We are from Kansas City, MO and this is our 2nd time visiting Silver Plume. When we came the first time last year we absolutely fell in love with this small town, its history, culture, and the wonderful people we met here as well. We just knew we had to come back again. Though the first time we stayed at an airbnb, we knew the next time we were gonna have to stay at the windsor. I am SO GLAD we did! We spent this trip traveling all over Colorado but our most memorable place that we visited this trip was staying at the Windsor in Silver Plume. (we ended up staying another night) There is just something so innately fascinating, and comforting staying here at the Windsor. It's like living in a simpler moment of history that we will forever cherish. The hostess was so sweet, respectful, and caring! She always made sure we had anything we needed magically without us even knowing we needed it! My fiancé and I are more on the shy side, and have a hard time getting to know new people but the hostess was someone we both were able to connect with naturally, and she was always courteous if we were too tired to talk after a long day of adventures, and just made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our rest. We simply adore her, and her family! The doggies were SO CUTE and there was something so heartwarming to see the neighborhood kids playing outside, riding bikes, and just being KIDS!!! From the moment we checked in, it felt like home in the weirdest way. The best sleep we got was here at the Windsor than ANY hotel or airbnb we stayed at. Even with the creeky floors, the movement of all the people, and the highway, it was just all apart of that experience but it didn't disturb us at all. It was all apart of the charm! I can't even find the words to describe how much we adore and love this bed n breakfast, it's just the best. We met the most wonderful people here, from all walks of life that we would've never met back home or even had the courage to talk to. I will forever be thankful for our memories we made here! THANK YOU One day we hope to move to this beautiful town, but till then we are already planning on our next trip back and best believe the Windsor will see us again! Not a day goes by that I don't think of our time here, and I cannot wait to come back! If you are debating on staying here, this is your sign to book it! You won't regret it! THANK YOU LAUREN

Absolutely magical and gorgeous place to stay. I never knew that I could have a crush on a building, but then I saw the Historic Windsor. Just breathtaking. I feel bad for the people who reviewed it poorly, they weren't able to see the charm of the beautiful house built in 1884 - boasting guests such as Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison!! Come on, how absolutely incredibly cool is that? Parking is free and available next door at The Green Solution. Yes, there is a shared bathroom (one room with a toilet, and another with the sink and shower) but we didn't run into any issues with that at all. There are no TVs in the room, but a lounge with couch, tv, games, mini fridge (stocked with homemade quiches) and microwave. The house creaks and groans a bit, so if you're a light sleeper that may be something to prepare for. But again, the charm! The decor is antiqued and perfect and the bedding was plush and kept me, who wears a sweater in 80 degree weather, nice and toasty during a 20 degree night. Lauren was incredibly hospitable and helpful. She gave us many recommendations on what to do in the area, where to eat, and tips for the hike to Gray's Peak we were attempting. I wish I could have stayed there longer, I wish I could have lived there!

Talk about an amazing place!!! We absolutely loved it. The beds are so very comfortable (I secretly wanted to take the bed, sheets and pillows home lol) Lauren is a gracious host, and I could have stayed and talked to her for days. I feel blessed to have been a guest in her home. That is how she treated my hubby and I, like valued guests. As far as the house... from the moment my feet crossed the threshold, I was in awe. It is truly a time capsule but not dirty, dusty and old. No way, this place was clean and fresh and so "old timey awesome". The crooked floors are totally cool and original wallpaper 4 layers thick from time after time (since 1880) of being redecorated. We stayed in room 4 and while it was supposed to be a full size bed, it seemed much bigger, actually really large and my husband and I slept GREAT! The breakfast was grab and go breakfast burritos this particular morning which were so good, but a hot, home cooked breakfast was offered. Lauren makes homemade muffins, but we left really early as I was on a time crunch. And I couldn't wait for them. So bummed i missed out because I bet they are awesome too, like everything else here. Such care put unto everything. She also makes cookies, (which I did try because she makes accommodations for folks like us, and they were sooooo good) I love that she thinks ahead of everything to make your stay the best it can be. Breakfast burritos in the fridge for a late night snack or early morning grab like our situation was so good. Snacks were also available like chips, crackers and other tasty treats. Even though we were up at the crack of dawn, she came down before we were leaving to see if we needed anything and to see if we wanted anything, and a Next time we are ANYWHERE in the area we will stop and be blessed again by staying here. THIS IS MORE OF AN EXPERIENCE THAN A HOTEL and it's amazing! You won't be sorry!

