We came in on a Saturday night and the place was pretty busy. We were staying right away however it did take a little bit to get our drinks and food but it was worth it. Our group wasn't starving so we decided to share some appetizers. We tried the grilled salad, wings, crab dip, grilled cheese/tomato soup and Brussels sprouts. I get to review the Hyde Away Inn & Restaurant as both an inn and a restaurant. The Inn - I was there for two nights in a room adjacent to the restaurant. On the website, the Hyde Away warns you'd be able to hear the restaurant through the walls. I'm glad they said so, or I would've been very surprised to hear the music and voices and sound of chairs moving. The room itself was simple and generally clean, but the toilet was certainly finicky and some of the toiletries in the bathroom had been there a while and were waterlogged and maybe a bit moldy (specifically, a couple of miniature bars of soap in little cardboard boxes). The Restaurant - Between the two meals I ate there, I had the smash burger, the grilled Caesar and the beet salad. All were excellent, plated nicely and served by wonderful, responsive staff. The one knock is that, when we were there, the kitchen wouldn't let us order anything to go, even though we were staying there. So we ordered food sit-down, then boxed it up as it arrived. No harm, no foul, but we just wanted to be in our room while we ate. read more

First time here, but my friends have been coming here for years. Apparently it has upscaled quite a bit as it use to be a dive bar, but has now become a local tavern. They lamented that the pool tables are no longer around, but there is an expanded patio space onto the lawn to enjoy during the summer months. We came for drinks initially but ended up having dinner also as they sun started to set. Great bar with cocktails, beer and NA selections. We tried the local beers on draft, and would definitely recommend! I had the roast beef sandwich with a side salad. I never take the time to write a positive or negative review. I am a VERY busy person a wife, mother, nurse, and service member. After a summer of being away I was finally on a birthday trip for my sister with a friend. We decided to go to Waitsfield, VT. I saw good reviews for Hyde Away Inn specifically for their poutine (which they don't have). Every minute I get to just relax is valuable. After a 4 hour drive my friend, sister and I were very hungry and looking to have a nice dining experience. We arrived at Hyde Away at 7:45 and at 9:30 had still not recieved our dinner. We Were extremely hungry. We had ordered a few drinks which took about 30 minutes to come, our appetizer which was a pretzel and beer cheese came about an hour later and the cheese had a film on it as if it had been sitting out a while. The restaurant was not packed and a family that had been there prior to us being seated did not get their food until 2 hours later. The little girl at the table had ordered a grilled cheese, which should take 10 minutes, not two hours to make. After we waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food we asked for it to go, at which point the hostess offered us a free dessert, we never order dessert we just wanted a simple meal after our travels. Another 15 minutes went by and I went inside to tell them we don't want the food anymore, the only place open nearby was a gas station that we wete hoping to get snacks at which closed in 10 minutes. When I went in they said they had just bagged up the food. I managed to get the desser and club sodas off of the bill, but still owed over $100. I paid and drove off towards the gas station, which had since closed. We got to our hotel and looke at our togo food. What we had orded should have taken no more than 20 minutes to make given the number of customers there. We ordered a cesar salad, chicken sandwich and lamb burger. The cesar salad had 3 pieces of lettuce and 4 pieces of chicken, the chicke sandwich bad raw chicken on it and the lamb burger was tendonous and flavorless. We had two complimentary desserts and not 3. The food was inedible. Over $100 after a long travel day down the drain. We ended up just getting and making macaroni and cheese cups from the hotel lobby. Extremely disappointing. Staff was very unprofessional and the food was awful. My husband and I ate dinner at the Hyde Away last Thursday (10/16) while staying in Waitsfield. We noticed the big tent behind the Inn, and made a reservation just one day in advance despite the forecast for rain. Their outdoor setup was great; we were completely covered from the rain and they had a few heating lamps keeping us warm. In terms of COVID, the tables were well spaced out and the server wore her mask the whole time. Dinner itself was excellent. I came in here on a Saturday night when I was staying in the area. There was a 45min-1hr wait but I was able to snag a seat at the bar. On Saturdays, they have a prime rib special. I went ahead and ordered that. It came with Brussel sprouts and a baked potato. The portion was huge and I could have easily split it with a friend! The prime rib was delicious and the Brussels were amazing! The Brussels had a bit of honey flavor to them and were cooked perfectly. If you want to try the prime rib on saturdays, you need to get there early because they will run out quickly! read more

