I contracted Couto Construction last month for a massive exterior renovation project: we updated to…read morenew vinyl/PVC siding and changed the color from white to blue as well as work done to the soffit, etc. Every aspect of the job went smooth from the initial assessments with Corey, dealing with Mariana in the project department for payments and with the project managers (César and after the first week, Brian). Their construction team was top notch, professional and very pleasant to deal with. They were consistently on time and gave the highest attention to detail and quality. Any questions we had were immediately answered either in person, by phone or through their group chat. Before work began they dropped off the dumpster and porta potty: living in a city, I was concerned space would be an issue but they placed everything with no issue and without blocking traffic. The crew stayed into the evening each work day and ensured that the work area and the surrounding sidewalk were clear of any debris and stray nails while their supplies were kept tidy and off the walkways. Brian and the crew did an exceptional job and the finished product surpassed my expectations. Financially, they were very reasonable and willing to work with us- especially seeing the end result, the cost was a value. They are fully licensed and insured (which is a rarity these days dealing with contractors). I would not hesitate to contract them again for any further projects and would fully recommend them. A hearty thanks to Brian and crew.

When I first used Couto (actually I used them 3 times for roof projects to where they replaced it…read moreall) I was very pleased with their service and workmanship. I was also impressed that they gave a 10 year warranty on their work. Unfortunately, when you need to call on them to honor their warranty things go badly very quickly. I was selling my house and as a part of that process the buyer's inspector got on the roof in May 2025. He took a picture of what was essentially a swimming pool on my roof. The water wasn't draining. Interestingly, Couto was already aware of the issue because they told me about it when they did the last roof job in March 2025. But despite me calling several times to see when they would fix the issue, they just put me off and never came. With the impending sale and the swimming pool on my flat roof, I called in for emergency assistance. They literally kept telling me they were coming out the next day for weeks. It took them a month to finally get around to dealing with my emergency, and that was after my almost daily calls, emails and text messages. I tried to get one of the Couto brothers to speak with me but apparently they couldn't be bothered with it. The moral to the story is they are great for initial work, but don't count on them to come through in a timely manner when you need them for warranty work.

I hired Jon Cottrell to remodel out kitchen and bathroom, and generally the work was superb. Jon…read moredesigned up a phenomenal living space that changed a very blocky, closed Cape kitchen into an open and airy place. The carpentry was well crafted and his crews were excellent; we thoroughly loved the work he did. We liked the work they did so much that we hired Cottrell Brothers to build an addition between the house and garage. That structure is proving to be incredible and perfect for what we needed. Jon and his crews were able to incorporate changes and adjustments to the builds. Kudos to Jon and Joe Silva, his electrical contractor! We also began the process of adding solar to our home during the construction of the addition. Joe and his team stepped up and worked with the solar company's electrician to install the correct cabling for the garage solar panels into the addition well before the solar was slated to go up! This enabled all of that to be hidden once the interior finish was completed. And for the record, the solar is running great! Thank's Joe and Jude! You went well above and beyond! Regrettably, there was one major CON from our overall experience, and why this is not a 5-star review. On the first project, the plumber and the crew of Richard Souza (Lic# MP001946) were very arrogant, incredibly shoddy, overall very sloppy and their lack of professional workmanship ended up costing me a great deal of money to fix the problems they caused as a result. He also never showed up when he was supposed to; always some other emergency somewhere else. I was just flabbergast on how clueless the Souza team was on things like "how water flows". Installing our tub, Rick disconnected a water line and just let the water drain out... under the floor... and through the newly replaced ceiling below. Just... clueless. Jon had to have his plastering crew replace that ceiling a second time. Finally, I had to hire another plumbing outfit to address the damage this crew caused to a septic pump in our basement. During THOSE repairs, THAT plumbing crew discovered a number of pipes that the Souza crew never correctly installed that would have led to catastrophic failures had they not been caught. To Jon's credit, for most of the plumbing trim work, he was able to obtain other journeymen to move it along to completion. We do NOT trust the work Sousa did, and it's been a over a year since all the walls have been sealed. We will, at some point down the road, be having all of that plumbing readdressed and replaced if necessary.