We are so thankful for Lauren and this beautiful historic inn that saved us from a snowstorm and provided shelter. It's an old historic inn and Lauren maintains the old world charm. It's not fancy but very comfortable as Lauren provided us food drinks wine and hot tea coffee. Since we were the only ones the shared bathroom was not a problem. It was so nice to chat with Lauren and talk about the history of the inn and the small town. Lauren even drive us to Georgetown to pick up food. The rooms were comfortable and heated. tips :- come here prepared with food and drinks and don't except fancy room service. Good spot for a stop over midway. Be ready to adjust and enjoy the vintage charm of the place One shared bathroom and shower Common room has some snacks breakfast wine and tea coffee and TV. Lauren works hard to maintain this place alone despite it being 140 years old so don't except a 5 star property: it was a lot from what we saw to keep this place running in a crazy snow storm. Thanks Lauren

I cannot believe we found such a hidden gem! If you want to feel like you are at home, or want something other than a stuffy, no character same old same old hotel, this is the perfect place! It has history, charm, character, love, an amazing owner, and real breakfast food! The rooms are beautifully done to look cozy and comfortable. The house decor pays respect for the historic house. No where else can you sit out on the porch with hot tea or coffee and get to chat with passing neighbors for hours. No where else you can get the welcome hug from the house sheriff (Lauren's dogs). This isn't a fancy 5 star hotel, this is an experience, this is a magical place to stay that is unlike any other. It makes your heart sing and calms your soul. If you want modern and fancy, this is not for you. But if you want comfort, cozy and a sense of belonging in a gorgeous setting, don't pass this beautiful place up!

Don't let the outside fool you

I counted on these Yelp reviews giving 5 stars. I was VERY disappointed. There is 1, count them .....ONE bathroom for how many rooms ....over 6 ? Sign says they don't have their own source of heat, keep showers reasonable time. Premium bedding, no that was a lie n the description. The bedroom we had was tiny. No tv. Historic or old, dusty, creepy ? The wallpaper wasn't even on the wallThe bed was hard in room #4. You hear everyone & every step because the floors creek. No romantic night for us. It was way over-priced for what you get. Breakfast ? Muffins & make your own K-pak coffee. Save your $$$. I'd rather sleep in my car.

    Disgusting water damage

DO NOT BOOK the Historic Windsor Hotel WITH LAUREN! We booked guest room #2 on Airbnb and Lauren (host) told us we would be moved to another guest room. Upon arrival Lauren put us down in the HOTEL STORAGE ROOM that is not even listed and isn't even on the guest floor! There was a snow storm and the roads were undrivable for the night so we had no choice but to stay. The room was covered in dust, unswept, freezing cold, splinters and debris/ crumbs/ trash/ rat and cockroach feces on the floor and on surfaces. No rug or carpeting, no insulation on windows. Blood stains on the mattress that sat on the FLOOR and unwashed linens that were covered in cellar dust and smelled like your grandma. I have photos of ALL the above and and have a video documenting it all! When myself, my guest, and Airbnb brought all of this to Lauren's attention she had the absolute worst nonchalant unconcerned and argumentative attitude while she sat there crocheting and grinning and refused to care or refund one single dollar for the most terrible experience we have ever had. This was my one year of sobriety celebration trip in Colorado and this was an AWFUL way to treat people! She didn't even lose money if she was fully booked with the actual guest rooms. Please book anywhere else and find my video when searching "Historic Windsor Hotel Guest Warning." Attached is her response to our review on Airbnb! Enjoy!

