After moving into our HistoryMaker home in August 2023, the entire experience has felt like we were taken advantage of. From the beginning, there was intense pressure during the purchase process. The in-office realtor repeatedly pushed us to place a $5,000 deposit quickly or risk losing a $15,000 incentive. Meanwhile, the loan officer would not return calls or provide clear estimates of what our actual mortgage payment would be with interest, PMI, and taxes. Initially we were told the payment would be around $2,700 per month, which was already outside our budget. I explained that this amount was too high for our family and that we would likely pass on the home. The loan officer said he would work on the numbers and get back to us. However, the pressure from the sales office continued, repeatedly reminding us that we would lose the incentive if we didn't move forward immediately. Because our family needed housing before school started, we reluctantly placed the deposit hoping the numbers would improve. Only after the deposit was made did the loan officer call back and say the lowest payment estimate he could reach was about $2,500 per month, including interest, PMI, and estimated taxes. When we attempted to cancel, we were told we would lose $4,000 of our deposit because we had already signed the contract. Unfortunately, the reality is that our actual mortgage payment is now close to $3,000 per month, which is significantly higher than what we were led to believe when making the decision to move forward. During construction there were multiple issues. We went through two different general contractors and at one point the wrong brick was installed on the home, which delayed the move-in date. During the drywall phase, the entire house smelled like sewage. After moving in, the problems became more concerning. The house began developing cracks throughout the walls and ceilings. Many of these issues appeared right up until the warranty period ended. Each time we reported them, we were told the cracks were "cosmetic" and not covered. For a long crack across our living room ceiling, the suggested repair was simply to caulk the crack and paint over it. Recently, after replacing the carpet, we discovered a mound of construction debris left underneath the stairs, including drywall scraps, insulation pieces, wood, and other trash that was never cleaned out before the flooring was installed. We are continuing to spend our own money correcting issues that should have been handled during construction. If we had been given the time to make a careful decision instead of being pressured into the purchase, we would not have chosen HistoryMaker Homes. read more

I find it both astonishing and deeply concerning that HistoryMaker Homes in San Antonio TX at Morgan Meadows appears to be posting their own positive reviews on google to inflate their ratings. We withdrew from house 6434 Velma Path San Antonio due to significant issues identified in the inspection report and the extremely poor customer service we received during the walk-through with project manager Wes. That experience alone speaks volumes about the company's ethics and operations--disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly, shady. It's unfortunate that a company that prides itself on being one of the oldest homebuilders in Texas has resorted to such questionable practices. We were genuinely excited to purchase a home, not to donate $3,000 of our hard-earned money. What's wrong is wrong. Keeping that earnest money might be pocket change for a large builder, but for consumers, it's meaningful. Shame on a company that has lost sight of integrity, quality, and pride in its work. We're grateful we walked away before investing even more into a builder that no longer seems to value honesty or customer trust. read more

