Visited for a girls night! LOVE the variety of dishes you can order with AYCE, not just BBQ meats (but these were very good too!) they have everything from Korean fusion tacos to lumpia to noodle dishes, even fried oysters! There's also a good spread of things that go WITH your bbq meats (rice, lettuce wraps, bonchon). I thought it was so smart that they put your raw meat for the BBQ on a tea tier, so good for managing table space. They didn't really limit how much we could order at once which was nice (we were reasonable with our pace tho lol). The ambience was nice but kinda dark the lights were not bright enough and I couldn't see whether the meat was cooked or not. The last thing I don't like about this place is the auto added 20% gratuity though you can ask and remove it, doesn't seem right that the restaurant dictates how much the customers should tip. On top of that, there's suggested tip at the bottom of the receipt after all tax and gratuity are added. I rate Ryuu 3.5 stars. I've been spoiled for Korean BBQ after living in LA. We have been searching Chicago for Korean BBQ that is up to the quality we got used to in LA's KTown, we've tried 6 places and so far we haven't found anything that's close. I was going to rate Ryuu 3 stars but given the incredibly low price I gave it 4 stars. Service = good Drinks = good - I loved the lychee martini Apps = so, so, the tuna with crispy rice had barely any tuna on it Meats = so, so, the bulgogi was ok, the short ribs - tough, the pork belly ok. I would say that Ryuu is a toss up with Daebak in Wicker Park, I think Daebak has slightly better meat but is slightly more expensive. Would I go here again? One of my favorite restaurants to frequently dine for date night but my last experience will unfortunately make it my last. Our dining experience went down hill from the start. I work in the service industry but this was unacceptable. Service was so slow we were only able to order twice and receive a total of 4 meats for AYCE. Our grill had to be replaced several times due to the oil placed on it burning without any meat by a server passing by. About 20 min in, the entree came. 30 min in, a sushi roll, still no appetizer, no drinks. At the 40 min mark I asked her when we can expect the drinks or the app and she said 5 more min. 15 min pass and you could just tell that they intentionally weren't even looking at our table as they ran past. The tipping point was seeing a KBBQ table arriving after us and getting their drink before us... I let her know that maybe we should just cancel the rest and close out. The AYCE deal is good - albeit I do feel it could've been a little less than it was. Our reservation was at 8pm and the kitchen closed at 9pm - the service, while not bad, didn't allow us to fully utilize the hour as we do in other AYCE places. The serving per plate of meat was little (2 person so a hassle when you're 6) so we had to keep ordering whenever the only server was around. I wish they would digitalize the ordering system for ease of customers if they're charging $40+ per person. Other than the above possibly minute issue, it was a good experience. Came here for the grill table and all you can eat style $30s per person. WARNING read the fine print! If you Do Not Finish a plate you get charged! So order slow ha. We didn't read it before hand and definitely ordered prob 4 plates too much. Sharing is easy and plenty ha. But we tried so hard and left with just little bites left and they understood our pain ha. But the food was KILLER! OMG so good! EVERYTHING! Black tea on the side was tasty. And such a fun experience to cook it yourself. Ryuu has some of the best Korean bbq in Chicago. Then when you the AYCE element, best bang for your buck, that's for sure. For $32 a person (before tip+tax) you can order almost anything and everything off the menu. Seemingly high quality meats and CRAZY good appetizers. Seriously, don't sleep on the apps. Then, they give you this platter of sides and sauces including kimchi, egg, seaweed, and more. My absolute favorites off the menu are the beef bulgogi, LA kalbi, crab Rangoon, and avocado spicy tuna. The reason I gave this place 4 stars is because I didn't that many napkin or water refills which are definite necessity when you're eating this good. Overall, this meal is well worth it. So make a reservation if at all possible, because you might not have any luck if you try to come in as a walk in. We were originally planning on ordering a la carte, but somehow convinced ourselves to do the All You Can Eat. There's a lot of rules and regulations on this, but don't order like an idiot and you'll be fine. The max is two items per person at a time, and that's honestly enough for one sitting. Where