If you're looking for a place that offers foot massages, a face mask scrub and a gourmet French chef, then go spend $300 a night somewhere around Steamboat Springs. If you want an affordable place to bed down for the night in a beautifully adorned historic building operated by a friendly local family, this is your stop. The building is filled with antiques reminiscent of the era it was built in. The building itself is rich with historical significance. The building was owned by one single family for well over a century. My wife and I love stops like this. The Robinsons will make you feel like family. Breakfast was delicious. The bedrooms were cozy and we slept well. There is one shared bathroom so plan accordingly. Pay cash and you will receive a nice discount.

A crappy cleaned small room with no TV, and right by a loud ass wall where cabinets a shut allllll morning. Terrible terrible terrible!

DO NOT LISTEN TO ALL THESE "GOOD REVIEWS"!! I was excited to stay here as I needed a quick and safe mountain getaway... I was planning on staying for 2 days but had a family emergency and had to leave after 1 night. At first I thought Lauren was cool, then I tried to explain what was going on and she took no pity on my situation and charged me a large cancellation fee + tax, so $150 for an $88 room, and she was plain rude when I just tried to even say how much I enjoyed the hotel, views, and even that I wanted to come back. I'm poor af; so it really was quite shocking she was so dismissive, she certainly could have worked with me, I wasn't even there for more than about 12 hours, used the restroom once. There was no real breakfast and I just felt no hospitality at all here. Rooms are dingy... Idk why there are so many good reviews? I gave it my best shot but I can gladly say I'll never stay here again. I left a gift even to show my appreciation, but at what cost. Smh. What a cute town, it's a shame history has to be in the hands of someone like that... sigh.

Leo! So sweet. (They normally keep Leo away from guest areas, so don't let the kitty deter you)

This isn't a super nice or updated space, but we had everything we needed for our mixed bag of early 30s friends. My friends and I stayed in the Stone St. cottage, which is heavily Grateful Dead/psychedelic/ classic rock themed. The room is listed as sleeping 3, which we did on night one, but easily slept 4 on night 2. The grounds were so charming and eclectic. The cottage we were in was a little wonky and slanted on the floor, but the rooms were clean, the shower worked great and we had more than what we needed. We checked in super late in the darkness so we didn't get to experience a normal front desk check in, which I'm sure would brief us on procedures like pre-ordering breakfast the night before, but the staff was so accommodating when we showed up hungry and ordered bacon, eggs and potatoes in the AM. Mary was the cook and she was rad, quick witted and whipped up a lovely home cooked breakfast. There are 2 dogs (that we met) on site names Shokti (gorg white husky queen) and Mr. Dog (precious, hilarious chihuahua businessman) and we loved to pet and visit with them while in the main lodge. That space is incredible: kitschy, eclectic, trippy and warm, just like our whole stay! I could go on forever about how adult-summer-camp-esque the grounds were! Every cottage is themed, though we only entered ours. The covered hot tub was a crucial touch for our group in the crisp 50 degree weather to take a morning dip and unwind after the show. I'm unsure if all cottages come with hot tubs so definitely confirm if that's something you're interested in. The walkability to all the necessities and some breweries/ eateries was appealing when we had time to kill. Cliff House offers a shuttle to and from Red Rocks for a fixed price per rider. The shuttle to the venue leaves 15 minutes prior to doors which was a little late for us, so we opted to take the shuttle back and it was a highlight of the trip. Brook's organized the shuttle, sent us incredibly detailed instructions on where/ how to find her in a short, yellow school bus. I especially appreciate the details because we had been drinking etc and needed the depth of care taken to make sure we found her! The bus was stocked with beverages and we played music and just bopped down the hill, laughing our butts off. This was such a fun stay for us and it was thanks to the grounds, location, home cooked breakfast and tea in the lodge, Mary, Brooks, Shokti and Mr. Dog. I will recommend to anyone I know traveling that way!