We recently entered into a purchase agreement with HistoryMaker Homes in the Country Hollow community in Aledo and placed earnest money. Unfortunately, our experience quickly raised serious concerns. Part of the process required us to use their Smart Move program, which involved a realtor connected to the builder coming to evaluate and potentially sell our current home. The interaction with that realtor was extremely concerning. The evaluation felt rushed and unprofessional, and we were uncomfortable with how the process was handled. It left us with a very bad feeling about moving forward with such a major financial decision. Because of that experience, we made the decision not to move forward with the build before even going to the design center or making any selections. Since requesting cancellation, getting clear communication about our earnest money has been extremely difficult. We have repeatedly tried to get answers and have even asked for contact information for management, but have not been provided with it. Communication has essentially stopped. Building a home is a huge financial commitment, and buyers should feel confident in the process. Unfortunately, our experience has been the opposite -- poor communication, lack of transparency, and difficulty getting straightforward answers. We would strongly encourage anyone considering building with HistoryMaker Homes to fully understand the Smart Move program and ensure they are comfortable with the process before signing anything. I bought my house from HistoryMaker last year in September. Both sides of the house i had drainage problems. The water never goes away. Before end of my first year ends i got the the whole house inspected. Because they give you 1 year warranty. They found several things needed to get done. The most important was water drainage and they found organic growth (moldy) on my roofing. I claimed it afterwards and they came see the place. First gentlemen(Don) came and took some photos. After that he had to came with his manager(Doug). They made a decision to make a french drain( which they needed to do when they were building the house. Because all my neighbors with the other builders have it) on one side only and the other side was okay according to them. But i knew the side which they said better; was actually worse. Because after that it got very bad and i had to get it done with my own money. Going forward they never contacted me unless i text Don and ask when would they take care of the other stuff. He doesn't even know what he is doing i guess because every time i call he asks me what else is left. He should already know because i sent him the detailed inspection report. The last answer i got was "That is not mold. Its stains from where the trusses laid out. For mold to grow it needs constant moisture. I showed my supervisor the photos. And he agreed that it is not mold. Everything that was warranrable was completed. Per your warranty cosmetics are not covered such as paint touch ups and hairline cracks in drywall. Those are home owner maintenance issues." I think this is wrong and rude after me been very kind with them. If i got this house inspected before i buy it, they would fix these issues right away. Or they shouldn't give you a warranty and sell the houses as is. I will put some fotos of the mold here. If i want to sell this house which buyer would buy it like this. I don't understand what makes them think this it is normal? My roof is all over has organic growth stains. The cosmetics he is talking about the stuff never was done when they were building it. This house falling apart ever since i moved in. I tried to be positive after every single time and now it came to a point that i regret bought a property from HISTORY MAKER. Also my sprinkler system shut off got broken and i had a water leak for 3 days. Lost 1000 gallons of water. I got noticed from the city of Mesquite. That's how I found out. They came to fix it and left all my grass torn out. My kitchen sink keeps falling a part and i keep fixing it myself. My experience with History Maker Homes has been very disappointing, and I want to warn others to proceed with caution. When I bought my home, I was told the backyard would be leveled and French drains installed to address drainage issues. Neither was done. Now I have a swamp along the side of my home, and the builder is trying to blame it on "overwatering." I turned off my sprinklers to prove that isn't the cause, yet the issue remains. In addition, my sister lost her earnest money even though she wasn't approved for her loan. They took her deposit before approval, and when she couldn't move in, she was left without a home. I've also had constant problems with my garage door, interior doors, and flooring, AC, and baseboards since moving in. The repairs that were done haven't lasted, and getting proper follow-up has been frustrating. I truly regret purchasing from History Maker Homes. read more