you have to be careful is ordering a bunch of appetizers. Don't be a dumbass like myself. The thing is they offer all the popular Asian appetizers. Crab rangoon, fried dumplings, lumpia and a bunch of other popular ones. Yea I did order the ones mentioned. I couldn't help myself. They were all good except for the lumpia. Not the greatest and definitely wouldn't order it again. For the meats, we ordered beef only. We got Ribeye, chadolbaegi, spicy beef bulgogi, and Kalbi. I took my family out to eat for Mother's Day on Saturday, and we still had 20 minutes to order when they cut us off from the kitchen with no explanation. They also brought us a different table's order, which wasn't a problem since we caught it before grabbing anything. But our last order, along with the desserts we ordered with 5 minutes to spare, never came. Instead, they walked right up to our table when our time ended and handed over the bill. K BBQ should be enjoyed in groups, but the more people there are, the less welcoming this place feels. And we were just a table of 5 this time, but I've been here with up to 15 people and service is never satisfactory. You can tell when they're tired of you. Not to mention the heat is lowered significantly between rounds of meat. Perhaps a way to run down our time? That's at least how it felt like. If you're a group of people, I don't recommend. If you're solo or on a date? Maybe, but is it worth AYCE prices? Not for most individuals. We got a few rounds of the brisket, pork belly, kalbi and all were really delicious but the best part IMO were the variety of appetizers and noodle dishes that are also part of the AYCE menu. The spicy tuna avocado appetizer and fried oyster dishes were delicious. Both seafoods were very fresh tasting. The oyster was smothered in really good sauce and fried to perfection. The avocado that was part of the tuna dish was a generous portion. I really enjoyed it. I also appreciate how vegetarian friendly this place is. You no longer have to ditch your non-meat eating friend to go to an ayce kbbq place! they can pick from 5+ noodle/rice dishes with tofu options, most of the appetizers had a vegetarian option, the veggie options for grilling are also very solid. i will definitely be returning. Solid place for AYCE Korean BBQ in Chicago, which could honestly use some more KBBQ joints. The menu has a lot of meat options, including KBBQ staples like bulgogi, kalbi (short ribs), pork belly, chicken, and seafood, as well as a variety of more fusion style meats like thai chicken, etc. There is a nice selection of appetizers like egg rolls, dumplings, and crispy rice tuna or crispy rice avocado. Honestly, the crisspy rice appetizers were the tastiest dish we got. The rice was perfectly crisped, loaded with spicy tuna mixture or avocado, and more than enough spicy mayo and unagi sauce (they were so tasty we got another round of each at the end of our meal). The meats were all fresh and reasonable quality, but the marinade and flavor of each was hit or miss. The short ribs and pork belly were both thick and juicy, but some other meats were a bit disappointing like the ribeye which was super thin and too garlicky, or the bulgogi which too sweet compared to other typical kbbq joints. The service was great, there wasn't much of a wait for any of our orders, and the drink menu is surprisingly cheap. The banchan: I was not feeling them at all. The only side dish I fully ate was the seaweed and thats it. Everything else did not taste or look good to me. With the banchan came a salad. I did not like that either cause it had a carrot puree dressing that didn't taste good. Apps: The crab rangoon were average. Definitely more creamy and less crab meat. I've had way better. The sweet n sour sauce it came with was delicious though. The korean chicken wings were very good. They are less meaty but the flavor was delicious. Meats: we ordered the kalbi, ribeye, spicy korean chicken, and the spicy porkbelly. The kalbi was my absolute FAV, you have to get it! The overall quality and flavor of the meats were amazing! Some gluten free options Improvement: Possibly more staff. I believe there were about 2-3 waiter staff for the building. Due to the customer demand it took ~10-15mins to get our food after we order, not including probably 5-10 wait time before we got their attention. AYCA is 90min max so we lost around 50% of the time in waiting. Honoring discounts stated on the website. When I first came in I asked if the discount for AYCE for March, 24 per person, was still valid to which I was told yes. Upon checking my reciept it stated the full price of 30 per person. My patience wore thin and I didn't feel like waiting any more so I sucked it up. I came here with