could order the burger cooked to the doneness you prefer. They had a lot of specialty burgers as well as a few other things but I always got a cheeseburger and onion rings which were also very good. It was good. They didn't ask us the doneness of our meat which leads me to believe it's a premade patty. I could be wrong but I will try again and ask for medium doneness .This was my only problem. Our beef was well done which I'm not a fan of. However they do have a great selection of burgers. I tried the Texas chili burger and my husband had the Hawaiian burger. We felt the same way about the meat. The onion rings were panko breaded (mediocre) and the fries were the same. We also had wings. The wings are breaded. I had lemon pepper which was flavorful but they seemed to be premade wings as well. Prebattered wings but they were very crispy. We will go back and give it another try but I will be sure to be specific when ordering. It seems to be a pick up place. It's small in the inside and it was very cold in the place. I've been to one other Hippo earlier last year and it was pretty good. That one was located adjacent to a gas station and was very sparse in ambience inside. This one is a lot nicer to dine in and was one the way to a get together I was invited to with some friends for snacks and karaoke. I was hungry so I decided to just eat here. It's my cheat day too from my keto diet so I was looking forward to the burger and fries. I went with the Texas Burger with regular fries. The burger itself is nice and hefty which I like. The taste was good with the jalapeños and really satisfied my burger craving. The fries were good too, freshly fried. Could tell they used real potatoes and nothing processed like other burger chains. I wanted some ranch dressing but was told it was $0.54 cents so I skipped it. I like this burger chain which is why I was glad to see it was on the way to the party. Hippo burgers is a really good spot for Awesome burgers & delicious seasoned fries, this is their 3rd location that opened up near me thats a plus. one of my favorite menu items is the the Mexican burger which comes with jalapeños, bacon, cheese and a big juicy beef Patti on a nice toasted seeded roll which all compliments together well, I also love their garlic fries which are so delicious I have never had fries like that before I do recommend its a must. my wife favorite menu item is the hippo chicken sandwich which is another menu item thats a must, the chicken is very juicy and pairs well with side of sweet potato fries. they do have some good kids menu items like a kids burger, kids tenders which is a good amount and my kids are always happy. the Service is ok friendly, There is really no ambiance just a few comfy booths and few small tables the place is also very clean. hippos is a good spot you want to catch a game like baseball, basketball, or football if they have it on. the only down side id say is everything on the menu is a separate item nothing comes in a combo other then the kids menu items, and also a bit on the pricy side. Came in about 1:45 on a Thursday. No hello, no smiles, but we ordered and got our drinks. The girls at the register sit down on a stool, and stare at their phones ,when there is no one to help at the counter, and yet, the tables and floor were dirty. Both areas littered with pieces of food , and the tops of the tables were not clean at all. We stopped by for a burger as we were heading home from the Texas Artesianal Market. We live an hour away. I would love to have a location close to Richmond/Rosenberg. Clean restaurant where you order at the counter and they deliver to your table. The booth was a big crowded..a little more space would be great. Hubs got the mushroom burger with Cajun fries with jalapeño ketchup. There was a lot of flavor in the mushrooms and the meat. He thinks the mushrooms were not fresh but they didn't have a metallic taste like canned mushrooms. He said it was a bit messy to eat but really tasty. The fries were fine...nothing spectacular- the burger was the star. The jalapeño ketchup was nice...not too hot; just a touch of heat with a slight sweetness. I got the Hawaiian burger with chili cheese fries and ranch. The ranch was thin and underwhelming. My burger was really good. As I began eating it I mentioned to my better half that it would be better with a touch of sweetness...like what you normally get from a teriyaki sauce. But just a little sauce because I'm not a huge teriyaki fan. I took that statement back once I had a bite with the pineapple. The pineapple added the perfect amount of sweetness. I'd eaten about 1/4 of my burger before I bit into the pineapple so a fix could be to put 1 1/2 slices of pineapple on it instead of 1 slice so you taste it in every bite. The piece of ham was lightly grilled which added a nice flavor. I agree with hubs about the fries. They were just ok. The cheese and chili were mediocre. I thought this was a pretty cool concept. They had a variety of burger options. I got a cheeseburger and added a pineapple to it. It was pretty tasty lol.