This place is great! We came for a late night dinner and they wonderfully accommodated us even though the kitchen had closed. We had a Delicious Burger and fries and big shout out to the bartender for friendly and kind service. They had no entrees available, but didn't bother telling us that before sitting down and ordering drinks. Burgers, wraps and limited food options only available. The Hyde Away is the spot! Wife and I took a midweek ski get away to Sugarbush. Not only was this place so good we ate here two nights in a row. Both nights the service was very good. The location is very warm and inviting. The best part of it all is the food it's so good. I recommend the tuna tartar as an appetizer. So good I had it both nights. When ordering the meal waiter asked how I wanted my salmon cooked ... umm what? Cooked through, I guess? Never been asked that before because it's only for beef. We shared brussel sprouts and cheese dip with warm pretzel sticks as an appetizer (a bit salty, but still good), split a perfectly cooked grilled cheese with tomato and a caesar salad and finished off with a raspberry sorbet. The black bean burger must've been pretty good, because I wasn't offered a bite. :-) The blacken catfish sandwich was flavorful, but the piece of fish was a bit small. It didn't cover the bun and it was like eating mostly bread. The protein to bread ratio was fine when only eating the bottom bun. Everything was delicious and our server John finished out the great service by chasing after us in the snow because I had forgotten my credit card! Got there at 5:30 on 1/28 and were told to make a reservation so we ended up being on the list at 6:45 and coming back, which was fine. One hour into our reservation we had been served 1 drink and our food hadn't been ordered. It's not hard to pour a beer. 2 hours in and our food had yet to be served, while other tables seemed to be getting normal turnover. At the 2 hour mark my friend asked to see the manager and I've never been so shocked how rude someone could be. She did nothing. The waitress was very nice (seemed more fit to be the manager than the actual manager), and the food was pretty decent, which is the only reason I'm not giving this a 1 star. Don't come here unless you plan your whole night around it because we didn't get out of there until around the 3 hour mark. If you can't handle capacity, tell the customers you cannot accommodate rather than wasting their night. They did nothing to make the situation right. They are damn lucky they included gratuity with the bill because the service did not deserve it. read more

We stayed here for two nights at the front of the Inn(not sure the room number. The two room apartment was perfect for two couples(two separate rooms). With two additional beds when you first enter the room, you could also fit two kids. The proximity to Mad River Glen and Sugarbush make this ideal for skiers, which was exactly what we were doing that weekend. For those who aren't skiing it's still a great location to restaurants around Warren/Waitsfield, and not too far from Waterbury. We ate dinner here on a busy Friday night and all enjoyed our meals. The gnocchi set the tone as the starter and most of us ended up with the Lamb Burger. We also snacked a few times throughout the weekend and enjoyed the vibe in both the restaurant and the bar. The breakfast that was included with our stay, was also very good. The staff we interacted with were very helpful/friendly, even during peak rush hour(this place gets busy). Which I know isn't fair to all the other dining options in the valley, but I can't help myself. The Hyde Away has exactly what I want in a low-key, local eatery. Great food served by terrific attentive waitstaff. Pre-Covid, I've eaten inside and the ambiance is exactly what you'd expect and want in a place like this. Now, here we are still battling the virus and their outside dining set up is just as perfect. Felt like we were in an episode of the 3 stooges. We walk in at 7:30 on a Saturday night. We stand there for about 5-6 minutes at the hostess station. Finally someone walks up and greets us, I believe the owner or manager. Table for two? We say yes, she turns around says she will be right back. Steps a few feet away and begins to talk to a server. Within ear shot they are discussing being out of cauliflower for the special. They go back and forth about it and then she being the lady who greeted us walks off and doesn't comeback to us. Another young girl walks up to the counter and asks table for two? We answer yes again. She asks if we would like to sit outside we say no. She looks at the seating chart in front of her, not sure what she is trying to figure out. She says how about a high table since apparently they have no open booths. Okay we say. She studies the chart again. Now mind you we have now been standing at the hostess counter for almost 15 minutes. So she scribbles on the chart and takes us down the steps. We are seated at a booth.. okay. We pass 2 empty booths and two empty 4 top tables. She seats us and hands us our menus. A few more minutes pass with no server or acknowledgement. Finally someone comes. I didn't catch her name I am not sure she gave it. We place our drink orders and right off the bat she takes the specials menus and proceeds to rattle off what they don't have. Out of some of your starters, vegetables and your specials, really?!!!! Infuriating. We end up settling for the Caesar salad instead of the stuffed deviled eggs since they were out. The salad was big and fresh lettuce but the dressing was watered down and lacked flavor. We had originally wanted the bacon wrapped meatloaf but being that is was already later in the evening and we were not particularly impressed thus far we thought the meatloaf would likely be old and cold from sitting all day. So we ordered the chicken hoping that it would have to be cooked fresh. The roasted chicken had a delicate seared crispy skin, a bit dry on the inside; the maple beurre blanco was lightly sweet with a hint of savory. The potatoes where whipped to perfection. The asparagus was tender and perfectly cooked. It was a beautiful dish in both presentation and flavor.