a group of friends on a Saturday for AYCE. We were hopeful it would be more satisfying and authentic than Iron Age, but left sorely disappointed. The service was a little slow and not the friendliest, despite not being super busy as we were the first table seated after they opened at 3 pm. First of all, the table we were sitting at wasn't very clean. There were food particles on the chairs and the grill had black remnants from the night before. We ended up using pork belly to clean off the grill ourselves prior to grilling our own meat. Secondly, we thought it was odd that the table we were seated at was for 6 people but for some reason the grill was located at one end of this table which meant we had to serve the 5th person who wasn't close enough to the table the entire time. Next, the menu states certain items are available Unmarinated. But when we asked the waitress about getting the rib eye unmarinated, she told us it would need to be a few hours since the meat was still defrosting?? She had a bit of an attitude until we asked her what was the point in having something on your menu if it wasn't available...needless to say, we were forced to eat the marinated version. The worst moment occurred after we ordered the beef brisket. It was the ugliest excuse for beef I've seen in my entire life! It looked like dog scraps and it was very stringy and mostly fat. We couldn't bring ourselves to eat that so we had it sent back. Waitress gave attitude about taking it back and only did so after two members of the party refused to eat it. We stuck with the LA galbi and flat iron beef options which tasted reasonable. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. Not worth it for $42 after tax and tip. Their cuts are thick - pork belly is cut thicker than usual. That's another factor why it took too long for us to actually eat bbq Ordered beef brisket too - we thought we were given a big slab of meat but it was all clumped up sliced beef. I have never seen no such care in presentation. Probably because this beef we ordered was gluten-free/unmarinated. It seems like they had to defrost it first before serving. Appetizers came out in decent times though. I should have taken pictures for proof but by the time we got our meat I was already annoyed for waiting for a loooooong time. Even the drinks were served about 40 minutes after ordering - just for one Coke and one cocktail. And the place was not packed! Wtf. Our server was sweet but we always had to get her attention to request for something. If she went to our table to check in on us on appropriate times we would not have to bother her. 20% gratuity is already included in the bill so Staff do not have to really put effort for good service. And why don't they serve sesame oil and salt with their banchans?? We had to ask for it and the server seemed surprised for this request like I requested a goat dish. Limit of two items at once per person. $5 charge per uneaten item. 20% gratuity included. We made a reservation as it was a Saturday night. It's a small-ish place, so reservations are a good idea. We were checked in by a buser. (There did not appear to be any actual host or anything.) He directed us to wait at the bar while he bused our table. There were two people behind the bar. Neither looked at us, let alone attempted to take a drink order. Why direct us to sit at the bar to wait if we're only going to be ignored? So our table is ready and the buser gets us and seats us. He even explains some of the different menus and everything. Really nice and friendly. Eventually, our server comes over. We immediately place an order for cocktails, a sushi roll, and our two items each for the BBQ. And then we wait. And it was a seriously long time. Our sushi roll came out first. Then one of the AYCE appetizers. Then our cocktails. Then all the extras/sides that come with the BBQ. Then two of the meats. Then eventually one of the other meats. It was really surprisingly slow. Our server forgot to bring us scissors. We didn't even know this was a thing until he mentioned it over halfway through our meal. Same server neglected to mention the different seafood grill. Not when we ordered the shrimp. Not when he delivered the shrimp. Not until 15 minutes into seeing us attempt to cook the shrimp. He then forgot to bring us extra napkins. And twice forgot AYCE items we ordered. And then brought the check without asking if we'd like additional drinks or anything. I guess when the gratuity is automatically included, they don't care about the service? He did have a couple of large tables. But it definitely wasn't busy or crowded enough to warrant such service. Oh well. He was friendly at least. So on to the food. All good and seriously filling. The