I can't even give them one star. My home is only 1 1/2 Years old and I've had to repair two leaks already. I have flooring that is peeling up...the playground that was supposed to be built behind my house is now just a vacant unkept lot which leads to snakes and other undesirable critters in my yard. My sprinkler system has to be repaired Everytime I turn around and my fence is already falling down. I had a great experience with Tommy Browning at Colony at Pinehurst--he made my first-time home buying process smooth and enjoyable. I truly felt heard and supported, and he went above and beyond to help me through the process. Unfortunately, the experience after moving in has been disappointing. Dealing with the construction team has been frustrating--appointments are often missed with no communication, and I've taken multiple days off work for scheduled visits where no one showed up. I've had to escalate concerns to corporate just to get any response. After speaking with neighbors, it seems this is the reputation they're have set up for themselves. To All Those Considering Purchasing a HistoryMaker Home, I hope you take this message as a word of caution and, perhaps, even as divine intervention. My family and I purchased a HistoryMaker home and moved in on December 12, 2024. Since then, we have encountered a series of ongoing issues that continue to arise. From warped doors to leaking windows and dented woodwork, the list seems to grow. While the warranty repair response has generally been prompt, it's often been clear that the repair crews lack the knowledge and expertise needed to resolve these problems effectively. For example, when we had issues with our back French doors, the repair attempt was nothing short of disappointing. The doors had clearly been damaged during construction, likely kicked in, and instead of replacing them as most reputable builders would, HistoryMaker attempted to patch the doors with nails and filler. The crooked door was visible from across the room. When we pointed out the issue, HistoryMaker tried to conceal the damage and did not disclose it in the closing paperwork. Despite multiple repair attempts, the situation remained unchanged. The most recent attempt only made things worse. The door jambs and studs were torn out, replaced, and the door still looked and functions poorly, now with the added issue of a leaking bottom seal. Additionally, when it comes to basic finish carpentry, HistoryMaker appears to cut corners. Standard practice for securing the striker plate on a door should involve using small, short screws. However, they used four-inch construction screws, which is far from the norm. where I come from. I've noticed similar issues, with workers rushing through jobs and cutting corners, likely due to pressure from the company. If, after reading this, you still choose to purchase a HistoryMaker home, I urge you to proceed with extreme caution. Buyer beware. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. To feel like you've been trapped in a home built to subpar standards is torture. The warranty team is awful, they lie about the length of your warranties on their pamphlets (they state a 5 year warranty, but when I tried to use this, they said they only offer 2 year warranties on HVAC, not the advertised 5 year... see attached picture for proof) , and our builder contact was awful to deal with. The HVAC contractor (AirTron) completely bypassed wiring in my fresh air damper control module which I then had to pay for with my own money ($500), my house has almost burnt down TWICE because of the shoddy electrical work done in my breaker panel and main bathroom exhaust fan, and there's cracks all in my drywall already (my house is 2.5 years old.) I tell everyone not to buy History Maker because they're THAT awful. Godley is a beautiful town being ruined by these pathetic "home builders". Stay far away. read more

I just wish I would have read the reviews before buying a History Maker home. I'm almost 3 years in and still finding issues with this home. Eventually I will get all the tile redone because it's uneven in all three bathrooms. The caulking was terrible from the beginning however there were so many other discrepancies that I told them I would do it myself. They really did put cheap material in this home. This builder uses cheap labor that destroys their beautiful dream of nice colonial style homes! Workmanship is horrible, warranty repair horrible , and them taking responsibility of the damages and poor workmanship is poor. Took multiple trips to fix simple things, their workers did sloppy job at painting, had construction debris all in plumbing pipes that caused a leak in the home, windows inoperable because of construction debris, carpet filthy dirty. New sod laid on top of clay and construction debris such as ricks cement porcelain pvc pipes to the point it has killed the sod and has surfaced all over my yard. Disaster that will sneak up on you after your year warranty expires. read more

The entire process with this builder has been a nightmare. We were not allowed to have a final walk through before closing on our house because we were told they would be working in it all morning and after closing went to the house to find a long list of items incomplete with the house that we were told we now had to live with until they could get around to it. The are endless quality issues and the response we have been given is that's how it is supposed to be or this is how we do it. After living in the house for 2 months most of the items have still not been corrected. Doors broken, door seals turn off before move in, the floor creaks throughout the upstairs, the entire tile floor is not level from tile to tile, concrete driveway was poured poorly and has already multiple issues and that is just a few of the items. The current list of items incomplete is a list long. But to paint a picture of what this builder think is acceptable when we came into the house after closing there was a large paint stain in the master bedroom, they were not able to get most of the paint out so the person that came to the house took a razor blade and cut the carpet down to the base of the carpet, so there are now holes in the carpet in the master bedroom on a brand new house. read more

My wife and I moved into our brand new house just under 3 years ago. Upon initial inspection everything looked great but after living here for a time the warts began to show. This is supposed to be an energy efficient house but our bills are still high and the front and back doors have visible light coming through. They came out to try to fix it but it didn't help. The windows they install are the cheapest windows and you can hear everything outside. The windows are also not effective at keeping out the hot and cold temperatures. We have visible nails that have fallen out of the ceiling as well. There is also uneven molding bad baseboards throughout the house. The latest issue that prompted this review is our AC/heating system going out after less than 3 years of living here. I would not recommend this builder to anyone looking to buy a new house. The craftsmanship is shoddy and the customer service is lacking. The latest issue is with the construction of the new houses around us. For some reason they waited to build out the whole neighborhood before starting on the 6 houses around the model home. The workers play loud music from 7 AM to 7PM and sometimes later. When the builder was contacted about this he was argumentative and claimed he didn't have workers onsite. Even after sending him multiple recordings of how loud the music was he would not address the problem. Maybe if the workers spent less time having a party and hammering to the beat of their music and paid more attention to their craft we wouldn't have such a poorly built home. read more

