Fantastic 1st stop on our way to Burlington. Very clean, well designed space. 12:30 on a Friday and the place was not very busy and we headed right to the bar to sit. Very friendly service that had us sipping on locally sourced craft beer right away. Very reasonably priced flight which had a pilsner, a pale, an IPA and a stout on nitro. All were solid. The place smelled so incredible since a large tray of smoked wings were fresh out of the smoker, so we had to order up those, along with their fantastic onion rings. Not sure about the one review saying the wings tasted like rubber, but they must not enjoy smoked style wings. There were piping hot, and practically fell right off the bone when you ate them. A nice hint of some sweet spice in the dry rub that I could not identify, but they were some of the best wings I have eaten, so take that for what it is. We both absolutely loved them. I ordered the house salad and it was a monster for under $7. Loaded with cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes, arugula and other greens. Split a pizza (Green Street, loaded with Basil pesto, roasted fennel, pickled fennel, mushrooms, baby arugula, toasted pine nuts, local mozzarella, Grana Padano & balsamic reduction). Ordered only 1/2 mushroom for my picky friend, and they happily obliged. We brought some of the salad and pizza home with us, as the portions were gigantic. A great first visit to Hired Hands. What a nice spot... Clean, bright, and a friendly staff... A great addition to the town of Vergennes. Loved the big windows and the option to sit inside or outside or even take out! The bar is lovely w funky industrial looking lights.. Aluminum walls and ceiling.. Very contemporary looking. 2 tvs that aren't intrusive. Nice menu: pizza, salads, selection of grilled cheese sandwiches... And apps... Beer, wine and beer cocktails! Beer cocktails!.. Delicious and priced right at $8! We enjoyed the make your own pizza. What a fun spot! Opened by Ian Huizenga, owner and chef at the Antidote, this is not to be missed off the main road through Vergennes. Explore the appetizers or Anti Pizza and dive into pie and cocktails on a cold day. I can't tell you how much I love a beer cocktail. Try the Smokin Berry with stone cutters whiskey lemonade fresh berries, and Addison county tractor pils! Phenomenal! It pairs perfectly with the pickled veg and egg starter with just the right amount of zest. Sylvia our waitress made us feel right at home. She was excellent! The ambience during lunch was just what I needed on a cold fall day. You bet this will be my go to place! The Margherita pizza has roasted plum tomatoes, maplebrook farms mozzarella, herbs and garlic with an incredible olive oil drizzle. You can add your own toppings to this and make it your own. So good. In fact it was so good and had that perfect crust that we ordered a second pizza at lunch! First time at this place. They've got a well thought out pizza menu and it took a few minutes to decide which one I was going to get. I went with the Korean BBQ because it sounded so good. When the pizza came... Firstly, this is a big 12" pizza. Secondly, I was so excited about the pizza that I didn't read the entire description on the menu, and missed the fact that it had kimchi on it as a topping. WOW was that a good idea. This thing has a MONSTER flavor profile. Oh my god is this a good pizza. I think my only nitpick might be that although the crust was nailed at golden brown, I tend to like my pizzas with a little more black on the bottom, but again that's a nitpick. I'd have no problem paying full price for this pizza again and again. The bartender said that they have customers that come in over and over and order this pizza and only this pizza, and I believe her. No problem. I'm driving long distance tonight so regretfully I can't try any of their vast beer selection, but the menu looks delicious on that front as well. Both the beer and the food were amazing. We almost didn't come because it wasn't clear online if it was just the brunch menu or the full menu on Sunday morning and the kids really wanted pizza. Helpful hint: the full menu + the brunch menu are available. My kids had the plainest pizza they could get and loved it. The adults had the wings (awesome) and the pizza special which had chili oil and Tasso ham (even awesomer). We took a bunch of cans of the Mosaic to go to share with our beer loving friends. We aren't in VT very often but will definitely go out of our way to come here again the next time we are. read more

Hired hand brewing is a great brewery. I stopped there during my visit to Vermont. I really loved their milk stout, as I tried a flight of their five available beers. The bartender was very attentive and responsive. Their thin crust pizza was great too! I would go back just for that alone. read more

