I am definitely coming back again. This was a really cool place because they serve japanese and filipino food WITH karaoke. Disclaimer that I have not tried their japanese food but I did try their filipino food. Also if you don't like loud noise, this may not be the place for you as karaoke is for everyone to hear. I got their menudo, kare kare, barbecue and their halo halo. Everything needed a tad bit more salt in my opinion but the flavors are definitely there. The barbecue and the kare kare were probably my favorites. They are also reasonably priced. In the pictures, the halo halo looks all white but that was pre-mix and everything was at the bottom. After a mix, everything was amazing. Service was good but make sure you aren't shy and willing to go up to the desk to ask for things. Note that you will need to pay for rice which surprised me. I have never had kare kare or menudo without rice but you have to order rice separately here which is not a big deal but something to be aware of. read more

I just ordered through delivery for the first time, but I've spent many late nights singing and laughing at Hiromi's. For the food itself, I would give a 3.5/5 stars. It's not bad but it isn't anything out of this world either. Tonight I ordered the sinigang baboy and the tortang talong. The delivery arrived in less than an hour so that's cool. In my opinion, Hiromi's is definitely the place to go if you just find yourself craving some Filipino home-cooked meal and you don't feel like cooking it yourself. I love me some sinigang so I definitely was not disappointed by theirs. As long as it tastes good then it's good haha. For the portion size and the price, it's definitely a good deal. For the restaurant, I give them 5 stars. They have good service as they are friendly and will sing along with you. I go in big groups when I'm there so it feels very comfortable. Agreed. Food isn't that great. When you do two different cusines, you are the master of none. But if you go in there and just expect ok but not GREAT food you will enjoy yourself. I am not surprised why this restaurant is 20 years in business next year. The food is great, and the ambiance is very good. Most customers feel like they are in their own home. This is the only place that I think serve grilled pusit (japanese style) with spicy mayonaise on the side. The pusit(squid) is soft and I can finish the whole plate of it. Their garlic fried rice is very good with chicken adobo as side dish(ulam). This place is BYOB and have karaoke. I noticed that customers stay longer than usual, maybe because they feel at home and relax. The owner is not pressuring the customers to leave although they are not ordering anymore. Closing time is 2:00am but sometimes there are customers who came at 1:00am. Just to give them enough time to eat, they extend their time, but they don't accept anymore order 10 minutes before 2:00am. I am definitely recommending this place. read more

This place is great, a family owned business who are great people. I've only tried the filipino food on two seperate occassions and it tasted terrific. I know the family that owns the place and they are the nicest people so the service should be spot on. Definitely a great place to check out if you live in chicago or just visiting like I was but definitely a must. Thought I'd give this place another shot and was even more disappointed. I ordered the beef teriyaki dinner. After waiting for over 30 minutes, my food finally came (and I was the only one at the restaurant!). The beef itself was barely edible- it was too chewy. This place is fun. It is BYOB and there is karaoke. Believe me, this combination has its own sort of charm. Its a Filipino/Japanese mom and pop-type restaurant. They bring the karaoke mic to your table, and you sing off of tv screens on the walls from your table (most people singe while sitting). Selection is decent, but it the video karaoke versions of songs are not the best nor most up to date. This place is smaller and filled with regulars, but don't be intimidated, Filipinos are some of the most fearless, accepting, and worst karaoke singers on the planet. Avoid this place if you ever feel embarassed for others, because you will be, this place is devoid of ringers. A good place to go and laugh with your tone-deaf friends. I brought a bunch of non-filipino friends to this place with a 30 pack of beer, and though they were intimidated at first we eventually felt comfortable (the beer helped). The owners were very nice and gave us some free dessert. The other patrons are very nice too. The Japanese food is decent and passable. The Filipino food can be strange for those not used to it, but their versions are pretty spot on. Try the lumpia, eat Japanese if you don't want to take chances. Awesome restaurant! The people were friendly and the Filipino lady assisted me and my friend great. After touring downtown Chicago, we were starving and wanted some "food for the soul," or home food. I don't even know if I'm applying it right, haha. Anyway, the food was great! I had the Garlic Fried Rice and was thinking of siding it with Beef Mechado, but the lady recommended Chicken Adobo for "Ulam" or side dish and enlightened me that it very well complemented the Garlic Fried Rice. Once I took that first bite, it made me hungrier since it was so good! My friend ordered the Lechon Kawali, and they served it with a side of Sarsa Ni Mang Thomas sauce which was really good also. They should include more fatty pieces instead of meet in the Lechon Kawali in my opinion, those are my favorite ;). Anyway it was about 12 A.M. when we were there so I don't really have a say in the environment during the day. Overall, it was a great experience. Definitely will be coming back sometime later. This is a nice BYOB place that serves Japanese and Filipino food. In addition, patrons are able to karaoke. I have only tried the filipino food, and it is tasty. Maybe they have improved from previous reviews. The menu selection is basic for filipino dishes but the preparation is solid. The only issue is that the portions could be larger for the price. So having tried a few other Filipino restaurants in the area, this one is my favorite. I actually ordered takeout after a disappointing trip to another restaurant. The sinigang is authentically sour. The pork bbq is a touch sour so don't expect the more prevalent sweet pork bbq marinade. The garlic fried rice (sinangag) is a little more elaborate than I'd make at home since it has scrambled egg in it too, but it's still good. The pancit bihon is good although palabok is my favorite pancit. Their version of lumpia shanghai is smaller than my family's (we make cigar-sized lumpia), but it is still meaty and tasty. I even like the leche flan. The only thing I haven't liked here is the turon. I don't order the Japanese stuff because there are better and more authentic Japanese restaurants in the city. It's a little kitschy in ambience, but you'll have fun singing along with the karaoke and eating Filipino food. Btw, this place is BYOB. read more