We've only encountered a few small issues in which are common with new builds and they have taken care of any issues immediately. I don't own a History Maker home but they built one right next door to me. They had to install a French drain and made a complete mess of my side yard. The construction manager at the time told me not to worry that it would be repaired just like it was before they started. Then he quit answering his text messages. The sales person at the model home advised me to file an online request for service. Paul from History Maker responded right away with a telephone call and followed up with an email. He said he would get everything taken care of and he absolutely did. Based on this exceptional customer service, I would definitely consider History Maker in the future if I were to build a new home. read more

While these homes aren't the worst homes, they still have quite a few issues. If you build please be thorough and check things out. I am still finding garbage in my flower bed that was never cleaned up... Also I had a lot of electrical issues when I moved in, things that weren't wired correctly and breakers tripping. My back porch floods when it rains. There are several texture variations on walls and ceilings that weren't adequately repaired. Be very careful when they give you the move in date that you don't have things ready for that day to move because you may have to wait a couple weeks or more. This house is almost a year old I think (I bought an already built home) and some of the edges where it goes from carpet to tile the edges are already getting sharp where tacks are pushing through, corners of window frames are already having cracks where I guess the house is settling. So just be very careful and thorough. They were better built homes than one of the other places that I looked at. But not as good as they should be especially with the price tag. read more

Very disappointing experience with Heartland - History Maker. After jumping through all their hoops and lender requirements both the sales and management dropped the ball. 1. They don't give you adequate time to review the contract or even look at it, till after you complete their lender application (Im already approved with three lenders why do I need to use theirs?)and they will force you to sign contract same day within 24 hours or they raise the price by 10k. 2. Sales rep Brian Joyce is very unprofessional, will send you text messages in the evening threatening to sign the contract or the house will go up in price. 3. After convincing them to change back to the original price, they waited till after work hours on Friday to send me a contract, then Brian text messages me several hours later in the evening saying that if I don't sign by midnight, the price on the house goes back up 10k. I inevitably miss the deadline since they only gave me a few hours. I talk to the sales manager Jackie Emmons the next day to reopen the contract, she claims she cant lower the price again, even though they already did once, and that if I wanted it I would have to pay the additional 10k. I said no thanks. All in all this is a very unprofessional and unethical way to do business. There needs to be more gov regulation to ensure builders conduct business in an ethical manner. read more

I purchased my first new home with History Maker Homes June 2020. That was one of the biggest mistake ever. I have been here a little over an year, and have had nothing but problems. History Makers is one of the worst builders, and would not recommend to anyone. As soon as your one year warranty expires History Makers doesn't want to fix anything even if it's covered under warranty. When I first moved in I told the builder that they gave me some bad grass with fungus. He stated that he would fix the problem, and he never did. When I called about it they stated the builder was no longer at this property, and the damaged grass as on me to fix out of pocket. Every since then it has been going downhill with every builder and this home. Customer service is the worst. Do not buy a home with History Maker. read more

Very disappointed. From the beginning, I found many defects in this house. Apparently, during its construction History Maker cut corners wherever possible. The quality of the materials and finishing simply cheap. An external inspector told me that these houses only meet the minimum required by law and construction standards. As a previous owner of a DR Horton home, I noticed the differences in quality and customer support. I never had a problem with DR Horton. Now, I unfortunately regret that I chose a house from History Maker Homes as my home. Customer service is a joke. In August, I wanted to correct defects of this house, and already November and it is still not possible to fix it. The person in charge of warranty, answers my calls and emails days later saying he is going to take care and simply nothing ever happens. Suddenly they send their contractor without any prior notice to me, I am not at home (away from home working) and they simply never return. read more