I ate here with families LT on way to basin harbor club. Very good beer selection and good menu. Decor and service was good as well. Menu is healthy small plates and the mostly bar pizza. With that said the types of pizza are much better and more eclectic than regular bar pie. Habanero Samoan was excellent. The pickled veggies and onion rings were also a good call. Sad to leave this place a mediocre review :( the service was slow, the meal was pricey, and the portion was small. I got the brisket sandwich which came with a mountain of coleslaw and two tiny lives of brisket on bread for $14. What a great addition to Vergennes! Anything new in the area is always worth a trip in my opinion but Hired Hand exceeded my expectations. We stopped in for dinner with some friends from out of town. The dining room was cozy, causal and clean. There was plenty of bar top seating and a variety of tables. I tried a flight and samples some of what they had to offer. The beer was solid, nothing blew my mind but the IPA and DIPA were something I would order again or recommend. Some other members of our party tried differing beer cocktails and were really impressed, a cool addition to the drink selections. The food shocked me. I had gone in expecting an average pub fare experience but I was completely wrong. We started with the streamed buns. The pork belly was delectably crispy and the Korean BBQ packed a kick but was full of flavor. We decided to order up some pizzas, specifically a margarita and a build-your-own creation of sausage, caramelized opinion, mushroom and roasted fennel. Both pizzas were amazing, from the crust to the sauce to the toppings everything seemed carefully prepared. In my opinion the pies ranked with the Folino's, Piecaso and Flatbread pizzas that I had deemed some of the best in the state. We couldn't stay away and ordered out a few nights later. Two 8 inch pizzas run about the same price and a large pie at other local spots. The same price for pizza twice as good? I'll be doing my pizza takeout from Hired Hand from now on and I'm sure I'll be bringing friends again soon! read more

They told me no problem bring the dog. I get there and the story changed, mind you he's exceptionally trained and well behaved (way better than the kids that were there). We decided to make the drive from BTV to check this place out. Oh boy. We had the roasted mushroom salad, with mushrooms roasted with some kind of black magic that made them devilishly delicious, with a peppery arugula salad, paired nicely with shaved parmasean and pickled eggs. Steamed pork buns with perfectly sweet and spicy sauce and kimchi like none Ive had since moving to Vermont. The ham and cheese board was worth it for perfectly savory cured ham and homemade apple sauce and mustard. And oh yeah, cant forget the pizza so we tried the sicilian and even though we got plain the taste was anything but. We will be back soon for sure. read more

Stopped in on the way up to Burlington one snowy night after a long and harrowing drive. The place looked like an oasis--all warm woods and colored lights--and we thought we might have gotten lucky. As it turns out, we were more than lucky--by a long shot. The pizza was delicious, with a crust that was just the right combination of crisp and chewy; the roasted mushroom salad was unusual and delicious; and the milk stout was the best I've ever had, bar none. We visited this establishment a few nights ago. Was brought through to the back room by the waitress kind of weird. Said there was a party going on so we had to sit in this back room area. OK so we did ordered a cocktail cocktail what is not Made right didn't complain. Maybe they just didn't have a bartender on. As it was early, am I a little picky yes, I was a bartender for many years. Overlooked the incorrect ingredients of the cocktail. I ordered and waited for the entrée. It came out on the small pewter like Rectangular tray plates. Almost looking like what my son called prison plates. I get what they were going for the industrial look but we laughed and yeah, it look like a tray from the prison not that I've ever eaten a prison or been in prison. It was interesting. The plate was very small and as I try to Eat my food it kept falling over the edges onto the table. Pretty inconvenient. Well here's the saving grace. The food was actually delicious. Too bad the presentation wasn't helping. Also, it was really loud in this back room area. There was another couple there and saying that there was not a single soft surface in the whole room it was almost like they were sitting at our table. Every word they said was as if they were sitting at our table. Kind of snapped at our conversation because we felt we like we were competing against them so we ate the delicious food try to not look at the prison plates And the fact that that room was so cold and our butts were freezing on the metal chairs. The waitress was fine and quite friendly. But the feeling of the room really put a damper on everything as well as my cocktail not even being close to what I had ordered. Could I have sent a cocktail back sure but I really wanted to like this place will try it again. Maybe it was an off night. Had a chance to have dinner and drinks at this friendly and vibrant tap room tonight. Wings were fall off the bone tender with a distinct, but not overpowering smoke flavor. Pork Belly bun had a decent kick and very fresh and tender all around.