Tip: Call to reserve late checkout at 1:30 for $30. First come first served. Otherwise checkout is at 11 AM. It was nice to enjoy coffee in the lodge after a late night concert. Worth it to take the shuttle (mini school bus with a couch and disco balls!) for $15/person to be dropped up at the top of Red Rocks - beats the long line walking up. $25/person pick up - approx 10 min walk but it's all downhill to the party bus and seemed way safer than all the taxi drivers in your face outside of the amphitheater. Brooks is awesome and takes care of you!! We stayed in the Rose Retreat again. It's a small room, but I love the big shower and mini fridge with Brita. The window air conditioning unit kept the place nice and cool with it being 95° outside. Private hot tub and robes in the closet. Breakfast is included. Order at check-in and enjoy the next morning. There is also fruit, bagels, coffee and tea, with alternative milk available. Bottomless mimosas available for a cost. We enjoyed a nice chess game with coffee after a delicious breakfast. Can't wait for the next visit!

My friend brought me here, saying, if I'm going to try any hostel, anywhere in the world, it should be here or his other favorite - in Wales. It is a gorgeous autumn in Colorado, so Breckinridge it is. How incredibly fortunate for me that my first hostel was here. I'm constantly reminded that not every hostel is so nice. What a lovely place. Well appointed, so clean - which is all important in this pandemic time. Everyone is friendly. We stayed in a 6-bunk room with a total 4 ppl in it. The less agile (that'd be me) was lucky to get a lower bunk (not sure how that works, we lucked out that not all the berths were full!) The other two ppl were solo travelers, one from South America, the other from Russia. They were friendly and polite. We all did our own thing; I crashed out early, so I wasn't bothered at all that another guest had to pack luggage for an early flight out the next day. There are outlets at each bunk, even USB chargers And a lamp which was a necessity when hvg to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I thought the room was comfortable; temps got down into the 30's overnight but I was comfortably cozy in my bed with its duvet; there were extra blankets in the closet if needed. My friend thought it too warm but he runs that way, but he slept thru the night fine too. A word about the bedding: mine was fine, clean, smelled clean. But one of the other bunks had yellowed bedding - with stains. I presume it was washed and cleaned just looked used, and if you got there in daylight or with all the lights on, one would hv seen it, but I didn't till the next morning when we were getting ready to leave and that might've bn off putting. I came down early, just before sunrise The general areas were at a comfortable temp. Wasn't time yet for breakfast, but some kind soul had already started the coffee. I went for a walk, took some pix, came back once guests had started to straggle in. What a friendly, informative bunch! My friend tells me that's most hostel-goers. And the food was pretty good, pancakes, eggs, cereal; I got the oatmeal and an English muffin. The coffee smelled really good. And I was so happy they had powdered hot chocolate too! Special mention must be made of Belage (sorry, may hv misspelled) but he is a welcoming, knowledgeable host and made us feel at home. If you come here, please contribute positively. I worry that the wrong sort would detract from such a lovely accommodation and experience. And yeah, I'll hv to keep in mind that almost certainly other hostels aren't like this, but it is now my gold standard.

We had looked for a hotel in the area but none had great reviews, so we hunted for a BnB. Luckily we found Aspen Hollow, such a nice place to stay. We arrived and were greeted by Marilyn, shown a great and comfortable room, and were treated to a couple glasses of wine before we turned in. This place has a lot to offer, there is a recreational space with hot tub, sauna and big screen tv with tons of movies, as well as a separate great room for peaceful relaxation as it overlooks the valley of Granby and has a huge fireplace that must be amazing in the winter. We got up in the morning to coffee waiting for us, and a delicious breakfast, fresh fruit, powdered sugar french toast and sausage. I am so glad we stayed here. I was hesitant at first because there wasn't a lot of info about this place but it turned out to be a great decision. We will be going back for sure. A couple of things I will say that were unique about this place that really struck me as fantastic and unusual. First, the quality of the building is pretty high, the floors are tile and heated, so in the great room on the mail floor your feet are warmly greeted in the morning for breakfast. Another thing I noticed is there are a lot of quality in the details. The bed was extremely comfortable, the linens were top notch. Many times when staying in places such as these, and others like vbro or airbnb you find that people just want to make a buck without giving a quality overall experience. Many times you find that people cheap out, and this place does not. The level of quality is very high, so high that despite not having family or anything in Granby, we will likely go back to just relax for a few days because it was such a good experience. I would recommend checking this place out.