Kyoto sushi roll was delicious. The crab rangoon was packed with filling and had a great dipping sauce. The BBQ sauces available on the table were great and paired well. The meat items were plentiful for AYCE. All the meats were seasoned well. The "spicy" options were not too spicy for anyone. All in all, totally filling and enjoyable food. The space itself is small and nice. It lies somewhere between modern and dive. Kinda like a dive wanting to be modern. It works. It's a nice ambiance. Not too crowded. Not too loud. The bathrooms were a mess. No toilet paper and way overflowing trashcan. And fair warning, the bathrooms are directly in the kitchen path, so you'll probably get run over by someone carrying things back and forth. We enjoyed our meal. Looking for more KBBQ options in Chicago per usual as we are so limited to that good good I am so accustomed to finding back home in LA. We made a reservation for 7:15pm on Wednesday, 2/16/22. When we walked in, the place was packed. I wasn't expecting this considering it was raining outside and it was midweek, but it was a good sign for sure. We didn't get much of a greeting from the employee closest to us by the bar unfortunately. It was weird. The inside of this place is nice. It has somewhat dim lighting, and the aesthetics are on point, especially if you are sitting closer to the front of the restaurant. It's definitely not like your stereotypical KBBQ place. I feel like most KBBQ places are not as aesthetically pleasing and have a different vibe. This felt like it could be an Italian restaurant if it wanted to. Clearly they weren't ready for us because all the booth tables (where we would have wanted to sit at ideally) were full, and the other tables to the back left do not have tables with grills in them so we wouldn't be able to sit there anyways. We waited about 5 minutes, and then the took us to this table in the very very back right which was awkward at first since there was a big party next to it with people overflowing around their table basically touching the table we'd get. I don't know, it just felt like we were put somewhere that was the last option since they likely didn't even realize they had someone who made a reservation. Onto the menu. You can choose to do a-la-carte if you want, or the $32 AYCE option. It just raised from $29 to $32 by the way. Don't expect to find tongue or some more typical LA KBBQ options here. They do have the general options and spicy versions of them which I appreciated. I think if you come here really hungry, it's 100% worth it because of all of the additional appetizers you can ask for. We deadass ordered lumpia and they were the smaller Shanghainese version, but they were actually decent considering we were at a fusion place. They came out hot. But no joke, you could order potato samosas if you wanted, chicken wings, etc etc. The service was not really great here. I'm not gonna rag on them too hard because I know that during the pandemic how much small businesses have been affected and many places are understaffed. I do wish our server was a little bit friendlier though. We told her "thank you" a million times and she never responded to that. It was just weird. She was always in a rush, and we had to keep asking for water refills, grill changes (sometimes would be waiting for a while), she forgot our rice, and just overall it seemed slow. We ordered a total of five meats: brisket, spicy bulgogi, LA Kalbi, pork shoulder, and spicy pork belly. We were not a fan of the brisket at all. Something seemed off, and the way the meat cut came out was strange too. Bulgogi was good, although it didn't have any spiciness factor to it. It seems like they might've just given us regular bulgogi. I reaaaally liked the LA Kalbi though. It went very well with my rice and the sauces. Oh, that's another thing, the sauces here are different than typical KBBQ places. They have this like watery "spicy" sauce, but I didn't see any salt or light colored sauces. I did ask for chili paste, which I our server didn't really know what I meant at first, but then brought it out accompanying sriracha which I was forever grateful for. It would be nice if they had rice paper here though. Lastly, the two last meats we ordered were pretty good as well. Pork shoulder was good as expected and spicy pork belly was also delicious. We honestly probably should've come here only if we were hungrier, because normally we both can eat more. For $32, I don't find it a bad deal if you can eat a lot considering all the meat options AND the appetizers, plus you do get a choice of mochi or ice cream at the end which is nice. With the cost of everything going up this year due to inflation, $32 is probably exactly what I'd expect. I just don't think I'd wanna return if the service is the same. Good Korean BBQ in Logan Square! We were there for a birthday and it was a good experience. The seafood was fresh and we had ordered a lot! It a good place to have your kids try new things since they can participate in cooking their meals. They had good appetizers and desserts. It was a packed place at night. I actually super love this place but am only giving them 4 stars because... You kinda have to work it. You only get 90 minutes, so know what you want and order it as soon as you sit down, the servers are elusive and not that available when you're ready to order. For dessert, mochi and is 1 piece per person and you have to pay more if you want more.... A regular dessert portion anywhere you go is 2 pieces.... We have to go somewhere else for dessert because it wasn't really included with dinner. Prosecco is draft and kinda flat but the Chardonnay is pretty paintable with all of the food. read more

Love this spot and they deliver everytime we dine here! It was a 5pm reservation on a Friday, so we beat the dinner crowd. The server was super friendly and helpful and explained how their AYCE kbbq works. You're allowed to eat up to 4 meats at a time and then order appetizers in between those orders. You would also have to pay $5 for any extra leftovers. We ordered the lumpia, bbq pork  bunbaos, LA Kalbi, beef brisket, bulgogi, pork belly, kimchi fried rice with beef, spicy tuna tacos, and mango and green tea mochi. Highly recommend LA Kalbi everytime! The marinade is on point and really delicious. Service was fine overall and paid $100 for two people since a 20% tip was included. Amazing food! If you want a good experience, I recommend doing the all you can eat experience. You'll most likely need a reservation to make sure they have a table ready so that you can cook your own food. We go lucky when we walked in as there was a reservation that didn't show up. The food was flavorful and I couldn't get enough. Normally I don't get overly full at these types of restaurants but the food was so good that I couldn't stop eating lol. Lastly, you have to try the ice cream. It was a perfect dessert to end dinner with. read more

Came here with a party of 5 on a Sunday night for the all-you-can-eat option for $32 per person. The appetizers, grilled meats and veggies, dessert - everything was delicious, prices were quite reasonable, and the ambiance is really cozy and fun. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I am giving Ryuu 1 star because I can't go lower. Let me tell you we have eaten at Ryuu many times in the past, even right after the pandemic, and we always had a delicious meal with kind, attentive servers. The waitresses would bring extra bowls of Korean pickles before we even finished our first, and miso soup was included in our ala carte entrees. Tonight we came with family who had never eaten there before and we were actually embarrassed.First, they have gone to an all you can eat format at $32 a head, but there are cautions on the menu that if you don't finish, you will be charged $5 a head penalty. The menus are shoddy and worn out too. We were not informed of the change when we reserved, nor were we told that a 20% gratuity was included. Service was slow and provided haphazardly. We were never offered seconds, and when we emptied our plates of the meager quantities they provided, the server shut down the grill. The portions of beef were not marinated and were cut in a Much different way than before. We had to ask for rice because they didnt provide it, and the rice was cold, as was the tea. Great AYCE Korean joint. For the price, it's a great deal, especially since you can order off their appetizer menu. Don't sleep on the crispy avocado or crispy rice spicy tuna. Also the banchan options are pretty good. The only con is you have to order everything within an hour, and only have 90 minutes total to dine. Considering we had issues with our burner going out several times and had to track down a waiter to fix it, we felt a bit rushed. The drink prices are also very reasonable. read more

How did this restaurant get 4 stars. 3 stars at best. This is not authentic Korean BBQ. The quality of meat is on the low grade side. Most meat has little to no marinate at all. At the end of the meal, we were charged $5 on a small portion of uncooked food. The conversation goes like this: "the quality of the meat of the leftovers were not good, we couldn't finish it. The calamari is too chewy. The waitress replied. I asked was everything ok earlier. You said yes" haha. Tips for for anyone wants to try this restaurant, make sure you send anything back if it is not good otherwise you'll be charged $5 per portion.
